I love the guitar in all of the songs. There’s also a lot of cool synth and sound design stuff. I think V-2 Schneider and Sense of Doubt (oh my god SoD is so good) are my favorite songs on the album. The entire second half of the album where it gets all instrumental is AMAZING! I looked it up it’s in collaboration with Brian Eno so that makes a lot of sense. Closing track is perfect.
I loved every song in this album. Can't believe I've never heard it before! I like how each song is really distinct and even sometimes dips into different genres but the album still feels really cohesive.
This album surprised me. From the start, his voice was so soothing. I almost fell asleep. And the instrumental parts were so beautiful, too. Way To Blue's strings were just AH! He does a lot of chord progressions that remind me of like baroque music where it switches between the relative majors and minors. Overall, I love this album. I think I'll listen to a few of the songs again but it would have to be on a slow and rainy day.
Bossa nova and samba aren’t my favorite genres. I think the instrumentation, mainly the guitars and brass (I love brass!), through the album. I love Ben Jor’s voice, too! Even though I don’t know all the words of the songs, he sounds like a clever lyricist sometimes.
This album exceeded my expectations. I loved the atmosphere created by all the songs. The sound design for the synths felt a little behind the curve; Depeche Mode sounded more advanced 20 years prior. But so many of these songs were really pretty and just fun to listen to!
They're kind of obnoxious to listen to a whole album of, but the songs were all pretty fun and the music was really good in some spots!
Some songs have so much energy and some are really beautiful. I really actually love this album. Also I read that J.R.R. Tolkien likes Led Zeppelin, so they get extra bonus points because I'm a nerd. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals or lyricism though.
There are a lot of fun songs. I love the smooth transitions between a few of them. Never heard them before but I’m really glad I’ve found them now! Some of the vocals are obnoxious, though.
These all are classic. I love the vocals and harmonies. They feel old and homely. A bit simple. I like more complex tunes but these are fun to listen to. I imagine listening to a barbershop quartet out on the range.
This was so much fun I adore this album. This is the favorite album yet. I love how it’s just a series of conversations between friends about various topics, but all of them are deeper than they seem, at least in my opinion. Love this album!
I didn't think I liked country music, but this album was good to listen to. I think it was pretty simple and a little repetitive but it also felt comforting. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this album!
A lot of these songs have really cool musical ideas but I think some of them go in a direction I’m not really a fan of. Overall I think I liked the album, though. My favorite songs were Baba O’Riley and The Song is Over.
I loved this album a lot. I could hear the country roots of the band, but there were so many interesting design decisions that pushed it into the realm of alt-pop or alt-rock. I loved the textures and how it sounded almost like it was coming to me through a military radio. Also, the messages of a lot of the songs were sweet but slightly dark. I'm not really sure what else to say but I loved the album and want to listen to Wilco a lot more!
I loved this album. Not the most innovative but the songs were all a ton of fun to listen to myself. Had to stop working to get up and dance for a few of them! This is a really impressive album musically, too, I think. I added every single song to my liked playlist.
This was a great album. Lots of cool soundscapes when the album isn't a jam. But when it is a jam, it's a fun jam. And the lyricism is really cool too.
This album wasn’t the best. There were some cool moments, and a lot of the songs were musically interesting. But it also felt a bit monotonous; a lot of the same good thing gets a little boring. The guitar, bass, and drums were all great but felt very similar from song to song. There were some interesting song structures, too. I’m really not a fan of the lyrics or delivery of the vocals, however.
I’d say the album has its moments with I’m Not in Love and Artists Only. Those have great guitar parts! I kind of wish the album was an instrumental. That would eliminate the slightly annoying vocals, uninspired lyrics, and would force the songs to experiment more structurally.
I’m blown away by the technicality of this album. Every member of the trio is so on point. And the bass!! The bassist’s solos were all just brilliant. It was really cool to see how seamless this group is together. There is clearly a dialogue here and they are speaking to each other and to the audience without words. This album is really very impressive.
As a whole I’m not a huge fan of this album. It’s a little aggressive and not very poetic in my opinion. I can respect it for what it is and I understand why people would like this kind of music. The guitar and drums are excellent and the number of awesome riffs they came up with for these songs is impressive.
