Popular Reviews

With The Beatles by Beatles

At first felt too sock-hop for me, then I really enjoyed the middle third, then it started to feel hokey again. 3.5 rounded up. EDIT: I just learned all the songs I liked the most on this album are covers. Downgrading from 3.5 to 2.5, and rounding down.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra

I’m glad people in the 50s liked this, but I in 2025 just do not have that gene

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Jul 21 2025

A few classics on here — keep the car running, no cars go, my body is a cage. but the middle kind of drags. Their next album The Suburbs is better, made me just want to listen to that one

Stankonia by OutKast
Jul 22 2025

a veritable cornerstone of any self-respecting millennial middle schooler’s cd collection

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Jul 23 2025

Not sure how to rate this one. Good for what it is but not something I really enjoy listening to?

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

RIP ozzy!

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Jul 28 2025

just not my cup of tea. very frenetic/shaky, the whole album made me anxious except the last track. struggling to separate it from modern contexts where it has been co-opted like burlesque dance, cartoons, film noir, dance classes I took as a kid. this is one where maybe you just had to be there

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Jul 29 2025

3.5 but I’ll round up. Hokey at times which takes me out of it. “Let me roll it” weighted the score higher, far and away the best song on the album.

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Jul 30 2025

A couple hits but mostly filler… nothing memorable

Elephant by The White Stripes
Aug 01 2025

good album, was fun to return to it after many years

The White Album by Beatles
Aug 04 2025

Some good songs but overall album needed editing. Too long and too much carnival music

Pelican West by Haircut 100
Aug 06 2025

if talking heads and a less melancholy tears for fears had a baby it would be this band. bit too heavy on the horns though, gets repetitive

not bad but probably won’t ever revisit

Opus Dei by Laibach
Aug 08 2025

Wanted to love this one more but Beck’s other works call to me more. 2.5 rounded up… I could take it or leave it with the exception of devils haircut, always a banger

Aug 19 2025

Tago Mago by Can
Aug 20 2025

I heard so much Radiohead in this and I’m not mad about it

Aug 21 2025

Holy cow. I don’t remember this album being this killer!? Refreshingly un self conscious. Badass energetic riffs. Unrelenting pace. Fucked up lyrics for all the right reasons. Also now painfully aware of the obvious influence they had on billie joe armstrong. Never was big on green day but now I know why… they were just trying to be this. Unhinged Elvis cover to close it out clinched it for me. 5 knuckle sandwiches 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Aug 22 2025

A crooked, slurred, meandering funhouse journey. The soundtrack of motion sickness. Perhaps one too many dings and clangs for my taste, but I respect the artistic vision.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Aug 25 2025

Coffee shop music. Fades into the background for me. Gets repetitive. Very long album. 2.5 rounded to 3

Bone Machine by Tom Waits

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Sep 09 2025

I guess you had to be there. Also, knowing she had a blackface “alter ego” and continuously defended it kinda ruins the vibe for me

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Sep 10 2025

I liked this. It was a fun ride and could see myself listening again. I don’t know much about this genre but appreciated the opportunity to learn

Trio by Dolly Parton

Deec. 2.5. Kinda boring.

Sep 12 2025

Never heard of this band/album before, and didn’t know what to expect. Certainly never saw noise rock coming! Every so often in college I would find myself at a friend-of-a-friend’s experimental noise show. It was always in some forgotten room of an industrial building with cement floors, the smell of PBR and BO wafting through the stale air. Some rich kids with greasy hair and threadbare undershirts would fuck around with pedals and amps and synths and there would be cables running everywhere and the sound of fuzzy crumpled paper and dial-up aol static harassing my ear drums at unreasonable volume. I didn’t get it. Why? Where did this come from? Am I supposed to like this? Does everyone else here like this? Is this music? I would ask myself. This album explains SO MUCH, and that experience I now understand to be very of its time. Probably will never listen again, but 3 for the millennial college nostalgia, introducing me to the most listenable example of the genre I’ve ever heard, and serving as an actually not terrible workout playlist at the gym.

Moon Safari by Air
Sep 15 2025

Sexy boy will always be a banger, but listening to this album I realized why that was the only song I knew from it. The rest feels forgettable. Ok background music. 2.5

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Sep 16 2025

I’m glad people in the 50s liked this, but I in 2025 just do not have that gene

Van Halen by Van Halen
Sep 17 2025

A handful of catchy licks but not much going on here

Scum by Napalm Death
Sep 18 2025
The Stranger by Billy Joel
Sep 22 2025

I enjoyed this sentimental nonsense more than I’d like to admit

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Sep 23 2025

In the words of an indie rock redditor: “Boomers have Sweet Caroline, Gen X has Don't Stop Believing, and Millennials have Mr. Brightside.” This album is front loaded with hits. While Brightside proved to be most enduring, it was fun to revisit the others, especially All These Things That I’ve Done. Loses its steam toward the very end, especially the last song, but overall highly listenable. Plays a bit dated now but can’t deny the defining sound of the early aughts. 4.5 rounded up.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Sep 30 2025

It’s fine. A few bops.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Oct 01 2025

I have conflicting feelings about this album. At the bookstore I worked at in college, they’d play it multiple times a day. Listening to it now, I realize they were skipping the all the lengthy/self-indulgent/unlistenable/drug-fueled chaotic parts. There’s a vocal affectation of this era that I really can’t stand, that I can only describe as a vocal shrug 🤷‍♀️. It immediately turns me off when I hear it but for some reason I mostly forgive it for Lou Reed. Can’t say why. Nico’s distinctive vocals do a lot of heavy lifting. Overall I love the vibe of this album but at its worst moments it’s completely unlistenable. High highs and low lows. 3.5/5.
