Part of indie scene of early 2000s,
Particular vocals of Thorpe, falsetto style. Occasionally eminds of Sparks in theatricality. Musically find this style dull but it has it's moments.
Lirically nothing special.
Highlight: underbelly.
Not my cup of tea. It lacks an edge.
American mythology.
Dylan could have repeated this formula for the rest of his career but he did what he did.
It's the musical image of an era.
Don't think twice is on the top five of my favorite Dylan songs.
Personal favorite record.
They rock with acoustic instruments.
Expanded what punk can be.
Not a fan of Springsteen, the only album I have on repeat is Nebraska.
The sax on this album is amazing.
Can't get used to the singing style of Springsteen.
Respect the artist and this is an amazing project, but not my style.
Album from which I discovered Zepp in my adolescense. Feels like a blueprint of everything that will come later.
The bass from dazed and confused will forever live.
Luscious album.
Loaded with bangers. Haven't heard it an album.
Depeche from the 90s.
One of my most important albums of my 20s. Representations of feelings of angst, cynicism, depression, love from my 20s are in this album. Lyrically and musically magnificent.
Beats are insane in this album.
Lyrically is all you expect from from PE.
Would de definitely be more praised and popular if not because of the past albums.
Fun album.
Feels like been a teenager in the 80s Britain.
This sound would be the landmark for the pop punk of the 90s. Great discovery.
Fav. track: My perfect cousin.
One of my favorite albums of the 90s in my teens.
The perfect fuck you from Courtney to all the haters.
One of the holiest albums ever. Made of Cash a legend. Being country the album is so punk and hardcore. One of my favorite albums to sing along.
Heard it twice and just can't get into Weather Report. Feels like generic, bland, rated E Jazz. Appreciate the artistry but not my style.
Highlight: the bass in track 3.
What a pleasent surprise! Have a new favorite country album. All the covers are amazing.
For some reason I have always gravitated more for Purple Rain and Dirty Mind but this album is loaded with bangers.
Slow Love is a treat and the Dorothy Parker song is one of my favorites ever.
This sounded everywhere in my 17s, respect the album as the cultural moment it was, but hopefully won't have to hear it again.
Always find curious how the greats cab create this unique sound, classic album, only thing is that these songs have been heard everywhere so it feels like listening elevator music.
Great album but U2 has never really been my thing. Either way one of the strongest albums.
Great surprise,, could change to a five after several listens.
Feeling like in a film while listening to Walk on by.
Enjoyed the album but didn't did much. Huge respect for Nile Rodgers and after more listens could get to appreciate it more.
Never really got into this band, but couple of songs here are part of my 20s and my wife loves this band.
The album has this energy I love, should put it more.
For some reason I could never get into the Roots as with De la or ATCQ. Maybe the rapping style or it's too pop for my taste. Either way it's a fine listen.
Never heard anything from Stills as solo so got into album with interest. It was ok, some good moments, but will probably never listen again.
Wasn't expecting much but what a great surprise this album was. Amazing voice and kudos to the production.
Baker and Allen together, what a treat.
Always for Fela and his hypnotic sound.
It was an enjoyable first time experience. There were some nice sounds and enjoyed the bass and beats in several songs. Either way there are other records I would put before this one like productions from Orbital or Future Sound of London or my preferred producers which are more experimenal like Aphex, BoC, The Orb or Autechre. Worth the time either way.
It's a fine album but it didn't made much for me. The lyrics were mostly not special. Regarding Amy's voice it's ok but I would stick to her inspirations which are superior. Musically it had nice moments.
Fine surprise. I'm the kind who only ever heard Every breath you take. It surprised me how sonically adventurous this album is. As expected the production and sound is amazing and Sting's vocal range here, just amazing, going to listen to it again soon.
Fine album, some great sing along songs and sticky melodies.
Really enjoyed early Beatles era in my early life, thought it was fun. It hasn't really aged well. It's ok but give me Abbey Road any day.
Around ten years ago this album blew my mind. After doing my daily check in Pitchfork, this alien looking, mesmerizing girl (yes I like them weird) came from nowhere and made this uniquely sounding album. Now I see how the production was made from some artists who would shine in the near future like ARCA or Sampha. Her voice, her stage productions, all amazing.
I'll put a five just to compensate all the hate in the reviews, but I'll say it's more of a four given it lacks a bit cohesion.
For the haters I'll quote something Bob Dylan published yesterday in his IG.
"I came to believe that societies decay not because they lack talent, but because they elevate the wrong kind.
They reward caution over courage, repetition over creation, politeness over force of will. Institutions, I concluded, do not exist to cultivate greatness; they exist to domesticate it."
Mythical album. The place from where the 90s angst, cynisim and song structure would come from, later amplified beyond it's wildest dreams from the megaphone that was Nevermind.
Doolittle and following albums may have better production, but the raw energy and crazy ideas make this one special.
I like when The Doors are more proto punk and less hippies. This album has some moments I loved but in occasions there were does cringe Doors moments. Will probably never listen again.
First listen Iost attention of the album after a couple of songs. My impression was that probably it was dull. Did a careful relisten and realized that like some great Ambient albums the music can drift to the background and still give you feelings.
Sometimes John reminded me of some kind of Tom Waits, some times you feel the hippie force, sometimes you feel the African roots, it's an album for multiple listens.
And the quality of the musicianship is amazing, tight reefs like the best blues from the time.
Amazing discovery.
Never was a Dead head and this album didn't turn me into one. Either way the album was a nice surprise. Heard it while watching the night sky doing line to a Imperial Triumphant concert and it moved me to a zen state. Going to hear it again and probably going to check more GD live albums.
The lyrics of Dark Star are amazing.
How can you make an objective reasoning of an album I love from 20 years ago and was almost mythic.
The flow, the drum beats, the samples, the feeling of infant innocence through LSD.
Mandatory listening for whoever wants to get deeper in electronic music.
My taste for Salsa has been growing as I get older. Being a latin kid who didn't dance Salsa you get a contempt for it and not fitting in the culture. But years later you're a jazz head, who discovers fusion jazz and latin jazz, finally going full circle discovering Fania and all the same songs you hated as a kid, which you realize sound amazing.
This album is Salsa perfection and a pillar in Latin culture. Long live Fania.
Couldn't care less. Felt generic 80s music. It was ok but going to forget it pretty soon.
What always I appreciate of listening to an Antony record is how beautiful and how sad it is. Hearing to any of his records can't be casual listening, it's always an experience that asks for attention. Amazing record.
Five seconds into the record and already a fan. What a nice surprise. Going to be my early morning house tasks record.
Amazing vibes, amazing skill.
First of all, why this album on the list? There are alot other Bowie albums and definitely other artists album which could take this place.
Either way it's Bowie, the most trascendental artist in my life. The album has some great moments, and the production is excellent. I personally find this periods Bowie voice soothing and was glad to give it another listen after several years.
This record was all over the place, In occasions had to check if it was still the same album. It had some bangers, other ones were nothing special. Felt like moving through a multiverse with constant changes of environments and ambientations. Worth the time.
Enjoyed the listen. Everything good you expect from Morrison. His voice, lyrics, angst. Not comparable to the best Smiths records but either way a fine listen.
Loved this album as a teenager after a friend lend me the cd. Listening again after a long time it was a nice surprise. Such a unique sound, and still impresses me how that flute can rock so hard. Absolute classic.
Enjoyed this one more than I could imagine. Heard Johnston, heard Neutral Milk, heard the bands like Everclear that my best friend from highschool used to put after school. Never really realized they made that cover of Mrs. Robinson which I loved as a kid.
Nothing trascendental but it was a fine listen.
