this album is so cool. feels nostalgic in a timeless way. it has some of MGMT's most iconic tracks and the lesser known songs are also very solid. i especially loved how i could pick out every synth part in "kids" and hear how all these parts came together to make a killer song. also i was shocked this album was made in 2007 it feels very 2018 to me (aka it was ahead of its time).
really pleasant to work to! some songs felt emotional even as instrumentals, love the dreamlike quality to them.
i knew as soon as i saw that this was just two 20 minute jazz songs that i was gonna love this. i like the organ and the drums and the jazz guitar. very soothing. feels more modern than 1969.
i wanted to like this more but i just didn't...felt like a similar experience to john lennon/plastic ono band in the way that it felt like some of the songs were trying too hard to be different/edgy.
this was fire. janis joplin's vocals are insane. somewhere between a 4 and a 5 for me.
not sure why crosby, stills & nash was mixed up in my head with creedence clearwater revival lmao. that means i went in expecting more rock n' roll stuff but i was pleasantly surprised by the soft rock. very relaxing.

i think funk is a genre i'm really liking (i yearn for disco). every funk album i see will probably be rated pretty high. i'm sad this is not on spotify. i can't find the name rn but my fav was the song about funk bands playing rock - the guitar went crazy there.
this was nice background music. i feel like this is exactly what i'd wanna hear in like a millennial restaurant or an outdoor supply store or a rock climbing gym. i think i was more invested in the vibe of the music than the music itself, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

similarly to "the soft bulletin", this album really felt like background noise to me. i think only one song ("she floated away") stood out.
could be controversial but at times i just cannot stand the nasally vocals 😭 overall it's still decent - i liked "orange crush" but cannot stand "stand" and parts of "the wrong child".
this felt unique and i actually really enjoyed it. i listened to the bulk of it while walking my dog on a crisp, cool evening right around dusk and that's exactly what this album sounded like. i really liked "stay" but didn't care much for "easter parade".
there were points of this album where i was like "wow this is beautiful". i loved the soft, orchestral, sometimes melancholy vibe of this album, and it felt very nice as i was driving into work on a calm, sunny, early autumn morning.
didn't feel like an album for me, but it wasn't bad. kind of felt like they were playing on every hair metal trope 10-15 years after that was a trend though (lol).
i like pet shop boys, but this was an album where i found myself more drawn to the tracks i already knew than anything else on the album.
i really liked this (i really like any jazz). i guess my only thing with this as an album is that it's a little annoying to hear multiple takes of the same song all right in a row. i did really like the alice and wonderland arrangements though.
i was really excited to see this album on the list - some of these songs i genuinely really love (like i love a good western vibe). however as a full-album experience i felt like it dragged a little at points...all the songs are pretty similar (hence the title).
those groovies sure are flamin'! this was a fun, energetic album that felt like more of what i'm looking for when it comes to classic rock.

