Timeless
GoldieMissing the "Not" at the beginning of this title. Hard pass.
Missing the "Not" at the beginning of this title. Hard pass.
Parents in 1968 must have been freaked the fuck out when they heard this coming from their child's bedroom. It's crazy how music changed in ten years between 58 and 68. Ten years ago for us it was like, Bon Iver S/T and Arcade Fire The Suburbs.
How revolutionary was Boy George as the leader of the biggest group in the world? Gender non-conformity is still mocked and misunderstood today...to think this was 40 years ago. Wish I had the same appreciation for this album but it's basically 2-3 good songs and a bunch of filler.
My favourite springsteen. It's a consistent mood you can wallow in for an hour.
I think my incredibly high rating for this probably says a lot about how old I am and where I spent my formative years.
Not their best.
As much as I hate “skits” filling up half the album, it still stands up.
Timeless. Brilliant.
Rules
Wasn't familiar with this (so much wu tang catalogue), but loved it.
I'm sure Sinatra was just an insufferable asshole in real life, but you can't argue with the hits.
A fitting companion piece to one of the best-selling t-shirts of all time.
I imagine this is some people's idea of an amazing, legendary album. I get that, but it's not mine.
I didn't know any of her stuff beyond Luka and the doo doo do doo song, so was curious. Disappointed. Feels like middling 80s stuff. Julianna Hatfield without hooks?
Probably good for what it is? It was fine as background
Was okay
Solid.
Ice Cream Summer sounds like Weezer. Rest of album is just okay but heard worse on this list.
I mean, Madness are fine. I'm starting to wonder if me and the person who chose these 1001 albums have the same outlook on life. I have to hear THIS album before I die? What is with the brownface on cover and fake Indian accents in songs?
Now here's a fucking album. So ahead of its time.
Great record. I don't know if i ever got deep enough into this one before to notice Slayer's Angel of Death sampled in one of the songs
Good album for the genre.
I enjoy this album.
Amazing. His 'Blues & Roots' is my favourite jazz record of all time, but this is up there.
Missing the "Not" at the beginning of this title. Hard pass.
Undeniably groundbreaking and brilliant, but that doesn't give the misogyny a pass. Just way too much to be able to give it a high rating.
I think my incredibly high rating for this probably says a lot about how old I am and where I spent my formative years.
I imagine at one point this was the height of cool for some. He speaks/sings! In French! He smokes while talking about women! A shirtless woman on the cover! Interesting as a point of reference but not much else for me, and I love 70s soft rock.
Good. Interesting.
Had never heard this before but loved it! Sent me down a Brazilian music wormhole. Trem De Doido has an amazing guitar part.
Remember discovering this record when I was younger but kinda lost track of it. Pretty good, but gets kinda same-y by the end.
Is that Pedro Pascal in this band? Nah, nevermind he'd never do something so middling that your best song is a cover of a better song.
A near flawless record for me.
Not my favourite Flaming Lips but still so great.
Listened to this album to death when I was younger. It's exactly what I want out of an electronic/dance album. Saw them live once and they actually play with a full band live which is pretty cool.
I feel like I'll never really get Queen because I heard their music a million times at sporting events, in Waynes World etc. before I ever really cared about it, so it's all become this pop cultural cliche. That movie a couple years ago didnt help. I guess this is okay?
Solid
Elliott Smith was murdered. Figure8 is probably my personal third favourite Elliott Smith record, but also probably his best work.
This is the kinda stuff I was hoping to discover on this list. I knew a few of these songs, but the whole record was great.
Solid
Loved this so much.
This album made me want to get high and watch The Wicker Man. That is a compliment.
This was interesting and enjoyable
I always confuse Donovan with Donnie Osmond. Very different!
This was okay. She has an amazing voice but the songs didn't really connect with me.
At least when Soft Cell were terrible they had the decency to be terrible in short 3-minute bursts. Bloated, self-involved, unlistenable hot garbage.
All time classic
Part 1 is absolutely flawless. Maybe a top 5 all time album for me. Would put this above probably any album we've heard so far.
Never really listened to Zappa. Not sure how much I will in the future, but this was more interesting than I thought it would be.
Kinda fun I guess. Didn't really stick with me.
I enjoyed this. Very much of its time.
How revolutionary was Boy George as the leader of the biggest group in the world? Gender non-conformity is still mocked and misunderstood today...to think this was 40 years ago. Wish I had the same appreciation for this album but it's basically 2-3 good songs and a bunch of filler.
This such a solid album front to back.
What if Crowded House wasn't good?
Classic.
Never been the biggest Damned fan...but enjoyed this more than most.
Wasn't as familiar with this as the albums that followed, but liked it a lot. That dude lived hard.
I love the vibe, and the production. But there is undeniably a lot of filler. Would have been a great 10 track 25-minute album.
This was probably a very important album for its time, and electronic music, but didn't connect with me.
I had avoided this album my whole life, assuming it was garbage. The first track was so good and made me think maybe I had been wrong this whole time. But by the time I got to the song where she raps, I realized my suspicions had been correct.
Wow, this is a long record. But I mean that in a good way. The two 15-minute songs were amazing.
Pre-MAGA Kanye was brilliant. With a little less misogyny and religion, this would be a 5.
Never heard this before but really liked! The two "sides" of this record are so different but both were good.
An interesting listen but admittedly not really my thing.
Absolute gem. Among best album openers of all time.
The Clash are my favourite band of all time. And while not my favourite album, this is definitely their most important one. Can i give 6 stars?
Sea Change is not just a record, it's a mood. Which makes it a great album to throw on and listen to in whole.
This was fine 60s psych rock.
Better than I expected but not as good as it could have been.
Solid 70s soft rock
Parents in 1968 must have been freaked the fuck out when they heard this coming from their child's bedroom. It's crazy how music changed in ten years between 58 and 68. Ten years ago for us it was like, Bon Iver S/T and Arcade Fire The Suburbs.
All time classic. This was a formative album of my childhood, when I thought I was the most woke revolutionary kid in my southwestern Ontario farming community.
Throwback to twenty years ago when every coffee shop, hair salon and Club Monaco would just rotate between this album and St. Germain Tourist. Love this album though.
Had never heard this but really liked it. Got weird! I'll throw it on every once in a while.
I'm guessing there are like 6 Bowie albums on this list. Which makes sense. Include Let's Dance you cowards!
My favourite springsteen. It's a consistent mood you can wallow in for an hour.
Classic
The hits are amazing. The rest is okay. Totally thought All Mixed Up was a Red House Painters song until I heard it here.
I only knew the singles, but this whole record is amazing.
I was never super into Anthrax. Not a huge fan of Joey Belladonna's vocals...but this is still a pretty classic album.
Cheese Doggie Dog. We get it, it's a chess metaphor. This is just way too sappy and ham fisted for me.
The best Wilco. A near-perfect record.
Love this record.
Interesting, enjoyable record. Kind of Father John Misty-ish.
i didn't find this super interesting.
Surprised this one was in there, but welcome.
Didn't even need to listen. Permanently downloaded in my brain.
Wow, not sure I loved it but an interesting listen. They're like the Starship Troopers of music.
Classic
Besides the weirdness of a time where progressive dudes thought they could throw around the n-word, this is a back to back classic.
