Not gonna catch me speaking technically about music on here cuz I don’t know that shit and I’m not one of those loser critics on the internet. I’ve only heard the 2 big ones before listening. Album def creates a certain vibe. Makes me feel like I’m on the bayou. I’ve never been to the bayou. Not gonna catch me listening to this if it’s not hot and humid, luckily for ccr, it’s hot and humid.

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Arctic Monkeys
Thought I’d like this album and I did. Preferred the second half which I feel like might be a hot take. Also thought that the lyrics were good and pretty funny. Only gripe with it is there were a couple points in the first half that were just pretty noisy for my taste. I’m sure a lot of people love that sound, just not me. The guys voice can be kinda brash sometimes too. That being said: there’s a lot more good than bad here.

The Genius Of Ray Charles
Ray Charles
There’s no denying Ray Charles has a timeless voice and makes some beautiful music. There’s some great songs on here. A lot of it sounds pretty dated (understandably so) and I can only listen to so much of that before it gets stale. Most of it, while good sounding music, was just un memorable to me. Don’t want to take anything away from Ray Charles though, he has some bangers and a pretty crazy life.

American Pie
Don McLean
Before I went to bed last night, I saw this was the album on the slate for today and had already written it off. I figured it was only on here for the title track and understandably so. A lot can be said about the title track, as it’s one of the most impressive pieces of songwriting ever, so dense with metaphors, it will make your head spin. While probably overplayed and not exactly an everyday listen, it deserves all the praise it gets.
Now that that’s out of the way, let me just say, I love the rest of this album. Without the title track, this album is an incredibly easy listen at only 26 minutes. It provides beautiful melodies and some truly heartfelt moments. And in case “American pie” didn’t have you sold, McClean continues to showcase his masterful songwriting in songs like “Vincent” and “the grave”.
Heard before: American pie
The good: AP, till tomorrow, vincent, the grave, pretty much everything
Okay, I’ll say something bad about it: While it’s not a bad song, why was “everybody loves me, baby” on this album? It just seems out of place. It’s also unfortunate that the albums two weakest tracks (“sister Fatima” and “Babylon” are two of the last 3. I would’ve liked a stronger ending.
Overall, this album seems to have gotten a raw deal, suffering from the success of the title track and forever left in its shadow. The world owes you an apology Mr. McLean; this album deserves better.

Aerosmith
Was riding my bike to work today and had an encounter with an older man. It’s not like i whizzed by him or anything and slowed down to essentially a stop and politely asked to get by. Same thing as I do every day and no one ever has a problem. “You’re have to get off walk the bike on the bridge there’s signs”. I say “alright” and shrug it off start to resume pedaling… “but people like you think you’re special, think you can do whatever you want”. Now I stop, get off my bike and turn around. “ I was going very slow and was nothing but respectful. I don’t understand your issue, how did I inconvenience you in any way?” “You didn’t”, he responds “but people like you think they’re better than everyone” “No, YOU are the one who thinks they’re better than everyone. You took it upon yourself to enforce rules that are not your job to enforce. I did nothing to you and you’ve decided it’s your job to tell me what to do. What the hell is wrong with you?”. I ride off. As I’m riding away I look down to see our argument has gained the attention of fisherman below. “Fuck you, dickhead” echoes from behind as I ride into the wind.
Based on our brief encounter, he seems pretty miserable. Maybe he has a lot going on. I hope things improve for him.
Album was good, I’ve always liked Aerosmith. Ranking something like this is hard because I’ve known all of these songs forever. How would I feel if I had just heard it for the first time?

This was dope listened when I woke up and was absolutely vibing to start the day. For the most part I just had this playing in the background but if you listen these songs have some deep and politically charged lyricism. Makes sense knowing that he’s a poet. Seems to be pretty influential, being sampled by a multitude of rappers. Due to its accessibility issues, I will probably never listen again. However, I will say with certainty that it was worth the listen.

