A very good pop-py album
After the massive success of Hunky, Ziggy and Aladdin, Bowie had the confidence to keep trying his Chameleon act, and it always produced something on interest.
Young Americans was one of the lesser reinventions - There's still good stuff, but it doesn't reach the heights of previous LPs. 3.5 stars
A new name and album to me, and what a find. An excellent Desert Blues album.
Yes, it's an iconic album.
Yes, Lenny is a talented songwriter.
No, I didn't particularly enjoy it.
Well, that was average.
Fairly standard by-the-book indie-lite album from 2010. Inoffensive, but not particularly special IMHO.
Forty years ago, this LP was often on my turntable, but I hadn't listened to it for a decade. A couple of listens, and my opinion hasn't really changed - excellent harmonies, some brilliant songs ... but some tracks just don't hit it for me. "Helpless" the worst offender, tho' I know that many love it.
It was OK, but rather annoying.
Has their ever been a front-man with the overwhelming belief in his abilities as Alex Harvey? Alas, while some tracks rocked and linked the worlds of Glam Rock and Heavy Metal, other tracks were dire and self-delusional.
Nice to have some Jazz rather than endless Rap, but this this seemed so over produced. No desire to explore Weather Report any further.
A good pop album, with THAT track that 99.9% of humanity will recognise. (OK, hat's hyperbole), but alas, Familiarity Breeds Contempt, and I couldn't wait for Karma to finish.
The rest of the album is fine, with only Church standing out.
If I was being a Negative Norman, this album is just AOR fodder, but, by god, it's top quality AOR. A perfect reminder that 1977 was an outstanding time for quality music.
I've been on this planet for 60+ years, and heard a lot of electronic and dance music. Most of it has been enjoyable, with Kraftwerk (for example) having earned a permanent place in my play lists.
This album, however, is one of the worst I've ever heard. Truly abysmal.
Magical, and an easy Five Star.
Yes, there will be folk who hate it, the same as their being people who love "Smurf Go Pop", but this album is awesome.
Side I has the hits...all bangers.
Side 2 has The Ninth Wave, a marvellous exploration of sound, texture mood and whimsy.
...and I love it.
