My Bloody ValentineFor years I though My Bloody Valentine were a shitty emo band but only recently I found out I was completely wrong and they are excellent.
For years I though My Bloody Valentine were a shitty emo band but only recently I found out I was completely wrong and they are excellent.
It's true what they say about experimental jazz. It's shit
Good job it wasn't the Trans UK Express or it would have been overpriced, delayed, busy and the toilets would have been horrible. AMIRIGHT?
A wonderful album. Each track an excellent story of murder in different styles. Features two duets, one with Cave's former partner PJ Harvey and the other with another of Australia's finest exports, Kylie. The duet with Kylie I think represents the attention to songwriting that both artists are appreciated for. Cave and Minogue still perform the track together today. I believe this album, along with the previous Let Love In highlights Nick Cave's final step in transition from hard post-punk toward more experimental alternative rock and the run of albums following Murder Ballads go from strength to strength. It feels like Cave unlocked his USP in Murder Ballads and Let Love In which had always been there but needed the platform and right moment to bring it to the front. Today Nick Cave plays more of a piano man persona but the core link back to Murder Ballads is still at the forefront of his performances.
Not my cup of tea completely but happy to drink it anyway
Utter tripe
They ain't pretending!
Not my cup of tea completely but happy to drink it anyway
Wet. Pure wet dad music tosh.
Utter drivel.
Magnificent.
It's true what they say about experimental jazz. It's shit
Excellent stuff. Lovely heart warming punk.
So. much. emotion.
Yeah really good
An excellent album but not as good as College Dropout
It got better as I got used to it but I'll leave it for the biiiiiiirds
Not bad at all. Too many flutes. Shame about the addiction and racism.
That was good fun.
Surprised me. Really enjoyed it.
Masterpiece
That was lovely and excellent. Grew up in High Wycombe. Who knew?!
Yeah that was good I liked it
Some songs a bit forgettable but others are excellent
Too beastlie
Was a little disappointed. Expected more. Some good tracks but not enough bangers
A fantastic album. Nice and nostalgic
enjoyed that, not all good but the good bits were good
Really good punky stuff, I like it.
Some bangers but too much breaking it down, taking it to the bridge and shouting. Maybe cause it was a live album.
Good times is excellenté but the rest wasn't at the same calibre.
That confused me. Had some banging guitar bits but was also really shit in some parts.
It was good fun.
A stone cold classic
A damn fine album
Yes

I enjoyed this but didn't love it. I think if I was seeing them live I really like them but nothing really drew me back to the album. As discussed I think they are a time sensitive band and listening to them now they just sound like many others bands but looking at the year this album came out it must have been a pretty fresh sound.
It's amazing that Courtney Love still hasn't been convicted
I just can't get on board with RHCP. Yes their singles are bangers but it's all the same to me, slappadabass, some fast rapsinging then a bit of slow singing and repeat. I also just don't like his voice. I don't think they are bad but just not what I want from life.
This was good. It was good, I liked it but I just didn't like it enough.
This is a great album I love it.
What a treat. Didn't really know Carole King except from the Gilmore Girls theme but this was great and I knew a lot more songs than I thought I would.
I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did but I just found it a bit boring and samey.
I really liked this album. I'm not sure I really knew anything about Eels beforehand so it was a pleasant surprise!
That was really good. I knew Kendrick Lamar but not well and I didn't know that album. But it was a goodun.
Weirdly this ticked all the boxes of the kind of thing I like bit I just found it a bit boring and forgettable.
This was like something we'd do in AS Music Tech. It occasionally resembled music but you would expect that from something on this list.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Mad guitar solos and what not.
This was enjoyable enough, nice to bop to. In the right circumstances this would be great fun, unfortunately not as fun just sitting at a desk listening.
I just thought that was terrible.
This was good but not great. Superstition is obviously a banger but there was nothing else amazing.
Really enjoyed this one. Would give a longer review but in a rush.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I knew of Fairport Convention but hadn't really listened so this was a very pleasant surprise
This has been my favourite one we've had so far. I find it such an original album unlike anything else, even Velvet Underground. It's got some ultimate bangers on it.
This was good fun but not as good as the other Sly album we've had.
I've never known what to think about Randy Newman, he's got a very distinctive voice and style but I find him a bit repetitive. His satirical songs can be a bit hard to understand what he's actually satirising but maybe that's just a time culture difference. For example his 'Rednecks' song just seems to be 'Indon't like Rednecks so I'll pretend to be one in this song'
That was spectacular, I bloody loved it. I only really knew Leonard Cohen's 'hits' but this album was amazing. And released just 3 months before he died.
It's a goooooood one. Not sure what else to say, just excellent guitar playing, singer, what a sound, boy oh boy.
This was not what I expected it to be but it's quite good.
It's a banger that's for sure
Wonderful. This was Bruce's album after a long hiatus from music and even longer one from the E Street Band. It appears quite light hearted but there are some quite meaningful and clever songs in there such as the Rising, You're Missing and Mary's Place. I feel that these great songs are lost a bit in the more 'party songs' such as Waiting on a Sunny Day, especially for first time listeners. Nevertheless, I love this album but I did hope that the first Bruce album on this list would have been one of the earlier more accessible ones.
This is such a great classic hip hop album. Obviously Can I Kick It is a banger but Push It Along is just as high on my bangerometer.
An exceptional album. Has two of the best Led Zeppelin songs on it in Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On. Led Zeppelin are great at really maintaining a blues feel, even folky in some areas but with a more heavy rock exterior which I think is what makes them so good.
Boring! This had a grand total of ZERO bangers upon it. Only got two stars because Michael Stipe does has a good voice none the less.
I quite liked this. It had some really good sounding guitar and was more melodic than the previous one.
This was more bearable that the other jazz ones we've had but still not that nice.
This had some good rhythm, some nice guitar and a good sound but over all it just felt a bit flat. Felt like it was trying to copy a lot of better bands in the same genre rather than being something different.
Not bad, not bad at all. I think in 1994 this would have been a very different and exciting album amongst other grundy music but it's hard to listen and not just think of more seminal bands from that era.
This was pretty good but it was quite long and I got a bit bored.
A wonderful album. This is such a sound.
This was not good. It seemed pretty soulless. Also Mr Green appear to be not a good person.
Nah, didn't get much from this.
One of the tip top hip hop albums of all times. Magnificent.
A classic album for sure with some of the bangerest bangers on it but the interim songs weren't so good.
I've never been a massive fan of Queen apart from the hits but this was pretty good and I can't deny their musical importance so it's a thumbs up from Cress.
A pretty impressive feat and some incredible guitar and keyboard skillz but didn't rouse me up as much as I thought it would.
Not bad but the Come Dine With Me thing just made the whole thing sound like a backing track or theme tune. What a sad little life.
John Lee Hooker is excellent, I could bathe in his music all day long.
I love this album. Heroin is a banger and a half.
I really liked this album. Pleasant Street is a banger and a half.
Loved it. Billy Bragg took a load of old lyrics of Woody Guthrie's and put these songs together trying to imagine how he'd do them if he were alive today. Plus there are two more of these albums.
I love Paul Simon's style. It very recognisable but still very varied from album to album. This would have five stars but Cars Are Cars was just too much.
It was alright, interesting in places but wouldn't seek it out again
I was pleasantly surprised by this. Never listened to this album before and only really knew Gazza's hits but I enjoyed this one.
This album occasionally peaked my interest with some good guitar and rhythm but then it would go completely mad and unlistenable.
Submerge me in a big hot bath of Muddy Waters. I drink up this music. Bloody love it.
I love this album so very much. Into My Arms is one of my favourite songs ever, it's magnificent. People Ain't No Good and Far From Me are also perfect songs. WHAT AN ALBUM
Very good.
