Nope!
Interesting backing tracks and ambiance with cool beats but I didn't like the vocals. Very clearly from the 90s. Some Kraftwerk-like electronic sounds.
Cool concept album where the songs play together. I enjoyed the songwriting and instrumentation. The lead vocals aren't a style I like but it was only a problem for certain songs or solo singing. I'd listen again to get some more out of it.
A classic! The songwriting, harmonies, lyrics and instrumentation just all scream nostalgia. While I don't like Young's voice, you have to admit he has passion and is a great songwriter. He probably contributed to some of the heavier rock bits. I just love the vocals of the CSN trio.
Neat sounds and grooves.
Syncopation and prog influences - I had no idea! Much more layered than I expected.
Okay album but the vocals are pretty punk-inspired which I just don't like for personal reasons. Too monotone. The synth vibes were good though!
In the same vein as Folklore (same producer) with beautiful vocals, thought-provoking lyrics and piano-heavy composition. Mellow with lovely melodies and a Joni Mitchell cover! I'd listen in the background when just chilling.
I heard about this album when it came out but I was too cool for "current music" at the time. But it's honestly just prog mixed with James Blake and that's pretty darn great! Very pleased with it and worth a few more listens.
Classic Rolling Stones. Sympathy for the Devil is excellent. Nothing else too exceptional, just a solid album.
Good stuff - very eclectic and full of dissonance. I liked Venus as a Boy and of course Big Time Sensuality.
The first two songs have good beats, and are probably great in a club, but the album is quite dated and very repetitive with songs running way longer than they should without variation. I really wanted to like it more but I just got bored yet it was just a bit too harsh to have in the background. Definitely a product of its time.
I had no idea this would be a concept album and so autobiographical! While the subject matter was quite graphic and there was profuse swearing and sexual themes, Biggie painted a vivid picture of his life through clever rhymes, beats, and bass lines. It was executed flawlessly and it gets a 4 even though I wouldn't necessarily listen to it again.
I've listened to this before and enjoyed it! Great background or entertaining music with fun instrumentals and vocals. It represents a rebirth of the Cuban musical tradition and its breakthrough into the mainstream.
I only knew the radio hits from this album, but it turns out MGMT is a psychedelic rock band! Interesting time signatures and instrumentation - I especially liked "Weekend Wars". Pleasantly surprised!
Couldn't get into this... Very slow and dragging. I know some people really like this style but I just didn't find it interesting or engaging.
I really wanted to like this more given the Talking Heads connection but just couldn't get into the vocal style. Didn't feel... serious or layered enough? Got to love Adrian Belew though!
While I'm not the biggest Boston fan, this album is a masterpiece and perfectly executed by one person! Sickly sweet vocals, blended harmonies, great guitar riffs and epic keyboard solos with heavy prog influences.
Minnesota boy! Funky, great instrumentation and vocals. And that guitar!
Just fantastic - one of my absolute favorites. The title track is such a musical Odyssey with many different sections, it always gets me going!
Classic Bruce - I really like the piano and saxophone. Fairly repetitive but fun to listen to and get in a groove.
Great album with classic songs. One of my favorites and a showcase of Talking Heads style.
Classic album, would listen to in the background. Kind of like Billy Joel plus Joe Jackson plus Meat Loaf but not quite as good as any? Quintessential Springsteen though and I liked the simplicity of Meeting Across the River.
I don't really know how to tell Jazz apart but I could tell this was good! Some interesting dissonant chords.
Pretty standard Christmas music
Enjoyed the instrumental palette from this one!
Not my style
Good album from someone I'd never known much about!
Very catchy, great beats and riffs. Stan is a classic. Lyrics and rapping are introspective even if the subject matter is very crass.
Not a huge fan of John Lennon as a solo artist. I'll just leave it at that.
Really solid album all the way through and an archetype of this style.
Okay. Not my favorite sound - quite dissonant at times.
Excellent jazz piano with Alice and Wonderland so I'm sold!
Cool stuff with good soundscape. Certainly feels like it's from the 90s but I thought it was well done and provocative.
Decent renditions of soul songs but doesn't seem like Redding's best work? Also just not my favorite genre (I've heard Respect and My Girl too many times in life).
