1001 Albums Summary

Some good moments, but it mostly sounds like multiple iterations of the same idea. (The title track ten or so times).

I didn’t get to the end of this one. It’s just too shouty for me.

The Boss is an artist I’ve always considered overrated. This was fine but not an album I’m likely to revisit.

I’m glad I’ve finally given this a proper listen. I dismissed it at the time because of the awful Pink Floyd cover but the rest of the album is actually excellent. Return to Oz sounds more Floyd than the Floyd cover.

I like guitar based music in general but I couldn’t relate to this. Not terrible; just not for me.

It’s great fun, and I’m conscious that it would’ve sounded revolutionary on release in the late 50’s. To my ear it all sounds quite samey (Rock n roll is literally a one chord progression genre), but there’s no denying its quality.

I’d never listened to this all the way through before. Bjork’s voice is, let’s say, an acquired taste, and isn’t really for me, but I love how varied the songs are stylistically.

I can sum this up in three words. “Of its time.” It was fine, but I don’t need to hear it again.

I really enjoyed this one! I’d previously heard the hits from it but never thought to seek out the album. It’s go so much groove and the musicianship is excellent!

I was expecting to love this, as it’s an album I’d not heard by a band I like, but it kind of passed me by. Pleasant but forgettable.

This turned out to be nothing like what I expected from the Sex Pistols’ former manager. Great fun and all over the map stylistically.

Another album I expected to dislike but found really interesting. I’d never previously given Zappa any of my time. I’m not sure I’ll rush to revisit it but I enjoyed it.

Superb record! Love her voice! Loved the album when it was first released, and still love it now.

The only thing I’m really marking this down for is that the final track is nowhere near interesting enough to be that long.

Musically it’s fun but I found the singer’s voice almost unlistenable.

Good grief, what a splendid album! Praying For Time is a masterpiece, and George’s version of They Won’t Go When I Go might be better than the original.

Some absolute classics in here. A bit samey in places but the quality of his voice is undeniable.

I absolutely loved this one. Really personal but relatable songs.

I can see why others love Amy’s music. It’s great for what it is but passes me by somewhat.

This album was ubiquitous during my teens. It didn’t do much for me, though it’s fine, and this listen didn’t change my mind.

Masterpiece!