Hüsker Dü
It’s cool to see where alternative/ pop punk hit its start. Gives me big time REM vibes. That’s probably a bit disrespectful since they were peers, but history will always favor some more than others and it seems like REM came out on top of this era. Their sound has more punk than REM though. Some of these songs had me feeling like I was playing Tony hawk pro skater, which is a good thing.
This album is nothing if not consistent. There are really no low points here as far as I’m concerned. On the other side of the coin, none of these songs stood out to me as great. This makes it difficult to rate; I liked the sound but didn’t love any particular track.

The Go-Go's
This album is just some awesome 80s new age pop. At 35 minutes, it’s a quick listen, densely packed with banger after banger. There’s not a single skip on this album for me. I was thinking 4 stars for this album all day long, but then I got to thinking why not a 5? I think it felt basic to give a pop album like this 5 stars, but I don’t care. 5 stars.

The Flaming Lips
This album was great, and I say that without even knowing what they were singing about half the time. The flaming lips were able to create such a cool sound that is truly their own. I’m not even sure how I would describe this album; pop? alternative? Psychadelic? They combine them all to create a unique experience that really draws you at the ruin and doesn’t let it go. This guy isn’t exactly the most talented vocalist, he’s more of a talker really, but something about it is pretty captivating. Another 5? Two days in a row? What a weekend it’s been already.
Heard before: none? Although the beginning beat in what is the light sounds too familiar
😫: race for the prize, spark that bled, disintegrate. Honestly all of these tracks bring something to the table.
Interesting note: The album was remastered in 2017 and it features a different mix of the song “Buggin” than the original album. Kinda odd thing to do don’t you think? Song still bangs tho

Fear Of Music
Talking Heads
This album was kind of all over the place stylistically. You could tell there was some definite experimentation going on here. You have some more traditional rock songs, some funkier ones in the middle, an African influenced track to start the album, an everything in between. Despite this, the talking heads are still able to stamp some of their staple eclectic sound on all of them. This in combination with the singers quirky vocals make for interesting music to say the least.
While others revel in their unique sound I tend to find it off putting at times. In my opinion the melodies suffer on most songs due to the vocal style and doesn’t necessarily leave me itching to relisten.
That being said a lot of the instrumentation here is super cool and I do like a good amount of the songs. The first half is MUCH stronger in my opinion. I’m sure remain in light is on this list so I’m glad it gave us this one first.

Afrika Bambaataa
As one of the first hip hop albums ever and possibly the first with commercial success, it goes without saying this album is extremely influential. Some of these beats were actually really cool. That’s about where the good stops for me.
Everything on this just sounds SO dated. The rapping/singing wasn’t anything write home about. These songs were all so long and overly repetitive, if they were half the length, MAYBE this album could’ve been alright for me. Also a line worth noting in the last song “you know we’re doing it right and we’re doing it correct, when it comes to mc poppin we don’t give a heck” … yeah alright
Heard before: heard the beat on the first song, honestly feel like I’ve heard a lot of this sampled.

Rumours
Fleetwood Mac
Such a classic. Probably one of the most universally liked albums out there. We’re gonna break this thing down track by track.
1. Second hand news - one of the more upbeat tracks and a CERTIFED BANGER. Also a staple in my families line dances (iykyk).
2. Dreams - What more needs to be said about this song? TIMELESS.
3. Never going back - Underrated track. Leslie buckingham shows why he is HIM. Very cool and impressive fingerpicking pattern.
4. Don’t stop - CERTIFIED BANGER once again. One of the best choruses on the album., if not the best. Songs got a nice bounce to it.
5. Go your own way - Kind of cool how this song is written/sung by Leslie Buckingham about his breakup w stevie nicks while they’re both still in the band. And of course it’s another CERTIFIED BANGER.
6. Songbird - Slow things down about but solid songwriting here. Also I was playing this at work and one of my coworkers shared that she cries to this song.
7. The chain - that drum in the back just makes you want to stomp your foot. Harmonies are too good on this. Song builds up to the chorus so well. This chorus is also one of the top on the album. CERTIFIED BANGER. Also the outro is sick
8. You make loving fun - Underrated. Harmonies + instrumental during that chorus is magical. Vocals are just so soothing.
9. I don’t want to know - A little country twang w this one. It’s fun and it’s good
10. Oh daddy- Prob the weakest track to me. But it’s not bad. Let’s be clear in that there are no misses here
11. Gold dust woman- stevie nicks does her hippy vibes thing here again and it works. It always works.
Pretty dope stuff here. Songwriting is split almost evenly between bucking ham, nicks and mcvie.