This was good but not as good as other Eurythmics albums. Obviously got an ultimate class A banger on there but one top banger does not a banging album make.
This was fine but thats about it. I've never been a big fan of Mr Costello except for the hits.
Aye, that's a banger.
I was never that much of a fan of Franz Ferdinand at the time, the hits sounds a bit cheesy to me and not in a good way but I did enjoy this overall
80s drivel in my personal honest opinion. But I guess it had some merit.
I quite liked this. A bit long and a little repetitive but I like that kind of music so that was okay.
Bit boring ennit
It's great how perfectly 90s this album sounded even though I'd never heard it before. But it wasn't brilliant.
Great stuff.
I found the music in this really good and interesting mixed with the vocals but I didn't find the lyrics that great.
Great fun, love Steely Dan.
I liked this
Not a huge reggae fan. I like it as background but don't know enough to know what's good and what isn't. Either way this was A okay.
Enjoyable. Work It is a banger OBVS. Missy Elliot, more like Missy Good Album.
This was fine. It was okay. It'll do. Like how Chole described Franz Ferdinand as 'landfill indie', this is 'landfill 90s alt-rock'
At first I wasn't that bothered by this, but it got better.
Good vibes.
I love it. I love this music. I love it.
This was really good and exactly why I am enjoying doing this whole thing. Never heard of this album before but really liked it.
Love this album. What a concept.
It's a goodun but not wholly memorable
This was great. Country can be a bit hit and miss and I can't listen to it for too long but I really liked this album. Although it's got a few covers on it, it's not a covers album but Emmylou Harris only has a writing credit for one song. Interesting stuff.
I ruddy love this album. It's such a banger.
Not bad, not bad at all. I found it started to sound all the same toward the end though.
Just found that really dull. It wasn't necessarily bad I just got quite bored.
This was alright but a bit boring. I wanted to like it more than I would. For a 36 min album it felt longer. Too much Jesus too.
I unexpectedly liked this. At first I thought I was going to get bored but it was good.
This album was fine. I liked it for background listening and it was interesting in places but nothing to rave about.
Very good stuff.
A very pleasant surprise.
I really like Eric Clapton but some of his stuff is a little weak. This was a bit weak in places. Reptile is his best album in my personal opinion
Good fun!
It is a great album from a great man. Remember when Gal Gadot and her 'friends' did Imagine at the start of lockdown?
I love this album. It's so interesting and the vocals are great and the structure is fresh. Love it.
Meh, it was fine but it wasn't anything special at all
Superb. Cannot be faulted.
I love this album very much. It was the first Bob Dylan album I properly listened to when I was about 15 and it blew my little mind. The structure of the songs was so different to anything else and the lyrics were supreme. God bless Bobbles.
I've always liked Madness but only really as a passing thing for their hits and what not but as a full album this was ruddy good.
Not bad, I like Flaming Lips but I must admit I get a bit bored after a while with them.
I know this is a very good album but I just didn't enjoy listening to it
I ruddy love Tom Petty, he's wonderful. This is a fantastic album with some of his best.
I didn't get much from this. It wasn't completely awful but just not of interest to me. I appreciate that people really like death metal and I can understand why but I just don't want to listen to it.
An excellent album.
For years I though My Bloody Valentine were a shitty emo band but only recently I found out I was completely wrong and they are excellent.
This was a goodun, don't really know the band much but really enjoyed this album
At first I thought it sounded like any other rock n roll from that era and a bit forgettable but as it went on it got better, good fun. Can't believe Chole gave it a 1.
Hmmmmm. He's got a great voice no doubt, but it's used too much as the USP. The songs could be good without such an overbearing voice and in some places it detracts from a good song. None the less he is a very prominent musical figure and has influenced a lot of great stuff.
Not bad. Some nice bass. Looked him up and he plays a very nice looking 6 string bass. Some good tracks and sections but a bit all over the place. Not bad though, not bad.
This was fucking awful. God the 80s was awful.
This is a good album. Not typically my kind of thing and I wouldn't really put it on for fun but I can't deny how interesting it is and fresh. Feels like it was way ahead of its time.
It was alright, a bit too all over the place though
This was like a technically gifted school child was given a task to write a 'metal' album. A complete load of unimaginative rubbish.
I'm my opinion Like A Prayer is the greatest pop song ever written. However, as a full album this is not the best. I'm shocked to see that Lucky Star isn't on this list because I think it's a much better album. Regardless it is a good album.
It was okay. Upbeat and fun but not a genre I normally partake in.
Not bad but not great. All felt a bit simple and based off one sound. I think they got better as a band but this wasn't the best.
I found this quite hard to get through. It wasn't bad as such just felt long and I really hate those little skits of vocals they have between tracks on rap albums.
I love Alice Cooper. He is great, I listened to him on 6Music recently and he's just a really nice guy who loves the performance and campness of glam rock. This album was pretty good, not as good as Trash.
Not too bad but a bit repetitive in places.
This was a weird one for me. I liked the voice, I liked the music but I found the overall thing a bit lacking, the lyrics were simple and I couldn't forgive naming a track 2 Kool 2 B 4-Gotten. It sounded a bit like if you told an AI to write a country/Americana album. It was like a much cheaper version of Sheryl Crow (who I am very upset to see isn't on this list at all, so now I'm in a bad mood).
Twas a banger
Boring ennit. Too many vocals audio sample intros for no reason. Found the whole thing quite forgettable. Occasionally a good guitar solo. Total dad band.
This was pretty good. I like this era of music a lot but some of it wasn't as good as the opener.
I feel like this is what uneducated people think Bruce Springsteen is, just an American bloke with a guitar singing about big trucks and shit. It was all a bit hollow. HOWEVER, the only good track was the live cover of State Trooper which is a Springsteen song.
Liked this a lot. Great guitar, some powerful lyrics, good sound. A K-Town Banger in my opinion.
Just fantastic. What a voice, what a notion, what a sound.
Good job it wasn't the Trans UK Express or it would have been overpriced, delayed, busy and the toilets would have been horrible. AMIRIGHT?
No. I did not like that. Occassionally I thought 'oh this bits okay' and it just wasn't again.
Great stuff. There was a couple of times where it went on a bit but it was a banger.
I'm not actually a huge Strokes fan. I wouldn't really choose to listen to them but this is a seminal album and has so many bangers
This was a bit of fun!
Not bad at all.
Can't deny it's great
I used to think Eruption was the greatest two minutes of music ever. I was not correct. But it is pretty cool. Overall album is fine, I'm sure it was very impressive and progressive at the time for rock music but hard to differentiate that in your mind in 2021.
I really liked this. At first I thought it was a bit nothingy, but as it went on I really warmed to it. Good lyrics, some good musical choices.
This album is perfection, it really gets me going, I love it. There isn't a bad song, all bangerz. Great guitar, such a great voice, I love the simplicity of the lyrics, it's not poetry but it's amazing fun. ACDC? More like AC-Inredible-DC.
A lot of people love Mr Stevens but I don't really get it. There's a couple of good songs and ideas here but generally I'm not fussed. Also I really hate the long song names thing, literally just done for the sake of it and to make people think they are witty and talk about the long songs names like I am now.
This was great fun. What sass.
Not bad, bit of fun.
One of the best albums of all time. Rumours? No, it's all true.
This is an excellent album. Johnny Cash is fantastic.
This was great fun
Thank god that was short, I couldn't handle much more. Occasionally that was a good bit but then it would be overthrown by someone who fell on the piano or pushed over a bass.
This was good fun! Got me bopping.
An excellent album
Never been sure about Elvis Costello. His voice gets on my nerves. This wasn't a bad album and had some good bits but just didn't get me going.
Didn't mind that but found it quite boring...