Started a 2 (pretty derivative and I don't like when high vocals back a main vocal but just an octave up) but then Crown of Love was a banger with a great ending and upped it to a 3, and the rest of the album carried that momentum all the way up to 4. Good stuff, was just what my run needed.
Super weird atmospheric music. I'd heard about this group on the Prog subreddit but it didn't really feel like prog, more like ambient or electronic - no rock instrumentation. Like Marconi Union.
Good stuff! I enjoyed the Mexican influences in the sound and lyrics.
Solid album with great piano, vocals, and instrumentation.
Whoa, this is incredible! Bjork uses the power of vocals and harmonies to anchor the soundscape. Some breathy sounds aren't my favorite but are very effective.
While I'm not a huge fan of his voice, the songs and instrumentation were warm and rich.
Good dance album, and I think I'd used a song on my workout playlist before.
Dang, Abba is just such a sonic oasis and melodic paradise. What an absolute joy to listen to and to lift up your spirits!
One of my favorites! Especially Locomotive Breath, Hymn 43, Mother Goose, My God, and Cross-Eyed Mary. Love the blend of folk and prog!
Kind of like a Roxy Music and New Order hybrid? I like the Roxy Music bits and have enjoyed songs by Japan in the past, but I think their style changed for this album.
Early era Beatles with some lovely covers like Till There Was You. Not my favorite of theirs but a taste of what's to come!
Really fun music!
Funky album but not a genre I'm really into.
Decent album but not my style of music for personal reasons...
Nope!
One of the best albums of all time. Behind Blue Eyes is one of my favorites. Such raw vocal emotion and layered instrumentals.
The raw power of the original 4 lineup with the whimsy and quirk, and a medley of everything they have ever done up to this point.
Nice chill music with some innovation, I liked it!
Incredible vocals and emotional jazz piano with poignant and thought-provoking lyrics.
Okay this is a pretty great album and I like how they used the left and right speakers and cool sound effects. Really well written and performed, especially for an era when this kind of rock can be so conventional and commercialized.
A classic album with some absolutely bonkers tracks, and then beautiful, simple pieces like Blackbird. Shows the real range the Beatles were capable of producing.
Really great jazz! I'd happily listen to this again.
Nothing special - I liked the prog elements but felt like the mixing was kind of messy, and the songs blended together in my head. Nothing really stood out to me except for Seven Seas of Rhye.
Just crazy. They really get into it with these renditions, especially Emerson on the keyboard. Not my favorite prog ever but you can't deny the energy and passion they put into this performance!
I enjoy Brian Eno's solo projects quite a bit. I think I prefer his earlier stuff, but this is still an excellent listen and makes you think.
I always enjoy Jazz and Blues, but never really knew how to tell if something was good or just okay until this app started helping me tell things apart. And I have to say, this live performance is one of the most dynamic, talented and emotional I've ever heard. The interactions with the crowd enhance the experience to make it fully immersive, and the range of King's voice (I just knew of him as a guitar player before this) is phenomenal! Truly a great album.
Just toeing the line between rock and punk, and finding the right balance of technical playing, musicality, and interesting riffs with the emotion and swagger of punk. It's tight when it needs to be and loose when it is necessary. So many different influences as well. I have always enjoyed this album, especially Spanish Bombs, Lost in the Supermarket, and Train in Vain.
Solid album! I only know a song or two by Deep Purple, but this album was a great dive into the real meat of their repertoire. Ian Gillan is probably the quintessential rock vocalist, and I loved the mix of rock, early heavy metal, prog, and psychedelic.
Absolute classic but you have to be okay with Joni Tuning and for the songs to go in unexpected directions! Her voice is wonderful - I have no idea how she hits those high notes and I love her guitar playing. Not my favorite album of hers but very quintessentially Joni.
Interesting vocal doubles and acoustic guitar parts. Not my favorite genre, and the vocals are a bit apathetic which I know is part of the style but didn't work for me.
This CD was in the car when I was a kid so I've heard it a ton of times. I really like the keyboard riffs (especially on Love Her Madly and The Changeling, what a great opener) and of course Riders on the Storm is a classic. However, some of the magic is gone, or maybe my tastes have changed. I tend to prefer tighter and cleaner performances with more interesting vocal melodies and harmonies. The Doors just like to jam and it seems like each track was done in a clean take with no additional layers. Nothing wrong with that, but I've just gotten used to music that has lots of replayability and things to look for every time. Jim's voice is powerful and emotionally raw but the actual melody is often quite simple and similar between songs. But give me that keyboard any day!
