Eliminator by ZZ Top
Mar 09 2026

Lost me on the TV dinners song

Celebrity Skin by Hole
Mar 10 2026

Think I have a soft spot for this genre. Surprised I'd never heard of this band.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Mar 11 2026

Smelled a little funky but tasted fresh

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Mar 12 2026

This was bigger than my puny brain could understand.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Mar 13 2026

Hell to the yeah.

Mar 16 2026

Ericka said: "this sounds like background music from a 70's action movie" and then I couldn't unhear it.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Mar 17 2026

This sounded just like I'd expect an album named "Cream" from 1967 to sound. Unfortunately those expectations don't align with my taste.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Mar 18 2026

This was excellent. Feel like you have to listen to it with headphones. It was like a really bad trip but in a good way.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Mar 19 2026

Starship Enterprise nightclub music. That said, I sort of enjoy parts.

Fragile by Yes
Mar 23 2026

Desperado goes to the circus. I'm here for it.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mar 24 2026

This was fairly groovy. Think "Skeletons" was my favorite.

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Mar 26 2026

Haven't had time to digest the lyrics. Averaging sound (2) with suspected lyrics score (4-5) [6.5 / 2 = 3.25]

Debut by Björk
Mar 31 2026

A bit too zwonky for me : (

Femi Kuti by Femi Kuti
Apr 01 2026

Frenetically awesome and real diverse in its sound. Mind opener for sure.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Apr 02 2026

Pretty groovy mm-bop du-wop sheebop. Enjoyed it. But didn't open any windows to an entirely new world for me.

Melodrama by Lorde
Apr 06 2026

I enjoyed this (especially "Liability").

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Apr 08 2026

Two bangers in a row. This was awesome. -.25 for the album name; +.26 for the album cover.

Gold by Ryan Adams
Apr 09 2026

I have always kinda liked 'La Cienega Just Smiled'. Still the most I could give it is a 3

Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction
Apr 10 2026

Don't cry because it happened, smile because it's over

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Apr 14 2026

I liked this more than their Eliminator album. The songs sounded more differenter from each other (review copied from my other group).

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Apr 15 2026

Industrial reggae? I actually enjoyed this quite a bit.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Apr 16 2026

I imagine some people really like this and I completely respect that. For me it felt sort of like an angry static background music.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Apr 17 2026

Didn't have my favorite songs of hers but for some reason I'm a little enchanted by her music.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Apr 20 2026

This was an amazing journey turned up loud I didn't want to end.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Apr 21 2026

Summer breeze makes me feel fiiine

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Apr 22 2026

This seems like it should have stood out to me but did not.

High Violet by The National
Apr 23 2026

Would have given 4 if it had "About Today".

Pretenders by Pretenders
Apr 24 2026

I maybe should have appreciated this up to at least a 3. But it's a 2 for me.

Apr 27 2026

Sorry. Although I do enjoy Mr. Tambourine Man's Mr. Tambourine Man-ness.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Apr 28 2026

I am now a Jeff Buckley fan. So talented, ethereal, different. Corpus Christi Carol - wow.

I Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons
Apr 30 2026

3 for the unabashed boldness.

Felt like just noise with occasional, far off in the distance reverberations that originated from snippets of music. Surprisingly this is not the most jarring thing I've listened to.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
May 04 2026

Bagooonta bimg-bom dazintz - tsk - tsk - za (mild saxaphone solo) into fade out to another groovily comforting song oom bom ga zbling a doo-wop a shblib-ba.

Who's Next by The Who
May 05 2026

3-4 songs where I first thought "Hey, I know this" then a couple mins later thought "dang, this is really good." Still, I struggle to lift my ceiling on this age/type of muzac.

May 06 2026

This album is from the future, when robots take their first crack after conquering humans at making music.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
May 07 2026

Well done, entertaining. ++ for song where he demos all the diff instruments. ++ for long version Exorcist song turning peaceful at the end which messed with my brain. ++ for jovial Hobbit drinking song at the end. -- for the werewolf song. 4

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
May 08 2026

I recognized none of these songs. Maybe it's just me, or maybe this is far from their best album? Makes me feel maybe the list is too diluted. It was fairly low in background so maybe this is harsh. Maybe I said a particular word too much in this review. Maybe I didn't.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
May 11 2026

Liquid dancing with Techno Viking at the Grizzly Rose.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
May 12 2026

Enjoyable. Liked this the most of the Beatles offshoots I've heard so far.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
May 13 2026

Engaging background music. Yes, that's a paradox, but I don't think Radiohead would mind.

Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
May 14 2026

It was alright. I'm torn between 2 and 3. Still got respect for Bob Dylan but this album just wasn't my thang. 2

Out of Step by Minor Threat
May 15 2026

That's right. Harness your rage. Soon we will take the streets, much like the warriors of Double Dragon, and beat down neighborhood thugs and save the world. Or whatever the endgame of that video game is. Probably saving a girl.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
May 18 2026

This is was steely okay. Don't love or hate. An alright burger with no pickles or special sauce.

The Band by The Band
May 19 2026

I'd enjoy listening to this band in a low-key bar in Fort Collins having a couple beers. Outside that, it's pleasant to hear but does not grip me.

