Warehouse: Songs And Stories
Hüsker DüI like some of the individual pieces of this album but as a whole, not an enjoyable listen for me. Vocals especially rubbed me the wrong way. Kind of felt like "what if REM, but worse"

Fucking Elvis Costello.
This feels like you're wrapped in a warm, fuzzy blanket travelling on the grooviest spaceship around. The spaceship is shaped and lit like a lava lamp. What a refreshing and gorgeous album to listen to, especially in 2022 when it feels like we all need some warmth. Liked almost all of this except for the title track, which I've heard 450 million times in my life and is now on my DNL (Do Not Listen) list.
A classic.
Definitely a top played album on my iPod back in the day. Still holds up, a fantastic album
Always wished I liked Metallica more but I just can't get into the heavy side of this heavy metal. Definitely enjoy their 90s stuff more
I like this era Stones. Hadn't listened to this in a while if ever. Nice mix of their sounds
Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Always assumed The Zombies were going to be like the Beach Boys but there wasn't much of that sun-drenched saccharine sound that turns me off. More like the Doors but I enjoyed this more. Probably could have been 2 songs shorter. Favorite track was Brief Candles.

Not a fan. Of its time in the worst ways. Favorite part was the "indulgent" guitar solo to open the album.
Boy does Solomon have a voice. Feels like a good album for a cold fall day next to the fire. A little, uh, old timey for me but a pleasant listen.
Fucking Elvis Costello.
This album is a blast. Forgot how defining it was for me back in high school. Great tracks throughout.
Enjoyed some of these songs but overall it felt a little too abrasive. Would probably enjoy most of the tracks more individually but the whole album felt like a slog
Is this what used to be in the reductive "world music" sections in gift shops and book stores? A really enjoyable listen. Baaba has an enchanting voice.
Absolute gold. Poignant even 30 years later. The way Mr. Cube uses samples to help tell the story is perfect.
Some great songs and some clunkers. Tired of Belinda's voice about half way through the album because a lot of it sounds samey.
A couple songs I really enjoyed but I was mostly pretty bored. Lots of 60s tropey sounds and song structures (?) that just didn't feel exciting to listen to.
What in the almighty Christ
This is a taste-defining album for me - one of the first CDs I owned. Still love it. The anger and rage filtered through grungy 90s pop hooks land perfectly.
Some interesting songs but a lot of these sound pretty flat in 2022. Was hoping to dig Abba but alas they might not be for me.
I should really listen to more post punk
Weird hearing non-hits from Queen. Definitely some good and some meh on here. Were they still finding their sound?
Absolutely fantastic
Hot damn I need to have more Sonic Youth in my life. This was a great listen
Felt like soaring through a dreamy but slightly eerie spacescape. Loved the mix of influences here.
Really dug the instrumentals, did not enjoy the vocals. Sounded like someone complaining at me for 35 minutes. Looks like it's some members of Pavement with a different vocalist, I guess that explains it.
Not as white-dove-flying-through-pristine-forest as I thought it would be, but still not really for me. A bit saccharine and samey. Some individual great songs though.
Hadn't heard of these guys before. Fun listen if not very unique for 1996. I'll definitely be checking out their other stuff
Huh. I actually enjoyed this!
KISS rules
I recognize that this is a huge character flaw but blues just doesn't do it for me.
Loved all the sax.
More post-punk that I like. A bit uneven, some real misses. Favorites were Burst and Motorcade
Really funky, uh, pop? Is this pop? Wikipedia tells me it's "sophisti-pop" which sounds both made up and accurate. Almost 4 stars but a bit not quite.
Basically a more boring version of 00s Arctic Monkeys. Still enjoyed it, but did not have the same oomph of the "real stuff."
Sounds a little flatly produced these days but there are clearly a lot of classics on here. I don't think Madonna has ever really done it for me
The further from the 90s we get, the more I appreciate Nirvana
Something about a bunch of these songs sounds very modern. Really interesting and varied album, some absolute bangers on here (and some that were harder to get through). Will be listening again for sure.
Blech
Not that familiar with Neil Young (Crazy Horse or not) but I've always enjoyed him. This sounds exactly like I'd imagine without many surprises.
Really liked some of this and thought some was boring and really disliked a song or two. Seemed to live in between genres
it rocks
Dusty certainly has a lovely voice. I'm just a Luddite and this vibe sounds Too Old for me to really enjoy
Love the mood of this album. Lana has such a great voice.
