Really enjoyed it. First time I'd heard this album, although I was familiar with most of the songs.
Favourite tracks...Homeward Bound and Emily, for whenever I find her. Both beautiful songs.

I am a big fan of The Who. However this has always been my least favourite of the 8 albums made by the classic line-up.
Like early Beatles, Stones and Kinks it sounds really dated and doesn't have any of the real quality they would show later.
It also doesn't help that I have never been that fussed on the much lauded title track. Still not. Listening to it again, 'The Kids are alright' does the job of sticking it to the system anthem much better.
So I listened to it fully expecting to give it 2 stars but it sneaked up to 3 (probably, really a 5/10). It's not dull... it's a fairly easy listen and the playing is great. The noise they are making... especially Keith and John...is very different to the sound of, say, Help, Kinda Kinks and Out of our Heads..all released in the same year. It's clear..even listening to this debut that Keith Moon is something very, very special.

I am a big Nirvana fan, stretching back to the early 90s. This is just an incredible listen that has totally stood the rest of time.
Stripped of the screaming and feedback, this highlights what a superb songwriter Kurt was. These songs completely hold up on their own. I would easily put it as my favourite of the three Nirvana live albums I own (Reading and Wishing being the others). The relaxed banter between the band is very enjoyable as well.
You could quibble the fact that 6/14 tracks are covers but they are all enjoyable listens.

Never been a favourite. It's not terrible by any means but it lacks the really great tracks that their debut has got.
It passed fairly quickly and for the most part I wasn't bored but I wouldn't say that anybody who doesn't hear this before they die will have massively missed out on anything.
I prefer Lou Reed/VU in their softer moments so those were my favourites.

Rock Box was really good and I had the 'chorus' of 30 days going round my head for a bit afterwards but the rest kind of blurred into a collection of repetitive beats and uninspiring lyrics.

I tried! It's really not my sort of thing but people talk about this album in such exhaulated terms...I was expecting something magnificent that would override my indifference to hip-hop.
And when I was done (and I did stick to the end)..'was that it??'.
What have I missed? What was so revolutionary? It was just another hip-hop album, fine if you like that sort of thing but nothing special.
I quite liked The Blacker The Berry. I thought about 2 stars as I don't want to trash something just because it's not my genre but the ridiculously ott reputation this album has, combined with an 80 minute runtime, meant that I wasn't feeling generous!

Pleasant listen. I like his voice and the style was nice. Nothing massively stood out as extra special after 1 listen but this is one that I will definitely give a repeat listen to at some point.

So firstly, I'm reviewing the music not the man. Clearly MJ the human being gets 0 stars.
I had this on cassette back in the 80s when I was a child who just listened to pop music on the radio before developing my own taste and style.
Once I got into music properly in the early 90s this is something I never went back to and although many of the songs are familiar, this will be the first time I've listened to the whole album in at least 35 years.
And, despite the name, it really isn't Bad! The majority of the songs are catchy and the whole thing flowed by.
Smooth Criminal is a seriously good pop song and I've had it stuck in my head since my listen. The title track is great, I just can't stop loving you is great.
I also enjoyed Man in the Mirror and Liberian Girl.
Still not really my sort of thing but I will give it another listen at some point...sooner than 3& years time!!

8 Miles High is an absolute classic. One of the best pop songs of the 60s.
I come and stand at every door is interesting, if a little morbid.
The Byrds take on Wild Mountain Thyme is excellent.
Their take on Hey Joe is not.
And the rest of the album is kind of just there.

Why not 5? I'm not really sure. In reality it's probably 9/10 but that's not an option. It's a collection of lovely 4 star songs but only The River really transcends into my personal list of classics.
The River is just perfect. The best Christmas song ever!!

I then read the reviews before listening... something I haven't done previously.
I was expecting something awful so I was surprised, in that it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting.
After about 5-6 songs I think it was heading for 3 stars but it dipped in the second half.

I am partial to a bit of country rock and I do own an album by Emylou Harris so this wasn't entirely out of my comfort zone.
I enjoyed it. It was a very easy listen..the voices were superb! Definitely something I will give another listen to at some point!

That was great! Totally forgotten what a great album that is. I remembered that Sexy Boy is a fantastic song but the rest was a very pleasant suprise. Not a weak song anywhere on the album and lots of highlights.