Trying to be ambient but a bit underdeveloped for me.
Ah, now this is the Queen I've been waiting for! So many layers and concept album elements that make a full listen so enjoyable.
Groovy but couldn't get past the vocals (personal preference)
Groovy stuff, a fun listen with lots of depth.
Great riffs and beats with electronic and synth backing. Really enjoyed the listen, though some of the tracks dragged on a bit.
I wanted to give this an honest try but don't want to ruin my music recommendation algorithm... I cannot stand the vocals of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and it spoils any cool grooves or musicianship that's trapped beneath. Repetitive and off-key, I cringe just imagining the vocals. I also really dislike the part of Under the Bridge where they have a chorus singing the same part an octave up from the lead singer. I feel like the singer has an incredibly small vocal range (I cannot stand the way he sings "partner") and yet the chorus is also too high and it's just a discordant cacophony that grates on my ears. Would be a much better song sang by someone else.
Some fun tracks (I've always enjoyed Band on the Run for all the different sections it has) but not particularly interesting or engaging.
Not a fan of the vocal modulations - very distracting, unfortunately, since it's fine otherwise!
Had to listen as a fellow Minnesotan, but just can't quite get drawn into his music. A little bit too slow, somehow? He's an incredible guitarist and Let's Go Crazy is an absolute banger, though!
Awesome classic prog album. Very similar to early King Crimson (especially a riff that's a lot like the guitar in 21st Century Schizoid Man). Gotta love Rick Wakeman and Bill Bruford. Mix of tracks that appeal to the masses and deeper cuts.
I really enjoyed this album. Seems like a perfect representation of its time, if not a little bit ahead. Harry's voice is great and it was just a pleasant and fun listen.
Kind of like a 90s version of The Who, but without the nuance in production that made The Who so special. A decent sound and album but I'd rather listen to some other stuff.
Very interesting concept album with a film noir soundscape. Not sure it's anything exceptional but I love when people make concept albums for random stuff!
Absolutely lovely and joyous to listen to. Smooth, sensual, rhythmic, and varied.
Excellent upbeat jazz and big band from an all-time great.
Not a fan of this proto-punk style, unfortunately. Too sloppy for me.
A classic, especially with I Zimbra, Mind, Heaven, Life During Wartime, and Air. Honestly just this entire album is great and was a huge part of my childhood. Love the instrumentation and lyrics. Great beats.
Probably decent but my boss played this on repeat at work and now I can't listen to it anymore...
A classic album. I especially enjoyed the lyrics of Everybody Loves Me, Baby (the song itself was quite similar to American Pie). Vincent is also lovely! McLean's voice is just so smooth and drips with nostalgia.
I really liked this - the jazz influence was subtle but kept the songs a bit more cohesive and listenable than some of the stuff on Blue. California is just so lovely!
Solid album, nice to listen to while focusing. Great ambience.
I am a simple human. I see Peter Gabriel, I am happy. It feels like a warm hug of nostalgia enveloping me, even though I was born way after these albums were released. Peter is my all-time favorite solo artist, so I might be a bit biased here, but I just love this album. He's figuring out his style after leaving Genesis, so there are many different sounding tracks on this album, but every piece is just great. His voice has a gravely tone that is so unique and captivating. I especially like Solsbury Hill (a pop song in 7/4, that perfect mix of pop catchiness and prog nuance to keep me interested), Here Comes the Flood, Slowburn, Down the Dolce Vita, and Modern Love. The full orchestral sections mixed with a funky driving rock beat really get me. I'm also a sucker for anything with Tony Levin or Robert Fripp. I hope his other solo work is on this list!
I thought the drum patterns were interesting! But I'm not a fan of this vocal style and couldn't understand the words. I think this genre isn't really for me (kind of like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, etc).
Super fun and funky with some originals and covers. Very enjoyable and while a bit simple sounding now, it was clearly an innovative sound back in the day!
Holy cow I wasn't expecting a psychedelic rock band! Totally blown away. Definitely worth a few more listens to get all the juicy layers.
