First time listening to it. I quite liked the sound, though it didn't blow me away. It's a perfectly nice album
I always thought Depeche Mode sounded like a metal band name, until recently when I realized they weren't a metal band and that I, in fact, knew a few of their songs without knowing there were by them. This was my first time listening to an album of theirs and I really liked it. I found some songs I rlly rlly enjoyed and will return to
I didn't care for some of the songs, but when it's good it's really fucking good
My 5th album overall, and this is already my 2nd Bowie album (Hunky Dory was my 1st). I have to admit I've never listened to much Bowie, and I didn't even know this album existed before this. It's very different from Hunky Dory (which I gave 5 stars to), yet it's fucking brilliant too. It feels like the kind of album that I'll enjoy even more with repeated listens, which I fully intend to do. I don't know how many more Bowie albums are in this list, but I look forward to listening to them.
This was my first time listening to a jazz album. I loved it. At first listen I probably would've given it 4 stars but the more I listen the more it grows on me. I like how it can sound so dissonant yet be so engaging and simply beautiful at the same time. Fave: track C
Ok, I get it now
It goes on way too long, but it wasn't bad and there were songs I liked (Marley Purt Drive, Suddenly, Whisper Whisper). I don't think I'll be listening to the full album again.
This guy is really fucking good (who knew?)
Really fucking good, but maybe went on a bit too long. I probably would've given this 5 stars if it had fewer songs. I think it would've had more of an impact that way, but instead it kinda dragged on at one point
The vocals get really grating after a while. I'd like it better if they were less guttural and at least somewhat intelligible. Why even bother writing lyrics if no one's gonna understand shit? It's even more annoying because I looked up the lyrics and I actually liked them I don't know if I'll be returning to this album but I somewhat enjoyed listening to it (the music, not the damn vocals)
That album cover would look great on a shirt
Not much of it stood out to me and I don't think I'll be returning to it, but I liked it.
First time I listened to this it didn't even cross my mind to give it a 5. Now on my third full listen I'm kinda loving it? Idk who the guitarist is, but I love what he does on this record Favorites: "Prelude - Nothin' to Hide", "When I Touch You", "Street Worm"
Pleasant enough Favorites: "Red Eyes", "Suffering", "Eyes To The Wind"
It's fun, it's good. I specially liked the singer, she seems like such a badass with so much attitude. Favorites: "Precious", "Tattooed Love Boys", "Space Invader", "Private Life"
The best part about this is the concept. I love the idea of a soundtrack for an imaginary film, but I don't ever wanna listen to this one again. I don't think I get it. Maybe I'm just not big on soundtracks unless they're accompanied by films I enjoy.
I don't think I have ever willingly listened to ska before so I'm not too sure how to judge this, but I enjoyed it. I really liked the energy, though I could do without some of the songs, it felt like it dragged on a bit too long even if it wasn't a particularly long album.
Some songs stood out more than others, but I liked the whole album. It was more fun and energetic than I expected, though it did kinda start blending together at some point. Standouts: "Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town", "No Compassion" and "Psycho Killer"
I first listened to this while studying and it was fine enough as background music. On relisten, I'm halfway through and bored. Maybe this is here because it was innovative at the time, I don't know tbh, but it's mostly boring now. It's not offensively bad, but there's not much that stands out either. After finishing my second listen: oh God this is so long I couldn't wait for it to over so I could listen to something else. Also, the cover sucks
Was debating between 4 or 5, as I'd probably give it 4.5, but fuck it, it'll probably get to a 5 on further listens. And I'll definitely be listening again. Favorite track: Walk on By
It starts out really strong with the first few songs. I really liked the addition of the saxophone. I also wasn't expecting doo-wop, but I liked it. A lot of the songs feel like they drone on, but in a good way. Favorites: "The Wrong Way, "Staring at the Sun", "Ambulance"
I don't tend to listen to metal but this was great. It could probably go up to a 5 on repeated listens Favorites: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "Disposable Heroes", "Orion", "Damage, Inc"
A high-energy profanity-filled song about road rage? Fuck yeah love that shit It's really good but a bit too derivative of Nirvana. I kept thinking I'd rather listen to Nirvana Favorites: "Bad Habit", "Self esteem", "Come Out and Play"
I'm a sucker for indie rock Favorites: "Black Mirror", "Intervention", "Ocean of Noise", "My Body Is a Cage"
I liked the opener ("Down To The Waterline") and "Sultans of Swing" is a great song, but the rest was pretty forgettable. I liked it well enough, and none of the songs are bad, but they also aren't memorable
Definitely not what I was expecting based on the cover, but it was a pleasant surprise. This was a very solid album, full of bangers Favorites: "Leave Home", "In Dust We Trust", "Alive Alone"
I hadn't seen this album cover before but now I wanna crochet my own little orange guy. Very noisy and loud and good. I loved this. Kim's vocals are certainly something, but I think they fit the music. Favorites: "Swimwuit Issue", "Theresa's Sound-World", "Drunken Butterfly", "Sugar Kane", "JC", "Purr"
