This is good fun electopop. Looks like I gave Kimono My House 3 stars so I might have to revisit that. 4/5
An easy 5 stars an old favourite, one that we have in our physical CD collection.
Wow, was not really sure what to expect here but pretty epic. The opening track kind of settles you in but then the combo of Kayleigh, Lavender, Bitter Suite esclate the experience. So many great moments on here, will definetely listen again.
Interesting the wikipedia article suggests listening to Animal first, not sure what difference it would have made. Reasonably enjoyable middle of the road indie rock. Can't remember which song had "let's solve our issues with a 4x2" but that's my fave.
Nah, really didn't dig this at all. The waterfalls riff is the highlight.
When the opener first started I thought "this is ok" but then it really kicked into gear and wow what an album.
Faves: 125 MPH, The Charge, White Coats
Such a great variety, just a wonderful listen. I kpet picking favourites but then kept picking more, looking forward to a future playthrough.
Wow this is so great, such an epic record. Unfortunately not available on Spotify for me but keen to discover more.
Great choice, I like this band and this is a great album. Seasons is such a great opener, even A Dream of You and Me leaves me wanting more.
First listen I was like -- middle of the road jazz pop -- but I did start to warm to a bit on the second listen -- comfortable music.
This is great, love me a bit of sci-fi, and rap opera concept album!
When I started playing the album I got a little way into the second track before getting pulled away to do something, while I was away I found myself humming Gorrilaz songs that these guys have collab'd on.
Anyway, as I got back into the flow of the album I really started to enjoy it more and more.
Faves: Virus (for the DOS mention), Upgrade, Positive Contact. I'm sure I'll find more with more rotations.
Part 2 of a trilogy, so something that might be worth further exploration. Highlights from this sessions All the Pretty Little Horsies/Horses, The BloodBells Chime.
I quite enjoyed this, looks like I had a listen to these guys back in 2007 so nice to revisit and dig into an album.
I think I have a few more faves but for now Celebration Guns, Calendar Girl.
Looks like I gave the album, Next, on the 1001 list 3 stars. I found this a bit more engaging, quite dug the songs Snake Bite, and The Tale Of The Giant Stoneater.
There's so much to enjoy here, so much fun. One of those bands I've dabbled in and enjoyed spending time with today.
Faves: So many but let's go with Gimme Chocolate!
It really is the show that makes this special, the music along is mediocre at best.
Fave: Time Warp
Long been a fan of Mike Patton and have dived into Mr Bungle in the past so it was nice to revisit. So much to enjoy on this album, the whole feel and madness is so much fun.
Faves: Sweet Charity, None of Them Knew They Were Robots, and many more.
Started out feeling a bit middle of the road indie rock but I started to warm to it more on the second listen.
Faves: Staring Out the Window at Your Old Apartment, To Be a Ghost, June 21st
Arm's Length sounded really familiar, not sure where I've heard it before. Certianly another album that started growing on my after the second listen. And wow, an album from 2025!
Fave: Arm's Length
Not sure I quite understand, ok prolific artist, maybe that makes it hard to choose, is this different to thier normal output. Anyway, didn't really grab me, just a few moments.
Faves: Beautiful Girl, Clean Steve
Another curious one! Certainly Don't Marry Her caught my attention from the get go and piqued my interest. Have Fun, and Liars' Bar are also great.
What a great album, certainly looking forward to putting this on high rotation.
So many faves: Grown-Ups, Amateur Rappers, Realists, Barbarians, Industrialists
Hmm, video game music. While I can appreciate this may be a great influence on someone, unless you are familiar with the games, the context is lost on me.
Fave: Tast of an Angel
Certainly an album worth further explortation.
Fave: Movie
Certainly a band that has been sprinkled throughout my play history and probably deserves further exploration but I didn't find this album particularly inspiring.
Since it's almost Christmas, Fave: 12.23.95
Very Joy Division indeed.
Winning is a great track and seems to be their most popular. Contact the Fact and a few others piqued my interest so putting this on the listen to again later list.
An artist that I seemed to have spent a bit of time with back in 2020, certainly a delightful suprise and something I'll put on repeat.
A band I've dabbled in in the past and keen to explore further. Faves A Private Understanding, Male Plague, Half Sister
Certianly an interesting story. The album's ok with some highlights but nothing special.
Fave: Mother Writes
The best thing about this album is 14 songs in 37 minutes.
I've never dived into Bad Religion before and only know what I've heard here and there and now I have 28 listens in my history.
Nothing really for me here but Kerosone and Modern Day Catastrophists were interesting.
Certainly a band that reminded me of and seems to have influenced Rollins Band and a few others of that ilk.
Certainly a band worth further exploration.
Fave: Monkey Trick
Such a lovely album, just so beautiful.
Death with Dignity is grat, as is Fourth of July, and so many others, an easy 5.
I don't mind a bit of shoe gaze and Slowdive seem to be the champs.
Maybe it's also the rainy day vibe in my gloomy unlit office.
Faves: Alison, Dagger
Certainly an interesting snapshot of a time that is still very sensitive. I had heard his story before and probably saw this on a netflix special.