I’m not the biggest Beatles guy out there, but I do enjoy them and there’s no denying they consistently made good music. There’s a weird mix here of incredible songs and nonsensical weird ones. It’s not even that they’re bad, they're actually kind of fun, but it’s just odd. The highs here are very high and the lows aren’t even that low. Cut this track list down to 10 songs and it’s a 5 but the inconsistently keeps this at a 4 for me.
Heard b4: Come 2geth, something, oh darling, octopus, I want you, her comes sun, bathroom window
Best: Something, golden slumbers, carry the weight, here comes sun
MMM: BOY YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT CARRY THAT WEIGHT A LONG TIME
PS: I listened one more time before bed and this album is 5. This second half grew on me a ton. Yeah, there's some novelties here, but like I said they're still fun and well made. And the odd ones are all pretty short which makes them easily digestible. Also, the way they all flow into one another on the B side is pretty cool.

Yeah this album goes hard. So consistent. 52 minutes and not one of them wasted. Easiest 52 minutes ever. I felt that most of this album really wasn't vocally-driven, which was cool. Most of the vocals were pretty understated, and while complementing the rest of the music very well, it really allowed the instrumentals to shine. This album has everything; some more fun upbeat stuff, some incredible ballads, even a more punkish vibe bank holiday which was a dope twist. Blur made choosing the best tracks a very difficult task here, this album is seriously so consistently good. Also so insanely British. Clover over Dover is maybe the most broths thing I’ve ever heard.
I love how it flows. 4 britpop bangers to start. punk switch-up, right into a cool ballad (Bedhead), then an instrumental, Far Out which almost seemed like an interlude, and flowed extremely well into our second ballad, To The End, 4 more britpop bangers, Jubilee which is another kinda vibe switch and right into the final ballad, This Is a Low. I know This Is a Low isn't actually the last track, but it's such a great emotional final piece to close the album. Lot 105 gotta go bruh😂, how you boutta end the album with that instead.
I’ll be revisiting this for sure. Im not sure if I’d ever just play a single song though. If I’m listening to one I’m probably listening to everything; it’s that type of album.

Solomon Burke
I’m willing to admit this score could be a result of 50s/early 60s fatigue because two days in a row is pretty brutal. Solomon Burke has a real smooth tone, so I’ll give him his props there. But there really wasn’t much that stood out here. Honestly, old music bias aside, I think this just wasn’t that strong an album, even for the genre/time. I’m willing to give this a 2 just because it wasn’t as outright offensive as my 1’s. I didn’t necessarily dislike anything I heard but I can promise you none of this will stick with me. This is one of the first that I’m really questioning its place on this list.
Best: If you need me (this song grew on me and kinda goes hard)

These guys clearly haven’t seen tropic thunder because they just went full retard. They took some pretty ordinary (but often catchy) instrumentals, threw the most heinously idiotic lyrics over top and call it a day. I’m willing to admit the 55 miles in the last 10 days may have made me delirious enough to like this, but nonetheless, I did. So bad it’s good type of thing. This shit is hilarious and nobody can tell me differently.
Something about this album, on this day, gave me a real sense of enjoyment. I was thinking of giving it a 4 just because of how much fun I had listening to it. But I know in my heart it doesn’t deserve that and if I got this another day I might hate it. At the end of the day it’s a novelty listen at best, but it’s what that I find generally entertaining.

