1001 Albums Summary

When I first saw "The Message" as my first album in journey through Black music, I thought it was going to sound like Kurtis Blow on disco tracks. I did not expect beautiful singing & yacht rock instrumentals. To be fair, it was only two tracks, but it is a more diverse album than I expected. I enjoyed most of the tracks from "It's Nasty" & "The Message" to "It's A Shame" & "Dreamin". Every song is at least 4 minutes long with two 7 minute tracks in a row at the end. This gives the tracks space in between verses & lets the instrumentals shine. The only major gripe I have with this album is that the rappers aren't credited well, especially for someone who doesn't know the members of the Furious Five. I would have to give this album an 81/100.

Cleanest music ever.

I didn't like the production style of this one

Conventional, unoriginal, and generic. I do not know why this album could be on this list other than paid advertising. Will not revisit.

I really enjoyed this album, especially the brass.

Really great disco album, wouldn't return so I'm giving it a 3

Favorites: ISI, Seeland, After Eight

No skips. I don't care for the critics that glaze the group but I personally enjoy listening to Radiohead. Will revisit 4 sure.

Ethereal.

One of the most sampled and interpolated albums of all time. After the 4-track run in the beginning, the quality becomes inconsistent. Favorites: It's Tricky, Peter Piper, You Be Illin', Proud to Be Black

Glad I listened to it although it isn't my cup of tea. The only track I truly enjoyed was the final track, "My Body Is A Cage".