Not a bad album at all but a little forgettable. Instantly recognised the first song from School of Rock but the rest was fairly similar. Also sounded like they were trying to be the Velvet Underground
It's just not good is it? It all sounds like joke music but knowing that it isn't makes it very hard to listen to
Trying to separate the art from the artist this really is a banger
Nothing specially, sounds like McCartney on a musical conveyor belt.
Not bad, much more palatable jazz than some of the others we've had
I just do not like it. Sometimes I can get on board with heavy metal like this but just not this time
I liked this more than I thought I would
This really is one of the greatest albums ever written. I just can't get enough of it. Every song is perfectly crafted. Asylum is such a great song, the build up and progression of madness is sublime. Bloody Well Right is a banger to bang all the bangers. The rest are just plain excellent.
not really my kind of thing but it was fine background music for working!
Love this. I've listened to David Crosby a lot through Crosby, Still, Nash and Young but never really listened to just him. Was exactly what I expected which is good.
Yeah pretty good. I generally like the sound but not a band I listen to a lot
Great album. I really like Cornershop. Often seen as a one hit wonder but they have such an individual sound and still bashing out great albums today
Pretty good. Has some bangers in there but too long
Lovely stuff, drink it in.
A tour de force
It was fiiiiine
A very good album. It really is 'raw power'. I guess that's where they got the name from.
Here we go again. More slappin' the bass and quickly saying 'hoot, hee, hat, badababa heet har' then doing some slow singing then slappin' the bass again. Guess it's okay though.
Beautiful
This was fine. Quite enjoyed it. I don't know the band and didn't recognise any of the songs but it sounds like a lot of other stuff from that time/genre
Could not get on with this
Not a massive fan but it ain't bad
Thanks s was excellent fun. It was mostly covers though. But still, can't deny it.
Bjork is fantastic. Fantastic is Bjork. Such a recognisable sound.
Not a bad album and a good sound but not a huge fan, which is strange because on paper it's right up my street.
I really do love the Smiths. I find them very nostalgic for my teenage years. This is a great album with some bangers. Only lost a star because Morrissey is a c*nt.
Naaaaaah
Lovely. A great voice, a few classics
This is my favourite PJ Harvey album, it's ruddy good stuff.
It's a masterpiece of Bobbles
You can't deny it's a disco classic. You can boogie, you can sing, it gets ya bopping and I won't hear another word about it.
Not bad at all
Well what can I say? It's a masterpiece. I think this album is the perfect all round Bruce album which I'd suggest to anyone who doesn't know him. Thunder Road is the quintessential Bruce song in my opinion, if you don't get that song, you just don't get Bruce. I've heard that song countless times but I still find it completely mesmerising. I'll prattling on, FIVE STARS
Wow that was quite the slog. Not usually my kind of thing but I was able to appreciate how good it is and it's always nice hearing a live show and people having a jolly good time.
I just can't get on with him.
I've never managed to get into the Fall. It's not that I don't like, I just don't see what the fuss is about. Mostly sounded the same to me. Also, Mark E. Smith seemed like a twat and was really horrible to Adam and Joe when he was on the Adam and Joe Show.
Beyoncé isn't someone I would normally listen to. People bang on about her like she's the most amazing person. Nevertheless I have no complaints about this album, tis a fine album.
Preeeeetty good
I quite the Beastie Boys but I don't often choose to listen to them. However, this album was really enjoyable, really varied
This was great, just really enjoyable.
Pretty standard rock ballads and shit.
This is an excellent album. Tonite is such a banger
Hard to know what to say about the Beatles. I've never really been a massive Beatles fan, I like them as much as the next person but you just can't deny how good they are really.
She is excellent
This is a fantastic album. When I saw it I wondered whether my love of it was just nostalgia for the time but it is genuinely a great album. I remember when it came out it felt so cool and different to a lot of other stuff and the whole aesthetic of it felt so fresh.
Wonderful stuff. I remember watching Ms. Jackson on a music channel just before school one day and thinking it was excellent. I haven't actually listened to it properly for a long long time so it's nice to know it is a very good song.
I really enjoyed this
Pretty meh, just a voice and some guitars really, all sounded the same, not necessarily bad but not excellent.
Same review as the last Smiths album: I really do love the Smiths. I find them very nostalgic for my teenage years. This is a great album with some bangers. Only lost a star because Morrissey is a c*nt.
Can't say no to this!
I have just never been able to get into Prince. I just don't get it. I know he was an incredible guitarist but I just don't like the music except for his top bangers. Feel like I'm really missing something but I've tried a few times and never got it.
I would never normally listen to this but it was exactly what I needed today. Weirdly it really helped me concentrate on work.
I'm fairly neutral about this one. It was fine but nothing amazing.
Just such an excellent album. Imagine this being your bands debut album, nuts. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs. This album is chock crammed full of the bangerzest of the bangerz.
Really enjoyed this one! I've not really listened to Mr Eno, I only really know him from his collaboration with Bowie but I really liked this so I'll definitely dive deeper in the eno-verse.
White Stripes are such a sound. The vocals, guitar and drums are all so recognisable as the White Stripes . I ruddy love it. Jack White is one of the best guitarists.
Not bad. I find it quite hard to rate rap/hip-hop albums because they take a lot of attention to really get the lyrics and meaning of it all and I can't always commit that so just have to go off a felling.
The bangers are bangers that's for sure. But there's some crap on here too. I very much like Damon Albarn but I have never forgiven Blur as a whole for bullying Nardwuar in his interview with them in 2003. They stole his hat.
This was lovely. but I was a bit sick of the girl from Ipanema by the end
I remember thinking I was the koolest bees knees when I found this album at home when I was like 13/14 and was super cool for liking it. I guess I was.
I enjoyed this. I'd never heard of it before and it's pretty up my street. Can't complain!
This was excellent, loved it. Like a cross between Dead Kennedys and the Ramones. Definitely a keeper!
I like Iggy Pop. This is good stuff. In fact I prefer his version of China Girl to Bowie's.
Just an excellent album. Not sure what else to say. I remember my dad playing me Gallows Pole on guitar when I was a small child, a bit of a weird sing when you think of lyrics but hey. Interesting fact, the original record cover had a wheel on the side that you could turn and make the image change through the little holes.
Great stuff. Raw, powerful, Hives. Always been a bit of a throw away 00s band for me but actually are really good.
Bit of fun ennit. Bit much in places but all good
Not bad but a bit long, good background music.
Was this just a coincidence that we got this one around Christmas? You can't really say no to it, it's got all the big hitters, but I was a bit annoyed cause I was listening to it in January.
I loved this. Perfect music to work to in my opinion. Listened to it twice.
Oooooo it's a smooooooooth one
Pretty good. Not the best Beck album in my opinion but did enjoy it
This was a banger, such a good sound. I love the addition of guitar sounds to the classic hip hop beats
Mostly 80s nonsense but not bad I suppose. All sounded the same to me but good fun I guess. Can't deny Come On Eileen is excellent
I really liked this album. I love modern, female, country, Americana and this was great. Occasionally a few duff areas but generally very good.
Pretty good, I do really like Steely Dan but sometimes feels a bit samey
I was not really looking forward to this album but it really surprised me! Great beats, the rapping was really clear so you I could understand what he was saying. And that's the most grandpa thing I've ever said.
Fairly enjoyable, nice background music, calming and whatnot.
Finally a Bowie! Definitely one of the best Bowie's at his peak. Apart from the obvious hits also has The Bewley Brothers, Kooks and Queen Bitch on it which are all excellent.
Two Bowies in a row! One of my favourite Bowie albums as well. I love everything that led to this album, a big change of pace towards soul following the Diamond Dogs era. There's a great documentary about backing singers called 20 Feet from Stardom which has a bit about Bowie's performance of Young Americans on the Dick Cavett show and how he worked with the backing singers so much in the writing process through the whole album. And he looked beautiful and had those huge shoulder pads. One of my favourite live videos. Magnificent.
