Popular Reviews

Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell

Immediate 5*.

GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo

fun listen! i felt very millenial in a awkward way though.

Peasant by Richard Dawson

This album is weird a.f. I dont mind it. Kinda remind me if I had a band and, well, actual musical talent, and a complete obliviousness for my lack of ability to sing.

Up by Great Big Sea

They walked so the longest johns could run. I don't hate this. Baseline of 4 stars easy. This is a definite 5 star album. It's like, top 5 albums for me. Great pick, 1001 Albums!

Ungodly Hour by Chloe x Halle
Jun 05 2025

I like this album a lot! 4 or 5 stars.

Cor-Crane Secret by Polvo
Jun 06 2025

2 stars? I didn't have to stop it but I also got little pleasure from it.

Alive 2007 by Daft Punk
Jun 09 2025

Gritting my teeth with this one. Maybe in a lower stress time this would be alright, but eh

All Hail West Texas by The Mountain Goats
Jun 10 2025

good and kinda like a male kimya dawson. I don't think I'd return to this particular album though.

Stretch 2 by Arca
Jun 11 2025

thunka thunka thunka. Not the worst to listen to at work but kinda meh.

Boxer by The National
Jun 13 2025

Very entertaining. 4 stars, minus 1 just for being a little melancholy, but oh what music they make.

John Dawson Winter III by Johnny Winter
Jun 16 2025

Awful album. like dad rock and blues had a baby. I respect his skill, it's just not mine.

HELLYEAH by HELLYEAH
Jun 17 2025

not for me. 1.

WORRY by Jeff Rosenstock
Jun 18 2025

like bad album rock. 2s.

Nail by Scraping Foetus off the Wheel
Jun 19 2025

I hate this album. 1 or 2 stars. All noise, no payoff.

Young Team by Mogwai
Jun 20 2025

Jam. not a lot of words, which is nice, and good vocal variety (flute, etc). Not really what I reach for first, but it's growing on me. Damn, they had to end with a flute song. +1 star for that.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie
Jun 27 2025

i like it! 3ish. Usually my jam but EOD I've heard them often.

Moffou by Salif Keita
Jun 30 2025

Unable to access. 2s. Im sure its better if i could hear it.

Up by Great Big Sea
Jul 08 2025

They walked so the longest johns could run. I don't hate this. Baseline of 4 stars easy. This is a definite 5 star album. It's like, top 5 albums for me. Great pick, 1001 Albums!

Re by Café Tacvba
Jul 09 2025

Really solid album! 4 bumped to a 5 because I did a relisten! definitely catchy music overall.

No.1 In Heaven by Sparks
Jul 11 2025

early read, 3. Not unpleasant, but the kinda 80s music I would never have tolerated before 1001 albs.

Mm..Food by MF DOOM
Jul 16 2025

tolerable, but dull. Not a relisten for me.

Puzzle by Biffy Clyro
Jul 17 2025

entirely forgettable but has nice hooks.

Out Of Time by R.E.M.
Jul 18 2025

pretty good! solid 3.

Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads
Jul 24 2025

Dang near unlistenable. 1 or 2 depending on how my day goes.

Music For People In Trouble by Susanne Sundfør
Jul 25 2025

Earnest to a fault. A little too much so, but has moments where it reminds me of bjork or enjya. Not bad.

Year of the Cat by Al Stewart
Jul 28 2025

Ultimate dad rock. 1 star pretty unlistenable.

Tomb by Angelo De Augustine
Jul 29 2025

+1 for being family. Not craving, but like a less catchy

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
Jul 31 2025

4? a classic, and one im voluntarily listening to twice. At its best moments it sounds like its peer the decemberists, but IDK if it has had quite the emotional reaction from me as them.

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens
Aug 01 2025

Too cool coming right after the other album with the high pitched guy. His sound is much more approachable, and I gave the other guy 4 so I expect at least a 4 here. Actually htis is an album about death and I found it incredibly distressing. Woof, I might still give it a 4 but I won't give it a relisten.

Recipe for Hate by Bad Religion
Aug 04 2025

3. What kinda nickleback BS is this.

Phantom Power by The Tragically Hip
Aug 05 2025

FIne? No recall at all. Like early REM.

10,000 gecs by 100 gecs
Aug 06 2025

Hello, autotune. Bananas, no bangers i remember but surprisingly weird and fun.

Because the Internet by Childish Gambino
Aug 07 2025

its good. catchy but fun. 3. Not rated higher bc too many words for work.

Aug 08 2025

i didnt like this album but i don remember how i rated it so 2.

