Saw the album cover thinking this was going to be some strange bluegrass revival album, pleasantly surprised but it starts strong, falls off, then comes back with a final terrific track

Really incredible blues work, every song is a head mover. Vibe of the album feels similar to Dylan’s Time out of Mind, not in terms of sound.

not bad but genuinely can’t think about anything this album does than any of its contemporaries. feel like the production doesnt hold up to the conceptual and artistic aspects, especially with the Indian vocals. Very striking but it’s applied in a dull way.

people calling this album boring are actually insane, this album has ear catching instrumentals and hooks and probably offers Smith’s cleanest production of his career. The only reason this album gets a 4 is because i know that Smith has better to offer.

Terrific narrative album that proves the test of time, however its sound is also slightly dated, it is clear this is a 2012 album by production. In some ways that can be a positive, but I think TPAB proves to be a more resonant and timeless album, whose sound exists outside of the era in which it was created.

This 2* rating is a testament to how everlasting Sinatra is. The music itself is good, but Sinatra is such a universal figure at least in American music that this album is kind of just what you’d expect. Terrific, but it isn’t anything particularly special because it is just Sinatra and everyone knows Sinatra

i understand the cultural significance of this album but it just doesn’t hold a candle to other proto punk albums. Really just feels like standard rock slightly turned up. Only redeeming part is the live recording providing some rawness and energy to the music.

The epitome of classic American country music. Ear grating.

putting this on is like listening to any oldies radio station, however i think the recording and performances are particularly lively.

Out of a lot of the older rock and classic rock albums on this list, this is one of the freshest and liveliest.

It’s rare for an album to have this thick sense of mystery in its sound, like walking down a dank and foggy alley way and unknowingly walking in front of people hiding behind the trash cans.

a well played well written album, but thrash isn’t really my style, those who love it will see it as a classic. But for me, i can respect it and understand the appeal, just doesn’t strike right.

Fun and funky. I think it bridges the accessible with avant- and experimental writing in a way that is endearing. If someone wants to get into experimental music, but isn’t ready for harsh textures or anything overly insane, this would be a good place to start.

Unbelievably vapid and boring music. I don’t know if it is, but this is what i think of when I think of 90s “adult contemporary” music

If I was 14 i would have a lauding review and give this a glowing 5. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve listened to a lot of the influences of this album and albums that have been influenced by it. Is it groundbreaking? In the mainstream music sphere yes. But there is much better to come from it and before it. Smells Like Teen Spirit, despite being the most popular song is probably the most dull and frankly boring song to listen to on this album. There are some tones that I’m shocked to hear on this album, Endless Nameless is a terrific noisy closer. Much of the most interesting sounding songs are those that weren’t singles. I also believe this to be the weakest Nirvana album, Bleach and In Utero are much rawer and abrasive albums that overall are much more interesting. It makes me wonder what they would’ve been up to if Kurt was still alive, Dave Grohl’s work in Foo Fighters shows he was not the creative force that created some of Nirvana’s harsher music, maybe they would’ve gone too alternative for the mainstream appeal they got from this album and sink back underground. Who knows.

An enjoyable record but nothing groundbreaking, not even within its own genre. This list has a huge issue of choosing random British top of the pop chart albums that really aren’t that good.

An absolute classic, really in a league of its own when it comes to songwriting and lyricism. Some people cannot handle Dylan’s voice, those people are soft and I am not one of them. Once you listen to Dylan enough you realize that his voice is an essential part of his music, if he had a rich tone like Johnny Cash for example, it would not be the same music, his nasally, even whiny voice is an essential part of the music. The recordings on this album are among his best in terms of production, guitars are glistening, especially on Tangled Up in Blue. I’d say only Desire has this album beat in terms of production. But that’s another perfect album for another time. If there’s one critique id have for this album, it’s that Buckets of Rain is a bit of a weak spot, but it may seem that way because every other song is unbelievable. I was going to say that the opening songs were incredible, but I ended up thinking of 9 of the 10 songs on this album as opening songs. An utter masterpiece that everyone should, actually NEEDS to listen to, preferably with a lyric sheet by their side.

Really terrific stuff, only album to make me envious to be a young adult in the 90s UK. But for some reason, I can understand why it wasn’t as big of a hit in the states, something about the album is uniquely British.

Fun and energetic with a lot of personality

Prog rock isn’t something im particularly fond of, but this album pleasantly surprised me. I have an issue of prog being virtuosic for the sake of virtuosity, but this album doesn’t do that enough to the point it annoys me, so it’s okay in my book even if not really my thing.

Sonic Youth always show some mastery of sound in every album but this one is a beautiful balancing act of catchiness and disorder. If this album was Teenage Riot 5x over it would still be a 5.

Experimental is the name of the game. Abrasive? Yep. Repetitive? Yep. Repetitive? Yep. But also shockingly groovy and an interesting dive into sound systems. You won’t hear anything else like it on this list, at least from what ive heard so far.

Boring, overly grandiose, sappy arena rock/glam metal. By far one of my least favorite genres. The only thing that triumphs this albums lack of self awareness is its lack of anything interesting.