This album is a masterpiece in my opinion. I ruddy love it. It gives me a very specific feeling when I listen to it and I feel like I have this exact picture of the whole album as a concept. Might be a load of rubbish though. Sprawl II is my favourite Arcade Fire song.
Not bad at all, had some catchy beats and sounds but a little bit long and samey for my liking but would be happy to hear again.
I don't think I hated this as much as others in the group but I can completely see why. I guess I was able to just enjoy it as face value but it's nothing special, especially from Neil Young.
This was BORING. I think this is just Paul Weller needing to pop out another album so his dad fans don't forget about it. It had some nice guitar bits in places but they were very isolated and the whole sound of the album was dull as dishwater.
Pretty fun stuff!
An excellent album. I think Taylor Swift is an excellent song writer and I'm really enjoying this new phase of music, for me it shows a that she is a very good musician. However, this album just isn't as good as Folklore so I'm very surprised that it's on here and Folklore doesn't seem to be.
Yeah it's undeniably good but it's not my favourite Beatles album. It's got some bangers for sure. But I must say, I don't like Yellow Submarine, I just don't think it's a good song.
Yeah, good ol' Neil Young. I didn't realise this came out in 1992! I've always thought of it as a classic 70s Neil Young album but I guess anything that was realised before we were born is just an album from 'before times', weird.
Eugh this was just too much. So flipping long and every track had like 5 crappy solos. It felt like what teenagers want to do when they start a band, just piss around a lot for ages. It was excessive.
Very enjoyable. Good quality metal where it all feels very considered, not just metal for metal sake.
A magnificent piece of work. Such a good sound but still very varied. What a talent.
I do really like the Cure. I thoroughly enjoy the whole thing but I don't really know what any of the songs are about and it does mostly sound the same, but sounds good the same.
I absolutely adore Talking Heads and David Byrne in general. They are so creative and different and such an excellent sound in everything they do. I'm currently reading David Byrne's book How Music Works which is great and he outlook on what music is and 'how it works' is great. This album really shows so many different aspects of what makes great music great. Also I think Tina Weymouth is the best bassist I know of, Talking Heads basslines are so so good and a big fat middle finger up to people who think bass is just a necessary but boring thing, the bass in Talking Heads is so integral to their sound.
I'm sorry I just can't seem to get on board with Elbow, they are really dull to one. One Day Like This is a banger for sure but I don't like the rest. The Fix was grating.
Another great Cure album
This was really good
I didn't hate it but I just find the whole thing a bit naff. Mr Blue Sky is a banger but the rest is naff naff naff.
Like I said, just makes me think of nude hippie folk dancing round a stone circle in prep for an orgy. Good stuff!
Bloody love the Pogues, such a great band. I has such nostalgia for this album, my parents playing it a lot when I was young.
Wonderful, just wonderful. I love the Ramones, such a sound and such nostalgia for me. The sound of the Ramones just throws me back to listening to them when I was 13/14. They epitomise so much of the music I love, so much of it can be traced to the Ramones.
Really enjoyed this album. I don't really know Stereolab very well at all but this was a very pleasant surprise
Sound of our generation ennit. What an excellent album, not a bad track on it. Such a sound and just holds a perfect memory in space and time for me. Shame they got shit.
Eminem. I really loved Eminem as a teenager, the Eminem Show is absolute genius. This album shows him on the way to that and it is a fantastic album but I think his style got cleverer with subsequent albums. This album is in places difficult to listen to but I do get the reasoning behind it all and I think it's very good. The political edge of Slim Shady is very interesting and this album seems to be wholly about Eminem attracting mainstream attention at being a white man rapping when his black contemporaries had been doing the same thing for ages sparks very true and is evident in the fact I loved Eminem and he made it so big in the UK when no one I knew of was listening to Dr Dre or anything similar.
I just find them boring. I think his voice is too ingrained in my brain as boring and full and there's nothing anyone can do about it unfortunately
I'm not a massive Kraftwerk fan but this is undoubtedly a vibe and as I think we've said before on here they were clearly very influential on a lot of music, I guess I just wouldn't ever choose to listen to them
This had some good beats and was a kool vibe but can't say it was particularly memorable. Probably wouldn't seek it out to listen to again but definitely enjoyed it.
Beats beats beats beats. Yeah it's great
This was pretty blah. Kind of sounded like a very good AI was asked to make non-offensive rock music
This was pretty good and had some classic Beck tracks on it but overall wasn't as good as other Beck albums
It's bopping, it's hopping, it's KTOWN BANGIN' Got some real classic songs on there baby
I like the Grateful Dead and know they are a legendary band but just didn't quite click with this album like I have with others of theirs and I don't really know why. Maybe just not in the mood for it!
Excellent, what a thing that happened, wonderful stuff.
This is a banger of a live album. As I think I said with Motörhead before, I wouldn't usually listen to them but I'm happy when I do.
A pretty legendary band for all the people involved and the careers it started. It's amazing to hear so many sounds that can be applied to other later bands all coming through at once.
This was a complete banger! Took me by surprise. I've liked Janelle Monáe before but not done a deep dive on her older albums but this was outstanding. It was so diverse in sounds but still all felt very together as an album. Loved it
Funk! FUNK! FUNKY FUNK ALL OVER
I didn't mind this album at all but I don't think it was that good. Kind of sounded like a lot of things I like but just not good enough, a bit like the Offspring, Sum41, Green Day etc but kind of missing something which I can't put my finger on. But I did enjoy it.
Bit of a surprise, I didn't know what to expected but really enjoyed it
Really enjoyed this, an excellent album
Pretty classics sounds with a few bangers. I felt quite nostalgic for this album but to be honest, giving it a fresh listen I didn't love it as much I thought I would but it does undoubtedly have some bangers on it
Meh, it was okay, just more bloody metal ennit
Hmmmm, guess it was better than some of the others
A masterpiece in my eyes. I love this album
I had to do a presentation on Suede in GCSE music. I remember not really liking them then and I still don't. It's not terrible it's just not great. Like a less good Smiths.
I like this album but I don't love it.
What a load of shit. In the same way WWE is just a soap opera for hard men, this just consumer pop music for scary hard people
Not bad. Not as good as the other Stevie Wonder albums we've had though
I'd never really listened to the Stone Roses before, I always knew the name and the album cover but when it came up I realised I didn't know it. Probably for the best because I found it completely naff dad music, so boring and wet.
Great fun! I wanted to be there jigging away. I liked the bit where he basically said 'if your wife is annoying you don't go hitting her, go home, wake her up and give her a kiss'
I kind of get it. At times I like their style, it's very iconic and individual unlike some of the other heavy metal albums we've had, I just don't particularly like it in my ears.
I just found this a bit dull, nothing much going on. Sometimes I like that really simple, stripped back rock ballad stuff but usually it has to come as a one off amongst so really good stuff and this didn't have enough good stuff.
Fairly dull. Felt like more AI generated rock but this time from the early 2000s. Occasionally I found myself liking a short part of it but then got bored again.
A very excellent album. This is a very nostalgic album for me. I specifically remember singing Seven Nation Army on the way back from scouts in my friend's dad's land rover. Also I reckon it was the first song I learnt on bass... The whole album is great, such an excellent sound. I love Ball and a Biscuit, that guitar is PENG!
Quite enjoyed it but it did feel a bit repetitive. I really like Rod Stewart's voice.
Pretty good stuff. Got some good classics on it but I'm not in love with it
Yeah it's shit.
Wasn't sure at first, didn't sound like anything special but I was enjoying it by the end, got some funky fresh sounds. LL Cool Jay did a rap with Elmo on Sesame Street once.