Peasant by Richard Dawson
Aug 12 2025

This album is weird a.f. I dont mind it. Kinda remind me if I had a band and, well, actual musical talent, and a complete obliviousness for my lack of ability to sing.

Aug 13 2025

all braggadocio and bluster but at least not afaict homophobic? 2-3 s?

Y Ahora Qué? by Reincidentes
Aug 27 2025

Like a latin language green day with eerily disturbing cover art. 3.

Sublime by Sublime
Aug 28 2025

I've heard this one before! weird flashback of music. Catchy as hell. Predicting a 4. I'm enjoying it more than I expected, especially since their lead singer died.

Fear Inoculum by TOOL
Aug 29 2025

who knows what nu metal is about. it's not bad... now anyway.

Lateralus by TOOL
Sep 01 2025

just alright. 2 tool albums in a row. I think I liked the first one better. 2 or 3 stars. definitely not bad to have on in the background at work.

Under The Pink by Tori Amos
Sep 03 2025

I've definitely heard this one before. at least 4 stars, 5 if its not overplayed for me. not especially craveable, but tori played so so many other artists I love can jam.

People by The Burning Hell
Sep 04 2025

I really like this album! very listenable.

Control by Pedro The Lion
Sep 05 2025

what kind of white nonsense is this? I'd enjoy this better if it didn't sound like it was slowed down to 65% speed.

Bon Iver by Bon Iver
Sep 08 2025

Dreamy, surrealist drowned cats.

Contra by Vampire Weekend
Sep 09 2025

This should be fun. 4?

The Lion's Roar by First Aid Kit
Sep 11 2025

i dont love this band, to the degree I was going to stop it midway through with a 1. The fem power aspect of me encouraged me to push through it, but it's not my taste in music especially

Young, Loud And Snotty by Dead Boys
Sep 12 2025

Seems like it's going to rock. Rock for me though? Who can tell with one hit wonders and 70s music.

Gordon by Barenaked Ladies
Sep 17 2025

pretty decent, but not as moving as it was when i was 13. Funny how life works that way. 3 or 4.

Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
Sep 18 2025

danny elfman is in it! wild. a slog 2s. but hey at least nightmare before christmas was a thing.

The Impossible Kid by Aesop Rock
Sep 19 2025

rap! i dont hate it. Like a really punchy rap debut. Not bad, but not necessarily clicked for me. 3. A very talented rap virtuoso, but I don't think aurally the tunes worked for me as well as otherwise.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson
Sep 22 2025

+1 cause i listened to it again. It's a neat experimental album.

After Hours by The Weeknd
Sep 23 2025

#1 in the world, wow. So much autotune though.

Look Sharp! by Joe Jackson
Sep 24 2025

sounds like another elvis costello sound alike from the first few bars. I skipped the end of the song. 2 stars is generous but I'm grateful today.

Telefone by Noname
Sep 25 2025

Very chill and very fun! good listen. 4 stars for me. Gotta love the Chi girlies.

Korn by Korn
Sep 26 2025

True 1 star for me. I made it through half of one song before deciding it had to go.

Currents by Tame Impala
Sep 29 2025

Acceptable neo-hipster nonsense. Catchy but fluffy.

Savage Sinusoid by Igorrr
Sep 30 2025

Uh oh. Three vivid screams right up front. not really my vibe. 1 Weirdly, it got better. I'll bump it to 3 for being well outside my comfort zone, but also cool.

Vs. by Pearl Jam
Oct 01 2025

For me this is 1 star album. I'm sure they invite folk and rock into their music but for me, this isn't necessarily working as a genre of music.

22, A Million by Bon Iver
Oct 02 2025

Pretty good. dreamy. IDK if i even finished it but it all kinda sounds the same, so sure.

Nia by Blackalicious
Oct 03 2025

Sassy n'fun. It is an album that grew on me over multiple days.

Oct 07 2025

The last track is literally the author grunting and groaning for several minutes. It's weird music, but sometimes I guess that's what early punk feels like. 3 stars from me.

Witness by Modern Life Is War
Oct 08 2025

thrash metal bs.

Fantasies by Metric
Oct 15 2025

that one catchy song (gimmie sympathy). still, a band i'd listen to again.

Frosting On The Beater by The Posies
Oct 16 2025

better than i thought it would be. I like the idea of frosting.

Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Oct 17 2025

Popular hit song. 3? but im listening to the live version so if i end up listening to the full album on spotify idk. ok i listened to it 2x fun 4 stars for anything with a violin.

