Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jun 13 2026

Stones, free jazz, Kurt Weill, there's a lot going on here. In 72/73 the genre lines weren't so bright. Thankful for that.

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jun 14 2026

Intimate and warm. A goth AL Green with god and love front and center.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jun 15 2026

I realize the chooglin' jams are to flesh things out and provide variety, but the short songs are so good. The 6 short classics take up as much time as the two jams. Heard it a million times as a young'un (born in '64), but songs like "Up around The Bend" still crackle with energy.

Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben Jor
Jun 16 2026

I don't understand a lick of Portuguese and this is still a great record..Brazilian and Funk classic.

Jun 17 2026

Calliope pop with all sounds considered. Cheeky, sarcastic fun.

Low by David Bowie
Jun 18 2026

Amazing sounds and textures on the instrumental tracks. A couple of recognizable David Bowie vocal cuts..and yeah I can see why folks were divided at the time of release. If this is what writer's block/kicking addiction sounds like..it is a great record. It isn't one I'd return to often, but a must hear in the Big Bowie Picture.

Harvest by Neil Young
Jun 19 2026

Not my go to Neil Young record. Old Man still hits, especially since I'm older.Hard to be objective after hearing the hits so many times...Love Neil, but this one is not for me.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Jun 20 2026

Blues, gospel, and jazz...mellower than I remember it. Mr. Smith is so smooth on the organ.

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Jun 21 2026

The title cut is an all time tune for me. Joy and Can't Let Go are amazing. An A album and probably a 4.75.

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jun 22 2026

Making an archive come alive..The players of some of the most influential pop music of the 20th century are brought back to share their stories. Brilliant.

Debut by Björk
Jun 23 2026

Not as experimental as her later stuff..but still 100 per cent Bjork..bouncing from club sounds to torch songs.

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Jun 24 2026

Aaah lofi...I always appreciate the crunchy guitar mixing with the jangly.

Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
Jun 25 2026

Less dated than I thought it would be. Turns out the the problems of 1992 haven't gone away. New names, same games.

Mask by Bauhaus
Jun 26 2026

Godfathers of goth deliver. Bass parts alone make it worth it. Danceable in stretches. Not as gloomy as they say.

2112 by Rush
Jun 27 2026

Whoa..a 20 minute dream suite about an alien race(I think)..nice. Instrumental sounds are top notch, Mr Lee's vocals..an acquired taste.

Low-Life by New Order
Jun 28 2026

Haven’t been intimate with this one for ages, although I did buy the LP the day it was released, back in 1985. I loved New Order, because I loved Joy Division. Low Life continued in the dancefloor direction that would eventually push me away from the band, but in 1985 there were still a few hints of the goth past. Today I remember fondly my New Order/ JD fandom, but with Unknown Pleasures and Closer a click away it is hard to see putting this record on over those 2 at any time. For the dance floor it's straight to the 12” collections.

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison
Jun 29 2026

Very groovy for 68..not rock. Jazz sounds, r&b vocals, painted from memory lyrics. Dug it.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Jun 30 2026

This is what guitars should sound like. Mali, the real home of the blues!

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
Jul 01 2026

It is a lot, but the songs are so sharp, ironic, thoughtful, funny,emotional...and the sounds are varied enough. In terms of an exercise in writing unique material on the most wtitten on subject of all time, it is epic.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jul 02 2026

Folks say it's depressing, but it's just a love story with junkies and sad children and death. Yeah, come to think of it, kinda depressing.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Jul 03 2026

Energy..yes. Warmth..very little.

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Jul 04 2026

Miles leads a big band toward bebop..he wasn't ahead of his time, but he was right on time.

Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Jul 05 2026

Dylan vs. Lanois...Dylan wins, becomes New Dylan.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Jul 06 2026

Broadway style but with enough Jacques Brel to make it interesting.

Is This It by The Strokes
Jul 07 2026

Save the vocals, I love. Short, sharp rock

Tellin’ Stories by The Charlatans
Jul 08 2026

Guitars played loud in the service of pop songs. A dying breed in '97. Sounds good to me.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Jul 09 2026

The drums on this record almost ruin it for me. A fun little revenge record.

Survivor by Destiny's Child
Jul 10 2026

An exhortation for boys to dance..ultramodern beats (for it's time),empowerment finger snaps as songs..meh

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Jul 11 2026

Poppier than I thought..graded up for having real guitar sounds. Probably where guitar based rock had to go to live in the pop world.

