This is also outside of my comfort zone. I really just don’t get these classic rock bands. Old music mixes and recordings are mostly jarring and these songs in particular just sound annoyingly repetitive so far (I’m on track 6 of UK edition) I did listen to the US exclusive Paint It Black first and I honestly like that one. I’m halfway through the album and Paint It Black is the only song I like. Yeah, I hated this. The singing is nasal and everything is annoyingly repetitive. 1/10
TRACK BY TRACK 1. Too High - I have never listened to Stevie Wonder before. Jazz is outside of my comfort zone. This is my first time actively putting on his music. Of course, I knew his name and of his legendary status. Immediate thoughts: not the voice I was expecting. I dig the descending 'doodoodoo's. Bit repetitive for me but I would put it on as background music. 2. Visions - I wish the song ended at 4:12 when he says "an ending...". I like the song. I'm still not a jazz fanatic. 3. Living For The City - Nice transition from the previous song... 1 minute in: okay maybe I'm grooving... The political skit halfway through is unexpected. Sounds like an end-of-album type of track. 4. Golden Lady - Catchy. Is that a key change at the end? I like it. Might be my favorite so far. 5. Higher Ground - 6. Jesus Children Of America - 7. All In Love Is Fair - I realized I stopped paying attention towards the end of this song so I'll be revisiting the last three songs on this record. Sorry. I was playing Roblox. 8. Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing - Wow, sounds like a drastic change. I dig it. This is definitely more my style. Loses my attention as the song goes on, though. 9. He's Misstra Know-It-All - This sounds like it would be a well known song. Update: Wikipedia confirms it was released as a single. Tee-hee. REVISIT 5. Higher Ground - So, this was the lead single. Let me listen and actually pay attention this time. Update: I don't really dig it that much. Would groove to it as background music. 6. Jesus Children Of America - This is forgettable too. I stopped paying attention again. 7. All In Love Is Fair - I like this one more than the last two. Glad I revisited. FINAL THOUGHTS I would have never listened to this had it not been for this challenge. I don't know if I'll keep doing track by tracks every single day as it's quite time consuming. But I'm excited to hear more music and educate myself on classic and popular albums. 7/10 - Enjoyable listening experience
Never actively listened to David Bowie. Excited to hear some of his stuff today. I’ll add my favorite tracks down below: * Life On Mars (I was familiar with this one already) I’m on the last song and nothing has really captured my attention. David is not my jam I think.
I like OK Computer by Radiohead but that’s all I really know from them. I’m excited for this! TRACK NOTES 1. Everything In Its Right Place > obsessed with the beginning 3. The National Anthem > I think I’m gonna enjoy this album a lot. This is reminding me of a lot of Art Pop music I really like (Kate Bush/Björk). I love the horns. 5. Treefingers > This kind of ambient shit is fucking amazing. This album sounds ahead of its time. 8. Idioteque > It’s giving Crystal Castles. I can see myself putting this song on an industrial or creepy music type playlist 10. Motion Picture Soundtrack > Oof I wish this song was longer!!! I like slow ethereal songs 11. Untitled > I like how it continues on from the previous track. It’s a vibe. It could have been an intro to a song as well. I dig this project. Enjoyment score: 9/10
I am not a huge MJ fan though I admit he has some very iconic tunes. I know most of this album already, I’m not gonna listen to this all the way through because I’m doing this challenge mainly to discover new music. I’ll review the songs I haven’t heard before. SPEED DEMON - I like the rapid percussion. It’s experimental. LIBERIAN GIRL - Wow! The transition from Speed Demon to this was magnificent. JUST GOOD FRIENDS - I don’t care ANOTHER PART OF ME - I also don’t care and I’m tired of the HEE HEE MAN IN THE MIRROR - repetitive 4/10 I like most of the singles, but Michael Jackson is so overplayed for me I would never just put on his music and listen to it… an undeniable classic, though, just not my cup of tea
Ugh… Not my vibe. I’m gonna skip the songs I already know. 1. Hello: skipped 2. Send My Love: skipped 3. I Miss You: bland 4. When We Were Young: good! This was a single, too, wasn’t it ? 5. Remedy: forgettable 6. Water Under The Bridge: skipped 7. River Lea: forgettable 8. Love In The Dark: I’m getting tired of these purely sad piano ballads and I haven’t even been listening to half the album 9. Million Years Ago: liked it 10. All I Ask: don’t care 11. Sweetest Devotion: good closer I guess I wouldn’t call this album a classic as much as 21
Not my style but very nice Sounds a bit the same all the way through Favorite tracks: Caroline Says I, Sad Song, Berlin 6/10
Never heard of this so let’s see 1. Overcome. Cool, creepy. Eerie. I digs. Sounds like a video game score 2. Ponderosa. Equally eerie. I digs but I can see myself getting tired of the vocals on this record 4. Hell Is Round The Corner. Did Alessia Cara sample this? Update: they both sampled another song from 1971. Cool find 6. Aftermath. Yeah, this album is basically the same vibe all the way through. Good songs, but the same thing all the way through. 9. Suffocated Love. This one’s different. But yeah, I’ve grown tired of the vocals (female vocals mainly) 10. You Don’t. I’m glad we’re getting some variety now in terms of sound 12. Feed Me. Might be my favorite All in all, quite Silent Hill-y. Would put it on as background music when playing a horror game but that’s probably it.
Obviously a household name!! But I have to say I’ve never put on an Aretha Franklin record. So I’m really exited to get into her discography today. Update: I’m on “Ain’t No Way” and have been completely immersed. Love it! It’s not what I would normally listen to but she’s an undeniable powerhouse
Never listened to korn. Ok I’m gonna skip this one I think. So far I’ve given every album a chance but this is just not enjoyable for me. I’m doing this challenge as a way to educate myself and discover popular music but I can’t get into this at all. I like some heavier stuff like Metallica and In This Moment but this is not the tea for me. Lacks melody and is just so one-tone IN MY OPINION. So I’m gonna respectfully skip this Made it to: track 7, Pretty
Like the beatles much more than rolling stones 7.5/10
Enjoyed a lot My kind of rap 8/10
Nice Last song unnecessarily long
Half familiar with them. Saw them live at a festival once. This is like… electronic rock? Or ? It’s not not something I would listen to. It sounds ambitious and very forward considering release year. I like how the songs transition
I listened and liked some of the vibes but my mind started drowning it out cause it was too much of the same for me
It’s the same song over and over and you can’t tell me otherwise. I like this kind of music, don’t get me wrong. But an entire album of the same is just ughhhh
Know his name, obviously, but never listened to him He sings a bit like he’s drunk. It’s special I like: Badlands, Something In The Night, the outro to Racing In The Street, The Promised Land 6/10 because it has great songs but suffers from good start boring finish album syndrome
Not my style but enjoyable. The emotion comes through.
Knew it already. I like the cars
8/10 Fun
Knew already Skipped first half Fav new track: Autumn Goodbye
FAVS: Back In The USSR, Dear Prudence, While My Guitar…, Julia LEAST FAVS: Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Yer Blues 6/10 too long
Obviously know the album cover and band name Know the songs but surprised to find them here as I never could place them I don’t like the screaming I like Come As You Are, Something In The Way
Hated
Another fucking live album?
Can’t stand this so I’m quitting one track in
