Listened to track one and liked the vibe.
Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground - for some reason the bands in this niche have found their way into my taste buds. Not what I would have expected being a post punk jawbreaker fan, but there it is.
Love the art not the artist.
Enjoyable in the way a trip to a modern art museum is enjoyable.
I like two of his songs and the rest kind of blends.
dear god I can't believe i got through that. is there a zero stars option?
Muuuuch more bluesy than I associate with the Rolling Stones. enjoyed more than I thought I would. Less rockstar cheese than what the band feels like it is right now.
not sure what to say about the strokes. i feel like i should really like them, but they're just kinda ok. they definitely have a sound. they found themselves. they have some big hits and recognizable songs. i'll give it three stars for quality music with the caveat that i wouldn't listen again without some prompting.
my first thought was "Is this Dolly Parton?" it's nice to have a little countrified music in the rotation. I find that going back to this more folk/bluesy country from the 70s is more palatable than rockin' jesus country of the 90s and 2000s. I might favorite a song or two. 3 stars for beautiful voice and music. beautiful guitar. even some steel guitar I think. well orchestrated.
I love Radiohead but all i can think of is Fred Armisen's impression of the dude.
Historically significant but a little maudlin for my tastes.
more in common with Led Zepplin than statan worship.
An historically important band that listened to a lot of Regge. going beyond the hits is nice.
with the Sinners movie just coming out, this band might get some more notice. The NY Fairytale is a favorite of christmas romcoms, but I don't think now as much about the Punk and Clash influences on this band.
about 50% of DM's music is rad and the other 50% is that i want somebody to love stuff.
undeniably lovely and masterful music making, but not my jam
Background music. If you are a musician, probably inspiring.
Once I heard Maps I was hooked. They have a cool blend of rock punk, Pat Benatar. Karen O crying for real on the Maps video was awesome. Real emotion thats why I listen to music.
lovely voice. hear things that could become tori amos. not nec my style.
Mix the Rolling Stones and The Velvet Underground and you get the Kinks. Enjoyable.
Nice. The blues influence is there but its not quite so bold. Feels more evolved. Something added. Nothing corny.
I didn't realize just how bluesy TRS were
i have listened to pet sounds a couple of times. i understand its significance intellectually. but it's kinda like listening to classical music.
Good blend of rock and atmospheric sound. It's nice to have a short album in the mix with many of the epic 2-disc anthologies on lists like this.
This album combines two sounds that I hate. Water droplets and inoffensive soft padded drums that are like a laptop keyboard. How is this album supposed to make me feel? Like a preteen girl watching Dawson's Creek?
It's U2, which means some solid pop rock hits and then a bunch of crooning. Too much jerking off about new york. prob wouldn't listen to this entire album again, but def added some singles to my favorites.
Surprising band. Did not know about the range of music they play.
I could do with out the doo doos and bop bops but more listenable than I would expect. some recognizable songs and guitar riffs. a bit bubblegum for a jaded genx like me
The hits are great and there was a lot more musical variety that I assumed. Very much a product of the time, Led Zepplin, Rush, Sgt Peppers etc heard in there. But also a little cheesy in places
My estrogen levels went up a lot. She's great, but I like Tori Amos's crazy lyrics better.
fun and would be great to dance to especially give po man a break
ES was in my rotation a lot. He and Frank Turner can really stick the knife in and make you feel it. ES had a tragic end. Almost as bad as Daniel Johnston
I liked this Doors album much more than I thought I would. It was a nice departure from the hits. Compared to Van Morrison and some of the contemporaries, The Doors do the blues rock thing in a way that seems more authentic. Not sure how to quantify that.
What can be said about this album that hasn't been said before. There are songs from the beatles that I really like. There are songs that I appreciate. There are songs that feel like circus music. There are songs that are happy clappy outdated 50s bubblegum. I've always felt like The Beatles didn't belong to me; they were a part of music history, but they belonged to the baby boomer generation. Songs like Get Back and Say You Want a Revolution don't feel dated to me; they feel accessible to me and move me the way a contemporary rock song would. There are a lot more songs now that move me now that I've heard more of their albums. I'm going to rate this album based on how much I would listen to it again. In that regard, it's kind of chore. How much do I listen to Beethoven or Bach or other music history?
