the blue nile are a very special band to me so i am overjoyed to start this project with this album. the breakdown of tinseltown in the rain has to be one of my favourite pieces of music possibly ever and it has been so interesting to see how it fits into the context of the rest of the album. They just have the most beautiful, distinctive sound and we have not heard anything quite like it since. Marvellous. I love Glasgow and I love Glasweigian artists.
I wasn't as struck by this, though I appreciate that for a debut album it is remarkable. I think it is an excellent album, just is not to my personal taste.
Just an absolute magnum opus. One of the most stunning albums, so well done.
This one surprised me! I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. While there were some misses - I didn't love 'On any other day' - and while the transitions were a bit messy, for the most part it was very pleasant, distinctive, pop music
This is not my usual kind of music, but is undeniably brilliant and it's influence across much of the music that has been released since is evident. Did enjoy this actually, very very cool. Very nice to study to.
i just did not vibe with this one and also it did just go on and on
unfortunately i did not dig this at all. two flops in a row. sad!
unironically i had a phase where i was completely obsessed with this album, and i can only imagine how impactful this would have been at the time of release. i loved this. i appreciate that i am not the target audience, being white and middle class and from rural ireland, but god this is excellent.
my problematic fave. look, i know that he was not a good guy ok, and some of these lyrics - i am looking at you 'jealous guy' - are just awful.
despite the fact, this album is a bit of an all time greatest and i continue to be very impressed by it. sorry everyone.
this is a brilliant album - can't believe i'd never listened to it the whole way through before. made my little indie heart very happy
this is not my usual kind of music (and i listen to everything) - but the aesthetics are undeniably very cool and it did fit my current finals hellscape mindset. titular track was fantastic, definitely the highlight for me. good show.
a mix of some absolutely brilliant songs and some totally awful ones. not overly impressed with it as an album but still grateful to have discovered some of the songs
this was so good!! i love the pixies but i hardly knew any of this album before today. very brilliant.
i love glasgow i wish it was real. to be honest though, was overjoyed to see this album today when i am a long time primal scream appreciator and with 13 days to finals i really need the radical optimism of 'movin on up' to start the day
this is THE pixies album - such a treat for the ears, their sound is just remarkable and it has been so interesting to hear this album with the fresh perspective into the development of their sound from their earlier work. bigly enjoyed.
this is an interesting album, definitely didn't hate it. some excellent songs, maybe not an album i'll come back to but certainly will come back to some of the songs.
too chill for me, unfortunately i am too into lyrics and synthesisers to be able to fully appreciate this
Honestly absolutely no notes. This album is just perfect. Stunning. Socially cohesive. Socially relevant and self-aware. Fascinating to listen to in 2025 and realise the same discontent and dissaffection literally still exists today (and is actally maybe even worse. Goosebumps. Probably my favourite album so far.
this was magical. funkadelic are one of my favourite discoveries of this year. wish id discovered them earlier.
This was fun and I did enjoy it. I could tell instantly how influential this album has been for songwriting in the years and decades that followed it, with it's residual influence still heard today. The only drawback for me was how 'samey' the songs sounded, with the formulaic production and writing style making them all blend together a little. Love Buddy Holly's voice though, such a shame he died so young.
this was just brilliant. succinct. marvellous. rest in peace brian wilson we will never look upon your like again.
ABBA in 1976 were incapable of making a bad song it would seem. pop music at its very best.
i do think this is really cool and i saw and enjoyed what they were trying to do with it. i think i am just not in the headspace for this right at this moment but it is definitely one i will revisit i think.