As an album to be reviewed as part of this project? No thanks.
Certainly a band that has piqued my interest and would like to explore further.
Faves: The opening track, Love Has a Diameter, 9/15ths, Machines.
I appreciate that this was the Christmas Day album, bravo. It's a nice relaxing listen.
This album grabbed me from the start. Can't say I'm overly familiar with this band but I certainly enjoyed this release and am keen for more.
Faves: Even Less, Don't Hate Me
There's not enough death metal in my life, this album is great, certainly worth another spin. :horns:
Faves: Zero Tolerance, Peternnial Quest
It starts and finishes quite interestingly but kind of loses me in the middle. Seems to promise something at the start but never quite deliver.
Faves: Titus Andronicus Forvever, The Battle of Hampton Roads
Love this band glad it has been added to this list. I haven't listened to this particular album much but that will be rectified in the future.
Faves: all of them.
An album that grows on you and that I have actually listened to before. I wasn't really sure after the first listen for this session but after the second I knew it deserved a few more.
Faves: The Lotts, Boys In the Better Land
On the first listen through I really thought "oh we had bloc party in the 1,001 list right?" but appears not so this is a great addition, thank you.
Faves: Helicopter, Banquet, Compliments
Lovely story, lovely sounds, thanks for sharing.
Gas is a band I have dabbled with in the past and Zauberberg 7 is in the sleep playlist that use. It was nice to sit through this release again, faves Pop 4 and Pop 7.
I quite like this and deserves a few more listens. I starts out quite promising but it does fall into the background a bit.
Fave: The Promise of Snakes
It's 1994 and Korn come on the scene, wow.
It's 2026 and I have to listen to another Korn album, nostalgia, yes, enjoyment, not so much.
Blind is the best track on this album.
Nice to hear some psych rock from somewhere other than US/UK. Thanks for introducing me.
No particular faves, just a nice overall vibe.
This was a great discovery, thanks for sharing. A band that has been lightly sprinkled through my past, it was nice to spend time with this album and I look forward to exploring further.
Faves: Airborne, Don't Leave Just Now
Automatic plus 1 for an Aussie submission but this album was already a 5 as I'm a fan of Alex Cameron and what a joy to listen to this album again.
Faves: Candy May, Runnin' Outta Luck, True Lies
Such a classic, and yeah should have been on the OG list.
The title track takes the cake for me.
Umm yeah, it's ok. Not really my thing but kind of groovy.
Faves: Homesick, Welcome 'Round Here
Thank you for sharing this. Long time Tool fan but never listened to this album before. This album is everything that Tool should be, just perfect.
Fave: 7empest, and so many more.
Interesting, I didn't know the origins of Werewolves so that was a nice discovery. Nightime in the Switching yard was interesting, the rest is meh.
Epic, right up my alley. Takes you on a very nice trip.
Faves: Easily DMT but it's all great.
I'm not sure where I sit with this band, probably needs a little more time.
Faves: TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME, Love It If We Made It.
Interesting, Wouldn't It Be Good is certainly a standout, the rest of the album is here and there.
Other interesting tracks, Gone To Pieces, I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.
I've been listening to a lot of Enjambre recently, which is more of an indie rock sound, but can't say my Spanish has improved much. I did quite enjoy this album and am keen to explore further, nice punky protest atmosphere.
Faves? hard to pick but mayne Ya Esa Bien and Domesticao.
Well after the political punk of yesterday this was a very smooth groove.
Fave: In the Stone
An old favourite and still as great as I remember. The Distance, Friend Is a Four Letter Word, I Will Survive, Italian Leather Sofa, all standouts but ever track is strong.
There's a certainly familirartily with this album and a relatedness to some of the lyrics.
There's also a bit of a sameness to the songs.
Fave: Chill out Tent
Another OK album. Love Rears Its Ugly Head is great. Elvis Is Dead is interesting. Everything else is meh.
Beautiful album, tragic story. Thank you for sharing.
Faves: Hmm not sure, needs more time.
The debut is an album we own and I gave it a 3 on the og list. I haven't spent any time with this album before now but did find it enjoyable enough to put on again in the future.
Fave: When I Grow Up.
Listened to twice but forgot to submit my review and now I'm too tired and can't remember much about the album. The BJM have always been a curiousity to me, never listened to this album before and keen to explore more.
Faves? I'm gunna say Fucker as I can't remember any of the other tracks at this time.
Not the best album to put on when jet lagged and trying to stay awake but still a nice relaxing listen. White Gloves has long been a fave of mine so was nice to hear in full context.
Ohter faves: The Man Who Took My Sunglasses, Balls and Pins
I quite like this, certainly very interesting and worth further exploration. Fatalist Palmistry was great, and Brook & Waxing was a highlight for the divine Simon.
Very enjoyable album even though I don't understand the lyrics - the feelings are right upfront. Ta fête sets the scene perfectly, Papaoutai hits harder when you know it means 'Dad, where are you?', and Formidable, Humain à l'eau, and Sommeil are all standouts. Stromae makes you feel it even without speaking French. Looking forward to giving this another spin.
