1001 Albums Summary

I've never really gotten into London Calling. After listening again. I'm still not that into it.

One of the first albums on vinyl I ever owned. This is cheap beer music. Sometimes it just hits the spot.

Kelsey was way ahead of me on this one. This album has so many elements (especially the accordion and elastic bass on the first song) that I would typically not enjoy, but somehow, together here, it's nearly flawless. Also, listening to Paul Simon explain how the song Graceland came together really affected how I view the album as a whole.

I had no clue I'd know so many of those songs.

I love the song Pink Moon. The album isn't my favorite by him (give me Five Leaves Left or Bryter Layter).

I love some of the moments on this. The first on Into the Light is awesome. Monitor is great and feels like a precursor to Nine Inch Nails' guitar sounds. I can also hear a real influence on Yeah Yeah Yeahs, too. It feels like this would have been wild to hear in 1981.

For as sprawling and complex as some of these sounds are, they get stuck in my head like crazy.

Um...okay

Incredibly locked in band

I had no knowledge of this guy or this album. It was hit and miss, but more hit than miss.

Mr. Spaceman has to be the inspiration for Dear Mr. Kennedy, right? Some of those electric solos...yikes. Van Dyke Parks on keyboards! (He did all the orchestral arrangements on Ys)

I was surprised at how much I liked the first part half, but it really lost me in the second half of the album

Some amazing grooves

I liked this album in high school. That has changed.

I mean, come on.

I've heard this before and been into it, but this time it struck me as pretty milquetoast.

The Beatles in "there's no bad ideas" mode

I can't wait to hear it once it's finished.

One of the greatest albums ever

Never been a big fan of the Doors.

A lot of sounds I like. Vocally, not a big fan.

Kind of all starts to sound the same. Also, not cool that Jailbait came in while I was in a high school parking lot.

Pretty fun concert.

Great at anytime. Legendary today.

I've never really understood the Hot Chip love. Vanilla LCD Soundsystem.

Did this get picked on the strength of Paint It Black? Paint It Black is great. Stupid Girl is terrible. The rest is fine.

It's fine. Definitely didn't need two volumes.

That funky breakdown in Sweet Talking Woman was so good and cruelly short.

Still incredible

Oh wow what will I rate this one

I can't feel empathy for a sad Tottenham fan.

Oh, so, Ringo WAS the best drummer in the Beatles. The more I hear their solo stuff, the clearer it is that the only member of the Beatles who didn't NEED the rest of the Beatles was George.

So not my thing

Adull.

Wow. I've only heard two types of Beach Boys music, Barbara-Ann-mode and Pet-Sounds-mode. This is entirely different. Kind of depressing, given Wilson's mental state, but still has some incredible songs on it. Innovative and original.

Just because you can technically sing falsetto doesn't mean you have a falsetto worth singing. Not bad, I just can't imagine being in the mood to listen to this

Imagine dropping an all-time great album, then just stopping.

More like 3.5 for me

Much stronger second half

I kind of can't believe I haven't listened to this whole album. In the middle, I felt a little underwhelmed, but as it goes on and gives in to instrumentals and everything else it's doing, I ended up really liking it.

Great energy. 90% of it sounds the same to me. 3.5

I like elements of it, but overall, not my thing. More like 2.5

I started listening to this album a couple years ago when I read that Nels Cline was influenced by them. Listen to the track "Marquee Moon" and tell me Wilco wasn't doing their own version of it on "Spiders [Kidsmoke]."