Arise by Sepultura
May 20 2026

Can't explain why but enjoyed this quite a bit in the background. A little nervous giving good rating without listening for and understanding any lyrics. But hey, worst case I endorsed summoning a righteous demon upon the Earth or something.

Truth by Jeff Beck
May 21 2026

Best 3 I've ever heard.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
May 22 2026

Kick open the saloon door, knock the dust off a glass, drink down some whiskey. Reflect on the family you left at home while chasing the life of a drifting cattle man. This isn't Western music per se, but gives me those feels.

May 25 2026

Listened to this in isolation a long run. It was, a lot. Eminem is amazing but I felt the sicko skits in this one were kinda overdone. I found myself craving -- I think -- some of his later stuff that has deeper themes.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
May 26 2026

I've never heard this album, but yet it feels so familiar. Kudos somehow, Rolling Stones.

Odelay by Beck
May 27 2026

Damn it, dis is groovy. I'll give it a 3 or 4 tomorrow based off how much pleasant residual funk remains in my system.

Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized
May 28 2026

I am sorry, this did not group me an iota until the last 3rd of the last song. Though if you cross your eyes and stare at the album cover it's kinda fun to make shapes.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
May 29 2026

Despite "American Girl" flexing its preternatural strength to lift the album up, I just didn't get into it. I think I'll like his later albums more. *Checks list* -- oh. I guess I'm that guy who gives the only Tom Petty album on the list a 2. : \

Tommy by The Who
Jun 01 2026

The Two

Heroes by David Bowie
Jun 02 2026

Did this need to be the 2nd David Bowie album from 1977 to make the list? I would sacrifice 4 of these for a Blink 182 or 2 for another Tom Petty. I'm not mad at you, David. I'm mad at the situation.

Pink Flag by Wire
Jun 03 2026

I finished this album and honestly did not even realize I was listening to it. That's not really a bad thing; it evoked pleasant background emotions.... 3.49.

Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem
Jun 04 2026

Nightclub in the Amazon Rainforest. Chase scene from a Predator movie. Apocalypse Now at the disco. How does one rate such things.

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Jun 05 2026

Sunglasses in a vampire nightclub. This album makes me feel good and also cool.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Jun 08 2026

Groovy, unique sound. I can see why they're sort of iconic. 'Meh' for me.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jun 09 2026

I don't love Red Hot Chili Peppers. But I happily listened twice in a row. So, surely a 4.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jun 10 2026

This is a kaleidoscope of groove and good energy. No wonder it's #20 overall.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jun 11 2026

Good but not sensational. Enjoyed but not enamored with. For me it rocked but did not gggrrrrrrrRRRRRRRWRWAAAAAACK!

The Coral by The Coral
Jun 12 2026

Bobby punk-faring pirates. It's like a cruise ship full of talented musicians shipwrecked on an island and had nothing to do but eat coconuts and produce music. Twelve years later, you have this very interesting but nearly impossible to relate to work of endearing, erratic energy.

Jun 15 2026

I sort of like the reticent punk singer feel. Listened to this in the background and found myself quietly grooving in a good mood. I'm gonna lean in and give it a 4.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jun 16 2026

I mean it's Foo Fighters. You knew I couldn't go lower than 3. But then I don't know if I'll ever find myself reaching 4 let alone 5 for them. They have great sound but I rarely feel like, inspired by their songs.

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Jun 18 2026

This was sensational, horrid, bombastic, fluid, funky, spunky, rhythmic, retro, Voltron, laser, hip-hop, drop dat beat but don't drop the boom box. 3

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jun 19 2026

Not exactly my taste but I respect what they've done here. I didn't know they wrote Summertime Blues.

The Cars by The Cars
Jun 22 2026

A bit too zany 70/80's for me. (Copied from my other group.)

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jun 23 2026

Nice to listen to. I couldn't really get further than that.

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Jun 24 2026

HELLO, 1966 Nice culture-shock inducing snapshot of music back then. It's so distinct. Not my style, but I do suspect people had some really fun times in '66 in a wooded clearing having a little party listening to this with tight tie-dye shirts and frayed jeans.

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jun 25 2026

This album cover so perfectly fits the album. It feels impossible to put in a box. Every time you try, it re-shapes into a different thing. It feels like a lot of music was the sound you'd hear while traveling through a warp device in Star Trek. And I'm here for it. I enjoyed the whole thing; it felt unique and interesting.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Jun 26 2026

Their songs start so strong. Then the singing and other things happen. It's like a cheese grater that takes in a good block of cheese then outputs eel guts. (Copied from my other group.) 2

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jun 30 2026

I am perfectly happy with whatever on God's Green Earth they are doing here.

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Jul 01 2026

I shouldn't be surprised given Jay-Z hype but here I am. It started good but not amazing, then in the middle (around "Never Change" and "Song Cry") it hit so hard for me. It sort of slowed down from there, but the tide remained just above 5.

Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jul 03 2026

I feel like this needs a bit more concerted attention than I gave to properly review. But I'm American so I'll throw a 3 at it anyway.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Jul 06 2026

Started out like a groovy interstellar jazz trip. Ended with a strange song of echoing flatulence noises.