Starting to make sense of it now though, I’m pretty sure this album is just like the background soundtrack of life. You don’t remember these songs, but you’ve heard them; they’ve just been existing in the background your whole life. Best 50s album we’ve heard for sure. (Nvm i guess it’s 1960 but still). I like how these early albums always seem to be short. This album had like 2-3 bangers that carried, other than that it was pretty mid but at least it’s more interesting than the other early albums, by a lot. It’s still dated and still doesn’t hit like newer albums do for me and my enjoyment factor will always suffer because of that. I gave buddy hollys album a 3, and this is better than that. Amy Winehouse
Amy winehouse is a top tier vocalist, and while I’m not sure this album showed it off to its full potential, it still showcased it well. These songs were all super smooth, that’s the feel she was going for, no doubt. I wanted a little more excitement though, maybe 2-3 songs to REALLY show off her voice and the power it possesses. I don’t feel like I got that. Seemed like she was trying to match the smooth jazzy vibe of the instrumentals with her vocals. Album was super consistent though. In my bed was kind of the only thing that strayed from the norm and it was cool, sounded like something from a totally different genre. MMM kinda hard cuz I feel like this is an album not carried by its melodies. 3 but a really high 3. Highs just weren’t high enough for me.

Cowboy Junkies
I feel like reviews will be negative or at least mixed here. This album is definitely not everyone’s thing. It’s quiet, it’s slow, I’d understand if someone called it boring. It has country and blues, but also an element of slowcore that makes it different from other country. This album was recorded in 1988, which predates slowcore by a couple years at least, making this a very unique sound for the time, if not just in general. An album like this is all about time and place. I had it playing late last night as I was staring at the sky, thinking. Perfect for that. If I had played it during the day, wanting something more upbeat, my reception would be different.
The soft vocals here are hauntingly beautiful. The mix of covers and originals are kinda cool. The lore surrounding the album is cool. The genre mixing is cool. I’ve been into slowcore recently, so this fitting somewhere into the puzzle of its origin is pretty cool. Put all of that together and I think this album is cool. You could say it lacked real defining moments and that’s fair. But I think albums like this are more about creating an overall vibe and less about making those album defining, standout tracks. I don’t think any of these tracks have a particularly catchy melody so no MMM

Van Morrison
Albums like these make me feel inadequate as a reviewer. So much I want to say, but no idea how to say it. This album makes me feel everything there is to feel. It takes me everywhere from joy, to love, to despair. From all the van Morrison I’ve listened to, this seems to be his most ambitious project. Every song there seems to be a new sound that catches my interest, so much beautiful instrumentation and such a variety of instruments packed into eight songs. Every time I hear strings or a flute(?) I ascend. Morrison’s vocals are soulful as always. Great songwriting. The whole album has a mystique around it that i can’t quite describe. It gives me peace.
It’s interesting how different this sound is from his other albums. Moondance has always been my favorite van Morrison album, but there’s no doubt it’s the more easily consumable of the two. The more times I listen to this, the smaller the gap becomes.
To lay this “Ed Sheeran of the 60’s” SLANDER to rest: Morrison and Sheeran both sing and play the guitar. They both belong, at least somewhat to the singer/songwriter genre. That’s where the comparisons end. Ed Sheeran has made the most basic, mainstream radio pop of possibly anyone in the last decade. Astral weeks was and is considered one of the more original, ambitious, and influential albums of the 60’s. Certainly within the sphere of folk/rock. This music wasn’t made for radio plays. Despite its acclaim, it’s never been an overly popular album. I would venture to say that nothing in Sheeran’s and ENTIRE career been as ambitious or impressive as the composition of ANY single one of the tracks on this album. There was nothing that sounded like this at the time, and truthfully, there hasn’t been since.
Best: Sweet thing, Cyprus avenue, astral weeks, madam George
Albums haven’t been good for MMMs recently and this one is more of the same. There is nothing particularly catchy about this album, considering considering it’s lack of conventional verses/hooks. It’s almost like poetry put to music in some ways. But I digress: no MMM today.