Ænima by TOOL
Oct 20 2025

vom. 99% chance of 1. it wasnt as bad as all hat but I'm still not really here for it.

Boys And Girls in America by The Hold Steady
Oct 21 2025

like Billy Joel and Elton John had a baby. And he was straight. its decent. 3. (Specifically with regards to STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS and the entire album really). half a point bc i ended up listening to other music like it all morning, which wasn't the worst attempt.

Discosis by Bran Van 3000
Oct 24 2025

Like the band "Air" if it had some more modern songs. It might rate higher than a 3, but I think 3 is all i have in me to rate today.

Mouth Sounds by Neil Cicierega
Oct 28 2025

A very solid, mindbending (mouthbending?) 4. Like the best of mixes except crazier.

Geography by Tom Misch
Oct 29 2025

something very kenny g about this rnb. no shade, just rubbing weird against my anxiety today.

The Lioness by Songs: Ohia
Oct 30 2025

good, chill energy, 3-4 stars. a litle too sad to listen too daily, but a fun listen.

Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon
Nov 03 2025

Alright. very earnest and winsome. I love werewolf of london, but can only take this singer in small doses.

Join Us by They Might Be Giants
Nov 04 2025

Decent jam! I forgot how little TMBG there's been on this list. Feels like a very random pick. I would think they would have picked FLOOD their 1990 album with birdhouse, istanbul, etc. 3 or 4, if only because I never made the connection between Decemberists and Cake and TMBG kinda being at the intersection of each of them.

Romance by Fontaines D.C.
Nov 06 2025

like a more emo green day for 2024. 2 * for being a slog.

Nov 07 2025

I wanted to like this more than I did. I will admit to not being entirely sure what I thought of it, as I listened Friday and then the weekend happened. but I'd rate it a 3 generously, probably a 2.

Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell
Nov 10 2025

Immediate 5*.

Has A Good Home by Final Fantasy
Nov 11 2025

gosh, i love this album so far. Cello is a immediate 5 * sound for me. His other albums are like, 3-4 range but this one is great! Thank you to whatever user that suggested this!

Pinkerton by Weezer
Nov 12 2025

3 stars, except for butterfly which is a gutpunch of an ending vulnerability binge. Not a bad way to listen. Still, 3 stars in my ill-informed opinion.

The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse
Nov 14 2025

Im not so much a fan. Even if those are marina towers? But they're actually the westin seattle

Piledriver by Status Quo
Nov 17 2025

the one song available online means I don't have to listen to the whole album, so that's good news. 2 or 3 otherwise.

Stories by Avicii
Nov 20 2025

power-pop. let's try it. relentlessly positive! like to the point of being saccharine. 3, but it might be too mean.

Sound Awake by Karnivool
Nov 21 2025

Thusfar looks like an eyeball and sounds like a car backfiring. Points for being catchy. i was a little harsh for that first half-song.

TRON: Legacy by Daft Punk
Nov 24 2025

Was not to my taste listening to old movie soundtracks, but whatever floats your boat, buds.

Souvlaki by Slowdive
Nov 25 2025

Like a sleepy, honeyed version of nyquil. Not a bad, relaxing album when I'm stressed, but a little dull and mushy when I want to feel things.

GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo
Nov 26 2025

fun listen! i felt very millenial in a awkward way though.

Magnolia Electric Co. by Songs: Ohia
Nov 27 2025

In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson
Dec 02 2025

I think I feel nostalgically about this album. it's been too long though.

Come On Over by Shania Twain
Dec 03 2025

Ooof. speaking of nostalgic albums, this is one I listened the S*** out of back in the day. i woudlnt say its especially relevant to my life now, but man does this album make me feel like a woman. 4 stars!

Moa Anbessa by Getatchew Mekurya
Dec 05 2025

it's got swag. kinda punk meets blues sax? pretty wild, im not sure I like it? But I respect it. fun and sassy. 3?

Blizzard Of Ozz by Ozzy Osbourne
Dec 08 2025

very dad rock, but catchy. 3.

A Beginner's Mind by Sufjan Stevens
Dec 10 2025

Pretty good! I don't love this album specifically, but I like the idea of it and I gotta support my hom(o)ies.

Human Racing by Nik Kershaw
Dec 11 2025

This is so 80's. I'm less averse than I used to be, but I'd still rather hear paint dry. 2.

O by Damien Rice
Dec 12 2025

I love Damien Rice I think. Blower's daughter might be overplayed, but I'm really curious about the other ones. Gosh this album is sad. Still a 4 for the pleasure it gave me back in the day.

