1001 Albums Summary

Starting out with a genre I'm historically not a big fan of. Veggies first! Overall a solid album, but reggae remains not my jam. Favorite songs are No More Trouble, 400 Years, Kinky Reggae

I'm more of a Closer guy but still what a fucking great album.

It's good, just didn't grab me

If half stars were a thing on here it would be 4.5 stars. Putting two skits back to back is diabolical sequencing.

Very close to giving this my first perfect score but it sags around the middle. But geniuses are allowed to be self indulgent as their figuring out their genius.

Excellent psychedelic rock. Very good stuff.

Perfect album. A brilliant song cycle in 35 minutes where every song stands on its own while also strengthening each song before and after it.

My parents used to sing the end medley (or just Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight if they didn't have the energy) as a lullaby when I was small so this was always gonna be a five star album. The first best band's final album and they knocked it out of the park.

This shit sucks. Sanded down jazz pop with the most annoying parts elevated. Played well and technically it sounds good so I can't give it 1 star. Catchy enough that this crap is gonna be stuck in my head. Fuck Steely Dan.

After suffering through Can't Buy a Thrill this was a breath of fresh air

Totally fine and I imagine if I heard it in 1976 it would have been electrifying but having heard so much that has built on this foundation I just didn't get a ton out of it.

The Boss at the peak of his powers as a writer.

Tom Waits is one of my guys, and this is a great album that acts as a transition to his period where he puts out several masterpieces. Will go to the grave happy I heard "On The Nickel" in concert.

I wish I could give this 4.5 stars. It's so good. Foundational record.

What a great album. As seen by the stuff they made without her, Kim Deal is the key to good Pixies songs.

Amazing songs and a great performance but it's better as a historical document than as an album.

Good but over stuffed. This didn't need to be 54 minutes long. Cut "You're Crazy" and "Anything Goes" and move "Out ta Get Me" between "Sweet Child o Mine" and "Rocket Queen" so there aren't two 6 minute long tracks back to back and this goes up a star.

Nick Cave and Co kicking ass across a double album, hell baby damn yes!

The best nap I've ever had was in the backseat of a car driving into NYC while this played on headphones and if that sounds like a bad review then you haven't had a nap that good. Sliding in and out of consciousness while Cave plays piano and croons and buildings tower above you is a perfect experience.

This is a good album but come on, one does not NEED to hear this before one dies. It's a good rock album with fun danceable tracks but there are dozens of those released every year. I feel bad being so negative but the idea is these are albums you NEED to hear before you die and you don't need to hear this. Your life is probably improved by hearing it because it's good, but it isn't unique in that way. Is it a better album than "I Used To Believe In The West" by Songs for Moms? No. This is here because the author was a certain age when it came out and read NME religiously. A good rock album that could be replaced by a hundred others.

A very solid prog/art rock album, but it's inclusion isn't doing anything to make me think this list is primarily an exercise in white British male chauvinism. If you are a fan of the jazzier bits of this (where the album starts going from good to great) I recommend listening to Coin Coin Chapter Two by Matana Roberts

A band I'd heard people cite but never actually listened and turns out they're very good. Will be listening to more Sprout!
