Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

Jon Spencer is the man. Saw him twice in London and he blew the roof off. A bit mad start to this album but it is a peach and it’s probably the best. I love it, my dad loves it.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Dec 29 2025

A classic, always a joy and still sounds funky and raw today

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Dec 30 2025

This is one of my all time favourites - a perfect record. I’ve listened to it 1001 times.

Dec 31 2025

I prefer this era of Queen, sounds raw and the guitar rips. Some of the vaudeville and ballad stuff is a bit dated, doesn’t have the emotional heft of later big hits. Overall a great fun listen.

Play by Moby
Jan 01 2026

This has loads of hits on it that I know well. I didn’t expect to enjoy it much but it was actually a good listen. There’s a few hits that are still great and some Of the more dancey album tracks were cool. Overall though it’s not massively my thing, more that it was nostalgic because this album was so huge when I was growing up. Weirdly I really like the album cover, the album name is terrible though.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jan 02 2026

This is a fun happy record. I hadn’t listened to the whole album before but knew the hits, and the whole thing is great. Sometimes I don’t go for this sort of music because it isn’t very emotive but had it on when cleaning the house and it is very positive and cool. A great record.

Jan 03 2026

I have this on vinyl and I do really like it, but you need to be in the mood - some of the old English twee songs are a bit corny these days. But even on those there’s moments of loveliness or emotion. Big Sky, Johnny Thunder and title track all peaches. Overall I do really like this album and the Kinks in general.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jan 04 2026

I didn’t love this even though it’s a big JJ album and has piece of my heart on it. The jam stuff is kinda annoying , but there is a lot of soul to it.

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
Jan 05 2026

I don’t really get what all the fuss is about with this sort of band. There’s some nice stuff on here and it was a ok Sunday listen, but it’s a bit boring and the experimental aspect isn’t intriguing enough. Couple of good individual songs.

Doolittle by Pixies
Jan 06 2026

I love this album - a classic.

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Jan 07 2026

This is fine. I’m not sure I needed to listen to this before I died… but it’s clearly a huge record and she’s very popular. Her voice is great but the album is produced within an inch of its life and all sounds a bit bland. Musically not that interesting but a few nice songs on there. I’m reluctant to edge-lord it with a 1 star, so give it a 2 but it’s not far off.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Jan 08 2026

Her voice is kinda annoying considering how popular she is, but this was a good album full of heart.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jan 09 2026

Her voice is kinda annoying considering how popular she is, but this was a good album full of heart.

Shadowland by k.d. lang
Jan 14 2026

The first few albums on this I really enjoyed but it’s a bit dry after that. 80s produced covers of country songs won’t rate high for me, but her voice is very good. It kinda sounds like the music that plays in a film when the protagonist finally loses their mind and is merrily walking around in a lobotomised state.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Jan 15 2026

Jon Spencer is the man. Saw him twice in London and he blew the roof off. A bit mad start to this album but it is a peach and it’s probably the best. I love it, my dad loves it.

Jan 16 2026

I remember getting this as a teenager and my parents absolutely hated it, for good reason. I do cringe a bit at some of the bars and aspects haven’t aged well, but it’s undeniably a classic, sophisticated, has genuine depth and complexity to it… in addition to a cartman impression.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Jan 17 2026

Another classic album that I love- listening to it as part off this did make me wonder whether some of the violin is totally necessary… but I can’t deny how good this album is.

Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
Jan 19 2026

I love return of the grievous angel, but after I used to sort of drift off with this. I have to say though that properly listening to it - it is so great - heartbreaking and classic.

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Jan 22 2026

Really atmospheric and moody, I like it. Hadn’t listened to her before but I remember everyone going mad when plunge came out. Only thing I’d say is that I doubt I’ll remember it much, not much that stands out as a repeat listen.

Liege And Lief by Fairport Convention
Jan 23 2026

Quite annoying - I don’t mind folk but found this a little hard work.’

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Feb 12 2026

I hated the other Fairport Convention album, but this is much more enjoyable

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Feb 13 2026

This is just a big standard churned out Costello record - why is it in the 1001 list, surely put in This Year’s Model and My Aim is True and be done with it. Does the list need this album? But it has 2 bangers on it so 2/5