What can you say? It's a masterpiece, I love it.
I love it. Gang of Four are great. I don't really listen to them by choice a lot but they are so deep rooted in my favourite genres that Spotify plays them to me all the time and I'm always happy with that.
I did enjoy this and it had some Neil Young songs that I really like on it but as we've said before I think he gets carried away in his live shows and goes over the top on what he thinks the people want
This was lovely jubbly stuff
Great blues stuff straight to the soul. Started as a 3 but rose to a 3.5 and settled at a 4.
Seemed completely up my street at first but I didn't find it particularly memorable, not bad though
WHAT AN ALBUM. It's a masterpiece. It holds such a place in my heart and I think it's such a great audio-time capsule of that time in musical culture. I remember when it came out I absolutely loved it but as the album got massive success there was a bit of a rejection of it for people who liked Green Day before this album and I think I then started to not like it as much. I then went and owned every single Green Album up to this one and they really are a phenomenal band in my opinion. Looking back at American Idiot as an adult all this time later I still think it's a brilliantly written album. Jesus of Suburbia is excellently put together and hearing something of that scale in this genre was mind-blowing for me, kind of still is.
An excellent album, a very nice departure from her classic folk sound but still retaining her style very well.
I can see how this is great and everything but I just didn't love it.
This occasionally had elements I really liked, some good punk bits and actually good rock bits but the overall sound was very forgettable and soulless. Not terrible but nothing special.
Good clean fun!
Like James Blunt without the bants. Guess it wasn't bad
ooooo what a banger
Really enjoyed this, it could really bop!
It's fabulous, but it's not the best. It's a very nice background album and a very nice sound. The song Tusk is incredible though.
Some pretty mad bits but altogether quite a cool album
I don' think I've even gone and listened to T.Rex despite them being a major influence in a lot of music I like. But I really enjoyed this album and fun to hear those influences in it.
I appreciate the album but I just didn't find it interesting. And I can't stand 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off'
I guess I can get on board with this. Not my favourite thing but pleasant enough!
Good stuff, nice and boppy
Excellent, what a legend
Pretty vacant to me. Just throwing a load of rock stuff at it but without much soul or heart.
One of my top 5 albums of all time for sure. Often overlooked by casuals for Born to Run and Born in the USA. It's such a gut wrenching tale of living in a shit town and wanting to break free from that monotony, and yeah yeah it's about being in the US but I think it can be applied to people the world over in so many situations. These lyrics, I mean coooooome on: "I've done my best to live the right way I get up every morning and go to work each day But your eyes go blind and your blood runs cold Sometimes I feel so weak I just want to explode Explode and tear this whole town apart Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart Find somebody itching for something to start" That's top quality. Prove It All Night is more of a crowd pleasing banger but the live versions are incredible. Then you've got Racing in the Street, such a good song about being bored with your life and just going racing in the street just to give your life some pazzazz. Eugh it's excellent.
Again, a very good album that for some reason I've never listened to before.
Not bad at all but not particularly memorable, had some vibes.
Pretty darn dull. I sometimes like country music but this was just a bit shit.
Well it was okay, wasn't offensive or anything but not my cup of macha. Every song sounds like the piano in 'have yourself a merry little Christmas'
Struggling to rate this. It was mad and long and it was long and it was mad. But then again it was very inventive and I know how influential Kraftwerk were at the time and how much they pushed boundaries and explored new tech so I can see how it's a good album in that respect.
Liked this. Never heard of it before. Reckon it would improve on a second listen but yeah it was good
I really liked this, it had a really good vibe.
Yes maaaaaaate, such a sound. Love it
Just found it a bit boring. Everybody Wants to Rule the World is very good but the rest was dull and all blended in together.
I do like Fleet Foxes but I don't love them. A nice recognisable sound but I always get a little bored.
Before seeing the cover of this I assumed it was going to be some mad 80/90s dance rave album. Oh how wrong I was. I did really like it and on the whole it's great fun and would love to go to a proper dance party with it live, however, I also felt I knew exactly what the whole album would be from the first couple of minutes, and I was right!
This was a goodun, proper. Good to hear some Rolling Stones that isn't the classic bangers
Overall I did like this. A lovely sound, very atmospheric for a different time and a different place.
Not really my jam but not bad I guess, had its ups and downs
Elvis is a weird one for me. He obviously has some bangers but I find it hard to listen to him without getting some boring ballady song. For the king of Rock and Roll there isn't enough Rock. But this album was pretty good.
I love this album. I think it's a much more honest Madonna, post her 80s heyday and pre her 'gone a bit mad' era. The production is really good as well. Not all songs are brilliant but overall I do like it a lot
This was okay, had some really nice guitar solos in it but overall it was a bit bland. Some dreary uninspiring lyrics and then a cool guitar solo.
I really love this album and a lot of early Van Morrison. Such a nice sound that you can just relax into, a right banger in my opinion.
Wahoooo! This is mad, I love it. Willie the Pimp was wild. I've heard of Frank Zappa and kind of knew who/what he was but don't think I've ever delved, now I've delved and I am happy about that.
Love it. I really love this sound. I've been reading a book about Riot Grrrl and Kathleen Hanna so I'm quite invested in the genre at the moment. It's such a raw sound and really feels like people just making music for the sake of music with proper political though and force behind it which I don't think you see as much these days because social media gives a simpler avenue for political opinion.
It's goooood stuff. Obviously very long but if you just think of it as two separate albums they are both excellent.
Not much to say except it's a banger, one of Radiohead's best which some tuuuuunes on it
Not bad but just not something I'd normally like to listen to. People love the Divine Comedy but I kind of just don't get it. I don't think it's bad by a long way but just doesn't seem that good.
Nope
Fabulous! Loved it. I knew a few of the hits but never listened to a whole album of his, I love the sound, it's great. I know it's treated as a bit of a novelty song but I think Coconut is a really good song.
Quite enjoyed this, felt nice and boppy and fresh. Didn't like the guy's voice much but some of the bass lines were really cool. Can't imagine I'll go back to it but glad I heard it
He's still pretty mopey but this was a lot more rocky than the last one we listened to. I find some of his lyrics too straight up sad boy but I guess he was a very sad boy. Preferred it to the previous one.
I like Happy Mondays generally and appreciate them but can't say I often listen to them. This was fine but didn't think it was anything special.
Pretty good, had a nice vibe listening to this.
Kind of found this a bit dull but not bad, just a bit vacant really.
Not bad but not great
God this was pretty dire. 'It's a mean old dusty highway but it's the only one', what the hell is that. This was almost like a parody of American trucker music. I guess it wasn't wholly bad, there were some nice solos and sounding guitars and his voice was okay but overall it was a cringe-fest.
Yeah I liked this. Good sound, good voice, nice beats. But I guess it's not so amazing that I'll come back to it a lot
It's niiiiiiiiice it's smooooooth. I like it when he said 'sexy sexxy lady'
Really liked this. I love the drum beats they use. Plus Flavor Flav wore lots of massive clock necklaces so that's a good thing.
I love this album. I remember when I first heard it as a teenager and it blew my mind because it just sounded so different to everything else. Bjork's voice mixed with the big bad but slightly muted beats just sounds so good. LOVE IT. Human Behaviour and There's More to Life Than This are standouts.
Loved it! Obviously knew the first song but I didn't know anything else. I really enjoyed the stripped back acoustic punk style. Definitely a keeper!
After the first song I thought 'oh this is gonna be a slog' but then it picked up a lot and I really liked it. Quite a lot of variety but all brought together by his voice, which sounds like Thom Yorke. Interesting fact, Rufus Wainwright is not the guy who banged on about lake district hills his whole life.