This sounded very familiar even though I've never listened to this album before. A bit long but a pleasant journey and was perfect for a long-ass walk with the dog on a sunny spring day
Only recently discovering Pavement. Their stuff is samey but right in my grungy sweet spot
Holy shit I think this is an instant top 10 album for me. I can't believe I've never listened to it before. Love the dark, cloudy mood and consistent sound across the album.
I always want to like The Pretenders but I just don't jive with Chrissie Hynde's voice. Oh well
What an interesting combination of genres. An enjoyable listen that surprised me a couple times
Love this album
Really dug the guitar and drums on a lot of these tracks
This was an unexpected but fun ride. Not sure if I knew much of krautrock but it seems in my wheelhouse. Wish the production was just a little less sterile.
Never knew I liked Black Sabbath. This era at least. This rocked
I think most of this was lost on me. Some enjoyable tracks but I did not feel like I was in on the joke
Yeah, this rocks. A couple mediocre songs in the mix here keep it from a five star
Yeahhhh boyyyyyy
Definitely a top played album on my iPod back in the day. Still holds up, a fantastic album
I really wanted to like this but could not get into it
Whoa. What a fascinating mix of genres and styles. Love feeling the pain and anger. Really enjoyed this.
I do love Oasis but there were some slight duds in here that keep this from being a top album for me
Boy does Tina have a voice
I always think I don't like zip very much but I think what I'm really just tired of the few songs they play on homogeneous Classic Rock Radio. Fantastic album
I like some of the individual pieces of this album but as a whole, not an enjoyable listen for me. Vocals especially rubbed me the wrong way. Kind of felt like "what if REM, but worse"
I enjoyed this - lovely acoustic sounds, clean production, a relaxing listen.
There are some moments in here I enjoyed but just too much honky tonk and classic country in here for me.
Some Neil Young I hadn't heard before but really enjoyed. Quiet, pensive, sparing, and seemed to flip between moderate anger and mild joy.
Usually dislike Elvis but this wasn't too bad. Some nice mix of sounds in here
An interesting trip to mediocre funky town. Some fun synth stuff mixed in here
Really haven't had much exposure to Black Sabbath before but damn they can rock. Love the dark, fuzzy guitar that gives the sense of forward motion
A pleasant and relaxing listen, but I wouldn't be able to pick a single song out of a lineup
What a surprise. A fun listen. Who knew prog-pop was good? (Lots of people, I'm sure)
This is an absolute top album for me. Didn't discover Garbage until the end of the 90s so I hadn't heard this album much.
Not into Elton mostly but other than the radio hit or two on here this was pretty enjoyable
Really enjoyed this, felt very related to Pavement, Dandy Warhols, Oasis, and maybe Blur. But faster paced than most and an interesting mix of grungy sounds with other genres. Will definitely be relistening in the future.
Never even heard of Doves before but I liked their slower, mellower take on a grungy sound. This album felt thematically tied but with plenty of variation between songs to keep it feeling fresh.
Wild and weird. My dad used to play this album to make our dog howl.
Nice harmonies and melodies here and I think I can tell that some of my favorite artists were inspired by them, but I still felt myself a little bored by the end
Had never heard this other than the title track. Absolute gold. I enjoyed every single track on here. What a fun early 90s vibe
Not a Hendrix head but I can appreciate the impact he had on music and I especially enjoy his guitar shreds in here
No thanks
I mean it's right in the title, he's the OG.
Like a warm blanket next to a fire on a rainy day
Didn't enjoy this much. Has aged in the worst way. She has a great voice but I didn't think she really took advantage of that on this album
I want to like this more than I did on first listen. A little harsh sounding at times. Might be I've that grows on me
Whoa this was fun. Do I like house now?
I kept picturing someone like Christian Bale in American Psycho putting this on the stereo after bringing a date home. I dug it, some great sax on here
Not one I would have thought I'd enjoy this much. "Big band" and swing are usually genres I avoid. But this was a great listen.
This must be how Def Leppard sounds to someone who doesn't like Def Leppard. Some sick guitar riffs but the vocals were just too harsh for me and something about the songwriting didn't click with me
Whoa. This was a fun trip. Need to be in the right mood for sure, though. Great background music but I don't think it's very much of an "active" listen.
