Great album! Good vibes and the last song is such an ear worm for me.
Classic Janis Joplin. Mixing rock and blues, this album delivered some high highs, some jokes, and even threw in a 50's "Grease"-like tune in the last song. Could have used clearer vocals, but the raspy Joplin sound has become a classic. Better than expected overall!
I mean, a true classic. Listened several times.
Did not finish, didn’t really get into it. Wild sounds.
First 2 or 3 songs were 1 star for me but I actually kind of liked how weird and mystical the later songs were? Lots of interesting harmonies, and I'm a sucker for good vocals. Her voice is super weird but not as grating as I expected it to be.
Classic Joni. For a specific mood.
Funky, disco-y at times with a solid hip-hop flair. Not my favorite album we've heard yet but pretty good.
Good fun! Not my favorite but it's impressive how many hits were in this one album.
Pretty big fan! Added to my library. Listened several times.
Ha! Drum’n’Bass is such a unique genre. Pretty good for focused work on a computer and reminds me a little of some video game music. Not my favorite but listenable.
Interesting! Pretty entertaining storytelling, and interesting music to go along with it. Listened while running.
At a prison! Neat. It seems like a very important album for Johnny Cash and for the prisoners but it wasn't much to me. I didn't connect with the songs and the vocals left a lot to be desired in my opinion. 2 starts since Johnny Cash is classic, but not much of a Cash fan myself.
Classic! Can’t remember the last time I listened all the way through but I’m a fan.
A lot of fun, listened a couple times. First listen was driving back from Thanksgiving and it was great driving music.
Halfway decent. Not a huge Beatles guy! But Dear Prudence has been stuck in my head since I heard it yesterday so it's at least that good. For me, it's a vocals thing -- the voices are not really for me, and I'm awful at listening to lyrics. But the rest is great.
80’s / 90’s hip-hop that is engaging and listenable. I can’t follow the lyrics but it’s probably not really for me.
Do I like Kanye? I guess? “Power” is the best by far but the rest is pretty interesting.
Of a particular vibe. Good for relaxing after a party!
Very emotional and beautiful. Reminds me of Love Actually, when Alan Rickman's character gives "Both Sides Now" to Emma Thompson's character and she realizes his infidelity. Very distinct voice and vibe.
A Natural Woman is one of my favorite songs! Lots of hits in this one.
Playful classic rock vibes.
Vocals kinda killed it for me and electric guitar solos don’t do a lot for me.
Not my typical music but was entertaining. Some country vibes which was surprising but made for a more interesting listen.
“Disco 2000” was a lot of fun!
Not a Cash fan, but can respect the unique venue where this was performed and what it said socially.
Could be good for a hard run but probably wouldn’t seek it out. Pretty hardcore emo(?) which didn’t speak to me
One of the greatest albums of all time. I know almost every word.
Awful singing and poorly executed cultural appropriation of South Asian music. Turned it off several times.
Didn’t care much for the vocals, but the first song is a lot of fun. Guitar solos were fun!
For a time and place, it’s good stuff! Felt very same-same? For general listening, not for me.
I swear I heard some James Bond riffs. Still couldn’t save the record for me…
Proto-Dolly? Very classic country vibes. Not really for me but listenable.
Fun covers of classic Christmas tunes.
Not a Beatles guy but this album was fun. “Norwegian Wood” has all the more meaning after reading Murakami’s novel of the same name. I enjoyed this one.
Couldn't get over the awful singing, but I understand this is quite the series of lyrics and inspired many other artists. The guitar is quite nice, and I liked the stripped-down nature of the music, just vocalist and guitar. That makes it feel a little more intimate.
The Beatles but not The Beatles? Pretty decent.
Big choir in “Church” really sent this one above for me! Would definitely listen again! “Go Back Home” has a Marvin Gaye-like guitar riff that I dig.
Really cool that this is a soundtrack. Strong seventies funk vibes. Had some Marvin Gaye sounds that I enjoyed. Solid.
Son of a Preacher Man! Always thought it was Aretha Franklin's song. Great combination of soulful and wistful.
Vocals were wackadoodle but the instrumentals were fun and unique! The dog barking was hilarious. Not something I'd listen to again but neat experience.
Beatles-esque music doesn't do much for me personally. Harsh microphones make the vocals feel "loud" as though they're peaking.
Strong electric guitar, high energy. Vocals were weak.
"sabotage" is the hit off this album. Not sure if it redeems the rest of the screaming... Good for a workout I guess?
Ethereal. Some were better than others, not something I found myself gravitating towards.
Kendrick is a pretty listenable artist. Great instrumentals under the rapping. Beats are nice.
The top songs off the album are pretty great, like "Today." "Disarm" has this driving strumming that gives it a sense of desperation and longing. The vocalist's semi-moaning style doesn't do it for me but the instrumentals are pretty epic.
Loud rock, felt like an incoherent wall of noise at times. Jam band vibes?
"Keep the Car Running" is a bop. The organ in "Intervention" was unexpectedly delightful.
The Girl From Impanema! Very enjoyable Bossa Nova with Sinatra flair.
Great for a Friday evening!
Strong rock album, I enjoyed listening through the entire album.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to! Great driving beats; "Psych Pop" is a great description of this album.
Very poor vocals IMO (mostly talking/yelling?) but the instrumentals were pretty good.
Rhythms were fun but it was way too repetitive. I wanted to like it but the number of times it just said "f***" over and over without any real musicality didn't do much for me.
The album "Black Monk Time" doesn't exist on Spotify, YTM, or Apple Music, so I have no idea if what I'm listening to is correct. I picked the "The Early Years" album and tried to listen to the tracks as stated on the Wikipedia page for the album. Wasn't that impressed by any of the tracks I heard.
Pretty decent hard rock, with a bit of a blend of genres. Neat that this inspired our friends in Rage Against The Machine and Sublime.
Very strange, at one point he talks about murder? I listened to the whole thing and some of the beats were good, but it was a very strange experience.
