Jagged Little Pill
Alanis MorissetteCatchy, annoying, bad and good. A snapshot of the 90’s worth a listen but I still have trouble liking this
Catchy, annoying, bad and good. A snapshot of the 90’s worth a listen but I still have trouble liking this
Only song I knew was Personal Jesus Lush goth electro synth, sounding ahead and of its time all at once. A bridge between the 80s and 90s
Mesmerizing It’s been a while since I’ve listened and it still holds up in my opinion Epic jazz fusion that layers the smooth and subtle with overwhelming noise and mayhem
Surprisingly more in-depth then I was expecting. I knew the name but had another idea of what they sounded like. Dark breading and even angry. A mix of clash, blondie, pretenders, depeche mode
Raw and unfiltered Marley Doesn’t get the recognition but is solid past No Woman No Cry. That also makes the tracks not stand out, out side of an album listening
Guitar noise goodness Gigantic and where is my mind are so memorable Sounds so clear and crisp, production really helps add to the strength of the album
Not my favourite, IV or Presence is, but I think it is there best, too bad about the plagiarism and non credit
I always liked this more than Electric Wizard, that had the biggest hit and better album cover. I listened to this first because I heard GnR cover Buick Mackane. Catchy glam rock, hooks and dreamy layers
Lush loud and dreamy It did not impact me as much as so many others
I could never take the place of your man is a timeless Prince classic. Most of this album unfortunately stuck in its time. I can appreciate its influence at the time but I don’t feel it holds up
Masterpiece Love this albums diversity, every track hits the spot
Holds up well, only knew the single Wishing Well. Great vocals and musicianship, album does fade out near the end
Unconditional for the time or now, obviously influential as I can’t imaging anything sounding so loud and raw at the time, now it just feels like a lot of the music it influenced. Worth a listen within context
New wave Brit pop/punk/funk sounding a bit more indie experimental than their peers. Strong use of electronics to give themselves a distinct flavour
For me it was only about the hits
Not her best, but grew on me. Album listen
Emotional and lush Sound of Emmylou’s voice is memorizing
A bridge from the 60s to 70s pop, easy listening and country. Mesmerizing Vocals
On par with sgt pepper or pet sounds, if maybe to influenced by it, but also influencing like the beach boys or Beatles but not with the same credit. Vitoria and Arthur bookend the album perfectly that is maybe hurt by its Britishness in North America
Funky and groovy but found the lyrics did not stand out
Classic album filled with wonderful lyrics beautiful melodies, should be automatic listening
Worth listening to, lyrically thought provoking and great song writing. Tho personally I do not enjoy most of micheal stipes voice, I find it testing and distracting, personally. Songs like “the one I love” is great but overplayed and the vocals stand out to much in a way I can’t enjoy repeated listening. “End of the world” stands out as different from the rest of the album. Could be perfect to other ears. Also the guitar tone sounds so similar to what they do for the next ten years it sounds like this album could have come out in 1995
Brit talk rapping concept album Nothing I could get into
More familiar with later albums but this debut fits in well with sad but still upbeat sometimes bluegrass and country. Still prefer “Satan is Real” tho
Great debut, doesn’t get the attention his other albums do, looking at you damn the torpedoes. Bar band meet Dylanesque troubadour
Still my favourite and their definitive album
Art rock with hint of prog. Never amazed me, feels a little like it doesn’t hold up. Still listenable, musically interesting, vocals not so much
Start of a great run of albums, not my favourite but worth a start. New wavey groove art rock.
Well mastered for a live album, some poorly recorded vocals in parts. A time piece of his transition from acoustic to electrical
“I if I can’t change your mind” is the soundtrack to every 90’s movies montage. A lot of people I know find this album very influential but I first really heard it more than 10 years later. Good album but also sound of its time.
The album that popularized Rock n Roll is a mediocre country album in retrospect
Pop punk new wave masterpiece
Rock opera, doesn’t hit me like other great who albums, could not get into the filler tracks
A classic that I feel holds up but I’m looking at it from the perspective of discovery as it was release so there is a positive memory bias.
Much fuller and complete than his more acclaimed earlier albums. Still my favourite of his
Wonderful times less stories, sometimes can date itself in the music
Fun eccentric vibe, with dark lyrics Great album
Rollicking nice British folk pop. Great mix of talent and musicianship, vocals especially stand out
Wonderful first album, a early sign the bad would shift gears later on. Never given the attention the 3 albums that came out after this do. Poppy and catchy
More then the 2 famous songs in contains. Thoughtful songs and not to drown out.
