Not sure how to describe my feeling for this album. These songs have some fantastic potential, but something about them sounds like they're still demos. Idk.
Some songs also feel like it's good, then it's bad, then it's good, then it's bad, song done.
And lastly, at points, Jack White's voice is just grating. Especially in 'there's no room for you here' and 'I just don't know what to do with myself'.
Otherwise, decent stuff (except for 'its true that we love another', wtf was that?)

The album cover gives 'I'm a nude photographer, but this is the first time I've seen a woman naked (my clients have only been men)
I listened to this last year, hated it. Listening to it again.... It's not AS bad as I remember it. Nonetheless, I just can't vibe with this album honestly, no matter how hard I try. At a certain point I feel like I'm forcing myself to listen to it.
His voice is horrid. The music sounds like it comes from a cheesy 80s/90s high school movie about losing your virginity to Chad and Brad. When you listen to the actual lyrics they're really dumb: "til a man comes along and he says 'have you been a good boy, never played with your toy, though you never enjoy, such a pleasure to employ" - just sounds creepy
"Every time I phone you I just wanna put you down" THEN WHY CALL IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I don't know man. At least on a second listen I managed to get through the songs.

Overall Sade is beautiful, her voice complements the jazzy instrumentals so so so well. Everything about the album feels so smooth and ethereal. I just can't comprehend the level of talent here, and it sounds like it's done so effortlessly.
But, as a collective of songs, some of them just kind of let me down, it somewhat ruins the album as a whole. Particularly 'cherry pie,' 'Sally', and 'why can't we live together'
Majority of these songs will be added to my liked songs, but the album won't be on repeat.
1. Smooth operator β

Me before listening: "Why is this album on this list?"
Me after listening: "ok I low-key get it"
It starts of with an abundance charm, the tunes are turning, but it kind of fizzles as it goes on. But it was a really fun listening experience, makes me want to watch the movie.

I really don't know how to describe my feeling without sounding generic. The lyrics are so incredibly raw and dense with storytelling, where the songs are written from the perspective of Springsteen's characters, it almost feels like you're vicariously living all of these different lives from post-vietnam war America. But when they're autobiographical songs, it's so completely emotive. I like that the instrumentals are stripped down for the sake of the lyrics and storytelling.
Really liked the identical lyrics in both 'State Trooper' and 'Open All Night' which both have completely different meanings. It's so cool.
I really really REALLY enjoyed this. A couple of songs that weren't it for me, but thats about it.
1. Nebraska β
2. Atlantic City π
3. Mansion on the hill π
4. Johnny 99 β
5. Highway patrolman β
6. State trooper π
7. Used cars β
8. Open all night π
9. My father's house β
10. Reason to believe π
Is it just me or were these lyrics incredibly creepy? It's giving that incredibly horny middle aged man who just goes for anything with a pulse. It's too much.
I only really liked 'theme from Casanova' because Neil Hannon wasn't singing about school girls and not ever wanting to be deprived of Wonderbras and thunder thighs. And 'the dogs and horses' because he says goodbye - and with that I never have to listen to this again.
I did not enjoy this. No thanks.
He's a pioneer and a generational legend, but I couldn't fully get behind it. I see where others would like it, I just can't do the screeching (for instance, in 'the beautiful ones')
5/9 tracks are genuinely amazing.
Trip hop usually isn't my thing, but I actually fuck heavily w this. Something so calm and serene about it.
1. McLaren is a horrible person
2. Idk what I'm listening to here.
3. What did McLaren actually do here in terms of production? All vocal/speaking sections are definitely not him, and none of the sounds were created by him because it's mainly sampled/plagiarised.
The second half is better, but I will not accredit that to McLaren
Idk I don't have much on this. Nothing really hit for me. I can see how it's actually good because the vocals are insane, but it just wasn't for me.
Every review I've seen says that this album is a perfect two hour experience. But I don't feel it, some songs feel like filler.
Teenage me would've loved this. But now nothing is hitting me.
Great layering and nice rock, just didn't hit personally.
It was aight. Very funky. Felt like the Persona 5 soundtrack at parts.
On a second listen, I appreciated this a lot more.
Yet another album that's loved and celebrated, and I hated it
Started off strong with the first two songs, then dipped, then the last Voodoo Dolly got my attention again..overall, it was good.
I mean it started good but got relatively one note. Just a bit bored by the end. But I gotta listen to more XX songs cause there were some bangers
All I can say is that is was chill and well composed
I've heard endless praise for Graceland, and when I get to it I will probably agree. But as my first Paul Simon listen, I am not very into it.
P.s. did you know cars are cars all over the world? Fuck me I would've never known.
It's more like a 3.5.
I don't even know what to say. There is a reason Tina Turner is considered a legend and icon.
Admittedly there's a couple skips that I personally didn't like as much, but it doesn't erase the fact that this is a fantastic album.
I hate that I enjoyed this. Probably the best debut album of any artist, it's unfortunate that the artist is a prick.
Great songs, albeit a bit too drawn out
> album is called Green
> cover isn't even green
Eh, not for me. Orange Crush and I Remember California were highlights but that's about it
This album feels like a warm comforting hug.
This album feels like a nice hot chocolate in winter.
This album feels like the spring flowers blooming.
This album feels like a lovely summer picnic with loved ones.
This album feels like the most comforting comfortable-ness that ever comfortable-d
