The Black Keys74 / 1069 Never listened to this all the way through as I assumed it’d be a boring run through, I was right. Don’t bother, Tighten Up is worth a listen though if you have somehow not heard it.

Never heard of Gene Clark (apparently from The Byrds), tagged as country. Low expectations. First track, country’ish but those lyrics, man, from there on just amazing. 5 stars. Not country in my eyes, something unique. The reason I’m listening to the 1001 albums.
96 / 1069 Meh. Top 1001...? I don't think so. One of the most boring things I've listened to.
105 / 1069 Took a while to know if I liked this or not. Clicked about halfway through. Lonely, sad, melancholic. Brilliant.
Such an intimate album, he clearly knew he was reaching his end and gave us this wonderful gift.
Meh - didn’t do much for me
73 / 1069 I had listened to the start of this album many times but not all the way through. I think it loses a little steam as it goes on (or I’m just overly familiar with the start!), but quite good. Solid 4 stars.

All killer no filler. I’ve listened to this album a lot, one of my favourites.
Interesting that this is on the list. I listened to this a lot when I was younger, but I don’t think it’s that fantastic. 3.5 stars when I first heard it in my youth and when I listened again today.
55 / 1069 The first Bossa Nova Jazz album to be recorded by American artists. Very cool sounding, nice rhythm throughout, just very chill. Not as interesting as the other forms of Jazz that have been on the list so far but is certainly relaxing. If I still drank would be perfect to have a whisky with!
78 / 1069 Found it on YouTube as streaming versions are not the correct version. Beautiful album!
Was expecting an overhyped eighties album. Got a brilliant album (which is undeniably eighties). 5 stars.
80 / 1069 An absolute classic album, sonically beautiful. There has been a lot written about this album much better than I could, if you haven't heard it do yourself a favor and go listen now.
81 / 1069 Sick beats, some great delivery. Really enjoyed it.
82 / 1069 Somehow had not heard this album. Fantastic Celtic Rock. As someone who loves Flogging Molly you can see where they got their inspiration from!
Ok. Some better than others.
84 / 1069 I have a view on the 80’s that many people don’t like. I’ll direct them to this album when they ask me in the future. Trash - first album I’ve nearly stopped playing in 2023.
85 / 1069 Never listened to Elvis Costello before, really enjoyed the album. Cool voice!
86 / 1069 Starts out strong, Lazy Sunday I knew and had played to death many many years ago. Other than that not overly exciting. Worth a listen, but tracks 1, 2 and Lazy Sunday are the ones you need to hear. Second half doesn't come off how I think they wanted it to.
Really great album, interesting sound and vocals.
88 / 1069 Not for me - I knew quite a few of these from their endless radio and TV adverts plays. I can see the appeal it would have for a lot of people, but I just can’t.
80 / 1069 Listen from last year - amazing! So much energy.
91 / 1069 If you get it, you get it.
92 / 1069 One too many genres, not sure what this is trying to be. Brimful of Asha I know from somewhere, and quite like it, but that’s about it.
93 / 1069 It grew on me, deserved a second listen. Went from half a star to 3.5. A lot going on, very interesting, need to check out some of his other stuff.
94 / 1069 Got better in the middle, but I'm again wondering why this should be in the 1001…
95 / 1069 Another album I really should have heard before now. I’d heard about half the songs but not the whole thing. Where is the bass? Such an oddly produced album, had to try a couple of different headphones as I thought something was wrong. I then read up and understand now, but it certainly takes it down a notch.
96 / 1069 Meh. Top 1001...? I don't think so. One of the most boring things I've listened to.
97 / 1069 Funny Disco
98 / 1069 Evokes memories and times that I'm pretty sure don't exist… interesting. Absolutely beautiful album; I'm a fan of Beach House, but compared to this I'm not sure they're as great/innovative as I thought. Not that it matters I guess, they're both fantastic. Anyway, absolutely worth listening to, easily one of the best albums to come off the 1001 list so far (although, somewhat ironically, I was thinking of playing this last night before it came up on the generator today).
99 / 1069 Prefer No Other, this is certainly more country. Still a great listen!
100 / 1069 Didn’t age as well I thought it may but still a decent album. Would be 3.5, I’ll round down.
101 / 1069 Starts off really strong, Jazz Rock as the description states. The second half (or second LP as it were) isn't as strong. Had it only been the first half an easy 4, but given the second half taking it down to a 3. Should have been cut down.
102 / 1069 Very chill, great first half. Second half ok but not a patch on the first, 5/5 for the first and 3-3.5/5 for the second.
103 / 1069 Thought I was going to hate it, 80's synth pop - everything I generally dislike. Quite a decent album, interesting sounds and arrangements.
104 / 1069 Too much pop - the songs that you know are good are good, the rest not so much.
105 / 1069 Took a while to know if I liked this or not. Clicked about halfway through. Lonely, sad, melancholic. Brilliant.
