MadonnaVery good electronica that I hadn’t heard before.
Very good electronica that I hadn’t heard before.
Classic break-up album. Dylan the poet spinning stories with ambiguous lyrics for us to interpret. Timeless stuff. And casual, laid back melodies that sound good even if you aren’t listening to the lyrics.
What a revelation! The only song I recall hearing before is “Immigrant Song.” It’s like hearing a whole undiscovered masterpiece. I know the acoustic songs didn’t please all the fans, but it’s still Led Zeppelin at their peak. And it hasn’t been played to death my whole life. Love it!
The Doors aren’t my favorite but as usual I enjoyed hearing songs that haven’t been played to death. Incidentally, it was interesting learning the origin of the name “Hard Rock Cafe.”
Never heard any of these songs before and they were terrific. Too long for radio. So glad I listened.
I’m not a huge Jazz fan, and thus may horrify those who are, but to me this instrumental trio played great background music for a party or studying. Sorry if that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but I did enjoy it.
As usual, great to hear the deep tracks. “Roundabout” is great but has been played to death. “Long Distance Runaround” gets played a lot, too. But “Heart of the Sunrise” was a revelation.
I’ve never heard any songs on this album and they are all great! The whole album is like a movie about bored young men looking for a good time in some town I never heard of in northern England. And they happen to be in a garage band, trying to make it big and get the hell out.
This album was a little too laid back and mellow for me, especially after the neo-punk Arctic Monkeys album that came before it.
I doubt that I ever would have heard this if I hadn’t joined this program. And it’s produced by Don Was, one of my favorite musicians and producers. The one false note was “Imagine,” which has been done so often. But I loved the rest!
Great cross cultural moment. It has the raw feel of a live show.
R&B is not normally my kind of music but I warmed up to this, especially when I realized these weren’t the usual R&B lyrics.
I love it! Never heard it before and it’s great! Like punk but more melodic. I guess that’s the mid revival influence.
I had heard the name of the band but never heard their music, which is unlike anything else I’ve heard. I looked up all the lyrics on genius.com, and the only comment on any of the songs could have been a comment on all the songs — every line is “wonderfully cryptic.”
Quite a contrast from MBV, where the lyrics were incidental. In this rap album the lyrics are essential. Great stuff!
Of course I have heard “Mr. Brightside” and other singles by The Killers, but I hadn’t really learned much about them until now. It’s interesting that their albums are even more popular in the UK than the U.S., because they sound very much like a neo-punk or new wave English Band. In fact it reminds me of The Arctic Monkeys debut album debut studio album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which I heard earlier. It’s not the same, but there are similarities. I love this type of melodic punk.
Very enjoyable! Lots of songs I hadn’t heard before by an artist I like!
Not my personal favorite.
Not my favorite, which is ironic since Coldplay is extremely successful. But I guess it’s too mainstream for me.
I found the lead singer’s voice annoying.
Reminds me of the Beatles, especially Rubber Soul and Revolver, which were released in the prior year. The American Federation of Musicians prohibited the Kinks from touring in the U.S. for four years around this time, apparently for rowdy behavior, which may have included brawling. That hurt their sales in the U.S., and made this album a mostly hidden treasure, despite the success of the single “Sunny Afternoon.” The Kinks were younger than the Beatles and Ray Davies admitted the Beatles were more organized and professional at the time.
I like Beastie Boys a lot, although this isn’t my favorite of their albums.
Loved it! Like music for The Wire.
This album may still be ahead of it’s time, but I loved it.
Love it! I’m not familiar with electronic genres, so this was a revelation!
Wonderful album! I was raised on Beatles records, not Rolling Stones records, so it's great discovering an early Rolling Stones classic. I listened to the U.K. version as well.
I’m not a huge CSB fan but it was interesting to discover Stills had a different band for a few years.
Accessible hardcore metal — surprisingly enjoyable. Not my favorite music, but a revelation nonetheless.
Very enjoyable. The story about how Iggy and David Bowie made the album and how it was rediscovered 20 years later was interesting, too.
This is one album I have heard before but it’s a classic.
Fun album that reminds me of Monty Python songs. Very amusing.
Very good electronica that I hadn’t heard before.
Very good, although I’ve heard most of it before.
Surprisingly dark lyrics. I’ve never really listened to her lyrics before, but a lot of them are about bad relationships. “Ain’t Nobody’s Business But My Own” even gets into physical abuse and beatings.
Very good. I’ve heard this one before but liked it again. The song about Gacy is chilling.
Very atmospheric.
There’s one song where Jack White sounds like Paul McCartney, the sweet one about children. The rest are more typical. Great talent.
Excellent old favorite.
Interesting band I never heard before, but not my favorite.
A classic that I actually had heard.
Okay, not my favorite. The Policecwere still doing a lot of mock reggae.
The songs kind of all sounded similar.
Nice. Not my favorite.
This album was totally new to me and I loved it!
Never heard of this band or album and loved it! Reminds me a little of Radiohead.
Great!
Loved it!
Great!
Good album, especially the parts that didn’t get played on radio.
Okay, not my favorite.
New one to me. Nice!
Not my favorite.
Adele is great but not my favorite.
Not my favorite rap album. Low key.
Nice. Not earthshaking.
Good Americana
Good album, very moving.
Didn’t excite me
I always love The Rolling Stones.
Nice instrumental!
Nice laid-back music that was completely new to me.
Good as usual.
Loved this English-Indian music!

Okay. A little too much high soprano.
I did not realize Thin Lizzy sounded so much like Bruce Springsteen.
The Who have never been my favorite, I don’t know why.
I can see it was groundbreaking, but the electronic noise just annoyed me. I did like one song.
