I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Not a big fan of punk but could hear the influence an album like this has had on a lot of the music that I still listen to.
First couple of tracks I was into. Then it became massively middle of the road dad rock.
First time listening to the full album and really enjoyed it. Unsurprising when you think of all the bands that they’ve clearly influenced. First album that we’ve done on AOTD which I’ll probably go back to and listen to again.
Standard Aerosmith sounding songs that didn’t really differ from one to the next. Inoffensive and pretty forgettable.
Beastie Boys + Dust Brothers = really fun album
Beck’s voice seems to be part of the fabric of a lot of music I’ve enjoyed from the mid 90s through to now, whether that be his own stuff or guest vocals...and yet I’ve never listened to a full album of his. Enjoyed this...good music to listen to over dinner. Reminiscent of Nick Drake, The Beatles (sorry Ash), Pink Floyd and even Zero 7 in places. Solid album which I’ve added to my Spotify.
Thought I’d hate this after the first track but it was fine. Sounds of bands like St Etienne and Belle & Sebastian, both of which I’m not a mega fan of. Not sure I’d revisit this album.

Always got time for a bit of Ray Charles, but this album was a bit too much big band than his usual soul for me. Only so much of that sound I can take before I feel like I’m at some black tie ball full of bankers...in New York. Nice enough, and a good soundtrack to breakfast, but that’s about it.
Pretty seminal album. Not always completely my vibe but enough in there to enjoy now. I’d defo have been all over this if I was in my late teens/early 20s in 1991. Tunes you could listen to in the pub and also a nightclub, even now: Shades of The Velvet Underground in there too.
Not a fan of the Flaming Lips at all. But the first track on this album is the only track I do like of theirs. Not terrible music, they just bug me.
A 5 star album, as simple as that. Takes me back to nights out in Camden and my time at MTV. One of my faves albums of all time.
I gave this a 3 rather than a 2 purely for the nostalgia hit it gave me. One of the first albums I owned on cassette. A couple of classics on there, primarily ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ which I’d forgotten how good a song it actually is. Livin on a Prayer is obviously the ‘big hit’ off the album but all I associate it with now is being utterly smashed in a Wetherspoons in Sunderland...which isn’t as much of a negative as it sounds. Apart from those two tracks and ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ the tracks are pretty forgettable. Bon Jovi have better albums in their discography and they still hold a place in my heart for the good childhood mems.
Thought I’d love this album but for some reason it fell short of expectations. A few really great tracks in there - It’s Tricky, My Adidas, Walk this Way - but ultimately the other tracks just blended into one another. I’ve always felt with Run DMC that if you’ve heard one of their tracks you’ve heard them all. I get their importance in hip hop and you wouldn’t have bands such as The Beastie Boys without them, but I’d just rather listen to the Beastie Boys. Pioneers no doubt, but there’s a reason I’ve never really listened to a full Run DMC album before.
I was never really into The Cure because I held the opinion that they were too goth, depressing and melancholy. But then I realised that a lot of their songs and lyrics were actually really upbeat and positive, so have grown to like them over the years. This album however seems to be on the more goth rock melancholy vibe. Which is fine, and some of the songs on here are a good listen but I would definitely lean towards their more upbeat tunes in future. Robert Smith is a don though.
Such a unique sound which now seems part of the fabric of pop culture with a lot of their tunes being used in adverts and documentaries. But I remember at the time finding their sound so different to anything else out there.
Started well, but then became a bit too much elevator music for me. A couple of decent tracks towards the end but I don’t reckon I’ll ever think about this album again.
A couple of classics on here. Couldn’t really pick any of the other songs out of a lineup, but was a nice listen.
A classic album. Nile Rogers in peak songwriting and producing form. So many disco classics which you’ll still hear at least one of on any given night out and will always bring the vibes no matter the sort of club you’re in. The Dimitri From Paris remixes are also pure fire.
Quite enjoyed this. Reminded me of several other brands such as Eels and Pixies.
One of my favourite albums that I don’t listen to enough. Every time I do put it on I wonder why that is. Maybe it’s a time and place sort of album? I remember it being one I’d listen to on long bus journeys through South America and it was perfect. Whilst walking through rush hour London, not so much. Anyway, such a rich album of sounds and melodies and his voice is so nice to just sit back and enjoy. A five star album if ever there was one.
Not a jazz fan but this is a great album.
Nice enough tunes, but never really been a band I’ve felt like exploring that much in the past. Don’t think this album will change that.