Stella by Yello
Dec 15 2025

Memorably, one of the duo looks uncannily like Stan Lee. Expecting another bland, homogeneous 80's hit. 3. I'll bump it to 4. It's a great work listen, relatively few words and very musically forgettable. That damn "coke" sound effect that you hear everywhere came from here! Go figure.

RENAISSANCE by Beyoncé
Dec 16 2025

easy listen! 5, unless I hit a mood.

Afraid Of Sunlight by Marillion
Dec 17 2025

Dad rock, but not terrible. Like a hug from some stranger's dad. Still good, but definitely not your own.

How To Be A Human Being by Glass Animals
Dec 18 2025

fun album. IDK if I'm cool enough to appreciate it though. it doesnt speak to me directly, 3 stars.

Choirs Of The Eye by Kayo Dot
Dec 19 2025

I've forgotten everything about this album, but I do remember it sounding epic and being relatively innocuous. So.... 3?

Geogaddi by Boards of Canada
Dec 22 2025

tedious and distracting to listen to at work. Saved from 1 star bc this Boards of Canada album has beware the friendly stranger, a really cool song I've used in LARPing. IDK what else though.

Oceanic by ISIS
Dec 23 2025

smooth jazz punk rock. nothing else like it AFAICT, if only i actually liked it.

A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi Trio
Dec 26 2025

A classic and also not one that represents my particular cultural heritage.

Nurture by Porter Robinson
Dec 29 2025

has some gems with Celtic music and some duds with techno-pop, for my taste.

Dec 30 2025

Fun! four stars. Not really re-listenable, but I liked what I heard.

Bob Mould by Bob Mould
Dec 31 2025

decent jazzy rock album. dad rock, but fun and not too ego maniacal like the hair bands.

Fashion Nugget by CAKE
Jan 06 2026

Immediate 5. What an easy toss-up of an assignment.

Bloody Kisses by Type O Negative
Jan 07 2026

dark and heavy but with nice variety in music. Props for dude posting GOATSE before it was cool.

The Animal Years by Josh Ritter
Jan 08 2026

I appreciate how worn-in his voice is. I didn't personally click with it like I did HELLO STARLING, but I'm in a different place personally and professionally than I was when I encountered that in the basement of the local Barnes and Noble when I was in high school. I'm glad i have his songbook. Somewhere...

Is Ellipsis by Psyche Origami
Jan 09 2026

rap battle! very indie and niche, but some laugh out loud funny samples.

Take It From The Man by The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Jan 12 2026

credence clearwater revival if they were 20 years too late and not as catchy. 2 stars.

Rip It Off by Times New Viking
Jan 13 2026

I slogged through this. You can tell it was memorable when as soon as the tape ended I was conscious of the change of the Times New Viking sound-alike.

One Time for All Time by 65daysofstatic
Jan 14 2026

Uncanny, and deep. A little heavy, but right for keeping forward momentum going today. 3 or 4, a solid "I need to get work done" kinda album for me.

Jan 15 2026

I like this album a lot. Jam band, fun guest stars, a genre I didn't even really think I knew anything about

Harbor Lights by Bruce Hornsby
Jan 16 2026

So 80's sounding pop-jazz. I think at some point it decided to put on video game soundtracks and I didn't even notice a difference. A few cringe moments like the china doll song, but I'd hesitate to be too harsh on art.

Jan 19 2026

First day of my life is a banger but IDK about the rest of the album, its a little too sad for me.

Clarity by Jimmy Eat World
Jan 21 2026

Very mid. I'm not enough of a rocker for this.

Older by Lizzy McAlpine
Jan 22 2026

This is so, so sad. It's fine, but not one I'd like to revisit. 3?

Fly by Yoko Ono
Jan 23 2026

I appreciate what she's saying with this, but I didn't enjoy the act of listening to this music. 1.

Ruin by The Amazing Devil
Jan 26 2026

This is the guy from the witcher! I've heard this album a lot, but it's my kinda goblincore, in part because it's Stephen's favorite. I'll be very surprised if this scores less than a 5.

Nightbirds by LaBelle
Jan 27 2026

It's a fun record, and she's good at entertaining.

Auri by Auri
Jan 28 2026

Celtic/Irish music always scores highly in my book. This was a little samey by the end, but I'm glad to have them.

Lahai by Sampha
Jan 30 2026

Fun! beautifully musical. A little too bombastic for me to listen to at work, but I like how melodic it is.

Wildflowers by Tom Petty
Feb 02 2026

tom petty is catchy music, like beach boys with soul, but still not especially touching to me. 2 bc its damn minor key.

