Fav song: electric renaissance
I don’t love the singer’s voice tbh. The instrumentation itself is good but not insanely good. Like a cross between Wilco, panchiko, and built to spill if they were all less good. I pinkie swear these reviews will be more detailed later..
sort of hit or miss for me but the best songs are sooo good. Pretty basic but my favs are walk on the wild side and perfect day. These are actually accurate unlike the belle and Sebastian album 😭
The overall sound is really fun and nice to listen to, but the songs kind of blend together. Fav: memories can’t wait
Really fun album, fav was probably ogre battle, lowkey forgot the rest of my review cause I forgot to write it down..
Not really my type of music tbh. The guitar is insane but it doesn’t sound that complex. Like ik it’s really hard to play it just doesn’t sound that cool 😭 the songs don’t have enough dimension or emotion for me. Fav song: walk all over you
I honestly really enjoyed listening to this. It reminds me of no doubt/pulp but with more new wave. Also i loveee the vocals. Didn’t have a specific favorite the album sort of feels like one big song maybe All-Nighter?
I love this album - the samples are insanely good and I love how they switch off with the crazy amount of synth. There are better Kanye albums though..fav songs: on sight, new slaves
this album is ok and kind of fun but I just didn’t like its sound that much. It’s like a more energetic Lou reed. Also the album cover mildly creeps me out (sorry iggy). turn blue is pretty weird but it might be my fav song instrumentally
This album was super fun to listen but I agree with Asa it sort of just feels like a compilation of random songs. Favs: a message to you Rudy, blank expression. Fun change of pace 😛
The jump from Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream to Mr. Tambourine Man feels a little steep. The album is so like jingly and jangly lmao. I like the rhythm and pacing of most songs a lot. Fav songs: She Belongs to Me, Mr. Tambourine Man
the lead singers voice on Ramblin’ rose was lowkey unbearable 😭 fav song: kick out the jams. This album honestly sounds way more modern than I expected - i would’ve probably guessed it was a decade more recent. It’s definitely not bad just also not as good as most albums on here. The fact that it’s live is kind of fun. Also the Jeff Buckley cover of kick out the jams is cool.
oh my god little guy inside the generator who chooses the albums give me another harmonica-y album I dare you 😾 ngl I was a little bored by this album. It was okay and not bad but not something I’ll probably ever think about again. Also I wish the guitar was just a little louder 😭 fav song: Johnny 99 maybe?
I liked this album generally but I’m just not the biggest fan of prog rock. The futuristic theme was cool and I thought this album was like the perfect length. Fav song: the first track starting at minute 16 (idk which song it is 😭)
I feel a little stupid listening to this album because I don’t think a teenage girl was their intended audience lmao. I loved this album a lot and I can def see how it belongs on this list, especially considering how influential it was. Ask miller about what he thinks abt this group. Fav song: super hard to choose but maybe fuck tha police or gangsta gangsta
I like how upbeat this album is but it gets slightly boring after a little while. Fav songs: locked inside, sir greendown, oh, maker. Kind of too long imo. Individually though each song on its own is really fun and interesting.
This album feels like eating an entire tray of different Costco samples. Even though they’re pretty simple, I love the vocals. Incredibly creative songs titles lmao. It’s actually insane to me how an album can be this long and I don’t get bored of it. Each song was really enjoyable and at no point was i waiting for this to be over, which is crazy for an almost three hour long album. Fav songs: I don’t want to get over you, sweet-lovin man, love in the shadows
I loved thiss. All of the flows and lyrics were cool. Each track felt really different from the last one which is awesome bc I’ve listened to some hip hop where all the flows are really similar. Theres honestly nothing I don’t like about this album. Fav song: title track, execution of a chump
Ok first off I don’t think compilations should be on the list. Anyways I feel like I might just be biased because garage rock isn’t really my thing but I was pretty bored during this. There are some cool riffs here and there but everything else sort of feels noisy and mildly overdone by the end of the album. I didn’t hate this but I probably wouldn’t listen to it again. Fav songs: hate to say I told you so, the hives are law, you are the crime
This is definitely not bad but there is wayy better Fleetwood Mac. The slow songs on this album felt kind of too slow and the energetic ones felt too energetic. Even from the start, the jump from the 1st to 2nd track is not very smooth. Overall it’s just not very catchy and a little all over the place but not bad and pretty pleasant to listen to. Fav songs: over & over, honey hi
Not much to say about this except that I sort of just thought it was ok and it didn’t make that much of an impression. Fav songs: buried alive in the blues, my baby
Fav song: we’ll let you know!!!!! Plus seasick, yet still docked. I honestly think this album sounds different than the smiths - a lot less soft and sad sounding. That being said idk if I like it quite as much. Wish I could give it five starts cause of the album cover 😛
Peak new wave omg. Definitely up there in my top albums of all time. Fav songs: POLICY OF TRUTH!! legit one of my favorite songs of all time, world in my eyes. It’s so hard to choose my favorites because every single track is awesome. The general atmosphere of this album is sort of dark and it feels like it was made to listen to at night. Some of the lyrics are kind of creepy and obsession-y but done really well and obv not just for shock factor.
this was really good and cool conceptually. I feel like it dragged on a little long but I liked the storytelling and tracks a lot. Fav songs: eye know, tread water
I feel like they put this album on here over other Neil young albums to be niche or something. Fav song: the losing end (when you’re on). This was a solid album but I think I’m just spoiled because I’ve listened to other Neil young albums and I like them a lot more.