Might be my favorite Beatles album. Definitely walks the line between creative and circus music, but more successfully than magical mystery tour, which feels more campy. It's the Beatles. I listen to the opening song a lot. wish it would go on longer before ringo starts singing.
Definitely not my bag. I'm not a huge fan of Karma Chameleon really, but it's catchy. The back up singer outshines boy george sometimes. he did a lot of queer culture and the guy has a beautiful voice. on a technical note, there are some nice keyboard parts. wish they were mixed a little louder, at least at some points.
it's nice. i'm sure if I paid more attention to it, I'd pick out the subtleties. but as I'm working its kind of a wash of sound. I think i owuld probably like it if I mellowed out and paid attention to it. on a road trip i think i'd fall asleep. after I finished psycho candy, a track from JAMC from Automatic came on and it was night and day. vocals more up front in the mix, faster tempo, more prominant beat and guitar.
Enjoyable to listen to. Love the hits and the other songs that I heard on the album were either as nice or pleasant bg music. 3 stars for beautiful voice. would listen to a few tracks of this again.
Enjoyed it much more than I expected. Going back to the source of all of the Ska tropes in this album, but it feels fresh and authentic. Might listen again.
cock rock without toxic masculinity. cocaine fueled meedly meedly guitar shredding solos. satisfying. would listen again
not sure what to say about this one. lovely, virtuoso, annoying, forgettable, background music, beautifully mixed, fantastic audio, not interested in listening again.
not as poppy as I expected. edgier. boyfriend-fkd-me-over songs. collaboration with Haim. would i listen again? maaaaaaybe? i was humming that no body, no crime song and of course i have shake it off favorited. so ok yeah i'll give it three stars.
An easy way to go back to the 80s and have a nice time. Some timeless hits. A few make it into my library. would listen again.
This album makes the musical language that we are all familiar with (the ow! and hey-hey!) feel fresh again. Nice to go back to the 70s to more of the source. would listent to a couple of these songs again so it gets a 3 with reservations.
this feels like a bunch of classic rock cliches. like put rush, pink floyd, zepplin and maybe some disco into a blender. this is the most melodic racism i've ever heard.
how many times have i listened to this album? what else can be said. i haven't listened to it in yonks, but this is part of my teenage years in an inseperable way. probably foundational to the friendships here taking part of this group.
what the fuck am i listening to today
NOPE. done. fucking done. can't stand this waterdroplet drum sound. violent hatred. water torture. I'm having a violent reaction to the audio, to all the sounds coming out of this. zero stars
It's Stevie Wonder. I don't know what to say but it's just laid back and enjoyable. I don't feel any stress when I'm listening to Stevie, but it has more edge, more substance than happy clappy hippie crap or smile till your muscles hurt disco. A delightful blend of funk and soul that welcomes you. this process might make me a stevie wonder fan
There's no way to impugn the guitar playing, the signing ability, the music craft quality. It's impeccable. I just don't feel groovy. I like folk music, but not this rainfall and thyme bullshit. i think that says more about me than S&G. still id like to see GWAR punch them.
This album makes me want to travel back in time, get into a bar fight and get thrown in jail in California just so i could watch this show. Johnny Cash does not screw around, mince words or waste time.
This was my dad's favorite guitarists so I've heard this one a lot. Love the hits and the rest of the album is nice but not my jam. 2 stars only because i probably wouldn't listen to it again unbidden. sorry dad
This album is too complicated to review in one listen. There is stuff I like. and there is stuff I probably don't like. And there is stuff that I don't like that i will probably like if I listen a couple of times.
This was nice. I felt like I learned a new historical musical figure that was overlooked. Joan has a unique sound but you can see how she probably influenced later folk/r&b musicians. Not my jam, but I'll give it a 3 for musical variety, technical ability. Some nice mix of instruments and variety of moods, genres. but prob not going to listen again.
Folk, blues, country, screaming. I could listen to this again.
this was fine. might listen again.