A classic album from our formative years. So many good tunes on here. A handful of forgettable tunes though, but they’re outweighed by the bangers.
I like the vibe of this record. Reminds me of bands like the Eagles and people like George Harrison and Steve Miller. Impressive that he played all the instruments on the album as well as produced it.

I remember first hearing this in Luke’s attic and being blown away by it. I was hooked by the humour and narratives in the lyrics and the production. Wasn’t really a hip hop fan before it, and it opened up a world of new music to me. An absolute classic and an album I still listen to and love today.

Not a mad fan of psychedelic rock, apart from The Doors maybe, but this was a fun listen. The last track took me places.

A definite classic Beatles album, with some ridic songwriting in there. Tried to listen to this and therefore score it objectively (I pretended I was Ash listening to it for the first time) and it did make me think about it differently. It’s an album I know so well, but if I was trying to convince someone of the genius of the Beatles I probably wouldn’t choose this one, no matter how good I think it is. It’s quite poppy still, and doesn’t really push the envelope in the ways that albums like Revolver, Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road do.
All the bangers. Didn’t realise they were all off of one album. A bit annoyed it’s taken me this long to listen to a Bjork album in full, especially this one.
First time giving this Pixies album a listen. Glad I’ve got to know the Pixies better during all of this, well defo revisit this album more than the first one I reckon. Knew a couple of the tracks on there, and really enjoyed the ones that I didn’t already know. Here Comes Your Man is a classic.

Don’t care what you say, a lot of these tracks don’t sound like Queen. I liked a lot of this album, defo feel like this was the start of them finding the sound that would make them superstars. Killer track to finish the record too.
Not as much of an ordeal listening to this, maybe because Matilda and Nat enjoyed it so I fed off of their energy. R&B was never my thing. But her voice is amazing which makes the tunes more listenable to me than a lot of stuff from the same genre.

Enjoyed the majority of this although it crossed over to prog rock a bit too much. I’d never really thought of Supertramp as a prog rock band, but I suppose they are in a way. Some really good tunes on here and it’s a close call between 3 and 4 stars.
This album surprised me. I only really knew Spellbound before listening to it, but really enjoyed the other tracks too.

Never been a fan. Don’t like Perry Farrell’s voice at all. The tunes are ok in terms of big rock music guitars etc, but I won’t be revisiting.
A classic album with a huge influence. Some great tunes on here too..however not my favourite Bowie album. But it was good to put this album on and try to appreciate it for what it is.

As much as the music wasn’t at all offensive, I didn’t really enjoy listening to a band jam for 30mins. It wasn’t terrible music and would normally be a 2 star, but because half the album is a cover, I have to mark it down as I did for The Sonics. The infamous “star rating system” is nothing without consistency.
Defo an album of the time. Feels quite dated, but you can hear the influence it had on other bands in the same era and now.
First half good, second half bad. Gave me good mems of Glasto 2005 so it gets an extra star for that.
Nice Sunday vibes with some cool tunes one there. A bit Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons-esque. Not sure I’d rush back to listen to the whole album again but enjoyed it.
Bennie! Bennie! Bennie! Quite a long album but it doesn’t really matter when it’s got this many classics on it. I know the album quite well and was prepared to give it a 4 but after listening last night it would feel wrong to give it anything less than a 5. A classic and probably Elton’s best.
Keen to listen to this again as I had it on in the background whilst having dinner and it pricked my ears a few times. REM and Pearl Jam vibes, but maybe a bit more acousticy? Could be a 2, could be a 4.

