I like the term "sparse and threatening" from the Spotify bio. Seems fitting. Made me think aboug how deep the hip-hop and martial art dovetailing goes. Easy to think that Boondocks (show) did it first.
Sometimes literally preachy but whatever. I'm sure it fit the times. I can see why about half of it has been sampled though.
Know it well and love it. Feels like a haunted nap
Love it. Surprised at the lack of coverage on Wikipedia, given MJ Cole's apparent influence on tons of dance and pop music (as evidenced by a few listens). I'll keep this one around.
I can see the through line to Alanis, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, etc. Hard to groove to but rewards multiple listens. Turning the songs over like entymologist's prizes.
What can I say. I love a dance album.
Experimental, psych-y, didn't really get it until the last track "Revelation." I'll probably put that in a playlist, although I'm not sure which yet.
Like the songs that I already knew pretty meh about the songs I didn't. Hard to pin down the chicken and egg scenario
Some funky ones in there. Wtf is the Little 15 song? I can see the dance & pop power in this album as a whole, though. Also the more I listen to DM the more "Your Clown" by Eiffel 65 was clearly inspired by them.
Saving this to put on in the background. Somehow I'd never heard of these guys. It's hard to pinpoint something specifically influential about them, but I guess I'll see why they made the cut someday. Looking forward to more albums like these. I like the intro track as its own thing.
