Easy listenin'
Lost me on the TV dinners song
Think I have a soft spot for this genre. Surprised I'd never heard of this band.
Smelled a little funky but tasted fresh
This was bigger than my puny brain could understand.
Hell to the yeah.
Ericka said: "this sounds like background music from a 70's action movie" and then I couldn't unhear it.
This sounded just like I'd expect an album named "Cream" from 1967 to sound. Unfortunately those expectations don't align with my taste.
This was excellent. Feel like you have to listen to it with headphones. It was like a really bad trip but in a good way.
Starship Enterprise nightclub music. That said, I sort of enjoy parts.
Enjoyment
Desperado goes to the circus. I'm here for it.
This was fairly groovy. Think "Skeletons" was my favorite.
Wanted to like this, but just weren't my jam.
Haven't had time to digest the lyrics. Averaging sound (2) with suspected lyrics score (4-5) [6.5 / 2 = 3.25]
Different, ok
Uplifting and different
A bit too zwonky for me : (
Frenetically awesome and real diverse in its sound. Mind opener for sure.
Pretty groovy mm-bop du-wop sheebop. Enjoyed it. But didn't open any windows to an entirely new world for me.
I just cannot
I enjoyed this (especially "Liability").
Joy
Two bangers in a row. This was awesome. -.25 for the album name; +.26 for the album cover.
I have always kinda liked 'La Cienega Just Smiled'. Still the most I could give it is a 3
Don't cry because it happened, smile because it's over
This was groovy.
I liked this more than their Eliminator album. The songs sounded more differenter from each other (review copied from my other group).
Industrial reggae? I actually enjoyed this quite a bit.
I imagine some people really like this and I completely respect that. For me it felt sort of like an angry static background music.
Didn't have my favorite songs of hers but for some reason I'm a little enchanted by her music.
This was an amazing journey turned up loud I didn't want to end.
Summer breeze makes me feel fiiine
This seems like it should have stood out to me but did not.
Would have given 4 if it had "About Today".
I maybe should have appreciated this up to at least a 3. But it's a 2 for me.
Sorry. Although I do enjoy Mr. Tambourine Man's Mr. Tambourine Man-ness.
I am now a Jeff Buckley fan. So talented, ethereal, different. Corpus Christi Carol - wow.
Good madlad muzac.
3 for the unabashed boldness.
Felt like just noise with occasional, far off in the distance reverberations that originated from snippets of music. Surprisingly this is not the most jarring thing I've listened to.
Bagooonta bimg-bom dazintz - tsk - tsk - za (mild saxaphone solo) into fade out to another groovily comforting song oom bom ga zbling a doo-wop a shblib-ba.
3-4 songs where I first thought "Hey, I know this" then a couple mins later thought "dang, this is really good." Still, I struggle to lift my ceiling on this age/type of muzac.
This album is from the future, when robots take their first crack after conquering humans at making music.
Well done, entertaining. ++ for song where he demos all the diff instruments. ++ for long version Exorcist song turning peaceful at the end which messed with my brain. ++ for jovial Hobbit drinking song at the end. -- for the werewolf song. 4
I recognized none of these songs. Maybe it's just me, or maybe this is far from their best album? Makes me feel maybe the list is too diluted. It was fairly low in background so maybe this is harsh. Maybe I said a particular word too much in this review. Maybe I didn't.
Liquid dancing with Techno Viking at the Grizzly Rose.
Enjoyable. Liked this the most of the Beatles offshoots I've heard so far.
Engaging background music. Yes, that's a paradox, but I don't think Radiohead would mind.
It was alright. I'm torn between 2 and 3. Still got respect for Bob Dylan but this album just wasn't my thang. 2
That's right. Harness your rage. Soon we will take the streets, much like the warriors of Double Dragon, and beat down neighborhood thugs and save the world. Or whatever the endgame of that video game is. Probably saving a girl.
This is was steely okay. Don't love or hate. An alright burger with no pickles or special sauce.
I'd enjoy listening to this band in a low-key bar in Fort Collins having a couple beers. Outside that, it's pleasant to hear but does not grip me.
Can't explain why but enjoyed this quite a bit in the background. A little nervous giving good rating without listening for and understanding any lyrics. But hey, worst case I endorsed summoning a righteous demon upon the Earth or something.
Best 3 I've ever heard.
Kick open the saloon door, knock the dust off a glass, drink down some whiskey. Reflect on the family you left at home while chasing the life of a drifting cattle man. This isn't Western music per se, but gives me those feels.
Listened to this in isolation a long run. It was, a lot. Eminem is amazing but I felt the sicko skits in this one were kinda overdone. I found myself craving -- I think -- some of his later stuff that has deeper themes.
I've never heard this album, but yet it feels so familiar. Kudos somehow, Rolling Stones.
Damn it, dis is groovy. I'll give it a 3 or 4 tomorrow based off how much pleasant residual funk remains in my system.
I am sorry, this did not group me an iota until the last 3rd of the last song. Though if you cross your eyes and stare at the album cover it's kinda fun to make shapes.
Despite "American Girl" flexing its preternatural strength to lift the album up, I just didn't get into it. I think I'll like his later albums more. *Checks list* -- oh. I guess I'm that guy who gives the only Tom Petty album on the list a 2. : \
The Two
Did this need to be the 2nd David Bowie album from 1977 to make the list? I would sacrifice 4 of these for a Blink 182 or 2 for another Tom Petty. I'm not mad at you, David. I'm mad at the situation.
I finished this album and honestly did not even realize I was listening to it. That's not really a bad thing; it evoked pleasant background emotions.... 3.49.
Nightclub in the Amazon Rainforest. Chase scene from a Predator movie. Apocalypse Now at the disco. How does one rate such things.
Sunglasses in a vampire nightclub. This album makes me feel good and also cool.
Groovy, unique sound. I can see why they're sort of iconic. 'Meh' for me.
I don't love Red Hot Chili Peppers. But I happily listened twice in a row. So, surely a 4.
This is a kaleidoscope of groove and good energy. No wonder it's #20 overall.
Good but not sensational. Enjoyed but not enamored with. For me it rocked but did not gggrrrrrrrRRRRRRRWRWAAAAAACK!
Bobby punk-faring pirates. It's like a cruise ship full of talented musicians shipwrecked on an island and had nothing to do but eat coconuts and produce music. Twelve years later, you have this very interesting but nearly impossible to relate to work of endearing, erratic energy.
I sort of like the reticent punk singer feel. Listened to this in the background and found myself quietly grooving in a good mood. I'm gonna lean in and give it a 4.
I mean it's Foo Fighters. You knew I couldn't go lower than 3. But then I don't know if I'll ever find myself reaching 4 let alone 5 for them. They have great sound but I rarely feel like, inspired by their songs.
Great storytelling. Unique. Plus I have a lot of nostalgic memories of this. 4 thumbs up.
This was sensational, horrid, bombastic, fluid, funky, spunky, rhythmic, retro, Voltron, laser, hip-hop, drop dat beat but don't drop the boom box. 3