all the weirdos hyping this one up made me want to listen. similarly to the sonic youth album, i loved it and would probably give it a 4.5/5, but i'm leaning 5 since i'll probably be revisiting this. i already loved never let me down again, and actually really liked the remix, and i also enjoyed the assortment of instrumentals. felt ahead of its time!
worried this is a hot take...i love david bowie plus sound and vision is one of my favs on this album but besides that i feel like there's not much for me to come back to. i liked some of the instrumentals but again i just don't see myself turning to this bowie album compared to his other works. (i also listened to part of this while on a run so maybe i wasn't the most attentive).
my first thought was "this is adidas store music" (as someone who was frequently buying soccer things there in 2017). i liked the beginning half of this album more than the later half. it was also such a jumpscare to hear the choral sample in "lips" - the composer of that song came to our school and i had to sit through a 15 minute performance that was pretty much exactly like the sample it was awful.
like others have said there's a lot of bangers on this album. off the wall might be more my vibe tho? like the songs are distinct from each other but i feel like a lot of the pop songs feel similar if that makes sense (maybe all the "he he"-ing idk).
maybe i am not a folk person. like this sounds good and at first i really liked it but i felt like it just dragged on for a half hour. i know i'm someone where i'm more of a music listener than a lyrics listener so it doesn't feel super engaging to me when an album is just a guy and his guitar (i liked the brief harmonica though). my favorite part was when there was a glitch on the spotify compilation and a random jazz track played instead of "dink's song" (the jazz track was "can't we be friends" on the complete sarah vaughn vol. 2).
liked it more as it went along (specifically "secret 77" onwards. could not believe this was made in 2019 (but i think bad brains have been around since the 80s).
felt nostalgic..like it was 2018 all over again when i kept seeing this album on instagram moodboard accounts. some essential hits of the time are in here. i'm not sure if i gave this a full listen before but also damn it's sad at points.
this album was just fun and energizing - i loved it! definitely a few songs on here that i'll be coming back to.
i really did not care for this one. like i feel like they're trying to do something interesting and unique at least with the story-like nature of the lyrics but overall this was just background noise for me.
parts of this i liked, parts of this i did not. some songs good, some not so much. i think this would be a better/more memorable album if there were less longer songs than so many short songs (but idk what the norms were in 1967).

absolutely loved this one. sounds like something i would listen to regularly. i love the pop-synth-rock vibe. i keep saying "i'll probably come back to this" for a lot of these but i actually mean it for this one and i wouldn't feel like i'm forcing it. favorite album so far (at the time of writing this i've listened to 8 others).

see i liked parts of it (music makes you lose control!) and generally i wouldn't mind this album if it was just the intrumentals but a lot of the songs were very, very repetitive.

i love jazz - so i definitely loved this. very charming and fun :) my favs were "just a gigolo/i ain't got nobody" and "banana split for my baby".
another album where the vocals kind of annoy me but i think it works in this instance. fun music for morning commute lmao. i was especially impressed by all the fast-paced drumming. i even liked "smash" itself despite the minutes of silence within it - apparently having tracks "hidden" at the ends of songs was a thing at the time.
they basically invented metal and creepy tiktok audios with this one. like the one monkee's album from earlier but peak. i maybe liked rubber soul more than this so i might need to edit that review.
3 for led zeppelin 3. i did really like this and i love them in general but i'll be honest i'm probably only listening to "immigrant song" and "tangerine" from this album (the ones i already knew).
i hope it was intentional for everyone on the site to get this album today :). regardless of her recent passing this is just a lovely album and the songs feel very charming, they're basically stories.
on another note, i'm really not liking that this is the first solo female artist we've gotten (to my knowledge), we're fifty albums in, and i feel like i would have had to wait longer if it weren't for her passing.
not sure if i've ever listened to a blues album before but this was fire. "bluesbreakers" felt like a very fitting title for this track since yes it was blues but it also felt very rock and almost jazzy at points with the way some tracks were swung. loved the drum and harmonica solos too.
i enjoyed this more than led zepplin 3. some tracks i already knew, but there also were some new standouts for me here (in my time of dying, boogie with stu). loved the drums on this. very rock n' roll.

i really liked this. fun classic rock and roll! very energizing, good for commute to/from work.
had an interesting experience with this one. i already knew some of the songs, but besides "baba o'riley" i couldn't remember a *single* other song from my morning commute on this album. this made me want to rate it lower, but i didn't realize "behind blue eyes" and "won't get fooled again" were also on this album. i also thought the drums/piano were crazy on "getting in tune". overall i think the who have a very distinct sound that i actually quite enjoy.
this one was nice. i was listening as i was doing computer work so this was another one that felt like background music to me but like it wasn't bad background music.
again, more of the kind of classic rock i really enjoy. i probably wasn't the most attentive to this album since i was working while listening but i knew there were songs on here i already liked and i found some new ones i enjoyed as well (like "shine a light"). i like how there's sometimes unexpected elements (like the trumpets in "rocks off").
