Escuchar esto a los casi 40 años debe ser una experiencia muy diferente que a los 16. No me dieron ganas de rebelarme, me dieron ganas de gritarle a alguien más joven que no se está rebelando bien.

I understand why people would love or hate this album. If I had listened to this when I was younger I probably would have loved it but now it sounds too flat, too empty and overall pretentious as a lot of music that came out in the early 2000's. Not bat at all but seems like a wasted spot if we're talking about the 1001 albums you should listen to
Maybe I'm more of a casual Led Zeppelin listener and shouldn't listen beyond IV cause this felt like too much. Besides three or four a songs I didn't enjoy this album.
I used to think I was a Rolling Stones person but now I think I'm a Beatles person. Yet, nobody will let me marry their daughter.

This is the perfect example for generic 90's rock. Guys that know how to play their instruments but don't have any memorable melody inside them. Sounds like music made for a fake band in a 90's teenage movie.
I've listened and been touched countless times by the maggot brain guitar solo song but I never felt like listening to the whole album. It's not bad, it's a very good album but at the same time that maggot brain is the best and most interesting song the rest of the album has a lesser impact and maybe I was expecting a different sound just for the name of the band, not very similar to what I think when I think of "funk".
Monae tries to make rock, rap, soul, pop, sometimes on different songs, sometimes more than one thing at the same time and she has the talent to make a very interesting product while she tries but at some moments she doesn't achieve that during this album. She gets better results on the next one The Electric Lady. A good album that dares to try but doesn't succeed as much as it wanted to.
It sounds at first like a hard rock album but it's sound pretty quickly as 60's folky hippie songs and it stays moving back and forth between those intentions. I had never listened to this band, the good moments were really good, the bad moments were really boring but I'd be willing to listen to another more consistent one.
Better than expected but not my type of music.
Another rock and roll album with covers? This rolling stones boys will be over before they put out anything worth listening to.

Talking about brit pop this Super Furry Animals album wasn't supposed to be one of its best examples, there is no recognizable voice, there is not one memorable melody but is no supposed to be ignored either. It's just... acceptable. An ok debut album by a band that endure the test of time by being an ok band and were for better or for worse part of a movement that for some time dominated the music environment.
Loved it. I hadn't eve heard her name before, I wasn't expecting much but it was a pleasant surprise. Not every song is a master piece but it has enough great moments and the album as a whole is cohesive enough to be called a great album.
Horrible. Boring, over sentimental on every song. You would expect someone that looks as such a loser as in the cover at least learned to write good songs but the lyrics seemed to be written by a highschool boy that wants to write poetry. This album makes me wonder if finding new music is worth listening to music this bad.
Someone said they it deserved 5 stars just because Gimmie shelter and it has some of the best songs in their career but it also has some weak moments.

I really liked it. At its best moments it made me think of how could sound a female led and more conventional tool but at its worse it made me think of a very generic nu metal band and that range it's too wide. Still I'm glad I discovered this band. Almost a month within this project this is the first new album I discovered that I really enjoyed
The only song that I had listened by the pretenders was the Ramones cover "something to believe in" in the "We're a happy family" tribute album. It was the quietest, slowest song in the album but it was one of the best. If they were part of the punk movement before being considered new wave, that is a good way to classify them, like the softest part or punk but still really good. The whole album is good, not one song seems out of place or made to fill space but not one single song was that good to consider this as a great album.

Based on the reviews I was expecting something much worse and this is not bad, it's quite good actually but it's more brit pop, makes me wonder if most of the critics were English that there are so many brit pop albums in this list. I guess that's the problem with a 1001 list of anything, you are not only listening to the album you are comparing the album to what you've listened to and what you are expecting to listen to and I hope I can listen to a lot less brit pop.
More brit pop. But I cant be unbiased with this one, I listened to it in highschool and it was my door to understanding what britpop was.
I was expecting to like this album because I liked Fragile but it was really boring. Maybe it was added to the list as an album with historical value for what was to come for the band.

Cómo no le voy a poner 5 estrellas so este disco me hizo darme cuenta que stamos flotando en el espacio, que la felicidad te hace llorar, que todos los que conozco algún día morirán y en lugar de decir todas tus despedidas hazles saber que te das cuenta de que la vida pasa rápido. Es difícil hacer que las cosas buenas duren.
Based on the reviews I thought that I was goint to hate this album. If you like rock music you are going to listen to some country singers, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson most of the times but the most popular songs dont sound as country as this one, the thing that I saw more complains about were the lyrics, yes, it has a lot of country cliches just like a slayer album has metal cliches, a Motly Crue has glam rock cliches, a Cypress Hill has rap cliches. It's not self councious about being what it is, it doesn't try to change to appeal to other audiences, it wants to be a country album and at that it does a good job, at the same time I wonder if this is as good as the genre can be if its part of the 1001 albums. Anyway, I liked the simple songs, the instrumentation, even on the song that sounds like mexican norteño.

More britpop. More than half of the pulling in this album is done by bittersweet symphony, if that song wasn't there this would be a very forgettable album.
Every time that I saw low reviews to an album it's because they were reviewing the people that listened to that album more than the music in the album, they were reviewing the listeners, not the music. In this case most people are reviewing Morrissey and yes, it's like as he grows old he grows weirder and weirder but this was a very good first step from the Smiths, not too far a away but not a copy and in the right direction, I can't sat the same for the albums to come after this. But the melodies are there, the sometimes clever lyrics are there and Morrissey if you don't like what he does as a singer or lyricist he apparently has always surrounded himself with very talented musicians.
Sexy time music albums have no business lasting 73 minutes. They should last 10 minutes as God intended sexy time to last.
People complain about Corgan's voice as if rock singers were always trained singers with actual technique. This could have been a great album but to make it double was just relasing some of the greatest songs 90's rock gave with many fillers.
I liked that is short. I'm sure it was interesting when it was released and experimental too but we would need to listen to the albums in chronological order to appreciate that. Judging just by what it is now, it's a cute, short, folky rock album. It's good, but this one doesn't need a second listening.
Yes, it all sounds kind of the same and I still love the whole album. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is because where is pump it up, where is Veronica? Where is the unforgettable melodies? Not every song has to be like that but I think great albums have to include several songs that you can't forget and the music here seems more like a second to Costello's Lyrics and his singing also seems to be missing a catchy melody.
There's something good going on here, I'm sure of it, I just don't have what it takes to appreciate it and I do not want what I haven't got.
It's ok. The best moment is an organ solo in Smoking. Besides that, it sounds like a band that tries to be a softer Deep Purple or Van Halen but never finds it's way around. Always liked the cover.
I don't know enough of this genre to describe what is happening. Anything that doesn't seem to produce sound with, guitar, bass, drums or other real instrument I call it "electronic" I like the chemical brothers, Fatboy slim... And thats all that comes to my mind, I like the fat of the land but that sounds more like, rock, punk, industrial songs with a defined structure and lyrics. So I would say that maybe they needed to make this album to get to that point which I do enjoy, but this, this is too repetitive for me. There's a reason people had to take drugs before listening to this.
You can say a lot of things about nazis but they make good albums, at least this one. There is an excellent balance between rap and pop. I did not like the inclusion of straight up religious songs and the skit tracks, are they supposed to be funny? Not really sure. Last month I listened to His las album Bully and it sounded nothing like this, this has songs that you want to come back to.