First spin at SFO didn't grab me as hard as Stromae did, but the second playthrough clicked way better—maybe the back-to-work energy helped! "MYSTERY" was the instant standout (turns out I'd already discovered it on Spotify during bike rides in January without realizing it was from this album). "Holiday" and "New Heart Design" also really shine. Genre-blending hardcore that's more accessible than I expected—3 Grammy nominations for a reason. Strong 4, will definitely be exploring this further.
First listen felt chaotic, but by the end I was fully on board with the Montreal eclectic party energy. Curtis Mayfield opener (Astounded) and Youssou N'Dour collaborations (Montreal, Senegal) set the tone brilliantly. Standouts include Speed, More Shopping, Stepchild, and Love Cliché - nearly half the album! Rock Star provides the perfect gentle landing after such a wild ride. The everything-at-once approach actually works when you surrender to it.
Vibracobra is a great opener — love the long instrumental intro. Can I Ride gives me Pavement vibes and I'm here for it. Channel Changer and Duped are also standouts. Solid 4 stars, looking forward to exploring further. Seems I've only listened to one Polvo track before this (Fast Canoe) back in 2018.
Classic UK grime debut that holds up brilliantly. P's and Q's is the standout everyone knows, but there's so much more here – Sometimes, Nite Nite, Nobody Don't Dance No More, Signs in Life, and Boys Love Girls all caught my attention. Had to hunt down Typical Me on YouTube since it wasn't on Spotify, but it was worth it. Kano's only 20 here but the album showcases serious versatility. Solid 4 stars, definitely want to explore his catalog further.
A good fun frolic of an album. Chaos Space Marine grabbed me right from the start with its energy, and all the Billie Eilish mentions throughout really piqued my curiosity — how often does a band weave a pop star into their post-rock landscape? Snow Globes and Basketball Shoes are just great, sprawling epics that build and build. Knowing this was Isaac Wood's last album with the band makes the whole thing hit differently. An absolute gem.
This one really grew on me after the second listen. I Don't Want What You Got (Goin On) is a cracking opener — pure rock & roll swagger. Holiday in NY, Whatever Happened to the Girl in Me?, Garbage Day, and The Ex-Americans all caught my ear too. It's the kind of album where every track has something to offer if you give it the time. Well deserved spot on the 1001 list.
Started bopping along on the second playthrough. I do love a good epic 18-minute track and this was fun — the tempo changes and horn sections keep it interesting throughout. A solid listen but not one I'm in a hurry to revisit.
A double album of romantic, rainy Basque pop-rock that's easy to get lost in. Paraguas una tarde de diciembre gris and Carne de bar both caught my attention across both listens. Having been on an Enjambre kick lately, it's great discovering this earlier chapter of Spanish-language rock. Grammy-nominated for good reason — worth further exploration.
Having given Dogrel a 4 back in January, Romance shows just how far Fontaines D.C. have come. Favourite is an absolute cracker — that 12-verse-cut-to-4 efficiency really paid off. Starburster and Romance are equally brilliant. The whole album feels like a band who've figured out how to be cinematic without losing their edge. Grammy-nominated for good reason.
Ween is one of those bands I've dabbled in but never properly dived into, and Quebec makes a strong case for going deeper. The kickstarting opening of It's Gonna Be a Long Night straight into the clever Zoloft comedown sets the tone perfectly. Hey There Fancypants is a delightful genre-whiplash moment, Chocolate Town is curious, and The Fucked Jam is surprisingly cool. The genre-hopping keeps you on your toes but the dark thread running through it holds it all together. An epic closer too. Worth further exploration.
Another great BABYMETAL album that really showcases their evolution. The collaboration approach works brilliantly — "from me to u" with Poppy is a killer opener that sets the tone for the whole record. "RATATATA" with Electric Callboy is an absolute grabber, and then Tom Morello turns up on "METALI!!" which is just wow. If the self-titled was the introduction, METAL FORTH is BABYMETAL proving they can hold their own with anyone they share a stage with.
Sometimes is a lovely opener, Belter is great as predicted. Love the way his accent plays out on the title track and War TV. Worth playing again. Faves: Belter, Sometimes, Erratic Cinematic, War TV
Asylum, interesting story, quiet buildup for what's about to come. Every song has its merits, it's punk! Standouts: Banned from the Roxy, Women, So What. I don't know how much punk I need in my life but this was an enjoyable ride.
The opening two tracks are chef's kiss, and there are so many highlights along the way. Wake Up Time wraps everything up nicely — a perfect closer.
A wall of noise from start to finish. Lo-fi garage punk that doesn't let up. (My Head) is the standout — the melody actually cuts through the static. Appreciate the commitment to the aesthetic but one listen is enough.
An album that certainly deserves more attention. Rapture and Rejoice stood out as highlights — Pedro the Lion at their understated best.
As much as I appreciate the absurdist humour, this isn't for me. Some very eye-opening lyrics — Green's sardonic wordplay is undeniable, but the novelty wears thin over 15 tracks. Respect the craft, not my cup of tea.
