Searching For The Young Soul Rebels
Dexys Midnight RunnersThis is pretty insufferable. When I started to think they might have something musically, the whiny vocals would kick in and ruin it.

Cars are Cars is one of the most painfully stupid songs I’ve ever heard in my life.
I gave it a shot but I’ve never understood the hype around The Streets. It’s just…men who can’t sing, talking.
Not my usual type of music, the beats are a little monotonous. But I see why it’s considered good. Not an album I would choose to listen to again. No songs added to my favourites.
Great classic rock sound. Not sure it’s one I would revisit but if it was on I wouldn’t turn it off and would bop around to it. Felt like the beginning was stronger and it got a little monotonous by the end.
The music is really great but the vocals and lyrics are utterly forgettable. I can see how the sound would be really influential though. It’s more chill and relaxing than I thought it would be.
Whilst the album is quintessentially 80s, Peter Gabriel has a voice that is able to transcend the era in a way some artists don’t. The album could use some editing though, songs that go on far too long. I get creating an atmosphere, but it gets boring after a while.
Ella Fitzgerald’s voice is stunning but I did not have time to listen to 5 albums. Nor do I think it’s necessary to.
Beautiful voice, but I’ve never been one for Live albums. Crowd noise and tittering just takes me out of the music. Although it was nice to hear her humour.
Capable of writing some of the most iconic songs throughout history but my god the vocals are mostly trash.
It feels like so many things went right and so many went wrong. Lovely voice, a band that can play well. The songs themselves are more often than not just too dreary and dull. Why Does It Always Rain On Me? is a classic though.
I feel like despite her successful career Missy Elliott is still somewhat underrated. This was a fun album to walk to, although I did get a little bored towards the end.
I’m not really one for the grunge style but I can’t deny how talented they were. And thank god there’s a eclectic mix of songs on the album and that everything doesn’t sound the same.
This is genuinely insufferable drivel. I don’t know who likes this kind of music but it’s certainly not for me. It’s just chaotic noise that doesn’t go anywhere.
Stereotypically 80s sounding but without any discernible hit, just extremely forgettable and lack of talent for song-writing.
Some interesting sounds being created here although I’d trim a lot of the songs because they get too repetitive. I understand that’s kind of a trademark of the genre though. Not the kind of music I tend to go for.
I think the singles and image they portrayed back in the day led the general public to think they were a lot edgier and experimental than they actually were. This album was surprisingly mundane, although it did get better as it went on.
Cars are Cars is one of the most painfully stupid songs I’ve ever heard in my life.
This was surprisingly chill, had it on in the background and never really found anything affronting or annoying about it. Probably wouldn’t come back to it, but a perfectly fine album.
Wow. I’ve never listened to Nick Drake before and I guess that’s on me. This is absolutely beautiful. It’s so sad to read about his life and struggles. If he’d been born in a more recent time he would’ve undoubtedly reached higher fame, though I’m not sure that would’ve ultimately made him any happier. Just an extraordinary talent.
Not enough variety in the instrumental for my taste. Though Michael Stipe has an incredibly unique voice.
This is pretty insufferable. When I started to think they might have something musically, the whiny vocals would kick in and ruin it.
For the sake of trying to separate art from the artist, I did actually find this album mildly enjoyable. But I must mention that Clapton is a real pos and shouldn’t be glorified the way he is in the music industry.
A wonderful album and display of talent. The only thing stopping me giving it a 5 is that it’s not really my personal style and I probably wouldn’t revisit it very often.
Alright is such a classic, just top tier song. The rest of the album doesn’t live up to how good that one is, but it’s not bad either.
This was more enjoyable than I expected, not usually my type of music but it wasn’t as heavy as I’d thought it would be. Will probably revisit in the future.
This was not interesting at all to me. Every song started to sound the same, and I’m not gonna remember what any of it sounded like in a day or two.
Started off with some interesting musical choices, not really for me but I could see how it would have its merits. But as the songs got longer I just got inpatient, far too indulgent.
A little bit too dreary in places but it really grew on me. Some excellant song composition on this album. I love Black.
Just not really my style. A lack of dynamism in lyrical quality and all kind of same-y.
I’m so conflicted with Simon and Garfunkel. Some songs really stand the test of time of incredible songwriting, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, The Boxer. But then others just sound very dated and I would never choose to listen to them again.
I just don’t really get it. This doesn’t really have any redeeming qualities to me.
God this was a real slog. Vocals so nasally they were sometimes akin to a slowly deflating balloon. The novelty of the harmonica wore off real fast, it’s a fine instrument to introduce but every damn song? Absolutely unnecessary. I already don’t like live albums and this was painful to work through. I gather the second half is better with the introduction of a band but by the time I got to the end of the first my patience had worn out.
I really wanted to like this more than I did. I just never really connected with it.
The hits are extraordinary, some of the others were just a little more on the dull side and that stopped me from giving it that full 5. But god, no one sounds like Frank, do they?
So this definitely isn’t my kind of thing but I’ve truly never heard anything like it and it does seem well composed. I have to give it credit even if I’ll never listen to it again.
This was so much fun to listen to, something I probably never would’ve found without this list.
It feels like the vocals were somewhat better than Sgt Pepper, but the hits were fewer and further between. Mildly enjoyable.
Despite this definitely not being my type of music, I found it to be really well composed and formulated. I’m not sure if I’ll revisit the album as a whole, but I might come back to one or two songs.
