Popular Reviews

Tago Mago by Can

Wow, not for me. An odd combination of all the things wrong with 60s and 70s rock / prog rock

All Ratings (88)

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Dec 30 2023

Clear why this album is on the list. Born in the USA, I'm on fire, glory days, dancing in the dark.. Solid album, wasn't a huge fan of no surrender or my hometown. Sounds very 80s at times but not in a bad way. Lots of lyrics focusing on blue collar America.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Dec 30 2023

Love unfinished sweet. Not a big fan of elected and no more Mr nice guy has been played to death, but a fairly solid album.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Dec 31 2023

Solid live album that I enjoyed more than expected. Certainly plays into the 70s rock era with its overly long guitar and drum solos but the band was better than expected.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Jan 01 2024

Surprising album, very easy listen, would say first half of the record is the stronger half.

Violator by Depeche Mode
Jan 02 2024

VERY 80s,which is funny as the album came out in 1990. Enjoyable album, although several songs felt like they were building to something that never came.

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Jan 03 2024

Very 80s. Nothing offensive, but not really rocking my boat. Moments of almost pop punk sounds, but they don't push enough into it.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Jan 04 2024

Not a prince fan apparently. Didn't do anything for me.

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Jan 06 2024

Liking it more than expected. Not normally my sound and no massive stand outs but a very solid album I was able to get through multiple times without a problem.

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Jan 07 2024

First album I couldn't make it through. I'm assuming the off key singing is on purpose, but it doesn't do anything for me.

Jan 08 2024

Meh. British art / prog rock that sounds like it should be out of the 70s not the 90s. And having to use YouTube and listen to adds really hurts the experience.

Ramones by Ramones
Jan 09 2024

Songs are short and catchy. Definitely see where grunge got their inspiration.

Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto
Jan 11 2024

Like a less catchy Sade

My Generation by The Who
Jan 13 2024

Outside of a few songs it sounds almost beach-boy-ish. Despite having my generation I found too much of the rest lacking.

Tellin’ Stories by The Charlatans
Jan 14 2024

Shocked I had never heard of this group before. Solid brit rock a la Oasis.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Jan 15 2024

Had a few nice sounds, and certainly not a long album. Not much else positive to say, certainly won't be one to remember.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Jan 16 2024

Perfectly listenable album that has a very late 80s sound, surprisingly it's from 83. No huge standouts and I don't think there's any of their hits here (admittedly not an REM expert) so it falls a little short of expectations.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Jan 18 2024

Like a lot of bands that pavement paved the way for, but not feeling this. Individual ingredients are there but just never mixed into something special.

McCartney by Paul McCartney
Jan 22 2024

His odd Elvis impersonation and a few instrumental tracks drag this down.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Jan 23 2024

Liked it more than expected. Groovy, just can't help but dig it.

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Jan 24 2024

Not much here, Lush 3-1 was good enough to bump it up a notch.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Jan 25 2024

Happy surprise. Several really nice tracks on here, along with plenty of experimentation.

Leftism by Leftfield
Jan 26 2024

Wasn't anything I could get into. Ended up skipping through several tracks

Abraxas by Santana
Jan 27 2024

Easy listen. Songs not nearly as long as I expected based on genre and release year. Couple of really solid songs but the rest passed by without leaving much of a mark.

Faith by George Michael
Jan 28 2024
Jan 29 2024

Has that classic early 90s hard rap sound, but holy misogyny batman. Nothing really standing out and certainly not something I want to be heard listening to.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jan 30 2024

Outside of Clint Eastwood it was a surprisingly dull listen.

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Jan 31 2024

Alright workout album. Solid beats and good tempo, not necessarily any major standouts

Music by Madonna
Feb 01 2024

Expected Madonna on this list as she is renowned, but not this album. Way too much bad autotune and the worst American pie cover ever.

Next by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Feb 02 2024

Meh. Very forgettable album mainly focused on his dick. At least it's short.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Feb 03 2024

Not bad for a 50s / 60s album. It's very much obvious what era it's from.

