1001 Albums Summary

this album came out when I was at the end of my twenties and obsessed with '60s garage rock and modern Brit pop. it was fun and kind of bratty and captured perfectly how I felt in that era. I could still happily dance to this entire album.

I love listening to the early Beatles and thinking about how they really tapped into the psyche of teenage girls. it is also always a solid confirmation that pop music has always been kind of stupid but also really fun.

When this album came out it sounded like the future, but now all the synth and robot music definitely sounds retro. It is still a tight, fun. listen and takes me back to alternative dance nights in the mid-80s when I was in high school.

I just can't get into this album. I loved a lot of their earlier work, and I understand why this one was groundbreaking on a lot of levels, but it just doesn't do anything for me.

this is an album that really holds up to the test of time. I first heard most of this album when I was in elementary school and really dove into it in high school when I became obsessed with Sting's music. listening to it now, it really is an incredible stack of music. Of course the one exception is the terrible mother song! The second half of the album really shines, but even the opening tracks are solid and memorable.

besides listening to her hits on the radio, I don't know that I've ever listened to an entire Janis Joplin album. I always thought of her as having an unusual voice, but hearing her rendition of Summertime made me realize how much of a jazz voice she has. She uses her voice the same way Billie Holiday did, creating sound and weaving it into the music like a horn.

I really like his stripped down blues versions of a lot of these songs.

having this album pop up the day after Dolly's passing was such a gift.

this was the perfect soundtrack for a lunar eclipse. Loved the droney, mellow sounds.

absolute classic! I remember shout singing lots of these lyrics with my high school softball team in The dugout.

this is one of my least favorite genres of music. I will literally run away from a room if they start playing smooth jazz. It sounds like an evil white person tried to suck all the soul out of jazz.

not totally my taste, but a nice discovery. I could definitely put this on when I'm working and get a lot done!
