Hunting High And Low
a-haListed on headphones via Amazon Music Ultra HD. Did not finish bonus tracks. Fun find was The Sun Always Shines On TV. Interested to hear it again on bigger speakers.
Listed on headphones via Amazon Music Ultra HD. Did not finish bonus tracks. Fun find was The Sun Always Shines On TV. Interested to hear it again on bigger speakers.
Listed on headphones via Amazon. Overall had some nice and varied production. Million Years Ago was a surprise track.
Listened through headphones via Amazon. Certain parts stood out as new, having not listened all the way through in quite some time. Listened to some of the bonus tracks from the 20th anniversary edition. The By_Myself remix featuring Steph along with Kyur4 Th Ich were nice finds. Listened to it too many times for it to not be a 5.
Listened mostly in the truck and the last few songs on the phone via YouTube Music. Been a while since listening all the way though. Planet Caravan, Electric Funeral, and Hand of Doom were all great to hear again. Definitely the foundation for a lot of music that came along later. Dynamics were also better than I remembered.
Listened to this on my phone and the last half in the truck via YouTube Music. The instrumental tracks Junkie Chase and Think were cool. The album has fairly long jammy tracks. Would be interesting to see all the rap albums that have sampled or taken inspiration from this soundtrack and movie.
Listened mostly in the truck and then the last two tracks on the phone via YouTube Music. Half of the tracks are classics and ubiquitous with being alive in America. The other half are still very solid jams. Enjoyed the lesser known tracks Of Wolf and Man, The God That Failed, My Friend Of Misery, and The Struggle Within that closed out the album. Don’t step on snek.
Listened in the truck via YouTube Music. First song is a classic and maybe my favorite of theirs. The rest of the album has some good songs, but there’s also some like Land Ho that are just odd. I’m hoping this isn’t the only entry for the Doors in this list.
Listened mostly in the truck and some on my phone via YouTube Music. The voices are the standout, but there’s also instrumentation that is sparse but important to the overall feel. Very reminiscent of the orchestral pieces added on to Nick Drake’s music. Had some fun covers too, like Help. Nice Sunday morning album and will definitely give them more air time.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. The singing all sounded the same but the words were great. Way more a poet than singer. The last couple songs I liked best.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music Chose the expanded edition that had three bonus tracks on top of the twenty four original tracks. Lots of great production from Dilla, Doom, etc. First time listening all the way through a Gjost album. Definitely been missing out on this one at least. They definitely aren’t making rap albums like this anymore and deserves to be on this list.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Always been a Bob Marley listener like the rest of the world. I think Peter Tosh’s music may be more interesting. The guitar and keys/organ work is really fun, and has more gospel and blues influence. Other than legalize it I was not familiar with the rest. Most could be sped up and be fun punk/Sublime style songs. Definitely will end up purchasing in the near future.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to Pet Sounds all the way through. Lots of great songs which is why it’s a classic. You can really hear where Panda Bear and Grizzly Bear get a lot of their influences. I chose the 40th anniversary version and the dynamics were great. Can’t imagine what it was like to listen to this back when it came out. The drumming sounds are a standout. Interesting timing for this to be generated since Brian Wilson just passed a few days ago.
Listened in the truck via YouTube Music. The audio quality varied between tracks as well as volume. Lots of short 3 minute or less songs with his typical high pitch squeals. You can definitely see where the Blue Brothers and late 70’s and 80’s rock artists got their saxophone solo inclinations from. All in all I’d like to return to this on a different medium and try listening again.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. There are only 4 tracks each over 12 minutes I believe. The music is repetitive and hypnotic. They rhythms don’t get old as they’re repeated and expanded upon. Whenever I’ve heard Fela’s music I’ve always enjoyed it. This just gives me the reminder I need to listen way more often especially since he has such a large catalog.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Definitely need to take another listen as there were a lot of interruptions. The songs were longer than expected and had lots of fun flourishes as is Eno’s style.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Top two Beatles record for me. Listened many many times before and will listen many times more.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This one never gets old. Peter Hook actually just played at the bandshell but we weren’t able to go. I’d give it a higher rating if I could.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had only listened to their singles before this and it was much better than expected. Like a rough around the edges Daft Punk. Having recently listened to a Broken Record podcast with them I’ll definitely be giving the rest of their catalog a listen and check them out at a show in the future. The sample from Three Six Mafia’s Stay Fly was a fun surprise.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Not sure why this is on this list. It’s mood music for accordion lovers. Like Eastern European Thievery Corporation. Not horrible, just not something that would interest me again unless I was throwing a Greek themed dinner party and wanted a chill vibe.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Very nice chill jazz. Definitely of the Mad Men era. This is the kind of record that wants me to deep dive into jazz but knowing where to start is difficult.
Listened in the truck via Amazon music. Soundscape was awesome but songs were not. Highlights were the guitar and key sounds.
Listened via YouTube music in the truck and on IPhone headphones. So many classics on one album. She is the queen and everyone is just doing poor imitations.
