Popular Reviews

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath

This is a surprise to me. I though black Sabbath was all hard core rock. There is some swing in here that I was not expecting. The vocals are good too. I will likely listen again! 4/5

Amnesiac by Radiohead

I couldnt nearly get through this. It’s so messy and uninspiring. 2/5 Not a fan

The Dreaming by Kate Bush

Rather eccentric album. It definitely sounds like something that would have been made in the 80s. The main thing that threw me off was the upper octave echo parts throughout most of the tracks. I skipped a few tracks when that started up. Won't listen again. 2/5

Jan 10 2024

The way the band flows from song to song is really fun. He has such command of the band sound and flow. All songs are classic swing and soul, a real fun listen.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 11 2024

It sounds like this stuff was screaming through radios in the 80s on country roads. A few classics Ive heard before. Very American. Little too repetitive for me though. Many of the songs could use more dynamic back ends.

Tommy by The Who
Jan 12 2024

I am not a fan. Alot of the songs are rather long winded and mostly instrumental. Alot of the background band is really just noise; there are times where I can't hear a melody of any sort. This feels like a halfbaked album that could have been a weird 4-5 track EP. Also don't care for the range the singers hang in most of the time, very shrill.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Jan 15 2024

Coming off of The Who - Tommy album from the 60's... this was a breath of fresh air. Very well produced and balanced. I wouldn't guess this album was from 2003, it really sounds out of its time. I enjoyed the unique nature with intermittent tracks of more modern stuff. I never wanted to skip a track really. Will likely give it another listen in a month or so. This is really a 3.5 but where it comes in the stream of albums it earns a 4

Jan 16 2024

Truly a great album. I was transported to the old west. Marty's command and storytelling of his voice is unmatched. 5/5 album that I will come back to often when I am in the mood for a western.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 17 2024

This is one of my favorite bands from the past. I love thier classic hits but have never sat down and listened to any of thier albums. Alot of thier songs have alot of similar motifs and rythems which is fine by me. I love the sound that they trailblazed and that has been copied in many modern bands. They were truly influencial on a large scale. Love this album 5/5.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Jan 18 2024

This album sounds like a group just hanging out, jamming and having a great time. Great sounding sax as well. It is a very chill listen. I think 4/5 for sure, I will be back if I'm in the mood.

Cypress Hill by Cypress Hill
Jan 19 2024

Hip hop is the genre I know least about. I can see how this album was influential to the genre especially coming out so early in the 90s. It's just not for me. 1/5

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jan 22 2024

This is not for me. It's really repeative and uninspiring. This sounds like the music from that era which is my least favorite era of music (late90s-early00s). I won't listen to this album again. 1/5

Stankonia by OutKast
Jan 23 2024

This album was OK. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I can understand the influence on other albums of the time I do like some of the rhythms and flow and some of the tracks. It is also a little too vulgar for me. 3/5

Jan 24 2024

I like this album. I didn’t know that Queen was hard rock like this. I always knew them for their major hits that had more of a vocal aspect to it. I will definitely listen to it again. 5/5.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Jan 25 2024

This genre of grunge/noise rock is not enjoyable to me. I think some songs are listenable but majority is more noise than anything. I can listen through it but I would not actively seek it out. 2/5

Opus Dei by Laibach
Jan 26 2024

Not for me. It was all in German and super dark. Not sure how this is in the list. 1/5

Odelay by Beck
Jan 29 2024

It's a pretty interesting sounds coming from the 90s; definitely would not have placed it there. Over all though it's not really my speed. Some of the tracks use some pretty high pitched sounds for the melody and I did not enjoy it. 2/5 I would not seek this out

Heroes by David Bowie
Jan 30 2024

I know very little about Bowie. He has an interesting sound for the late 70s. It sounds very much like 80s music. Over all it is OK album to me. If I am in the mood for 80s I would listen again. 3/5

Konnichiwa by Skepta
Jan 31 2024

The production value is good. The tracks are too explicite for me quite frankly. I likely won't listen again. 2/5

Hejira by Joni Mitchell
Feb 01 2024

I was surprised by this album. I can't say I have heard anything by Joni before, unless it was top charts at one point. The storytelling here is quite elaborate and thought out. It's kind of spoken word, which I am not the biggest fan of, but this is well-executed with a great voice and backing instrumentals. I will likely be back again when I am in the zone for some ballads. Best Track: Coyote. 4/5 I will be back