This was just what I needed when having a stressful day at work. Take Five is so chilled I nearly ended up on the floor.
I think their self-titled album is better but this is a good one. Love some of the guitar, it's all very symbolic of that era.
Trash.
Must admit I didn't really know this album but I really enjoyed it. Definitely something to come back to. Perfect for chilling and working
An excellent excellent, quite the bop.
Yeeehaaaaar cowboy. Enjoyed this. Got a bit samey but it was good fun
Unbelievable album. I ruddy love Jurassic 5
Enjoyed this a lot but found some of the lyrics a little problematic.
I didn't mind it but didn't love it. I think this was when Kanye's unhinged period was ramping up. I found a lot of the lyrics hard to follow was he was actually going on about. For example: No sports bra, let's keep it bouncing Everybody wanna live at the top of the mountain
I didn't love this, felt a little bland. The vocal bits at the end of Frisbee sounded like an Adam Buxton noise
Preferred it to the one before, fewer bangers but more consistent. And I'll repeat what I said for the last album: I very much like Damon Albarn but I have never forgiven Blur as a whole for bullying Nardwuar in his interview with them in 2003. They stole his hat.
I love this album, it's a banger. Reminds me of Josh Watson circa 2008-2010
Well what's to be said that hasn't already a million times. It's a masterpiece
A fantastic album. Bruce's first album that was just under his name and not with the E Street Band. Realised just when everyone was expecting another big rock banger and he goes and does this very slow, dark, sad acoustic album. It's great stuff.
Such a banger of an album. Ever track is a total banger and it's sounds as fresh as ever.
It's all good stuff
Love it. Such a banger. I remember thinking Stupid Marriage was such a funny song when I was a kid
Pretty enjoyable I must say
Enjoyed this a lot, it bopped.
Nice but I did get a bit bored by the end
Not bad, not always my thing but couldn't really fault it
It's a classic, it's a belter
Lord, he obsessed with women
Enjoyed this a lot. A lovely voice, some good beats. I do enjoy a bit of lady blues, country rock
Not bad at all.
I loved this. I prefer the older Johnny Cash stuff because I think his voice is more refined and the songs are more accessible
Love it, love the beach boys, makes me feel all summery and happy
Okay I have no idea what just happened but I absolutely loved it.
Love it. Funnily enough a song from this album came on straight after finishing the Beach Boys. Again, a really nice album with summery vibes
I just find them quiet dull. A lot of it sounds the same and I kind of forgot I was listening to anything when it was on. This is supposed to be their best album so I think that's a final nail in the coffin for Bono and the U2s.
I've definitely listened to this before and really liked it. I thought it was through doing this list but obviously not! Loved it!
Enjoyed this. Had some really good bangers but some of it was a bit samey...
Was prepped to hate this given the name but I loved it. Interestingly short but it reminded me of so many great punk bands all rolled up together.
I guess I quite liked this. It didn't excite me too much but it had some nice beats sounds and vocals
Not bad at all, good lyrics, recognisable vocals and beats
It's good, of course it is, however, ABBA have so many many great hits that anything that isn't one of them is a bit boring.
Yeah pretty good, such a 90s feel
What a crock of shit
SLAPPA' DA BASS MAN. Funnily enough I watched I Love You Man just the other day. Not a terrible album but it's pretty repetitive.
I liked this, it was really groovy
Well it's an excellent album
Pretty good but kind of all blended into itself
At first I thought 'wow I love being in Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite'. By the end I was very ready to leave the Urban Hang Suite. Unfortunately the buses weren't running and it's impossible to get a taxi at that time so I had to walk to the nearest station.
A fantastic album. Her voice is so soothing and perfect but I like the way it's quite unpredictable and sometimes just goes where you think it won't, same for the guitar and piano at times, creates a very varied sound. Like getting in a warm bath, which is weird because I don't like baths.
Well it's magnificent. Some great tracks on here and that version of Voodoo Chile is the best I reckon, very raw. Only bad point is it's very heavy on the stereo sound, pushing stuff all over the place which I think is a result of when that was popular and things were remastered
Found this a little cheesy, I always think of Van Halen as proper heavy rock but this felt a bit of cheese
I really like Lou Reed, his voice is great and his stuff is always so unique. Didn't really know this album despite being one of his big ones. Not as good as Transformer but still good
I guess it wasn't too back, it had some good beats and I was bopping along at times but it went way too hard on the whole Doctor thing.
This really surprised me. Never thought I liked Lorde and kind of disregarded her. I tried to listen to her newest album but wasn't sure. This however was pretty good! Occasional boring or generic bits but some really good stuff. Nice song structures and buildings of sounds. Good lyrics which nicely flow with the music, not just singing over chords.
Didn't mind it but didn't love it. Can't imagine I'd go back to this any time soon but I guess it had some nice parts.
I found it quite dull and winey.
I really like this album, a classic banger
Yeah, it's a great sound no matter what. The Byrds always transport me to the bit in Forrest Gump when he comes back from Vietnam and goes to Washington and there's all the protests.
Didn't mind it at all but it was fairly repetitive. Would enjoy all the tracks on their own but a whole album was a lot. Also, the Human League just makes me think of the electro episode of the Mighty Boosh. I AM ELECTRO BOY, I AM ELECTRO GIRL
Well that was an absolute blast. What a show that must have been!
Just pretty boring
Oh yeah baby it's smooth, it's so chic
YOU JUST CAN'T SAY NO TO DAN AND THE STEELYS
Ah this was great fun. Obvs the simpsons one was a highlight, great fun. I like the idea of them saying In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and then, hey let's make a 17 minute song out of this.
I ruddy love this album. Really transports me back to the heady days of 2009. Such a great sound, instantly recognisable and a legendary band in my eyes, so glad they've got new stuff coming out as well
Not the best Dylan and some of it sounded very very similar to older songs of his. But then again it's still Dylan and still really good.
I really like this album. I seem to remember it didn't get the best reviews but maybe that's not true. It was a surprise release and just popped out one day. I really like the title track The Next Day, it's one of my fave Bowie tracks. I really like the darker nature of this album, bit scary in places, such as on Lost is Love
A banger! I like this album a lot. In fact, Machine Gun was the last song that played on my MySpace page before MySpace died.
Blaaaaaah, at first thought 'this is okay actually' but it's just too much, I can sustain interest
I didn't really care at the time and I don't really care now. Sure Britney was popular and what not but still just a shit pop album in my opinion.
Pretty good stuff, a great sound but apart from the obvious White Rabbit and Somebody to Love, didn't think the rest was that memorable, just nice.
Great stuff from Leonard
Probably the first time in my life I've actually put Mr Brightside on. I've never really liked the Killers and always found them the ultimate mum band. This hasn't really changed my opinion. I guess it's not bad as such, I just don't care.
I found this tedious and boring. It's the British 80s electronica version of landfill indie in my opnion
I didn't know this at all before. It did take a while to warm on me but I really liked it. Fistful of Love was EXCELLENT. A great find.
The best Beatles album in my opinion.
Great stuff. Not the best Who album, I think they got to the best a bit later but really nice to hear this early stuff
Again felt this was too dad music for me but it wasn't too bad, just a little meh
This wasn't bad but I did kind of forget it was on
Not sure what I could say that hasn't been said so I'll just leave my rating
I did enjoy this quite a look, got some bangers
It's a total banger what more can you say. D.A.N.C.E was such a tune at the time, blew my mind
Another great from Mr Cohen
Sexy AF
eugh, once again.
One of my top fave albums. A tour de force.
Amazing, far too short. God bless Dolly
Not bad at all, did enjoy it a lot but kind of a less good Barry White. Plus isn't he a scientologist?
Hmmmm, not bad but not really sure I really got it... feel like it should be good and I generally like the Kinks but this was a bit weird.
