The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Aug 26 2025

Sparse and literate...conveys intense emotional weight with music that serves the narratives contained within. As such, not for everyone as it will take a modicum of emotional maturity to enjoy. But if you are that wandering soul who longs for connection in a world that provides few opportunities, this is your record.

Aja by Steely Dan
Aug 28 2025

I had already listened to this album hundreds of times, but upon coming up on this list enthusiastically put on my headphones again. Not only is it their most "grown-up" album thematically, they had to enlist over 40 studio hammers because Fagen and Becker, literally, could not play everything they were writing. An astonishing record that laments a generation progressing into adulthood, and not exactly kicking and screaming...but rather with an acceptance of their fate.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Aug 29 2025

For a five year period in the 80s, every college kid in America played 5 songs on this album, and ignored the other 5. The other 5 make me not go back to it on the regular. Good...not great.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Oct 03 2025

Very good record that was an integral part of my youth. Didn't have any single song that was the equal of "Spirit of Radio" (nor does anyone else), but showed how ready they were to depart on a new journey that was heavily influenced by the Police. The last record of their golden era before they became covered in synths.