Really interesting listen. It’s waaay too aggressive for me. It’s definitely hardcore rock. I’m not a fan of the song/speak(scream) vocals and how gritty and distorted they are in the songs. But in most of the song the instrumentals are really great! The gritty guitar riffs, double bass, and energetic drums shine on this album. I would enjoy this album much more if it was either an instrumental or had different vocal stylings.
Don’t have much to say except this was just a lot of fun to listen to! Strong instrumentation and soloing!
This was such a relaxing album. I didn’t understand much of the lyrics but I could vaguely tell what the songs were about. My favorite parts were honestly the saxophone solos because the tone was so beautiful and soothing.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the vocals at first but then grew on me as I listened through the album. A lot of the songwriting was good and a little bit of it was great! I really liked the guitar and the bits where the intensity picked up. Overall, I liked this album.
Fun album, really energetic and super authentic! I liked it!
That was really aggressive and gritty. It does have an industrial feel to it. This isn’t a sound I’ve really heard much of and it’s kind of satisfying to listen to. The lyrics are kind of bare bones but they fit the music pretty well. I might listen to some more Killing Joke songs. I liked it more than I expected to.
The best word to describe this one is groovy. It feels like the 70s. The guitar work is excellent, and the album has a really good flow. It's not my favorite music, and I don't think the lyrics are too profound. The songs all have cool parts to them though. I think this is a decent album overall!
I liked lots of these songs more than Queen’s big hits. It had some really interesting chord progressions and song structures
I love any album that incorporates brass. The lyrics weren’t anything super profound but I enjoyed the music. There were some really cool parts!
This wasn’t a bad album, but there’s nothing really remarkable about it. It was pleasant while I listened but I probably won’t listen to these songs again.
Lots of really cool synthesizers! The songwriting itself wasn’t that great in my opinion but the sound design was really ahead of their time.
I really enjoyed this album. Although the vocals could be annoying at times (in my opinion), the concepts and songwriting were really creative. I loved the synth computer / guitar noise SFX!
Masterpiece. I loved every song. The instrumentation, lyrics, SFX, all of it was great!!
Such a beautiful album. I liked it more the longer I listened to it. It has really great dynamics between soft songs like Hallelujah and the intensity of Lover You Should’ve Come Over.
This was such a sad and pretty album. It captures life in the Southwest United States but also the messy relationships and hardships of people everywhere. I can see how this inspired Pressure Machine, which is one of my favorite albums. Lyrically, this album is really great. It isn’t the best album music-wise, but I loved the harmonica solos!
I think this album was solid. It had a lot of fun instrumental parts and the songwriting was great. I loved the guitar, drums, lyrics. The vocals weren’t my favorite but it fits the music and the genre.
Talking Heads definitely have a really unique sound. But I think sometimes their unique sound gets kind of old. The songs on this album were all pretty good, but they kind of felt monotonous to me. I can see why Psycho Killer is one of their most popular songs though!
Hello. I remember when that song was popular! It was good, but then as the album progressed I found myself thinking, “it’s just her singing to a chord progression.” I didn’t hear much instrumentation besides a repetitive chord progression for many of the songs. But on the second half of the album, I was proven wrong! Songs like Love in the Dark, River Lea, and Million Years Ago were great! Overall, I think the album is pretty good. Adele’s vocals are amazing and her lyricism is good. As the album progressed the instrumentation improved and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is an amazing soundtrack. I'd say as a soundtrack for a movie it's almost perfect. Shalimar did a great job of mixing Western music norms with Indian ones and the result was excellent!
This was a really difficult album to listen to. I found myself becoming transfixed and really having to focus on the music. I’d get lost in interesting chords and soundscapes. The instrumentation is brilliant through almost all of the album. I think so much of the album is really impressive and creative. But I do think in some areas it goes a little too far. I think Wyatt’s vocals and English-ness subtracted from the album in parts. The lyrics were hard to understand and even when I read them I didn’t think they were the most impressive. Overall, it’s an interesting album, but I wouldn’t put it on for fun.
I think it's a good rock album, kind of middle of the road with some really cool moments! Boulevard of Broken Dreams was great!
It felt like a combination of U2, Pink Floyd, and Depeche Mode to me. I really enjoyed the spaciousness and darkness of the album. There’s great range both in the album overall and in individual songs. The SFX and percussion are really cool! I really don’t have anything negative to say about this album!
A solid rock album! I really liked the flow of all the songs. I don't really have much to say except it was really enjoyable!