Headquarters by The Monkees
Feb 02 2024

this album is quintessential 70s. It reminds me a lot of the beach boys but not as good. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. 3/5

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Feb 05 2024

This is nothing like anything I've heard from the late 90s / early 00s; I would have thought this was more recent. The sampling is really fun and really spans across all genres. The beats are also unique and entertaining. I am also a sucker for seamless track transition; it's like one big stream of consciousness. I will listen again. 4/5

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 06 2024

Such an iconic album. Definitely on the top shelf. 5/5

Ananda Shankar by Ananda Shankar
Feb 07 2024

Not for me. I could not finish it. I don't like the sound of the Sitar. I can understand how this was influential to global music being put on the map. I did not finish. 1/5

Aja by Steely Dan
Feb 08 2024

Pretty groovy album over all. I like steely dans top songs so it was cool to see what other stuff he had. Might listen again. 3/5

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Feb 09 2024

This album is quintessential 80s which is not too bad. However, I could not stand his voice. The background instruments were OK. Overall would not seek out again. 2/5

1989 by Taylor Swift
Feb 12 2024

This is my first modern pop album from the list. I remember when this came out and it was a big hit! I am personally a fan of Taylors music going all the way back to her first few albums. Overall solid album. 4/5

Sea Change by Beck
Feb 13 2024

I’m not really a big fan. This is my second album from Beck on this list. I would say it’s better than the shaggy dog album. Overall not too bad I might listen again. 3/5

Black Metal by Venom
Feb 16 2024

That's a nope from me. 1/5

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 19 2024

I enjoyed this album, not as much as thier prev. more popular album Rumores. Thier sound is somewhat different; I will likely come back and check it out again. Still a solid, clean group. 4/5

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Feb 20 2024

This was alot of screaming. I understand it probably takes alot of skill to yell like that and alot of 70-80s bands do that; but it was too much for me. 2/5

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Feb 21 2024

Over all a well produced album. The genre is not for me. I have a problem with extremly repetitive loops. I won't be listening again for that reason. 2/5

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Feb 22 2024

Rather eccentric album. It definitely sounds like something that would have been made in the 80s. The main thing that threw me off was the upper octave echo parts throughout most of the tracks. I skipped a few tracks when that started up. Won't listen again. 2/5

Fire Of Love by The Gun Club
Feb 23 2024

I am not a fan of spoken word singing honestly. Also alot of the lyrics were really troublesome and hard to get through. 1/5 could not finish.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Feb 26 2024

ICONIC. So many hits from this album. Truly one of the GOATs of soul. Will be back 4/5

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Feb 27 2024

Make since they toured with Led Zeppelin, they have a similar sound. Over all a fun albulm to listen too; I am a sucker for ballads. I will likely listen again. 4/5

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Feb 28 2024

I am not big on Hip Hop but this is extremely listenable. Well produced. I like the sound bites they use throughout. I may revisit this album in the future. 3/5

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Feb 29 2024

Dolly is Iconic. I can say I've never listened to this album all the way through before. I will be returning because it gives that feeling of home and comfort. I am not a fan of all country music by any means but this not like alot of country.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Mar 01 2024

Elton is always a great listen. I want to spend more time in his discography. This album also starts with Tiny Dancer, one of the most iconic. I will be back. 4/5

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Mar 05 2024

Truly an iconic sound. I never knew what group some of these tracks came from. Such soul in this group. I'll be back if I am in the mood for soul. 4/5

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
Mar 06 2024

I can't stand the lead voice. Quintessential 80s mumble singing. 1/5 could not finish.

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
Mar 07 2024

Over all not bad. I can see how it w as before it's time coming from the 80s; this sounds late 90s early 00s if I had to guess. Though it is well produced its not particularly my favorite genre. I might listen again, 3/5

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Mar 08 2024

It's OK. All the beats and volume are relatively monotone. Very 90s. I would not seek out. 2/5

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 11 2024

Once again I have an issue with the voice, especially when the lyrics at the end are extremely repetitive! I could not finish 2/5

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Mar 12 2024

Wow, got two of his albums back to back. Same issue, could not handle the voice. Could not finish 2/5

Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem
Mar 13 2024

This one surprised me. I am always on the look out for great instrumental only albums. This one was good. The drum tracks and repetitiveness were very 90s/00s but it wasn't enough to be off-putting. I will likely listen again when I am reading or working. 4/5

Vento De Maio by Elis Regina
Mar 14 2024

This is extremely listenable. I didn't know how easy it would be to listen to if I don't speak the language. The band ensemble also flows really well; they are laying down some great sounds. I will definitely listen again. 4/5