Rêver mieux by Daniel Bélanger
Feb 03 2026

french pop. hopefully optimistic, but I didn't understand a word or appreciate it much. 3 stars?

Inside by Bo Burnham
Feb 04 2026

catchy. not really work listen because the lyrics are very lyricable, but if you dont listen to em they arent that bad. It's an achievement alright.3.

City Of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold
Feb 06 2026

pop metal. better than I thought it would be. 3

Script Of The Bridge by The Chameleons
Feb 09 2026

Fun, poppy, 80s without being overbearing. I give this a 4 so far!

Feb 10 2026

like a less catchy Nirvanna. IDK, It's working because I'm angry. I like the energy today. I have to upvote it to a 4 because even if normally it would be a slog to get through, today it matches my mood and I appreciate that.

My Love Is Cool by Wolf Alice
Feb 11 2026

Trip hop a la Teardrop by Massive Attack. I hope the upbeat and fast switches keep going.

Six by Mansun
Feb 12 2026

like smashing pumpkins but circa 1998. Being a girl is almost a trans anthem, but not something I hear about often.

Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen
Feb 13 2026

A good album. A little saccharine, but I could see why it just celebrated it's 10 year anniversary.

Time's Up by Living Colour
Feb 16 2026

Brown pop-rock! I dig the energy and listenability. 4, likely.

Transmissions by STARSET
Feb 17 2026

Like angry white boys making pop music. 3.

Don't Throw Stones by THE SPORTS
Feb 18 2026

its 80s pop, one of a million like it. I'm sure someone lost their virginity to their album, but I don't personally find connection with it.

Angel Dust by Faith No More
Feb 19 2026

I dont enjoy it, but i made it through it which is more than I can say for most metal. 2s.

All Hour Cymbals by Yeasayer
Feb 20 2026

like a trio of becks making pretty and weird music. I don crave it, but nor do I dislike it really. it just is. 3.

The Decline by NOFX
Feb 23 2026

One 18 minute song?? I'm hyped. Easy to get through. IDK if thats a good thing? But it's where I'm at.

Z by My Morning Jacket
Feb 24 2026

very mellow. a good monday morning album. 3.

2 by Mac DeMarco
Mar 03 2026

if that first song wasnt GREAT, i'd have quit this one cause the latter half was a slog.

Temple of Thought by Poets of the Fall
Jun 11 2026

L'autre... by Mylène Farmer
Jun 12 2026

decent. 3s. very pop but very sleepy and forgettable.

A Complicated Woman by Self Esteem
Jun 16 2026

like a poppier kesha with a beat. strong 4 or 5 right now. not the best listen for work but who cares its good. OK I cant not give this a 5. This is an awesome album that I've listened to 2-3 times already!

Jun 17 2026

I hated this album, a true slog. A lot of people must love it but thats not me. 1 or 2 stars, depending on how generous i feel in a minute

Psychic Warfare by Clutch
Jun 18 2026

a slog. funny to give this the same score as the last album bc i HATED the The General Electric - Shidad, but I still though this one was a bit of a slog. 2 stars.

4s. Plus one for giving the world hannah hunt which I've listened the S**t out of because of I'm with her.

Hi Fi Way by You Am I
Jun 24 2026

Generic rock band #6432. At least it wasn't that bad to listen to?

The Hypnogogue by The Church
Jul 02 2026

Alight. very brit-pop shenanegans. fine elevator background music.

Brand New Eyes by Paramore
Jul 06 2026

Some big hits of pop punk here!

Shallow Bed by Dry the River
Jul 07 2026

the soundalike radio is catchier than this band. I like my slow soulful music but this is absurd. 2s.

Quebec by Ween
Jul 08 2026

Pretty album art. Also pretty sure ween is like a nirvanna clone so not really feeling this one. It's better than a pure clone but still a slog.

The Mantle by Agalloch
Jul 09 2026

strong guitar originally. not inherintly discordant but made me grind my teeth and had to turn it off halfway in. 1s.

ross. by Low Roar
Jul 10 2026

I hated this album. Whiny, minor key nonsense. Not alone, but not my style of music at all.

I didn't enjoy this, but this isn't the worst screamo I've heard in a long shot. 2 or 3 depending on mood.

I tended to favor/love dresden dolls, but this could grow on me. I'd give this a solid 4. A little too intense to be a 5, but sometimes you just want some depressed amanda palmer.

The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists

3 or 4. It launched a bunch of minor key songs, that bummed me out. I love the decemberists, but this isn't my favorite work of theirs.