Michael Jackson
The king of pop for a reason. I've never listened to a Michael Jackson album all the through but obviously I've heard his plethora of hits. Always has seemed like Thriller was considered his magnum opus, and maybe it is, but man, this seems hard to top. Hit after hit. Killer bass grooves. Irresistible melodies. Radiates an energy that is beyond contagious. The A side is insane and while the B side may not quite live up to that same standard it's still great. Never a dull moment here. An abundance of MMM choices today (finally).
Best: Off the wall, Rock with you, dont stop til you get enough

Neil Young
A somber and folky singer:songwriter album. If you didn’t know already, that’s about as right up my alley as it gets. I liked it when I listened to it this morning but I knew it was one of those albums that was more suited for night listening. As expected, it hit different layer on. I don’t really know much about the public opinion of Neil young but I would assume his unique voice can be somewhat polarizing. I personally, am a big fan.
Also pretty cool backstory with this one: for a long time it was pretty much was an album of legend because it didn’t sell well and wasn’t re-released. So, for the most part, it was one that people only heard about. Only an exclusive few were able to listen to let alone own. Eventually was remastered in 2003 and, 30 years after release, able to be heard by the masses for the first time. Obviously now it’s pretty acclaimed and the rest is history.
Super laid back and mellow listen. This album obviously has a pretty depressing tone. That can make an album pretty hit or miss though, the ones that do it well are able to portray it without having to say “Look at me, I’m sad”. I think Neil young does a great job of that here. Many of the songs were clearly shaped by the political and social climate at the time, and given that its neil young, no surprise there. Revolution blues is all about Charles Manson which was kinda cool, also has a great baseline.
Very cohesive and consistent. Back half was a bit stronger for me and contained my favorite tracks. Overall it’s not my favorite Neil Young, but it was a very enjoyable listen for me. This could definitely move up to a 5 for me with more listens but that won’t be happening due to the accessibility issues. So dumb.
Best: motion pictures, ambulance blues, for the turnstiles
MMM: 🎶Ooh baby, that's hard to change. I can't tell them how to feel

Adele
My nostalgic lens may be clouding my vision a bit but this was such a great listen for me. This album was HUGE when it came out, packed with radio hits. And while that sometimes isn't the best thing in hindsight, this one holds up.
We have the big three: 'Rolling in the deep', 'set fire to the rain', 'someone like you'. All still bangers. Then we have 'turning tables' which is a better ballad than someone like you imo and maybe my favorite on the album. Then 'rumour has it' (which I recall being a bit more popular than the streams suggest) which is a fun banger where those drums and background vocals really take control. 'don't you remember' is the weakest of the first 6 but still a really good song. 'He won't go' also goes harder than I remember; that melody is killer. And those are the first 6 tracks (minus 'someone like you'). wow. The next three kinda drag a bit for me ngl. but that first half more than makes up for it. 'Lovesong' is a nice mellow track with the soft guitar and strings. And someone likes you is a strong ending track.
Bottom line: Adele is an incredibly talented singer. Adele uses that god given talent to make bangers. This is her best album. I've slowly had less and less interest for her music over the years just because I feel like it gets pretty same old. But that's not an issue with THIS album, if anything it's a testament to how good this album was. The rest just don't compare.
Favorites: Turning tables, he won't go, rolling in the deep, set fire to the rain

Really good album filled with more pop bangers. The vocals have a lot more emotion than off the wall also a lot more of the ad libs and rasp that MJ is known for. I dont feel like any of these songs match the groove that off the wall had. I still prefer OTW by a good amount but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a great album. Also the fact that it’s the same person on both covers is crazy💀. 10 years difference and literally unrecognizable.