I didn't mind this. Not what I expected at all. Feel like Prefab Sprout are a band I've always known of but not sure I'd ever listened properly. I found it fine in places but overall a bit forgettable.
it was good fun but it was a bit much. Can imagine it as background music somewhere but not sure I've ever put it on
I've never been a massive Prince fan. Tried to get into him a few times but it's never clicked really. He was a phenomenal guitarist (video of him doing While My Guitar Gentle Weeps with all the famous people is insanely good) but I just don't feel that comes through on this album, except in a very small segments. I think it's all too 80s for me but I appreciate it.
I've liked previous My Bloody Valentine albums but I found this a bit boring.
Not bad, put me in a nice mood. Felt like I was in a bar on holiday by a beach.
I do love Roxy Music, this is a belter!
I've tried to get into Sonic Youth a few times and although I generally do like them, it's never really clicked for me. That aside I did like this album
Well it's a tour de force. One of the National's best. Got some of the absolute bangers on it like Terrible Love, Bloodbuzz Ohio and Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks.
Not bad at all and he's a legend but it was a bit much by the end
Wasn't a fan of this at all.
Well it's a bloody tour de force isn't it. One of my all time favourite albums. Just phenomenal. Birdland is beautiful, long and excellent. Gloria is just excellent. I love Free Money, always gets me going. What an album.
I guess it's not baaaad but it's just feels a bit embarrassing. It's funny that Aerosmith are often considered a big heavy rock epic band but today it comes across quite cringey
Really good stuff, some classic Rolling Stones, love the very stripped back simple sound.
Very nice. I do like the Byrds a lot. It did get a little similar toward the end but it's all good stuff.
Started off quite nice and I thought it would be good but I got quickly bored
I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it either. The genre flew around a lot. Although I have no idea who Badly Drawn Boy is I feel like I can imagine exactly what he's like and I don't like him.
Twas good, twas fun, I do like CCR
Quite fun but not gonna get me listening again
Yeah it's a belter. I don't think it's their best album but it is great
Enjoyed this a look. A classic but not one that I can imagine popping on when chilling. Regardless it's very interesting musically and fun to listen to properly like this
I rather enjoyed this, think I was in the right mood for it, good fun!
Just delightful
I ruddy loved it, had a great vibe
Not bad at all but did wash over me at some points
Great stuff. Don't think I've ever listened to a full Happy Mondays album. Thought I was going to get bored of it or feel it's of an era that doesn't fit with me but I did actually really enjoy it.
I love Velvet Underground, even today it has such an individual sound. I must say I was NOT in the mood to listen to it today but I know I love it
A masterpiece, just fantastic
This was pretty cool
At first I thought I'd hate this, a bit too synthy pop for me, but I did really like it. Looked the band up, they look exactly as I thought they would.
I flipping loved this, thoroughly good sounds babe
I find Primal Scream a strange band, I don't know why but every time I listen I think 'this isn't what I expected' but I do like it
Good stuff. I never really listen to Queen, but obvs know a lot of their stuff anyway so it was nice to actually sit down and listen to this
Love Belle & Sebastian. I like how their sound is quite twee and nice but their topics can be pretty grim and the lyrics are cleeeever.
Yeah it's great stuff, they could've done well for themselves.
I really liked this. The woman is the voice on some Massive Attack tracks and I love her voice. Definitely a relisten for me!
Pretty good stuff. I like that you can understand all the words. And the beats are good.
I like Genesis sometimes but can't say I loved this. It's definitely interesting to listen to and fun but was quite hard
Excellent, love Fiona Apple
A fantastic album, a classic. The whole things feels so mid 2000s and although we were too young to understand a lot of the context of it it still transports me straight back to those days at school. The whole sound was so fresh for me then and so different I just love it.
A belter.
loada rubbish, boring, cheesy
Kind of the same as all Joni Mitchell but not bad at all
Fantastic album, still sounds as fresh as these years later
Just another dad rock album, couldn't really find anything exciting about it.
It was cool in places but and also nice to have some classic blues guitar but can't say it excited me too much
Excellent
Didn't mind this. At first I just thought it sounded like a less good Faces but after a while I got into it. Nothing to write home about but not bad.
We've had worse jazz albums, this was a groove I could get on with
I really liked it. Not every track was great but overall it's up my street. I love her voice but generally it comes across like a more pop version of the Distillers.
Lovely
Just another excellent Leonard Cohen albumbumbumbum
It was good, I liked it
Oh it's fantastic. However, on reading up I found out (which may be common knowledge to most people) that Elvis didn't write any of the songs on this album
God I just listened to this and now I can't even remember it except it was dull as dishwater.
Didn't mind this at all, nice folky vibe.
I think this is an absolute belter of an album. I love Alanis Morissette's voice. I think the lack of ironic things in the song Ironic have unfairly hampered Alanis' respect as an excellent artist.
meh, just another aerosmith album
I bloody love this album. Instantly takes me back to when I got into Van Morrison when I was about 17/18 and I love it.
I loved this, definitely going to be re-listening. A great sound, an excellent voice, nom nom nom nom
Had no idea what to expect but really enjoyed it. Had Carol King and Joni Mitchell vibes
Occasionally I thought 'oh that bit was good', but those times were few and far between.
Wunderbar
Nice and boppy, Got me movin' and groovin'
So that's what it's like to be stuck inside a lift....
Didn't mind this at all, wasn't the most mind blowing thing but good fun
Lovely, really enjoyed this on a Friday afternoon
I just bloody ruddy love this album. Bryan Ferry's voice is so good and the songs go all over the shop, you have no idea what's gonna happen but it all comes together perfectly. Whack a harpsichord in there, woah, it sounds great!
Goooooood weird stuuuuuuuff
God that was a slog, ocassionally an okay bit but mostly naff.
Enjoyed this a lot. Probably wouldn't rush to listen to it again but it was really good working background music.
This was mad but very imaginative and different, a wild ride.
Oh I just was not in the mood for this one.
A hoot!
I do like Randy Newman, he's got some belters but the filler tracks were a bit lacking on this for me.
Really enjoyed that, felt like it spanned a few different genres nicely. Never heard of Ozomatli but in looking them up found out they are friends with Jack Johnson.
I like the Beastie Boys, I appreciate the Beastie Boys, but I don't really often want to listen to the Beastie Boys.
It's an absolute belter. Love it all. Interestingly Welcome to Paradise was on Dookie but originally on their previous album Kerplunk.
Oh this was quite nice
BEAUTIFUL
Didn't mind it but didn't love it. I do like albums with loads of short tracks on though, just bashing out different sounds
New Order aren't really my kind of thing apart from the hits which are banging. I didn't mind this but it's just not something I fancy listening to much
I loved this. I don't think I've listened to their early stuff much to be honest and this was just really fun
Great stuff, got some of their bangeriest bangers on there.
Meh, pretty boring, just kind of 80s rock blah background.
Not bad at all, quite enjoyed it. Never heard of the band but it fit with a lot of other stuff I like
Good fun, could feel a lot of different influences in here, ska, folk, pop. Enjoyable but a bit repetitive by the end.
Just lovely and jubbly
Oh just fantastic, What a voice, what a sound, what a Joplin
I loved that. Pavement are a band I know I really like, I love the vocals and the sound but for some reason I don't listen to them often. Need to!
It's a beauty, I love it. Makes me feel 18 again.
I did quite this as a whole but I found it a bit all over the place, like someone just messing around in a studio.
All good, just more Steely Dan ennit.
A luvly bitta stoof
I did like this, the hits are excellent but found some of it a bit lack lustre and boring.
Just a superb album, I love everything about it. Dead Kennedys are the kings of satirical punk music and I love it. Holiday in Cambodia is my favourite, all about stupid american students who thinks they have gone to college and are now all worldly so they go on a holiday in cambodia knowing nothing about the atrocities that were occurring there.
