1001 Albums Summary

The album might have been iconic at the time, but I'm not sure it holds up. Very simple riffs that aren't particularly catchy and a droney, repetitive voice. The punk scene might have been better off for the Ramones, but my evening wasn't.

Excellent. Iconic. Varied. Timeless

This was a tough one to rate. There was some challenging songs but some really beautiful vocals throughout. Overall I enjoyed it, although I would be hesitant to listen again

Just totally 'fine'. Nothing interesting or giving me cause to talk about this album ever again

Absolutely timeless. So many great pieces, harmonies were almost classical in parts. You can hear the foundations of 'Kind of Blue' which is con ing a few years later

Some brilliant tracks. Just doesn't quite hold up for the whole album

Really enjoyable album. Coat of many colours had such a wonderful message, and travelling man had a real swing to it. Falls apart a little in the middle, but I would listen to the album again

Very strange album. Had no idea that Frank Zappa did this project. His critique on the hippy movement (and the beatles?) was pretty good. Not sure I'd listen again, but I'm giving it an extra star for ambition and another star for making me laugh out loud for the line "what are you doing with the button in your shirt? I'm going to play bongos in the dirt"

Tenth Avenue Freeze Out has some excellent piano on it. Felt the album was quite complete. Would listen again and again

I was wondering why I hadn't rated anything one star yet and now I know why, I was reserving it for dross like this The singer sounded like he was drowning and by the end I wish he had. The guitarist sounded like he'd received an effects pedal for Christmas but hadn't worked out how to turn it off yet. And every song mendered on the way to nowhere before thankfully ending Very difficult to listen, impossible to enjoy

Easy listening. Harmless but forgetful

Disorder is a brilliant song. Rest of the album is a bit dreary for me and not something I'd listen to again in a hurry

I can't believe this album is turning 50! Starts powerfully with great political statements. Absolutely love "so much things to say" and "guiltiness". By the middle it's a greatest hits sequence which is a little tired due to being overplayed these days, but that's not Marley's fault! A timeless classic that was just as good in a relisten as it was years ago

A raw reggae album, with some highlights including a wonderful version of No woman no cry, but this one didn't hit the spot for me

Really enjoyed some of the songs, particularly 'Raised on Robbery' and 'Twisted', but Im afraid to say, the overall package didn't stir too much emotion in me

Easy listening, but fundamentally unadventurous and boring. Nothing new or groundbreaking going on here, and little to stir the emotion. But I'm glad I listened to it, so I know to avoid it in the future

Wow! Ashamed to say I'd never heard of this artist! The album led me to read up Marcus Harvey, an impressive figure and a huge advocate for the pan-African Movement. Very powerful lyrics, raw reggae and an absolute vibe. It passed the 'would listen to again' test and bonus star for teaching me something about black history

Starts with such a classic it's almost felt clichéd. Apache is such a banger to start with, incredibly high production. Let there be drums unfortunately sounds like an Austin power movie and can't shake it off Rolling Stones cover of satisfaction sounds like a community project of middle-aged middle England retirees with empty nest syndrome. Perhaps amusing at the fringes of a carnival for 20 minutes. But a 75 minute opus is unnecessary and self-indulgent

Absolute classic metal album that brought back so many teenage memories. Dickinson's operatic voice carries the band through some of the weaker tracks, but enjoyed some gratuitous guitar solos nonetheless Afraid to say it's not consistent throughout. Really dips in the middle with some poor songs like "22 acacia avenue" and "the prisoner", but then hits with some timeless classics like "number of the beast" and "run to the hills" ending with an absolute belter with "hallowed be thy name" Enjoyed singing along quite a bit, so I'm going to bump this up to a five for nostalgias sake

Overall great soul album with a powerful message. Nothing too special for me

A surprisingly enjoyable listen. Especially whilst being inside with such terrible weather listening to "happy when it rains" Atmospheric and powerful I found myself coming back for more, this will probably become a feature of many more evenings!

When the eponymous track Coles Corner started, I thought I was in for a world of pain, but slowly and surely this album grew on me. Easy listening, smooth vocals and something I'd play again on a lazy Wednesday evening

I must confess I only knew two songs by Steely Dan and I was intruiged to see if an album would hold up to the high standards of the singles. I would say, it almost does. Peg was brilliant but this album would be easy to forget.

Perhaps it was my mindset today but no vibes with this one. Sorry jean-michel