This was so fun to listen to especially after the endless stream of rock and hip hop albums we’ve been getting. Every song was super catchy and different from the previous one. I like the switching between languages too. The album takes a really interesting turn on Dona Isabelle. Fav songs: believe, ya viene el sol, cuando canto
I love this album so much. Lou reed and Nico’s voices compliment each other so well. There is not a single song on this album that I don’t thoroughly enjoy or find interesting. I love the bass on a ton of these, especially I’m waiting for the man and European son. I also loveee the general atmosphere on Venus in furs and heroin. Fav songs: Sunday morning, femme fatale, heroin, I’ll be your mirror (couldn’t really choose lol).
I don’t know if I know enough about his music to say this but this is peak Neil Young. It sounds so smooth, nostalgic, and generally pleasant. I’m also so happy to have a good classic folk album without a trillion harmonicas. Fav songs: out on the weekend, old man
This is a nice background album but mildly uninteresting as far as jazz goes. Most of the instrumentation is pretty fun and pleasant to listen to.
Fav song: Manenberg revisited
so fun! I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an album that sounds so decisively 80s. Also something about this (esp songs like yeah yeah) sort of remind me of the B-52s. The whole album is pretty high energy. Fav songs: money changes everything, time after time
Really solid album. It’s hard to describe why I like this but I just feel like it does exactly what it set out to do. It’s the perfect amount of experimental - interesting but easy to listen to. Track 4 was probably my fav
Everything about this album feels pretty bold and in your face, which I think works well. Gorillaz prob has albums I like better (esp plastic beach), but this was pretty solid. Fav songs: Rock the House, 19-2000
Yess more jazz!! Also some amazing piano on here. I wish I knew more about the political context of this album before listening to it because I feel like that definitely influenced the lyrics a lot. Fav songs: back home, the bottle
This was pretty ok. If I’m being honest i just don’t like prog that much (Pink Floyd being an exception) and there wasn’t much of this that was interesting to me. Fav songs: roundabout, south side of the sky. Some of this was def cool but i felt like i had to weed through so much random stuff listening wise that it’s not that fun to listen to overall.
Yayy fun to get some synth-pop on here! I’ve been really wanting to listen to more pet shop boys and I really enjoyed this. I liked the general melodies a lot, the album felt pretty cohesive, and was overall pretty chill but in a good way. This wasn’t like standout great but I def liked it. fav songs: to face the truth, jealousy
I feel like I can imagine most of these songs as physical textures. The talking heads synthetically gave me synesthesia 😍. Anyways I liked this album a lot it’s super interesting to listen to. I like other talking heads albums a little more probably, but this is still pretty sick. Fav songs: once in a lifetime, the overload
This is seriously a masterpiece of an album. I feel like Stevie wonder confirms the idea that people who lose one sense have their other senses heightened because damn. I think this is in my top 15 albums of all time, and my fav Stevie Wonder. Every song is so intricate but absolutely mesmerizing and beautiful. Fav songs ( I wish I didn’t have to choose): golden lady, all in love is fair, he’s misstra know-it-all
this was actually such a joy to listen to. It’s easy for me to get bored of 70s rock tbh, but this was awesome. It’s not my favorite album ever but it’s very solid for a genre I don’t listen to a ton. Fav songs: bell bottom blues(!!!!!), thorn tree in the garden
idk how “good” of an album this is in a pretentious Anthony fantano way but it was pretty sick. The bass and a lot of the samples are cool and I’m kind of biased towards the sound of electronica. Idk if I’d sit down and listen to this but I would def play it as cool background music. It sounds like the party music in requiem for a dream. Fav songs: Santa Cruz, everybody needs a 303, first down.
For some reason I had never listened to all of this but I liked it a lot. It’s hard to rate for me because it has some of my favorite songs from Kanye’s whole career, but also some random ones (ex: monster) that feel really overcrowded and I was sort of waiting to end. It’s kind of insane and depressing comparing this album to like vultures 2. Fav songs: dark fantasy, devil in a new dress, runaway, hell of a life
this was so enjoyable to listen to and sounded so warm and smooth. I can’t tell if I like her vocal style a ton but it’s definitely impressive. I’m so grateful to be getting more jazz-influenced albums on here. My only complaint is that all of the songs kind of blend together a little too much and feel pretty similar. Fav songs: violets for your furs, glad to be unhappy
Wow this was so good. I didn’t realize how many hits were on the album. Michael Jackson’s voice and range is insane, obviously. All of the songs are really catchy and awesome and unique and I don’t really have any complaints. Fav songs: the way you make me feel, Liberian girl, dirty diana
The boing sound effects on cowboy? 😭😭 also holy shit these lyrics are terrible. I’m sorry kid rock I don’t wanna hear about you cumming all over some guys wife. Literally sounds like someone told chat gpt to write lyrics as a 13 yr old boy. I used to listen to some of Tyler’s earlier music and those lyrics are insane but at least the songs sound deserving of edgy lyrics yk? ALSO THE FUCKING LITTLE KID ON THE TITLE TRACK LMAOO get me out of heree 😭 the autotune on only god knows why is pretty bad. A little annoyed thinking about how there’s no björk or neutral milk hotel on this list but this somehow got a spot. Least bad song: bawitdaba
I can tell this was trying to be cool but it kind of just sounded like a jumble of sounds and cultural influences that didn’t really compliment each other. I’m ngl this feels a little like it was added to the list to have genres on there other than just 70s rock. A couple of the songs are kind of cool but the rest are enough of a miss to bring down the rating. Fav songs: visions of you, sweet divinity
amazing voice and beautiful songs 🙂↕️ this album feels a little long to me but if every song is good then I don’t really mind I guess. This is like my favorite type of r&b and feels super classic while also aging well. Fav songs: …& on, orange moon
If i had to describe this in one word it would be lovely. Carole king’s voice is beautiful and relaxing, and the music has the perfect amount of energy while also feeling sentimental. Fav songs: so far away, it’s too late, you’ve got a friend