I watched Polyphonic's videos about this album on youtube and they were great, and also amazingly done. I've heard this album tons of times before, but it was a good way to find new things to enjoy about it
This wasn't bad, but it also wasn't won-three-Grammys-and-topped-the-charts kinda good. Favorites: "Thing Called Love", "Love Letter"
Good listening experience, but it didn't stand out enough to me to make me wanna return to it as a whole. Favorites: "Fuzzy", "Stars n' Stripes", "America Snoring"
I don't care for pirate music and sea shanties, but then also having that mixed with rock, ska, reggae?? It quickly turned annoying at some points, but then it also had some good moments so I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. Favorites: "I Remember When", "Dreaming of You", "Waiting for the Heartaches"
I'd never heard this one before, and I feel like I was a bit influenced by knowing it's one of the highest rated albums on here, but it's also really good, so what else can I do other than give it a 5? Favorites: "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", "Songbird", "The Chain", "Oh Daddy", "Gold Dust Woman", "Silver Springs" (should've been on the album)
Charming. Will I return to it? I don’t know, maybe not, but listening to this truly felt like getting a little treat
I think the lyrics are the standouts over the music, but I liked the music too and they go well together. Sometimes idk wtf he's going on about, but it works Favorites: "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry", "Brother, My Cup Is Empty", "Loom of the Land"
Lovely album. I may prefer The Shirelles's version of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" or Aretha's version of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", but I still love being able to listen to Carole King sing her own songs. And there are so many other beautiful tracks. What a brilliant songwriter. Bonus points for having the cat on the cover. Favorites: "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "Beautiful", "Way Over Yonder", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman"
If you're into this kind of music, this is probably pretty great. At times I got into it and really enjoyed it, but most of it just didn't really click with me and I got bored about halfway through. Favorites: "Roadhouse Blues", "Peace Frog", "The Spy"
First time listening to a full Temptations album. I loved this one. Some of the songs are perhaps not too memorable, and I wouldn't seek them out, but I liked the album as a whole. I especially loved the funky and more upbeat songs Favorites: "Cloud Nine", "Runaway Child, Running Wild"
The cover feels like Dion is staring right into my soul while I unfortunately have to tell him I didn't like the album
This album was so much fun. Had a great time doing the dishes and tidying up today Favorites: "Chic Cheer", "Le Freak", "Savoir Faire", "I Want Your Love"
I don’t think I can put into words what exactly about this album is so compelling to me, but I loved it. It just has a certain charm to it Favorites: “Vicious”, “Perfect Day”, “Hangin’ Round”, “Walk On The Wild Side”, “Make Up”, “Satellite of Love”
I'm not usually a fan of folk, but I loved this. It felt warm and put me in a good mood. The guitar playing was definitely the stand out for me Favorites: "Smokey River", "I Have No Time", "Needle of Death", "Casbah", "Angie"
Very chill, great vibes Favorites: "Sexy Boy", "Talisman", "Ce matin-là", "Le voyage de Pénélope"
I don’t know enough about jazz to fully appreciate this like others do Favorites: “So What”, “Freddie Freeloader”
I liked Cry Me a River, and I didn't care about any other song enough to remember them
This benefits a lot from being a live recording. It's rough and loud and chaotic, very high-energy. It makes me want to be there Favorites: "Ramblin' Rose", "Kick Out The Jams", "Rocket Reducer", "Motor City Is Burning"
I don't know enough to be able to appreciate the odd time signatures and technical stuff, but this was great nonetheless. Favorites: "Blue Rondo à la Turk", "Take Five", "Kathy's Waltz"
I'd never listened to TV On The Radio before doing this and this is the second album of theirs I've gotten. Their music is a great combination of good sound and lyrics Favorites: "Crying", "Dancing Choose”, “Golden Age”,, “Family Tree", “DLZ”
Apparently the tracklist listed on the book is the vinyl tracklist, which is different from the 1990 CD tracklist, which is also different from the newer 1991 USA tracklist (which is also the one on Spotify)? I was gonna give it a 3 mainly because it's too long and filled with fluff, but considering the vinyl tracklist I guess I'm changing it to a 4 Favorites: "Omega Amigo", "Hyperreal Orbit", "Make It Mine", "666 Edit"
Suite II is sooooo good. This is hell of a debut album Favorites: "Dance or Die", "Locked Inside", "Cold War", "Tightrope", "Oh, Maker", "Come Alive (War of the Roses)", "Mushrooms & Roses"
It sounds simultaneously trippy, unsettling, otherworldly, ethereal, beautiful. The vocals fit the music so fucking well. I wouldn't have thought jazz inspired music combined with hip hot beats would sound this good, but it does. What an experience. Favorites: "Sour Times", "Strangers", "Roads", "Pedestal", "Glory Box"
I remember trying to get into Bowie and listening to this years ago, but it just didn't click for me then. Listening to it now, I felt like I was doing so for the first time. It's my third Bowie album and I can officially say I'm a fan. It's fun, grand, and weird, with great lyrics. The opener is absolutely amazing, the closer is too, and it's just an all around great album. Favorites: "Five Years", "Moonage Daydream", "Starman", "Hang on to Yourself", "Ziggy Stardust", "Suffragette City", "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"
Pretty music, good lyrics Favorites: "Son Of Sam", "Junk Bond Trader", "Everything Means Nothing To Me", "L.A."