Like some of the other albums in this collection, this just feels very indulgent. I don’t know that it contributes anything particularly special or leaves much impression. Surely there are better albums that could’ve been included.
Can I Kick It is awesome, but the rest of the album just doesn’t feed into my personal tastes no matter how much I try.
Early Coldplay were really just so good. This is a fantastic album, I can’t give it a full five because I don’t love all of it, but very solid.
I want to love Joni Mitchell’s music, sadly I just don’t most of the time. It’s more like poetry set to music than good song-writing. She’s very talented, it’s just not very catchy. River is beautiful though.
It was a fine experience to listen to, very quintessentially 80s. Not sure I’d choose to revisit it though.
I hadn’t heard most of these Queen songs and I was kind of excited to discover them. And they sound like Queen, good musicality, good vocals, but very little memorability sadly. Guess there’s a reason why most of these weren’t hits.
Never heard of The Bees before today, and I’m at war with what I think of this album. Some of it is pretty forgettable, some of the vocals are subpar, but A Minha Menina was really good, This Town wasn’t bad. It doesn’t seem like it quite knows what it’s supposed to be. Just about a 3, I think.
Really excellent album, thoroughly enjoyable. I think this becomes an acquired taste with age because I was never into listening to them when I was younger.
Better than the last Bob Dylan album I got, but he’s still not someone I would choose to listen to as his voice just isn’t that appealing. The album as a whole was fine though.
I’ve always loved White Horses. I can see their talent but the music is just sometimes a tad on the messy side taking away some of the enjoyability.
Madness undoubtedly have an iconic sound, however, completely insufferable to listen to as a full album. They are a band that’s made for random singles, they don’t have much to offer in large doses.
This was so interesting and such an inspired project for the musicians to undertake. Mostly enjoyable, though the second half doesn’t quite live up to the first. I would love more bands and artists to collaborate in this style together.
One of the better live albums I’ve gotten, and yes he’s talented, but also a horrific person so I refuse to give it more than a 3.
Just not my style really.
The music is fine but it’s just not very catch for me.
Hendrix was an extraordinary musical talent, although the songs aren’t as catchy as I’d hope them to be
Really interesting and enjoyable album, my only critique is that some songs are a little repetitive
Sadly this is almost unlistenable to me, it’s everything I don’t want in the music I listen to.
I dread to think how many people were conceived to this album haha. It’s fine, a classic, but not one I would really come back to.
Interesting music but the songs are just far too long. I get creating an ambiance but 4 songs should not last almost an hour.
Just not my kind of music, unappealing vocals and some repetitive music
I originally thought I wasn’t going to like this, his voice got so deep and took on an almost creep tonality. However the further in I got, the more comforting his voice came across.
Not quite as interesting as the other Leonard Cohen album I had. Some of the music is a little repetitive.
I almost thought this might finally be another 5* for me but sadly it didn’t live up to the beginning as it went on. Enjoyable though, great music for its time, surprised I’ve never heard of them before.
Great message and thoughtfulness to this album, although the style of it doesn’t appeal to my personal tastes.
I could definitely see it’s merits although I could’ve done without the extra ambient sounds added in there.
Really great album, got a little same-y sometimes but then was able to get me back again.
Absolutely gorgeous album by one of the most talented bands of all time.
Mostly enjoyable, a great vibe, although some of the songs are a little musically repetitive.
I don’t know what I expected The Flaming Lips to sound like but it wasn’t really this. Vocalist much whinier than I expected. It was fine, but nothing particularly special.
I still just can’t get to grips with Joni Mitchell. I understand her talent, but it still just doesn’t feel like good song composition to me.
This was a great experience to listen to, very interesting music being created.
Other than Superstition, I thought this was a little mid sadly. I’ve always found You Are the Sunshine of My Life to be too saccharine, and the other songs didn’t leave much impression on me.
Started out so strong but then you came back here due to absoluteboredom
Some interesting sounds here for sure, sounds so quintessentially 80s. Not sure I’d revisit it though.
This sadly didn’t appeal to me at all
For a live album this is very well produced
Musically good and legendary although not quite to my taste
I can see the appeal, it just doesn’t appeal to me
This is completely unappealing to me, so just don’t see it
It’s fine, not particularly to my taste, but it’s good for what it is.
A very conflicting album. I didn’t mind the dreary emo style songs, but I wasn’t a fan of the messy punk/ska/metal influenced ones.
A fine album, though I don’t think it’s going to leave any lasting impression on me.
Didn’t really capture my attention
I can see why it’s great, I just personally didn’t enjoy it too much
Not a fan
I’ll give it a 4 for the stand-out tracks I’ve heard before, but it’s not an album I’d choose to listen to in its entirety because it’s just too all-American for my taste.
If it wasn’t for ‘Every Breath You Take, this would’ve been a 1, and that song is creepy but at least it’s good. If I ever have to hear ‘Mother’ again I might scream.
I gave it a shot but I’ve never understood the hype around The Streets. It’s just…men who can’t sing, talking.
Again, not my style of music. This doesn’t do anything for me.
Not really my style but it wasn’t bad to listen to.
It was fine, probably not one I’d revisit though.
Not really going to leave an impression on me.
I tried but it’s just not really my style of music, I’m sure it’s very popular with some people
Not really my style although I recognised Somebody Who Loves You, I think from Only Fools and Horses. A fine album, but not one I’d be actively revisiting.
It was fine, but not something I’d revisit.
A quintessentially 80s sound that doesn’t really progress too far past that decade. Not awful by any means, just a specific sound and not one I would really come back to.