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba
Jul 12 2026

Must've been a blast of fresh air in it's day. I've heard later stuff from her and liked it. A book end to Belefonte at Carnegie Hall. Good stuff.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jul 14 2026

Surprisingly subdued.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Jul 15 2026

An all time favorite. I listen to a lot of music, but mostly song by song. I've returned to this record twice a year since it's release.

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Jul 16 2026

I liked her more with the twang..but I see why she did this and she is an incredible singer.

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Jul 17 2026

First time with the Furries...enjoyed the crunchy guitars, the attitude, the psych touches and the group singing.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 18 2026

I was 15 when it came out, but the wanton rock god thing was something I already knew about, so that wasn't shocking.A lot of the older rockers seemed to want to tap into the punk rock energy. Didn't happen here. There are some amazing guitar solos and the sing/hum along recurring themes. Not my fave Floyd, but still good.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Jul 19 2026

A short record with a variety of Bowie styles..still prime Bowie.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jul 20 2026

Some of the famous edits are very harsh. When Miles's trumpet comes in it sounds great. I would've liked more.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Jul 21 2026

Heavy Blues Rock but with pop elements as well. Solos are there, but the songs are short..lyrics..comical

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Jul 22 2026

It becomes so clear where the roots of the blues are planted. Soya is sublime.

The Score by Fugees
Jul 23 2026

The beats are just ok and Lauren doesn’t have enough verses. The ones she gets are excellent and worth the price of admission.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Jul 25 2026

Sounds amazing..crisp and clean 60 years on.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Jul 27 2026

A wide variety of progressive r and b styles. Salacious, but not just for the sake of it. Even though she collaborates with many producers, it's her record. No easy feat.

Queen II by Queen
Jul 28 2026

Led Zep filtered thru Broadway. The guitars really rip and Freddy,Freddy, and Freddy sound good. Much harder rock than I remember.

Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
Jul 30 2026

I would usually say GP is my fave, but upon review this one is right there.

Vento De Maio by Elis Regina
Jul 31 2026

She sounds good. I don't connect t with this like I do with Jorge Ben or Os Mutantes, but glad to hear it.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Aug 01 2026

First time hearing this one. I was not expecting a lot, but this one lives up to the billing. Hangs together beautifully.

The Man Who by Travis
Aug 02 2026

It didn't grab me sonically, so I didn't get a chance to connect with any lyrics.

GI by Germs
Aug 03 2026

First time hearing..I was expecting something scuzzier.

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Aug 04 2026

Still hits..Anyone who's seen a pile of disorganized, dusty records and drooled knows for sure..but anyone with an open mind should see this record is made with so much care and musicality, that it puts the whole sampling is stealing trope to bed.

Van Halen by Van Halen
Aug 05 2026

In the end it is a pre cursor of the mid 80's pop metal. Yes, great soloing, but not hard or heavy at all.

Copper Blue by Sugar
Aug 06 2026

Next to Van Halen Sugar seems harder and heavier.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Aug 07 2026

Sassy,snappy..loved!

Heroes by David Bowie
Aug 08 2026

In the big Bowie picture...kinda mid

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Aug 09 2026

Aaaah, when computers sounded like computers and all the more human for it.

Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Aug 10 2026

Pretty succinct for Prog. Excellent organ, but nothing else stood out for me.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Aug 11 2026

Came out my first year at college. Between it, B-52's, and Prince the entire party soundtrack was set. Which had me hating REM at first. I was more Clash and Hip Hop at the time. Sounds better to me now.

Next by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Aug 13 2026

Cringe moments with the lyrics take away from the abundance of sonic goodness. First time with the band and I may have to go back and check out a few of their back records. Never thought Id hear so many Jacques Brel songs on the 1001.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Aug 14 2026

The encyclopedia of guitar riffs (some stolen, some original)..and drum riffs and bass lines. Songs are long but the grooves are solid. I don't know if any vocalist/lyricist could match what this power trio laid down.

Play by Moby
Aug 15 2026

There are moments, chord changes, perfectly timed samples, that are sublime, but I'll take DJ Shadow or Little Axe or Dilla over this one.

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
Aug 16 2026

If I was between 10 and 17 when this came out...maybe. I was 35 when it came out and it barely registered. Now, I can't.

Sulk by The Associates
Aug 17 2026

Can’t get over the voice and the squeaks and squiggles of 80s synth. I do like some of the wrinkles in the drum programming.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Aug 18 2026

First time with this LP. The quality is evident. It won’t enter my pantheon, but it seems to fit perfectly into it’s time.

Da Capo by Love
Aug 19 2026

Side 1: Killer chamber psych, Side 2: 19 minute jam.