I have always been intimidated by David Bowie's albums, even though I love many of the individual songs on this album. This exceeded my already high expectations, it didn't feel like there was a note misplaced, and sandwiching such a sonic experience in between Young Americans the song and Fame was just perfection. Loved this.
this was just excellent music, very much enjoyed it. can't believe how late to the party i am with Santana.
im surprised i didn't stumble across this one sooner, with my penchant for sad girls. very interesting, very 90s. i didn't dislike it.
just not my kind of music i think
actually really enjoyed the music, didnt enjoy the misogyny, but most of the other identity related themes were well explored and musically it was so tight
girl who is about to get way too in to nick drake (i loved this)
this is another one of these pretty brilliant pop albums, again, regrettable about the artist.
really enjoyed this, the production is so distinctive and songs like 'the way you make me feel' just feel like pure joy and remind me of my childhood in a big way weirdly (i was born in 2001)
this was just brilliant, and i will forever feel grateful for getting to see billy bragg live last year. there is power in a union made me cry, hadnt listened to any of his full albums until now but he is a poignant and striking songwriter and this album felt especially relevant today.
can't believe it's taken me so long to sincerely listen to Radiohead, because this is just beautiful. devastating and brilliant. everything i love in a record.
i love sheffield i wish it was real. open your heart was a highlight for me.
she has a fab voice and this was a nice compact album but i fear it is not for me
i thought this was cool. can hear the influence of this on albums that came later, even if i don’t love his voice i sure do love guitars
i think this is my favourite album of radiohead's. it is really fantastic and so clever, and has aged so well.
controversial maybe but i did enjoy this one
this was really well timed as i have been in a glastonbury inspired pulp haze recently. did really enjoy this.
love kate bush this was great
didn't hate this but didn't think it was especially interesting, wish i hadn't looked up the band
thank you to the meat loaf episode of glee i had no idea how much of this album i actually knew. actually thought this was quite good, big fan of meat loaf's work in rocky horror. don't know if this is one i'd listen to in my free time but it's objectively very brilliant for what it is.
this was really brilliant i enjoyed it a lot
this is incredibly cool. disco is so back.
i didn’t hate it ! i just sort of thought it was a bit background music-y. i can see why people rave about this tho, i can see its influence
i think i have listened to more Creedence Clearwater Revival on this experiment than i ever intended to. Not bad at all, just not me
appreciated a nice short album for a Saturday. otherwise, again, not my favourite. sort of vague, innoffensive 70s music
this was sensational sunday listening
really enjoyed this one. was surprised by not knowing any of the songs as I have long considered myself a fan.
don’t think this one was for me
really enjoyed this one even though its long and i am not a prog rock girlie. u know i love a concept album
just ok i think. police and thieves is my favourite the clash song but the rest sort of blended together
i just dont think i like his voice :(
the first act of this is some of adele’s best. i think this is both Not how i’m feeling as 25 approaches, and Not what i needed today as i am feeling sad at the moment
this was unreal. genuinely loved it. never usually listen to this kind of thing, but always enjoy it when i do
this was not my thing i fear.
undeniably very cool and very good for what it is. i was always very scared of siouxie as a kid
i absolutely love blondie and this album is probably my favourite of theirs, gets lost a little in the middle third. heart of glass and sunday girl are highlights
a stunning debut fiona apple i love you
i thought this would be crap but courtney love is actually class lowk
enjoyed this more than i thought i would to be fair
5 stars no notes. ian curtis saved my life at 17 and this album hits just as hard today.
i had high expectations of this album from when i saw it was matty healy's favourite album, and to be fair it did live up to those expectations. LOVED the surprise kate bush feature. didn't love all of it but i thought it was mostly brilliant and super well produced.
wouldve been improved with even more run dmc features imo
This was really very beautiful. I despise the song 'Danny Boy,' but aside from that it was flawless and very poignant. A dying artist's reflection on his own death. I thought the version of 'We Meet Again' was lovely. Very moving
WHERE WAS THIS ONE WHEN I WAS STUDYING FOR FINALS 1001 ALBUM GENERATOR
this is a hot take from me because i do appreciate it is brilliant for what it is but i just couldn't get into it. i still give it four out of five because ms hill was such a trailblazer.
it sure was ambient. i think i get the hype
just wasn’t for me i fear