Light and airy, a precursor to Air and late 90’s early 2000 electronic
Solid album punk hardcore pioneer, better than most than followed
Folk punk with hints of groove
Filled with Soul some funky, and grocery R n B, bringing the Temptations into the 70’s.
Masterfully crafted beats, songs emote feeling that gives you a sense of relaxing contemplation, must listen
Great representation of 90’s angst in an artful concept album that inspired many into the 00s. Despite the almost 6 hour deluxe edition that came out at a later anniversary, the original 2 CD/4LP release felt forced and a 1 cd/ 2 LP would have made this perfect
Artful, prog pop. With playful melodies, unique instrumentation, duel lead singers and interesting lyrics.
Lyrically provocative but musically less interesting
Avant-garden high concept art music that comes up short Sounds like an movie playing in the background but not one I care about. Albums by John Zorn, David Holmes, Cinematic Orchestra have done less conceptual albums with the same idea but are worth repeated listening
Beats by the bomb squad are great, the skits add to the great flow Ice Cube has. Lyrically the stories are harsh and dark making it difficult for some to listen to but give the album its rawness
The most cheerfully sad bastard music
Like any live album it’s filled with crowd noise. Worth a listen but JB translates his live sound into recordings it’s not much different, this is short enough to not be annoying
90s RnB that was ahead of its time Still sounds fresh.
Raw from the the floor blues that hits just right with every track
Doesn’t not hold up, or stand out of the time it was released, forgettable and boring
Great debut album. Virtuoso guitar and energy that jumps out at every listen. You can feel the energy of them live. Worth rested listening, they never matched this album tho they would still create great songs. One of the 70s rock albums that would inspire 80’s glam metal sound
Early Brit pop from a bad that is mostly known in North America for one song that isn’t on this album. Musically strong with British influences, lyrically thought worth repeated listen
I prefer dearly joy division like new order and you can hear a little bit on this , but more then that is a diverse synth pop/ EDM sound
Rough and unwavering in its lyrics and skits. A classic that represents hiphop at its peak. Great beats and great flow
Not a good or memorable as their other albums, but also no as Ska
More raw sounding roots Reggae than Bob Marley, which is ironic as it was polished up for international label release.
Beautiful folky sound. Lyrics that flow like poetry
Lovely harmonies but dated and flat
Messy dystopian future sounding electronic music. Non of their well known stand out hits make this album fall flat.
It sounds like it is stuck in the 90’s Overproduced but vocals are smooth Didn’t like it then not any better now
Chippy British new wave punk. Fun and somewhat dark at times lyrics. Unconventional sound.
Surprised at the accessibility for psychedelic folk rock. Almost every track was great
Poetry that sometimes becomes music.
Feels overproduced to sound live, catchy and infectious the more you listen
I rock musical/opera style epic from Elton’s imperial period
Beginning of 70s album country pop rock still influences today. Still a couple of forgettable tracks tho
A perfect album of story songs that encapsulates the American mythos. My favourite album of all time
Like Cindy Lauper She’s So Unusual, a time piece of thee 1980’s music that is both stuck in the moment and better than the era it represents.
Catchy, annoying, bad and good. A snapshot of the 90’s worth a listen but I still have trouble liking this
Wu Tang themed with great flow, beats are steady and I feel low key to let the lyrics shine
Post punk noise. Sounds like they are making it up as they go along
Beautiful poetic lyrics sung with a wonderful harmonic voice. Lush arty melodies and arrangements. Over and hour long but flows by effortlessly.
Relaxing jazz classic.
Brings jazz into the modern rock ethos, elements of funk and soul give it brevity and emotion
Psychedelic masterpiece concept. Flows from beginning to end. You’ve heard every song on the album even if you never heard the album before. Wonderfully ethereal. Hurt by the fact that it’s been played so many time that some people have heard it so much that it’s tiresome. So highly rated if feels overrated at this point
Over rated live time piece. Full of energy but lacking substance
Rock n roll n rocket fuel. The grizzly vocals and in you face attitude makes for a fun listen, this the must listen album for this band.
Sadly beautiful. Poetic and soothing. Modern sad bastard music.
Unique for and at the time, but does not hold up to time. Not and good as the album that followed “angel dust” very much tainted by the bands it inspired
Hodgepodge of production makes this unlistenable at times. Not an album that best represents this band Feels like 2 albums by 2 band mushed together the way the 2 singers are on it
One of the best rock debuts. Strong front beginning to end, must listen
Title track is beautifully perfect emotional resonance. Melancholy and worth repeated listens