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 07 2026

This was a rainbow of beautiful guitar noises. Tempo felt a little slow, but then maybe not. I'll bet this is a real nice listen on a crisp sound system.

Hms Fable by Shack
Jul 08 2026

If on a great, spirited journey I'd quite enjoy this. Perhaps questing through a meadow with the Fellowship. Or on a sunburnt morn aboard a dory crossing the Mediterranean. But as background music while clacking a keyboard with the blinds drawn in an office, not so much.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Jul 09 2026

From my other group I'd given this a 4 with no explanation. So apparently it must have been "good and enjoyable but not great and worth words" to me.

Jul 10 2026

Is this like, the forerunner to all punk? I'd like to crack a cheap beer with these guys in a London alley. But then go home after one cuz I'm sure I don't want to party as hard as they could. 3

Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes
Jul 13 2026

I am completely down with this. I want to go for a walk somewhere cold, folourn, and beautiful. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song was especially... something.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jul 14 2026

Nice in the background but didn't jump at me. 3

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Jul 15 2026

I don't know what this is. It's like he grabbed a fist full of random seeds, planted them in different types of soil, and watered some with water while others with Gatorade and others with radioactive liquid waste. The result is a disconcerting variety of song-like creatures that somehow all beckon me closer with their siren sounds and goofy lyrics.

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Jul 16 2026

Mmm-blippity-blop o-kay. This album feels made for great background coffee shop music. You'll need 2-3 coffees to get through it, though; it felt too long. 3

Jul 17 2026

I was super sloppy listening to this. Disjointed, halfway listening, getting up, sitting down, so on. Yet it still pulled me in a few times. I was never astonished, but also never disgruntled, and at times interested. This is weird Ronnie-speak for a 3.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jul 20 2026

"There is a Light That Never Goes Out" is inescapably interesting. But many of the others escaped my interest. Unfortunately for instance the last song, right after that one -- "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" -- what the hell was that. But I've actually come to like the Smiths more through this than I thought I would.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Jul 21 2026

I've always only sorta like Soundgarden. They're good but never grip me. Unfortunately -- sorry Ted, please don't maul me -- this reenforced my 'eh, ok' opinion.

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Jul 22 2026

This album felt like a puddle of bleak indecipherability.

Future Days by Can
Jul 23 2026

This is the music you would hear attending a jazz concert held inside an aquarium.

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
Jul 24 2026

Pretty good, pretty good. Didn't have the Elvis songs I know and like the most but there are still two other albums.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Jul 27 2026

This album is a jewel. If you put your ear close to it, you're transported to an effervescent golden stream. You ride atop it, through twisting turns and currents, seeking the gates of a place that's been waiting for you. It has moments a little jazz n'tzz-n'tzzy, but the moment you notice, it's ahead of you and changes to something unpredictable, milky exotic and unique. I just re-read the album title. It fits my feelings well. In other words I really liked this.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Jul 28 2026

Sultans is obvi the highlight. The rest I found alright. At least rumor is we have at least one more Dire Straits album with hopefully some of their other great songs I like.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jul 29 2026

I think there is probably a bit more here I am not seeing. But it's dark and a little bleak and hard to see. According to Gemini a single candle in a cave only lights 3-5 feet. This album has the candle, but only lights enough area in the darkness to make it a 2 for me.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Jul 30 2026

So pure. Really nice singing. (Copied from my other group.)

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jul 31 2026

I am unable to relate. But I imagine within the pop (?) genre this is probably pretty good.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Aug 03 2026

J5 is cool. Ahem, I mean, "J5 is rockin' on the radioooo"

Skylarking by XTC
Aug 05 2026

I don't know what this album is going on about but I sort of enjoy its innocent confusion and how it erratically changes my moods. Was gonna give it a 3 but then remembered this fucker might have bumped Blink 182 off the list so bitterly rating it a 2.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Aug 07 2026

This is timelessly good. He seems like he was so unique. Didn't have any of my favorites though so "I did it my way" and gave it a 3.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Aug 10 2026

My Doorbell felt different, like how he riffed the singing. The Denial Twist had really cool drum, um, symbol stuff. Update at end of album. Wow, all of this felt fresh and originally creative to me. I thought they were "just another rock band that sings 'Seven Nation Army'", but actually, I felt they have a unique singing against unique instruments and each song is different. Congrats White Stripes, you converted me.

The Renaissance by Q-Tip
Aug 12 2026

I'm totally OK with giving this a 3.

Eternally Yours by The Saints
Aug 13 2026

This is good rumbling in the background music. Though by the end my face was starting to look like the guy's on the album cover. Dunno if I'll ever leave the 2-3 zone for this peppy but low emotion range older punk (?) music.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Aug 14 2026

This is not my grape jam but feels totally fit to be on the list.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Aug 17 2026

I enjoy this band's rolling jukebox sound more than most rock of this era. Can see why they were influential.

Guero by Beck
Aug 18 2026

Beck is cool and different. But only 3-level cool and different for me personally. (Review copied from my other group.)

Perfectionist