Moby Grape by Moby Grape
Mar 15 2024

Overall, this album is pretty OK. It’s giving a lot of Beatles vibes. I enjoy the instrumentals more than the vocals. I might listen again. 3/5

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Mar 18 2024

I mean it’s Jonny Cash. The song writing and vocals are top notch. Even though the recording quality of the instruments aren’t great it’s a special album because it’s at San Quentin Jail. For sure top shelf 5/5

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Mar 19 2024

Rage against the machine has a very definitive sound. I like their strong base and lead guitar motifs. I may listen again if in the mood for 00’s. 3/5

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Mar 20 2024

This is what I would expect to be playing in the background of a hip hip dance training video. Very of it’s time. Over all not bad production quality. I don’t enjoy repetitive beats very much though. I’d say 3/5

Pornography by The Cure
Mar 21 2024

Did not enjoy, did not finish

Mar 22 2024

I mean it's queen. Such an iconic sound that I am sure they were the first to do. There are some top 100 songs on here but some of the albulm was too experimental for me. I will probably listen again. 4/5

Revolver by Beatles
Mar 25 2024

Not a bad Beatles album honestly. I am not the biggest fan by default. I will likely listen again if I'm in the mood for Beatles. 4/5

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
Mar 26 2024

I understand Metalloca had a cult following and influenced alot of the metal music around that era. I just don't think I am a fan of Metal like this. 3/5 it's OK.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Mar 27 2024

Over all OK album. Nothing to write home about but also not terrible. 3/5

Arc Of A Diver by Steve Winwood
Mar 28 2024

This is a pretty groovy album, I was plesently surprised. Pretty fun listen. I will likely give it another go. 4/5

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Mar 29 2024

This is a surprise to me. I though black Sabbath was all hard core rock. There is some swing in here that I was not expecting. The vocals are good too. I will likely listen again! 4/5

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Apr 01 2024

I.con.ic voice of the 80s. So many bangers. 5/5

Apr 02 2024

There are some great hits in here! However this is not my favorite Coldplay Album. Still a great and iconic album that put them on the map of pop music. 4/5

Brothers by The Black Keys
Apr 03 2024

I am already a fan of the Black Keys. There recipe is pretty straight forward: deep drum grooves with a solid guitar melody and back up, then a strong lead vocal and throw fuzz on everything. It's all good stuff though. It's not dense where you really have to think about it. They are just providing solid song writing and arranging that you can have going in the back ground. Not top shelf for me but for sure will be back to have another listen. 4/5

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Apr 04 2024

Mostly OK. Very reparative which I would have on for background music. 3/5

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Apr 05 2024

This is a subset of music I know nothing about. It seems like it would have a group of folks that remember this from their youth back in the day. Over all it’s ok 3/5

Purple Rain by Prince
Apr 10 2024

I don’t have the nostalgia for Prince like a lot of people have. Still a very great artist and I enjoyed the album for the most part. 4/5 Will likely listen again

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Apr 11 2024

Never heard this type of early alternative music. I think most of the songs are about a min too long. Not a fan of super repetative stuff. It's ok 3/5

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Apr 12 2024

I couldnt nearly get through this. It’s so messy and uninspiring. 2/5 Not a fan

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Apr 15 2024

This was an OK album. I had no real draw to it. Over all well produced but not super interested. 3/5

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Apr 16 2024

Honestly, too much for me. I am not a fan of this genre general and this one was over the top vulgar. 2/5 won't be back

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Apr 17 2024

This is really a bunch of noise to me. I don’t really enjoy this type of music. 2/5

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Apr 19 2024

CCR! Sound of the 70s! Top shelf 5/5

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Apr 22 2024

Truly an inspiration in the jazz realm. I enjoyed listening to this, and I’ll probably be back when I’m in the mood for some jazz. 4/5

Dookie by Green Day
Apr 23 2024

Not my cup of tea. If all I can hear is over drive and the snare, I'm not a fan. Not to say this is bad, I know Green Day is iconic in the genre. It's just not for me 2/5 I won't be reaching for it again.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Dec 31 2024

This is just a SOLID rock album, I will return to listen for sure!

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
Jan 01 2025

The opening sex scene is an immediate skip from me dawg. 1/5 did not finish

Jan 03 2025

Ehh, not my cup of tea. Alot of it was kind of noise with some good beats. Did not care for the large use of falsetto singing. 2/5 won't come back to.

