Solid album, most of the songs sounded the same. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but there should be more variation. Some songs are really good, like “Big Me” and “Wattershed”. Overall a pretty enjoyable album. 7/10
Pretty chill, Miles Davis is just so good. Favorite track is either “Moon Dreams”, “Jeru”, or “Rocker”. Very stereotypical jazz, easy to listen to.
A masterclass in storytelling, groove, flow, and lyricism. This album is as close as you can be to perfect. As someone who doesn’t necessarily listen to lyrics, I still enjoy this album a whole lot. After paying attention to the lyrics and meaning, this album reaches a new level. It’s absolutely amazing.
Didn't know Pearl Jam was groovy like that. I like the variety of genres in the album, even though they follow the same rock pattern. Favorite tracks are "Once" and "Ocean".
It reminds me of The Velvet Underground’s banana album, but that makes sense for it being released in the same time period. Chill rock mixed with some like bluesy rock, nothing too special about it. I really like “Break on Through”, probably my favorite on the album.
An okay album. I’m not too into this genre, like it feels like NPC music to me. It’s a nice mix of pop and maybe a touch of like soul or gospel, but it’s not for me. I’m a fan of “Million Years Ago” though. “All I Ask” reminds me of Les Misérables
I mean, its fine? The music just seems super basic, and the distortion filter on the vocals just wasn’t right, it was getting repetitive over the album. IDK I didn’t really “feel” anything while listening to this album.
Interesting album. The vocals aren't the greatest, the tracks themselves seem unoriginal, the lyrics at times are completely nonsensical, and there are definitely some...interesting... musical decisions that were made. Definitely fitting for Mother's Day, with the band being The Mothers of Invention. I hadn't heard of this band, let alone the album and I'm kinda glad I didn't. +1 for the sick-ass album cover tho, this cover absolutely slaps.
I haven’t really heard of The Cure before listening to this album, and based on the album name/cover I was expecting some like metal type stuff. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised when I started listening to this album. I think it’s very musically and vocally unique, but I quite like it. “Play For Today” is probably my favorite track off of the album.
It sounds incredibly similar to Billy Joel for like basically the whole album, with the simple yet effective melodies and the soloistic piano parts. It’s a solid album, really.
More unexpected groove! Has some contemporary musical moments (for being a 1969 album) and some really nice and fun music! “Peaches En Regalia” is definitely my favorite, as I think it’s the grooviest tune of the album. I think it’s interesting seeing how short the album is, only having 6 tracks, but longer songs to make up for it.
I swear 1969 is this website’s favorite year. I’ve gotten so many albums from this year. Anyways, this one is super mid. Sounds like a typical 1969 blues rock album. That’s about it.
I do in fact love me some Radiohead. I love the unique vocals and difference in style of music that differs from other artists. Personally, I’m more of a fan of late Radiohead, with more electronic instruments and less acoustic, but The Bends does a good job of blending the two together and acting as a transition into the “new Radiohead”.
To be completely 100% honest, I don't like Cee-Lo's voice. His lyrics and flow are amazing, but his physical voice lowkey gets annoying. This album is an elementary hip-hop album, I'm not saying it's that awful though. "Childz Play" is probably my favorite, with its super swingy triplet feel, IDK it's just groovy. However, with the nature of the genre, the songs get pretty repetitive.
why am i only getting albums from the 60s. they’re all the exact same and boring asf.
Reminds me a lot of “Remain in Light” by Talking Heads. Very groovy, like experimental funk stuff. It kinda gives me a weird vibe when listening to it, though.
Cool album! Personally I’ve always felt Radiohead’s lyrics are pretty nonsensical in the sense that you need to really dig deep to understand what’s going on. About the music, most of it is great. I love “We Suck Young Blood”, “Sail to the Moon”, “2 + 2 = 5”, and “Sit Down. Stand Up”. I’m personally a bigger fan of “modern” Radiohead with the use of electronic music over acoustic. This is probably my 3rd favorite album from the band, only behind “OK Computer” and “In Rainbows”.
Sweet album! TBH I always thought Coldplay was like a bit more pop-oriented, but this was a nice album of something I didn’t really expect. All of the songs were solid, none were bad but none really stood out. Overall it was pretty good
if the first song didn’t exist, i think the album would be netter. some weird 20 minute experimental song to open the album seems quite unnecessary. the rest of the album is pretty good, though. i like “The Taut and Tame” a lot.
This album is like the definition of short and sweet. Only 8 songs, but they’re all good, and the album exceeded my expectations. I thought it was just going to be a typical 80s Sugarhill Gang-esque hip-hip album, but there was so much more. The Message really brings a message to be heard to the world. I personally enjoy “You Are” and “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash” the most.
I don’t know how to describe it, but I really like this album. I love the range of genres that’s present throughout the whole album. I personally love “Squares” and “Broke” the most. I genuinely have no idea how to describe the genre of those songs, but they sounds really nice.
idk, i personally don’t like it. it seems like depressed country music, which is not what i’m in to. i feel like people who like this kind of music would really like this album, though, so bonus for that.
Bill Callahan’s songwriting is incredible throughout the whole album. I also really like his authenticity for each song, like his voice just sounds so real and genuine. His vocals are very spoken, but there’s just enough or musicality in his voice that makes it feel like he’s telling a story, just through song. I also just like the music, too, also very authentic with acoustic guitar and acoustic drums. It’s a very cozy album, which it does a great job portraying. I feel like I’m sitting around a campfire while Callahan sings these stories to us.
got better later down the album, but lowkey wasnt great. songs were repetitive, and i didnt like the reverb on the vocals in almost all the songs. could barely make out the lyrics.
this is legit an awful album. the vocals are so bad. i really like the instrumental, but the vocals are actually some of the worst ive ever heard.