That's a no from me
Huh. Did NOT know Jane's Addiction sounded like this other than their one or two singles that still play on the radio. I enjoyed this a lot and will be checking out their other albums.
Absolute classic for me. Still holds up and love the piano on here.
Interesting because the influences seem to span multiple decades. But also it's still very ska and I couldn't get into it.
Fun listen. Didn't know of MC5 before. I'm seeing that this is considered a precursor to punk and I can totally see that. Loved the anger and passion (and, of course, the jams) that are so apparent here.
I didn't love this back in high school but I do now. What a killer album
Well this was a fun shakeup on this list. Loved the mostly instrumentals and the pure funkiness
Wanted to like this but it just hurt my brain
Great album. Haven't listened to this one all the way through in a while and forgot how different they sounded here - definitely more Springsteen than their later albums. Some classic tracks too.
Wow, great album that surprised me because I didn't think I enjoyed The Smiths this much. Too bad Morrisey is such an asshole.
Once again I find myself appreciating this sort of psychedelic new wave mostly for the artists that would be inspired by it later. This was too jangly and chaotic for me in many of the tracks. Some great songs on here though.
I could not help but think that this is the type of album that Kevin Murphy on the show F is for Family would churn out with his band to try and capitalize on some sort of medieval music trend. I didn't hate it and really enjoyed a small handful of songs, but this is a bit boring and feels very derivative.
Fantastic, bright, and energetic 80's pop. Cyndi's voice pairs perfectly with these synthy beats, and the production feels lush without being overproduced
Yes's brand of prog rock is just too boring and weird for me to get into. A couple songs on here I enjoyed, the rest I did not.
Surprised by this - thought it was going to be a mediocre Beatles knockoff but the whole album is a fun and psychedelic listen. Holds up pretty well in 2022! I'll be revisiting The Byrds for sure.
One of my favorite Bruce albums. Powerful without feeling too on the nose.
Remember listening to this CD over and over again on my dad's stereo system as a kid. What a great album, with a mix of sounds and types of songs, and interesting stories woven into the proggy soundscapes. Love this.
Whoa. How have I never listened to this before? What a fun spaceflight
Whoa, absolutely love the variety on this album. It's silly, epic, sprawling, and contained depending on which track you're on. I like this side of Queen outside of their anthemmy rock hits.
Loved this. I don't know much of Black Sabbath other than the rock radio hits. The guitar riffs all over this album fucking RULE.
Nope this one ain't for me
Didn't most of this, but I Could Have Lied is great. That "slap bass" really turns me off.
Wasn't always a fan of this era of Bruce, but this time through I mostly enjoyed Nebraska.
Always had the impression that The Pogues rocked a little too hard for me but I enjoyed this. The instrumental tracks were beautiful. Won't be a regular listen for me.
SUPER digging this album. Not a very unique sound, but one I enjoy.
One of the ones on this list that I would never otherwise seek out but really enjoyed. I don't get into the jazz waters much but boy are they pleasant sometimes
These are indeed ambient works
A classic.
I know this must be foundational in many ways but I just usually can't get into the big band sound
Now this is a JAM
Didn't think I was going to dig this but Bobby's got a great voice and I love the mix of synths and other sounds on here. A couple songs are a little samey but overall an enjoyable listen.
Joni has a lovely voice
Never heard of Shack before. I like this genre, and this all felt familiar -- too familiar. A lot of sameyness on here.
Love this album. It feels like a warm blanket. The layers of sounds in each song are lovely.
Definitely liked this better than Country and Western. The arrogance of the title of this album feels earned.
British hip hop, I'm in.
I kinda liked this but it felt pretty generic. I've just finished it and I can barely recall any of the songs
Starts strong but loses steam about halfway through and feels a little bit cheesy disco-y
What an interesting, calming journey. Great focus music.
Genre defining, layered, experimental, blah blah. All these labels feel right for this album, and I especially like the jazz influence here, but it all adds up to way less than the sum of its parts for me. Big part of that is that I don't care for Kendrick's voice or rapping style.
F i v e S t a r s
This album just fucking rocks
There's something magical about the combination of the dreamy vocals and the slightly distorted, echoey instrumentals. I love this album.
I almost always enjoy Neil Young, but other than "old" vs "new," I can't say I can tell much apart between them. Maybe spending more time with Neil would help. This was a pleasant listen.
One I didn't enjoy back in the day but loved this time through
