First time really listening Queen besides the classics. There’s so much gems outside of them. Need to dig deeper their discography. On Father to Son, Brian May sounds like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

The first half of that album is flawless, but the second half, except Dyers Eve, kept me for giving this album a 5 stars.
To me, And Justice for All, along with Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning, is the golden run of Metallica in terms of trash metal. Love kill ‘em all as well, but those three are something else.

American Idiot is a good album. Problem is, I’m from that generation when it came out, and it was all over the place. Even today, Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams are still heavily played.
There’s a couple of songs that reminds me of the old Green Day, like She’s a Rebel and Letterbomb. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a solid album, but the second half isn’t as good as the first.

Besides Kashmir, this is really the first time listening to Physical Graffiti. As a two-discs album, it’s a pretty long one, clocking at 82 minutes, and at the end of it, I don’t know what to think about it.
It’s clearly not as their I-IV run, which is I think is the best run by Zep. Many people have high praise for this album, but for me, it doesn’t strike as hard as the first four. They are in another direction, trying new sounds, arrangements. It has hard rock, prog rock and folk elements and it’s the first album with their new record company, Swan Song, after their run with Atlantic.
It was a different type of listening experience for me. I’ve listened to it twice in a row, because it was a bit of a surprise at first, I didn’t know what to think. Kashmir is definitely the staple song, no question here, but there’s other gems, like Ten Years Gone and the Wanton Song, the closest to the early-Zep on this album. I can’t put 5 stars like many of the critics out there (and I’m not pretending to be one either), but it’s still a strong release for the British gang.
3,5/5, but I put 3 instead of 4 because I have more songs below the 3,5 threshold than above. It doesn’t grow on me. Maybe after a couple more spins, it can go up to a 4.

I’m very used to CCR, it’s one of my dad’s favorite band. I was introduced very young to Cosmo’s Factory, so I’m familiar with some of the songs, like Bad Moon Rising and Lodi.
I love that southern rock vibe with CCR, and on Green River, it’s very up front. But even though there’s some solid songs in there, I think it’s not consistent.
Low 4/5. Good album, but there’s some fillers in my opinion.

The fun part with that list is there many albums that I know nothing about, like Don’t Stand Me Down by the Dexys Midnight Runners.
My listen was a bit conflicted. I understand the buzz around, the fact that it was overlooked, and then rediscovered, but for me, it didn’t stick with me. I had difficulty with Kevin Rowland’s voice on the album. I love him more in short songs like Come on Eileen (which I didn’t know it was them), because in this album, only 2 songs were shorter, with That’s What She’s Like leading the way with a whooping 12:23.
I don’t know, it was listenable, but it’s probably the only time I will listen to it.

The Charlatans is another one of those bands I knew songs without knowing that it was them. When the first chords of With No Shoes came in, I told myself : « Hey, I know this one! »
The first third of this album is very good, but the more I listen to it, the more I had the impression that it sounds too much like Oasis. The Brit pop in that era turned around very much around the Gallagher’s band, and I thought that the Charlatans tried to ride that wave with Tellin’ Stories.
Did they were able to do it? I think so, but the more you are of the end of the album, the more it loose momentum.

I’m pretty sure that when it came out, it was a hit. But the thing, for me, with English punk rock band in the late 70’s and early 80’s is that it doesn’t aged well for many of them.
The production isn’t great. Songs sound pretty much the same. There’s no wow moment in it. Still, decent listen, but I will stick with London Calling.

I’ve listened to it twice before giving may rating, because I wasn’t sure if I paid enough attention the first time. And I didn’t, in a good way. I changed a couple of ratings up, and told I love a bit more a rock/folk Young than a stripped down Young like on Harvest.

The more I dip my toes into jazz, the more I seems to like it. That album from Dave Brubeck is a classic. Time out is probably one of the most recognizable piece of jazz.
But unlike Kind of Blue, it lack a bit on the second half. First three songs is great but after, it’s good.

I know that Rid of Me was critically acclaimed, and for cause: it’s raw, grungy, aggressive, left-field and doesn’t follow guidelines, which usually, critics loved. But for me? It wasn’t.
Besides the grungy part, which I loved, all the rest was tough. I thought it was noisy, deconstructed and everything was scattered in every direction.

I looooove Earth, Wind, and Fire. Even though my bread and butter is prof metal, disco (thanks to my father) have a special place in my heart. So obviously, there was a lot of EWF in the house.
That’s a Way of the World wasn’t an album I know much. I’ve in a past listened to it one time, but that’s probably it. First half is very good, but the second half is ok at best. Lots of experimentation on that album.
I’ll give a 3/5. Not my first choice for a EWF album.

First hip-hop album on my journey! Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor is my first album into his discography.
It a very long album, clocking at 1h12, and I think it’s one of its flaws. Maybe some song are fillers, or it doesn’t need an intro and an outro, to cut some minutes.
Overall, that’s a good listen. Sometimes his flows looks like Logic (even his beats). I didn’t have a wow moment, but that doesn’t mean the album is bad.

I was very intrigued with the album cover and the year it came out. To my surprise, it wasn’t the kind of music I thought I would discover.
It was a very enjoyable listen. A blend of plenty of styles, with some orchestrations. Acoustic guitar is very present (love it by the way), some bits of folk, psych.
Is it an album I will going back? No. But that not means that it’s bad. Just happy I listened to it. If the album was like Bummer in the Summer, that would be in heavy rotation.

Just like the previous one, this release is good. Love Neil, his voice, his melodies. It’s a really short album and that’s a plus. Since he published so many songs, some of them are forgettable, but some are anthems.

Groundbreaking album and essential for rock and roll, the debut album of Little Richard is a must listen to understand the shift in the 50’s from the crooners to rock’n’roll.
Even though I think it’s a bit repetitive, Tutti Frutti and Long Tail Sally are massive hits. You can see the shift with the vocals, the fast-paced saxophone. It was a nice 30 minutes.