Wow. Just a phenomenal album. From the opening drum of Five Years to the closing of Rock N Roll Suicide, this was absolute perfection (almost...I've never been fussed with It Ain't Easy).
So easy to see why it has such a high reputation. Bowie knew how to write a tune and the playing is top notch
Five Years is maybe my favourite Bowie tracksuit on any album. The slow build up, the lyrics, the drama...just wonderful.
Rock and roll suicide isn't far behind as is the title track. Starman may have been slightly dented due to over exposure but it remains a fantastic pop song with an insanely catchy chorus!
One of the finest albums of the seventies!

Great album..not quite the all time classic of it's reputation and not my favourite AC/DC album (that would be Highway to Hell) ..but it's still wonderful.
The playing is great... especially the rhythm section. Such a tight band. You know what you're getting with AcDc but they do it so well. The lyrics are often silly and (through 2026 ears) occasionally problematic but it's all just tongue in cheek.
ACDC are at their best when they do gradual build up songs and there is no better example of this than Hells Bells which is such a great opener.
The title track is superb as well

It was ok. I don't mind a bit of country but it's only 3 days ago I was given Dolly Parton and I wasn't ready for some more!!
The songs were pleasant enough although it was all a bit samey and nothing really stood out.

Like a lot of people, I've got an old battered copy of Gold in my collection. And I always kind of assumed that would do as far as Abba were concerned....I think of them as a singles band.
So this was the first time I have ever heard an actual ABBA studio album and it was...ok. The singles were obviously great... knowing me, knowing you is probably my favourite ABBA song (a-ha!!!) so that helped.
And the deep cuts? Nothing awful and some of it was decent. Tiger was great
There was also a bonus track called Happy Hawaii that I loved!

Nice listen...a great voice. Only quibble was that at least half of the songs I prefer somebody else's version. A Change Is Gonna Come is an absolutely incredible song, utterly timeless. But Sam Cooke's version is better! Likewise Wonderful World. Both Respect and Satisfaction were good but, again, not a patch on the far more famous versions.
But overall I did enjoy it.

Wow! I've had American Music 2 for years and love it, but that might have been even better! An incredible set of songs that Cash completely makes his own. My new favourite version of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Hurt and Personal Jesus. Not a weak moment anywhere!

One of those albums where I would have liked to have given it 3 and a half (or 7/10).
The best tracks are the most well known....Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger and Raw Power are absolute classics that have more than stood the test of time. And if that was the standard throughout we'd be going 4...maybe even 5...stars.
But the rest of the tracks don't really have the same quality. Don't get me wrong they weren't terrible, but there was nothing that would make me want to hear it again.

My second MJ album in a fortnight and I preferred Bad (I'm assuming Thriller will appear at some point). He's clearly very talented but nothing really made me want to listen to it again.

I've had a copy of World Without Tears for years and although I really like it I've never got round to hearing anything else she's done.
So now I have. I liked it... probably not as much as WWT but that might just be because I'm not as familiar with the tracks.
I'm definitely going to give it another listen at some point. 3 stars feels a bit mean... it's probably 3 and a half...but I suspect it's an album that needs a few listens to sink in and become a classic.

Great album! Dominated a bit by 'that' track, which I would happily never hear again....but there is so much more than that!
Turn to Stone is a great opener, To the border, Stepping Out, Big Wheels... pretty much every track is a belter.
Even Mr Blue Sky, I'm prepared to admit is not bad!!

Probably a 3 and a half...just lacks that one killer track. The whole album is decent but doesn't really have a proper Iggy classic on there. Loose is great, the title track is great... it's like an entire collection of very good songs without any of them being excellent!!

Really agonized over this score..more than any previous rating.
Believe it or not, in nearly 50 years on this planet, this was the first time I had ever heard a Prince album all the way through. And...I am still not sure. It's not really my sort of thing but I could definitely tell the quality in there.
The Cross was excellent, I really enjoyed Starfish and Coffee and Hot Thing as well.
Realistically, with so much material and very much out of my listening comfort zone, it's probably 2 stars on first listen. But I suspect repeated listens would probably push it up..so that's what I'm going for!
Loved this album for many years.
I almost didn't give this a 5. I felt time had dulled its impact a bit and it was heading for a 4. Then the ending of Rebellion (Lies) kicked in and I was transported back to 2005 when I played this album endlessly and I was reminded what a joyous and beautiful work of art it is!
Neighbourhood 1, Wake Up and Crown of Love are the other highlights but the whole thing is just terrific. Such a shame that they've never really hit these heights again (in my opinion, obviously)
As a little side note, this is now the third album I have been given in this project (after ACDC and The Who) by a band I have seen live!