Sonic Youth
Heard of sonic youth before but never heard their music. Then I realized they were considered noise rock and figured I'd hate it. And while there were certainly songs that I hated (drunken butterfly was an utterly terrible experience), there were also some that I found enjoyable. Was it noisy? yes. But the album was a lot more melodic than I had expected. Some redeeming qualities here for sure.
Yet another album that suffers from being too long. In my eyes, the track list could use some cleaning up, as there were a decent amount of tracks I would consider filler. On the other hand, I'm not typically a fan of the genre so maybe the tracks I would cut are considered essential by others. To each their own. The 5-6 tracks that I enjoyed are gonna keep this at a light 3 for me. If the track list was cleaned up, I could see this creeping into the high 3-4 territory. A pleasant surprise.
Songs I liked: Theresa's sound world, chapel hill, sugar kane, wish fulfillment, purr

I can say I listened to this, but that's about all I can say. I know this is an album that should be consumed with focus, listening intently to every song. Its essentially telling a story. But I couldn't do that, not at this length. It played in the background and I felt like it was halfway decent. Would prob give a two if it was a reasonable length. maybe even a 3 if I really focused on the story and enjoyed it. This album is an ambitious one, Ill give it that. And for the right listener, I could see it being a real hit. But I fear those listeners are few and far between. This is just nowhere near as interesting as it needs to be to justify its length.
No best and no MMM because I only listened once and nothing stuck with me at all

The Smashing Pumpkins
There’s a lot of good songs here. There’s also some bad ones. It had a pretty wide range stylistically. Some loud stuff, some grunge stuff, prog rock stuff, some lighter acoustic stuff. Billy Corgan is not the best singer and his songwriting can be pretty weak at times. But the album is riddled with great instrumentals and melodies. The more I listen to it the more I’m enjoying it. I feel like I need more time with this album to truly sort it out. Quick little shoutout to tracks that I HATED: tales of scorched earth, xyu, love. There’s probably around 7 more that I disliked/ thought we’re just okay. But that’s still 18 songs that I liked. Yeah this album is too long, but at least it has enough quality to, at least somewhat, justify the long run time.
Hard to decide on rating/favorite songs when there’s 28 songs, some of which I’ve only listened to once. Originally was thinking 3 but it’s grown on me a lot in just a day and I’m gonna bank on it continuing to grow. With that considered, im gonna, cautiously, go with a 4.

The doors have a super distinct sound. The organ/harpsichord or whatever it is. The dark, dramatic vocals. The overall mysterious vibe it all creates. Very cool and sexy.
For some reason that sound doesn’t really do a ton for me. Imo break on through is the best here and it’s not even close. Then soul kitchen and light my fire are pretty good. Other than that, nothing really interests me here. It’s not bad though. I can’t really explain how I feel about their sound, but it’s not something I’ll be going out of my way to listen to again.

The guitar in this album absolutely rips. Such a fire sound that you can’t really find anywhere else. Consistently good and, while I know this album came before, they really honed in on the sound from my favorite tracks on Mellon collie. Fuzzy guitars and softer vocals make even the heavier rock tracks seem calmer than they are. This album>>> Mellon collies for me. All the good with less bad.

Some bangers on here and some duds. You gotta move is actually hilariously bad and it sounds like that one tik tok sound I’m the beginning 😂. First three songs was a pretty good run, first 4 even. Also I don’t think I’ve ever paid attention to the brown sugar lyrics and they are actually wild asf. Song still slaps though. Dont feel like I was missing much having not heard this. I’ve already heard the best songs and the rest of them I could do without. Actually sway could make it into my Rotation. Won’t be revisiting but it was an enjoyable listen still.