Pretty fun to listen to, found myself dancing a little. It has really impressive technical skill from all the band members and the songs are good, but I feel like there's something slightly bland about this album. Overall, a decent listen!
This album seems way ahead of its time. There were some songs on it that seemed way ahead of their time and there were some that definitely fit in with the 60s. I definitely want to listen to this one a few more times. Really enjoyed it!
There were some fun songs on here and I can definitely see why this album was included on the list. The Beatles are one of the most popular and influential bands ever, even if their music isn’t as great as some other artists. I think the songs were pretty basic, but maybe that’s why the Beatles became as big as they were.
The Beastie Boys need to learn about dynamics. They’re always really loud and obnoxious, but that might be why people like them. I liked the instrumental songs on this album and Sabotage was cool, too.
This album was so much more chill than I was expecting, from an artist called Primal Scream. I think it had cool moments and I liked the instrumentals but nothing stood out to me as exceptional. Good listen.
This was so cool and groovy. I loved the experimental sounds and heavy beats!
I liked this one more than a lot of other David Bowie albums. Not much to say except it was fun and I think the mixing had more depth than some other songs. It kept me interested.
This was a great rock album. Lots of fun to listen to even if the vocals are kind of annoying.
This album was beautiful and I loved almost every song. Definitely going to be listening to a lot more Chapman after this.
There are some really interesting structures and sounds that Fleet Foxes use. This was a really refreshing album to listen to and I loved the calm and positive vibes.
Pleasant listen. I liked the chords in hanky panky knowhow. Nothing that really stands out.
A lot of the album is too aggressive for my taste. The lyrics in most of the song are pretty dumb. The guitarists did a great job and the vocals are perfect (for punk music).
Maps and Y Control are easily the best song on the album! They have the most coherent lyrics and are a nice change of pace from the rest of the album.
Overall, I think it's a great punk album even if most of the songs sound a bit homogenous.
Good album. How many times can you say honky tonk in an album? A lot apparently…
This is a great album with a lot of range. It has melancholic songs like Bitter Sweet to epic rock songs like Out Of The Blue. The compositions and writing is amazing. The instrumentation is impressive and unconventional, too. Not the best lyrics though.
Heavier than I like but it has some really great musical moments and vocals. Some songs really turned down the aggressiveness. Behind the grit and dirt is great writing and musicality. Double bass is gritty and the guitar solos are epic. Overall this was a pretty solid album. Fun to listen to.
Well that was interesting… very experimental. Not very fun to listen to.
Great lyricism and calming music.
The music is genius! The lyrics are a little bit too sexual for my tastes though.
Classic metal album but I’m not a fan.
My favorite Bowie album yet! It’s so energetic and unique.
More dramatic than I expected. I liked it more than I expected. I laughed out loud at the line “I bet you say that to all the wolves”
Beautiful, great aesthetics, poetic
Really interesting sounds. This album is both very unique and really bland. They use some cool techniques but when they all come together all the sounds sound very similar. Round and Round is a great song. And I really liked the end of Run.
I can't say I've heard an album like it before. Really accurately depicts what the punk genre tries to embody in my opinion. It isn't the most pleasant listen but fascinating, unique, and artistic.
Great album! I think what Depeche Mode does well where other electronic bands struggle is in the songwriting. DM songs have good structure and (usually) great lyrics!
I loved every song. Amazing!
Some pretty great songwriting! Everything about the album was great for its time. It’s not quite my thing and I don’t think it aged as well as some other albums but I respect it.
Great musicianship. Sounded perfect.
Not bad, not great, not very interesting. I respect the songwriting but it didn’t appeal to me very much. The only song I really liked was After Hours.
Pretty great! And I played two of these songs in jazz band when I was younger.
Pretty fun album. Classic rock n roll!
I suppose I can appreciate it and respect it, but it isn’t my thing.
Pretty solid funk album. It got a little bit monotonous though.
Really cool sampling and it’s so rare to find albums that flow together this well like it’s all one song. Very unique and expertly produced!
I like the bright production and unique songwriting and the guitar and drums, but the lyrics don’t resonate with me and the vocals in most songs are obnoxious.
Great album! Loved how experimental they started to get in the later years. I liked almost every song.
Interesting sound, pretty decent album
I think this was almost a perfect album. Beautiful and melody driven. I love the vocals and instrumentation. Every guitar solo is amazing!
Amazing singing, and the songwriting was pretty experimental for the time
Not my favorite by the Cure