Listened via YouTube music on iPhone headphones and the truck. This is about as classic as they get and never gets or feels old. Only shredder like him now is Mdou Moctar. Getting to see him again at Shaky Knees in a few months.
Listened via YouTube music in the truck. Had heard most of these songs before from his best of album but the other tracks were really good if not a bit more country bluesy than the singles. Very much still a classic.
Listened via YouTube music in the car. This is probably the Pixies album that I listen to the least, but it’s still a classic. The B sides from this are great too. Emilia enjoyed listening to it too.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. If I ever listened to this all the way through it would have been around when Demon days came out. Lots of variety here, but this was just the beginning of what Gorillaz would become. The Clint Eastwood remix at the end was a fun surprise.
Listened in the truck via YouTube. Tried YouTube Music and Amazon music first but the mix was real thin with no bass. Turns out that just may be the way the record was mixed. All in all the singles were bots for a reason and the rest sound like B sides. There’s definitely some remnants of influence from the Cure and some glamrock in the tracks. Fun record overall.
Listened in the truck via YouTube Music. This has some fun samples and beats but all sounds very homogeneous. None really stand out from the others. Has Avery specific vibe and sound that may have been too much for an 18 track album.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Most tracks were fairly short as to be expected from a punk group. There were some standard length songs though and the last track Shut Down was almost 10 minutes long. It was the standout track. Darby’s vocals though are just so over the top guttural that it takes away from a lot of the music. Some surf influence can be heard and makes more sense for Sublime’s influence later of punk mixed with surf and reggae.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. The album gets more interesting as it goes along. Bridge Over Troubled Water definitely had cultural significance, but I find there’s a lot more interesting sounds. Cecilia, The Boxer, and of course The Only Living Boy In New York (personal favorite due to it being on the Garden State soundtrack). All in all a strong record.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This is more reminiscent of the orchestra concert we saw of hers at the Arscht Center. Very light sounds. Enjoyable for a Sunday morning or a rainy evening.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This is an album that definitely left a mark and Beastie Boys had a unique take on boom bap rap. The style is dated, but still fun to listen to. Slow and Low was a fun find.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had not listened to this album at all before today. It could have been made anytime in the past 40 years. Mixing elements of rock, dub, and some electronic sounds it is an album of grooves. Most lyrics are simple except for the last track which is also the longest. Will for sure be checking out more Beta Band after this.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Of their albums (other that We and Pink Elephant) I’ve listened to this one all the way through the least. This has some of their biggest songs, and after listening again, the rest of the tracks are great as well. I wonder how much Will was a part of their sound now that he’s left the band.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had never heard of this guy and had no idea what to expect when starting this up. Based on the cover I figured it was jazz, but it was more a cross between a Sinatra and Neil Diamond. Other than the sound of the crowd which was very loud at the beginning of the record, the rest sounded really good for a live record from 1964. Not something I would have chosen to listen to on my own, but not bad either. I guess that’s the whole point of the list.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. 14 songs most around 2 minutes long. It’s the Beatles, it’s great.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This one has a very old school rock and roll sound. Some of the tracks are fairly short when they’re known more for longer songs like Bohemian Rhapsody. One of the last songs even had a Beach Boys esq quality to it.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This was surprising and fun garage rock to the max. You can see where everyone from Kyuss to Fuzz were definitely influenced by this. Fun long jams.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had never before listened to a Kate Bush album. This is really centered around her voice as it should be, but the music is special too. It definitely has an 80’s sound that is specific to the time it was made, but there are some timeless songs. The Fog was an amazing song that shows very few listens online when comparing to the singles from the album. This Woman’s Work is where the “Ah hauuuu” that I’ve heard many times before without reference comes from. I’ll definitely be digging into more of her body of work.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Finding out the first track was the Wild Boyz theme song was a lot of fun. This is fun punk with a lot of lead guitar adding a very rock and roll flavor to it. Fun but not sure about needing to listen to it before I die.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Emilia seemed to enjoy. Has a lot if the hits. The most dated one is Makin Whoopee. Just sounds ridiculous.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. This has some classics and just an all around cohesive vibe. Has been a top Neil Young record for me for a long time and was probably the first one I ever listened to front to back. It’s an all time classic with no real fillers.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Very much in the same ilk as all the 90’s boom bap sample rap. Not sure this was a definitive album of any kind.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I definitely didn’t pay attention as much as I should but all of the songs I’ve heard before and half of them are classics that are played all the time. It’s a great album.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had not listened to this one all the way through. My main Slipknot album is the one prior to this one. The end of this has Vermillion, Pt 2 which is a continuation from the previous album. It’s good but not quite as good as the original. The remainder of the album sounds like a Slipknot album. It has a lot of plays on YouTube so it must be popular.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat down and listened to Thriller all the way through. Over half the songs are classic singles, so I’d heard most of it before just not in sequence. Fantastic production with world class musicians.
Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Fun album. Never had listed to a Faces record before. Can’t believe they let the bassist sing songs when they had Rod Stewart in the band. It’s a fun party Rockin kind of album.