Bob Dylan
I think bob Dylan has some good songs but I’ve never been the biggest fan of his. This was my fist time listening to a full album tho. I like unique vocal deliveries so that’s not my problem with his. I think my problem is the lack of strong melodies and sometimes boring compositions. I’ve found that I don’t have the attention span needed for actively listening to lyrics so I know some of his songwriting gets lost on me. Also some of the harmonica was kind of piercing on headphones so that was annoying but not his fault really. That being said, I did like this album. He’s obviously a good songwriter and there weren’t a lot of low points. I really liked the guitar tone on “stuck inside of mobile”. Blues sound on obviously five believers goes hard. High 3- low 4 for me. Leaning 3.
Best: stuck inside of mobile, one of us must know, obviously five believers, sad eyed lady of the lowlands (too long but good)
Tom asked the other day if I was ever gonna do a non-vocal MMM and todays the day—

I feel like I’ve heard every song in this album before. Not sure exactly why but i feel like this sounds like everything else in their sub genre. That being said, I still liked it. It had a lot of big epic compositions which was pretty cool. Maybe gets a bit stale. For the first half of the album i couldn’t stop thinking about how they sound like U2. For the second half I couldn’t stop thinking about how they sound like this one song I had in my head(turns out it was actually a song by them).
Bryce said something about “AI generated music” when talking about this album and I kind of see where he’s coming from. On a deeper level, this album does absolutely nothing for me. Like there’s no emotion or passion here, just music. The music is fine and good but it just doesn’t make me feel anything, which is equally important. Between a high2/ low 3. Leaning 3
Best: honestly no idea everything sounds equally good/bad to me.

Been wanting to listen to this so I’m glad we got it. Some folk rock is always welcomed and the band are pretty og as far as that sound goes. Groove on the opening track is sick. The weight is a timeless classic obviously. And the closing tracks raw vocals and harmonies😮💨. When I hear the words concept album my expectations immediately drop. They’re just not for me and they almost always fall flat or just come across as generally corny. And to be fair, the whole ziggy concept didn’t really move me much. Regardless, there’s no denying how great the music is.
Such a great mix of of everything you’d want in a rock album. The fact that it was made in ‘72 is makes it all the more impressive. A lot of these songs sound like they could have been made a decade later. Some great highlights and really an enjoyable listen the full way through.

This was somewhat fun to listen to at the gym just because of the crazy energy. But wow, the lyrics in these songs are so incredibly bad. And not the turbonegro type of bad where it’s funny. Pretty consistently good. The music can get pretty theatrical at times and those are probably my least favorite moments, but it’s ABBA so it has to be expected. I also can’t stop listening to Two For The Price Of One. The bassline when that chorus hits is TOO FIRE. Surf's Up
The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys have always had a fire sound with all the vocal harmonies and with a subject matter that’s more than just “let’s surf and have a fun summer” this album hits incredibly harder than some of their others. It’s their most somber album by a long shot, and they do a great job of switching it up while keeping enough of their trademark sound. This thing is filled with great tracks. Only skip on here for me is “student demonstration time” which was a diversion from their sound as well as tried too hard to be socially conscious; obviously they were going for that for most that album but I think this one just got overly specific and fell flat. Take a load off your feet is kinda dumb and light hearted for this album but I don’t mind the song on its own. Other than that everything plays for me. Some great songs on here to sit and think or just melt into your couch. Gonna give this a 4 but could see myself regretting not giving a 5.

To be transparent here my review may be inflated by me being in the optimal situation to hear this album. I had a 40 minute walk home after work at 1 am. Turned this one on and I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a more beautiful album. All of the instrumentals just had a way of evoking emotion. It was long for sure and I do kinda wish it was in English but when a albums speaks to me in this was I’m more willing to overlook that. Maybe I underrate this album because pink moons exists. It’s still nick drake and he still exudes emotion more than just about anyone can . But when pink moon does that just as well and combines it with much more interesting melodies, it makes it hard for this album to stack up. That being said, there’s certainly a time and place for this album and I’m not gonna be too harsh on any one of the three albums nick drake gave us before passing. A ton of really short songs with mostly dumb and/or confusing subject matter that sound like they were recorded on a first gen ipod touch. Somehow this is the recipe for a great album. So many great melodies here, and they're delivered in such a bite-sized way that they could keep the interest of the squirrel in my backyard. This album is the musical equivalent of those split screen tiktoks that show a movie clip on one screen and someone playing a mobile game on the other.