Groovy, feel-good funk. Loved it. Favorites: "Stand!", "I Want to Take You Higher", "Everyday People", "Sex Machine"
Solid album. I thought the weird, sometimes nonsensical, lyrics were fun. Even without knowing beforehand that they inspired Nirvana, I could hear it here. Favorites: "Velouria", "Is She Weird", "Ana", "The Happening"
I liked the opening track, then was disappointed when I realized it's the best song on the album. Favorites: "Squares", "Al Sharp", "Eclipse"
It's not something I'd choose to listen to, but I also wouldn't mind if somebody else put it on. Favorites: "God Put a Smile upon Your Face", "The Scientist", "A Rush of Blood to the Head"
This was an interesting album. Folk songs with a medieval vibe and some psychedelic rock mixed in. The vocalist truly sells the songs and was a highlight for me Favorites: "Farewell, Farewell", "Tam Lin", "Crazy Man Michael"
I listened to the tracklist listed on Wikipedia and that was enough for me. It would be a great show to see live, but I don't really care for it as an album. Favorites: "Summertime Blues", "My Generation / Medley"
Lovely, soothing voice. I’m between a 3 and a 4, but honestly a lot of the songs didn’t do much for me. Favorites: “Between The Bars”, “Pictures Of Me”, “Angeles”, “Cupid’s Trick”
I was simultaneously charmed and annoyed by this album. There's some high points and songs I enjoyed. I think the spoken word bits and rambling conversations work sometimes, but then they become annoying once they go on too long. The music gets too repetitive and the songs are too long. Favorites: "Knowledge Of Beauty", "The Waltz"
Banger after banger after banger
I came in with no expectations at all and was blown away by the first few songs. I specially liked the instrumentation, the fiddle is great. The second half didn't interest me as much, but it was still good. Favorites: "Fisherman's Blues", "We Will Not Be Lovers", "World Party", "When Will We Be Married"
I was really excited to listen to this based on the wikipedia description and the cover, and it did not disappoint. I liked the vocals. They go from frantic, haunted and shrieking to whispered and soft. The bass was another standout for me. Favorites: "Call Me", "Green", "Hate My Way", "Rabbits Dying", "Stand Up", "Delicate Cutters"
She has a beautiful voice, but most of the music itself didn't make me feel much. It feels safe and a bit boring. Favorites: "Hello", "When We Were Young", "River Lea"
Concise, very solid album. I enjoyed every single song. All the instruments work together perfectly and I specially liked the guitar work Favorites: "The Modern Age", "Barely Legal", "Someday", "Last Nite", "Hard To Explain"
Beautiful combination of sounds. I liked it a lot. I agree with whoever said this would be good cooking music Favorites: "Tropicália", "Clarice", "Alegria, Alegria", "Paisagem Útil"
This was my first time listening to Kate Bush besides the Stranger Things song (can't remember the name). The music was lush and grandiose, and she has a very ethereal and beautiful voice. Some of the songs didn't really click for me, but I loved others. I don't think I'll be returning to the album as a whole though. Favorites: "Reaching Out", "Rocket's Tail", "This Woman's Work"
Damn, the energy in this is electric. Loved the piano. Most songs sound the same though, so it gets a bit repetitive. At least the Spotify version is only 22 minutes long. Favorites: "Money", "Your Cheating Heart", "Long, Tall Sally"
The bass is the best part of the album by far, it truly helps save the whole thing. I like the droning, repetitive, and oppressive sound of the music, really creates an atmosphere. The worst part was definitely the vocals, I just wish the dude would shut up so I could listen to the music. Favorites: "Albatross", "Poptones", "Careering"
I'm not used to listening to 90s rap so this might just not be my kind of music. As an album, it's too long and so many songs were indistinguishable to me, it got a little repetitive. I liked the beats and the rapping was good though Favorites: "Criminology", "Guillotine", "Verbal Intercourse", "Ice Cream", "Wu-Gambinos"
Standard 60s pop rock, but I like 60s pop rock and this is pretty fun. It has some good moments, but also some really forgettable songs. "Little Girl in the 4th Row" reminds me of that awful "Go Away Little Girl" song. What was it with men referring to women as little girls back then? Favorites: "Kicks", "Ballad of a Useless Man", "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone", "Louie, Go Home"
Sonically beautiful. The strings are great. I'm also fascinated by her lyrics, they feel very sincere and raw. I wasn't expecting this to be such a vulnerable and emotional album