Hard to get into this one. Felt it was too sporadic and I couldn’t really get into the rhythm of it as an album. Some decent stuff on there, but just felt a bit too much of mishmash of sounds and ideas without ever settling on one.
Nothing really grabbed me from this album. It was fine, but I didn’t think there were any tracks that made me sit up and listen. The lost listenable of all the psych rock albums we’ve had so far though.
Absolute classic album. Remember buying this on CD at Uni and it not sounding like the sort of hip hop I was used to. So many good tracks on here.

Goes without saying how incredible his voice is, but this album didn’t do it for me. Feels like he’s made a music to have sex to album and, unfortunately, I wasn’t on that vibe when listening to it yesterday. The title track is a classic, but that was about it. Pretty creepy lyrics at times too.
Not a fan of U2 and listening to this album didn’t change that.
Was a really tough call between a 4 and a 5. On the one hand it’s a seminal album that has influenced a lot of the music that I like nowadays, with some classic d&b tracks in there. On the other, I felt it dragged a bit and some of the tracks went by without really making an impact. I’m also not sure I’d listen to this as a full album all that regularly, which should rule it out as a 5. But it’s difficult to ignore it’s legacy and influence. This is the most torn I’ve been about my scoring of an album yet.

Such a great album that brings backs a lot of mems. There was a good couple of years when these guys were my favourite band and it’s nice to re-listen to it with fresh ears. Still sounds fresh. The sound they created was massively unique. Some classic White Stripe tracks on here. Love it.
Cool disco vibes but I much preferred the Sister Sledge album.
Only really knew the hits off of this album and wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy the rest. But it’s a really fun album. Does what it says on the tin really. And although Sweet Child O’ Mine is now synonymous with nights out in Walkabout bars, it was good to hear it in the context of the album and still has one of the best guitar solos of all time.
Some of this album was okay, but I was looking forward to it finishing.
Nice enough but none of the songs really grabbed me at all. All just a bit backgroundy.

A really fun and enjoyable album. Nice new version of People Everyday on there that I hadn’t heard before. The whole album couldn’t help but put you in a good mood. So nearly a 5 but there are a lot of similar sort of hip hop albums that I rate higher so stopped short of awarding full marks. A solid/high 4 though.
A couple of good tunes on here that I’d listen to again but other than that not much else to write home about.

Classic voice and nice easy listening jazz
I think I only knew one Pavement track before this. Glad I listened to it, some nice sounds in there that reminded me of quite a few other bands that I like. Wouldn’t rush to listen to it again, but at least I now know what their vibe is.
My favourite Blur album for lots of reasons. So many good tunes on here that turned my attention away from Oasis and towards Blur. Beetlebum is probably my favourite Blur song if I were to think about it, and it sets the tone for the whole album. Can’t give it anything other than 5 stars.
This album scores highly purely on innovation and influence but when you add the quality of songs that feature on this album (minus Yellow Submarine) it gets full marks. Lyrically it’s probably their best work - “wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door.” 👌 The Beatles at their songwriting and creative peak, I love this album.
I really don’t like Goldie as a person. Might be an irrational hatred, I dunno. But whenever I see/hear him interviews I think he comes across as a massive prick. So I’ve never really been that fussed about exploring his music. This album was good though, a lot more tuneful in places than I thought it would be. The first track is pretty self indulgent in length, but Inner City Life is a tune so I forgive.
You can’t always get what you want. But with this album you really can. Eh? Eh? Eh?
A classic album with wall to wall great tunes.probably the best opening few bars of any album ever. Still in their rhythm and blues stage which is probably my favourite period of their career. Love this album.
I was never a Stone Roses fan and I’ve never listened to this album in full, although I know all the “big” tunes off of it. Difficult to rate this one because all the hits probably make it a 5 star album, but I rarely think about the Stone Roses or choose to listen to them. But their influence on other bands I rate is huge and the hits on this album are brilliant. Toss up between a 4 and a 5 for me. I’m feeling generous this morning after a West Ham win last night, so fuck it.
There’s only so much big band music I can take. First 2 or 3 tunes were fine but after that it just got tiresome.
Not bad but nothing really that special or standout about it. Didn’t hate it but didn’t really think anything of it. Borderline 3 but today I’m not feeling as generous.
Not a fan of Belle & Sebastian apart from a couple of tunes, and this album hasn’t changed that. It’s fine, but his voice annoys me and they’re not a band I’d ever choose to put on.
Enjoyed this a lot by the end of it. Lots of fun bits in there, especially the Ron Burgandy style jazz flutes.