New Forms by Roni Size
Feb 04 2024

Wow this isn't for me. Struggled to get through

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club
Feb 05 2024

Nothing super offensive here but nothing really stands out either. Just another very 80s album

So by Peter Gabriel
Feb 13 2024

Solid album. Not a huge fan of sledgehammer considering it's relative popularity, but really good album.

White Light by Gene Clark
Feb 24 2024

Early folk rock? Not bad, not really anything stand out either

Doolittle by Pixies
Feb 25 2024

Very meh. Was expecting much more. Gouge away my favorite.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Feb 27 2024

Really good voice, but it's covers.not feeling that such an album really fits on a list like this. Mama said and will you love me tomorrow are my personal standouts.

John Prine by John Prine
Feb 28 2024

Was very listenable for an older country album. Very solid lyrics, flag decal sounds like it could have been written in the past few years.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Feb 29 2024

Another star, isn't she lovely, and love in bed of love today were the standouts. Very solid and listenable for such a large album.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Mar 03 2024

Sorry but sweet. Enjoyed it more than I expected to.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Mar 05 2024

Super solid album, so close to five stars. I'm a little surprised that of all the Beatles George Harrison would be my favorite but here we are.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Mar 06 2024

Ridiculous song length. Amazing voice, obviously, but the songs aren't that exciting.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mar 09 2024
Mar 11 2024

Amazing. beautiful melodies, guitar work, and one of the nicer voices in modern rock. A proper album beginning to end, nice to see such a big song as the closer, where usually albums loose stream as they go

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Mar 13 2024

Bruce is proving to always be a win.

Tago Mago by Can
Mar 14 2024

Wow, not for me. An odd combination of all the things wrong with 60s and 70s rock / prog rock

Bad Company by Bad Company
Mar 28 2024

70s rock through and through. Good 70s rock, but still sounds so much like so many others.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Mar 29 2024

Meeh. Nothing offensive to my ears but nothing that screams must hear

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Mar 30 2024

Couple decent tracks but again very 70s

Boston by Boston
Mar 31 2024

Sold album that can be listened to from start to end. Had most their major hits, and didn't overstay it's welcome.

Apr 03 2024

Some filler and very heavy on the language, but a better album then I expected

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Apr 04 2024

Right out of the 70s, not necessarily in a positive way. Extremely repetitive lyrics, extremely repetitive lyrics.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Apr 06 2024

Not a bad album, but there's at least 3 better Bowie albums that deserve the spot.

In Utero by Nirvana
Apr 10 2024

Not as polished as nevermind, but in a way it makes it more of a proper grunge album. Tons of hits still, can't go wrong, 5 star

Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
Apr 11 2024

Alright 80s pop album, but certainly nothing special. and the 47 interludes detract.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Apr 13 2024

Some highs and lows. Gets a little out there for me, and very repetitive in the middle bits. Ends on a high note.

Purple Rain by Prince
Apr 14 2024

Wow this is way better than I was expecting. Sort of back side heavy as I loved 4 of the last 5 songs

Apr 15 2024

Lyrics are mainly background noise and very repetitive. Nothing much here interesting for me.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Apr 16 2024

Perfectly ok. Nothing jumping out but nothing desperately needing to be skipped.

Gris Gris by Dr. John
Apr 28 2024

Very late 60s early 70s vibe. Nothing stands out against the million other similar drug fueled artistic works that somehow end up on a list like this.

Scum by Napalm Death
Apr 29 2024

Jesus. In what universe is the noise being created here once of the 1001 albums you need to hear? I try hard not to yuck other's yums, but this is just garbage.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
May 01 2024

Love sympathy for the devil, and some nicer tracks with an almost country sound to them. Does dip hard later in the album.

Play by Moby
May 03 2024

Holy repetitive batman. Glad the genre evolved beyond this or it would be long gone by now. Lots of catchy beats but the repetition kills me.

The Band by The Band
Dec 17 2024

Not bad, some catchy songs. Sounds incredibly 60s.