Jan 06 2025

I know Nirvana is an important group in the history of music. However, I think I would have enjoyed this more if I liked Nirvana more. I know this person wasn't the original singer but I can't get past the vocals: very nasal, raspy, and flat. 2/5 I will not be back to listen.

Achtung Baby by U2
Jan 07 2025

Nothing to write home about in my opinion, it is listenable. I think this embodies an error of music I don't quite care for. 3/5

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Jan 08 2025

Hm, not sure how this is near the top of the list. I liked a few tracks in the record and they are quite good at making a lot of noise in the middle of the music. But I don't think I will be reaching for this. 3/5 eh

Ramones by Ramones
Jan 24 2025

I get it, I am sure they are iconic for 80s/90s straight rock. However, all their songs sound the same! They also have terrible vocals; it works for their big hit but it got old. 2/5 I won't be back, but I did learn some history.

London Calling by The Clash
Jan 27 2025

Pretty weird combo in some of the tracks. Ultimately, I don't enjoy the vocals and vibes in this long-winded album. This record shows its age. I won't be pulling any tracks out of this one. 3/5 its OK

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jan 28 2025

I can see why this is a classic. It has as ALOT of soul. This would fit right along the best of the age, Aretha and others. Overall great production and execution. 3/5 May listen again. For sure adding to my soul playlist.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Jan 31 2025

This is not my cup of tea. Not a fan of constant profanity. Would not seek out

2112 by Rush
Feb 03 2025

A really solid prog rock album, I liked it. The 20 min opener is a fun twist on how albums are generally created. Vocals are not overly shrill and over bearing. It's balanced really well. 4/5 I will be back

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Feb 04 2025

Not really a fan. Sounds very 90s and uninspiring. It's listenable, but nothing to write home about. 3/5

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 16 2025

I have never sat down and listened to a Raggae album. Of all to start with, this is probably the best. I think Bob Marley IS the genre. 4/5 Great, when I'm in the mood for vibes I will be back.

The Yes Album by Yes
Jun 23 2025

All in all a solid rock album! I liked the tracks that were diff from standard rock; great guitar playing skill. 4/5 will likely be back

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Jul 28 2025

This is a THICK soul album. Repetitive in some areas, and I am not the biggest fan of straight talk storytelling for 10 min; but dripping with hot butter. Quite a good album when you are looking to slow down. 3/5 not bad

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Jul 29 2025

Not really for me. I can understand how it is influential to the genre, but every song sounds the same to me. I prefer complex melodies and instrumentation more than lyrics so there was nothing really special on this for me. 2/5

Kala by M.I.A.
Jul 30 2025

Interesting, I know very little about this genre and time. Pretty cool that this album was mostly made in Logic. Paper Planes is pretty iconic but all in all this is party music that I don't think I will listen to a lot. 3/5

Copper Blue by Sugar
Jul 31 2025

This all sounds the same. The drums are mixed as the loudest component of the band. I know it's the style of this genre but it's hard to listen to the track when all I can hear is high-hat and snare. In all I don't care for this type of music, 2/5 I won't be back

C'est Chic by CHIC
Aug 04 2025

What a Great Funk album, a true case study on what it was to be cool back in the day. I will definitely be back! 4/5

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Aug 05 2025

I was surprised to hear alot of instruments other than the basic 3. There are a few songs I have heard that were covered by other groups. This is my first Rolling Stones album and I am pleasantly surprised! I was expecting boring classic rock, but I got so much more. 4/5 Great! I will dive more into rolling stones

Aug 06 2025

Seems like a pretty important album in music history, it was pretty ok. It felt very much of the time period. 3/5 it was OK

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Aug 07 2025

ICONIC, I think they set the bar for this genre. I have never taken the time to listen to them. I quite like the mixing, and they sound great together. 4/5 Great album, great vibes

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Aug 11 2025

The best album I have heard from Steely Dan, featuring some proper classics. This is a time piece that I enjoyed listening to! 4/5 Good album.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Aug 13 2025

I had no idea about this 80s icon of an artist. The long-winded album is not bad as far as instrumental music goes. Compared to modern instrumental cinematic music, it does not hold a candle. It's not bad though, 3/5 meh

Medúlla by Björk
Aug 14 2025

Total experimental cappella album. Not for me, I could not finish 1/5

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Aug 15 2025

I honestly dont care for Elvis Costello's music in general. This is the 3rd album I've gotten from him. 2/5 Nothing interesting really, pretty basic