Shame this was less than half the set as it just feels like a snapshot. But what was in there was fun and it sounds like a good gig. Can’t give it more than 3 stars for the lack of tunes.
This was a decent album but not one I’d really return to all that much. Shades of Arctic Monkeys in there at times.
Expectations for this album started off low and only slightly improved. Another band you’d find on an American Pie soundtrack. Didn’t really vibe off of this at all.
Quite a nice listen. Nothing special but felt a lot more modern than a 1960s album. Quite a bit of Gomez in there. I liked it.

Liked this more than I thought I would with a couple of recognisable of tracks in there which I didn’t actually mind all that much.
So good. Surprisingly so. Was never into them when this album came out, and they’ve sort of passed me by a bit, whilst also enjoying most of what I did know of them. But I was always into bands like J5, Pharcyde and The Roots over Wu Tang. Really enjoyed hopping along to this album. Also way less aggy than I assumed it would be.
Enjoyed today’s album. Never really liked Hole, mainly because of Courtney Love, but when one of their big tunes come on I’m into it. Plus some decent Nirvana sounding album tracks on there too.

Not the best Bowie album I’ve heard. Heroes is obviously a classic track but that’s about it for this album.
Enjoyed this. Quite like a bit of Depeche Mode. A shame none of their big hits were on this but was still a good listen.

Tricky one. On the one hand of it wasn’t Tom Waits I might have turned off earlier, but I listened to the end. It was fun in parts, and I like the way they recreated a jazz lounge style atmosphere in the recording studio...but nothing really grabbed me and I don’t think I’d ever listen again as well as jazz not really being my sort of thing.
Really enjoyed this! Epic orchestral moments along with some good ol’ rock music that felt like a bit of a jam session. Felt really modern too. Maybe lots of people have been influenced by him but it all just felt really familiar. A couple of tracks properly sounded so much like Nick Cave & Kylie’s ‘Wild Rose’ track, I’d be shocked if they weren’t straight up trying to make a Serge Gainsbourg track when they made it. Will defo revisit this album.
I listened to the whole thing in one go wanting to see the light and be converted to the church of the Pet Shop Boys. It was ok. Nothing grabbed me at all. Just felt really 80s synth pop. The song about going shopping. What’s that about? It’s a Sin is a banger though.
All the hits, lots of fun and does what it says on the tin.

I quite enjoyed this. Some nice 80s numbers in there. Sounded quite a lot like bands such as Prefab Sprout and Orange Juice...not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.
Reminds me of Finchley in the late 90s. Can appreciate the musicianship and like most other bands in this genre I like the odd song here and there but ultimately not an album I’d choose to listen to. But this album felt pretty accessible and there were parts of it that were cool.

Wasn’t interested in listening to this but it was actually ok. Pure 80s pop with all their hits made it semi-enjoyable.
This album started with a John Jensen style wonder goal with a classic tune, but then as Arsenal found out, it was all a little too good to be true as it faded into a bit of a nothing and, not unlke the Danish player, ultimately a bit of a let down.
Quite enjoyed this actually. Never really known what Alice in Chains were about but I guess they sit somewhere between Bon Jovi and Gun n Roses. The sort of music a tattooed, Alice band wearing Sergio Ramos would listen to before a big match to get himself pumped up.