She really is very good. I don't often find myself wanting to listen to Adele but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it.
Pretty good stuff Jimi
80s nonsense.
I didn't mind this at first, a bit cheesy but I could get on with it. By the end I was very bored. It's just one sound carrying the whole thing. I was very bored of that by the end. Don't think it was bad enough for 2 stars, but 3 seems too kind. I'll go for 3 because I'm feeling nice.
I kind of liked it but fairly dull overall. I can imagine it being quite nice if you were sitting in campsite with a nice beer.
Ahhhh, I just don't get Prince. It's not that it's bad, it just doesn't seem anything special to me at all. Sorry!
This really is one of the best albums of all time. It is strange that the song Maggot Brain is so different to the rest but it really is one of the greatest guitar performances ever. It was recorded when the guitarist was instructed to play what he'd play if he'd just been told his mother had died. The rest of the album feels quite different but is also excellent.
not bad, but far from the best Who album
This was great. All over the shop, guitars here, random noises there, boom, bing, bash!
Yeah I liked this. Some bits were much better than others and there were a few duff ones but a pleasant listen.
This really surprised me. I didn't mind it. Although it wasn't my usual cup of tea I found it more melodical and interesting than I thought it was. That being said I'd happily never hear it again.
Loved it. Love Paul. Love Simon.
Eugh. I thought this was better than some of the other Elvis Costello we've had but still don't like him. Why is he on here so much!
Well. Well well well. Welly welly welly. The everly bros sounds like winey little sexist piggies. Maybe, young man the reason none of the girls love you is because you keep telling them that girls were made to love. The music is great though, makes me think of the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in Back to the Future.
Quite liked it, didn't love it. I know the name but don't think I've ever had a proper listen. Was a bit repetitive but not bad
I've always wanted to like Sonic Youth more than I really do. But listening this properly just now if probably the most I've enjoyed them. I know they are very important and influential to a lot of artists I love but I just don't love listening to it all
This was pretty darn good. Not my normal thing to listen to but really enjoyed it. I only knew Super Rich Kids but it's a banger
Pretty darn good but bit repetitive, guess it was an innovative sound at the time though
Nice and relaxing, put me in a smooooooth mood.
Wow. That was quite something. All over the shop but in a good way. Found it quite captivating.
It's an absolute belter, one of my favourite albums of all time. Just perfection.
Well it's just a top total banger ennit.
Bloody Banger. Love it. Love the Pogues. Live Laugh Pogues. Fiesta gets me going, heart racing, bloody pumping.
Hmmm, it was okay I guess, sounds like B sides of the Smiths, stuff that just wasn't good enough to go on an album but instead it's just Morrissey.
It was fiiiiine, a bit nothingy but not bad.
I quite liked this. It was mad, and fun.
Well it's getting 5 stars.
Well I guess it's pretty lovely stuff, a bit too sickly sweet but it's nice eh?
Quite good but felt like the whole thing was just on one theme, Tom Waits talking over moody cafe music.
Not bad, had some good beat to it but generally not that inspiring.
It's a masterpiece for me! What an album. Tom Morello is one of the best, if not the best, guitarist in my opinion. I love everything RAtM stand for and they are such a good vehicle for their work.
Really good. I know Django Django a bit but only through osmosis, never really listened to them properly and quite enjoyed this.
This was pretty cool, good sounds.
When I saw the cover I thought, nice we're getting some punky mexican band. Was quite surprised by the sound but I did enjoy it a lot!
Not bad but kind of forgettable...
Love Beth Orton, gonna try and see her at Glastonbury. Great album.
well it's one of his best
This was lovely
This was a banger. Not usually into reggae that much except for the classics but I really got on board with this.
It started off very strong and I really liked it but it got worst and a bit boring
Quite nice for a background album but can't say it sparked joy in me.
Funky stuff! I did really enjoy it but can't imagine listening to it again.
I generally like Wilco but found this a bit dull.
Interesting stuff here, was quite the jam.
Blimey that was awful. I really tried to like it, and I did like Korn a bit when I was younger but it's just complete trash.
As the Fall go this was definitely one of the better ones I've heard. Never managed to crack them but this was fine.
I really liked this. The most I've enjoyed New Order apart from the obvious banger hits.
Ah I love it. I think Dire Straits are koooooool bloody cats. His voice is great and that signature guitar effect and style is so good.
This got me in a party mooooooood. Love it. Obvs Groove is in the Heart is an absolute banger but the rest was great too
I wanted to like it more than I did. At first it sounded great and up my street but it fell apart quite a bit. Sounded like AI had written a US punk rock album
Loved it. Right up my street. Some trivia, this is the band that Ian MacKaye was in before starting Fugazi.
Alright but nothing to write home about
I liked it, was nice background music, so cool experimental stuff but nothing I'd come back to
Jazzy, pumpy, good beats
A band on my radar but can't say I know them that well. Was pretty cool though
Kinda nice to have on in the background but it's basically just some bloke whining about women and being a dick.
Well it's perfect isn't it
Didn't love it, weirdly went from pumping 80s stuff to slow weird stuff. But I can it was quite out there at the time and definitely influential. Ask boomers about the video for Sledgehammer, they bloody love it.
This was fine, kind of interesting and fun but nothing special for me.
The much better end of Kings of Leon. I like this stuff but I do just get a negative feeling toward them from his voice because of the rubbish they churned out later.
Didn't mind this. Was a bit repetitive within the songs but general wasn't bad
I find it hard to rate because it's not my kind of thing but I do like having the odd more classical thing pop up on here. Don't really have any strong opinions on it to be honest.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would have on paper. Was hardcore and had some bangin' beatz.
Felt VERY 90s but I did enjoy it. Can't say I'll rush to listen to more of them or listen to this again but I did like it
Started quite promising, got quite boring
This is a banger if you ask me. I love CHVRCHES they are great. Except for when they let the guy sing.
There's just nothing here for me.
eugh
Not the good Pink Floyd stuff. Nice to hear their very early stuff and see where they are started off and hear the influences to their later stuff though.
more boring Elvis Costello
Ermmm well I guess it is what it is. It's not bad but there's only so long I can listen to this kind of dad rock and this felt like a looooong album.
Surprisingly good. I don't know much about the Monkees except they were off a TV show and in the Simpsons Marge had a Monkees lunch box and some horrible kid said to her 'you know they aren't even a real band', it was really sad.
It's good stuff for Run-D.M.C. as usual!
Wonderful, jolly and fun
This surprised me. I knew she was good but this is better than I expected
I can't say I ever want to listen to the Divine Comedy myself but having to listen to it certainly made me appreciate it much more. I think they are a band I'd enjoy seeing live
Thoroughly enjoyable. Just a niiiiice vibe
It's got some bangers for sure. But I really struggle to get past his silly singing voice.
Good stuff. Can't say I ever find myself wanting to go and listen to Sonic Youth but when I do I really enjoy it
Cheesy as hell but good fun.
Yeah it's preeeeeetty good.
This was a belter. I generally like the Stooges and Iggy Pop but can't say I listen to albums much but this was really enjoyable.
Just magnificent. What an album to end on. Lazarus is such a banger. The whole album is spectacular.
This was better than I thought it would be. I've always thought of ZZ Top as a bit of a joke band but this was banging
I've never understood the Darkness. I've never got how much of a 'joke band' they are. Do people actually like them and think they are good and take it seriously? Or is it all just a bit of fun, Either way, I feel like the music is just all copied from other older bands. Like the opening track sounds incredibly similar to an ACDC song and it's only his voice that makes it sound different.
This is a complete masterpiece.
Found this quite tiring
Loved it. Fantastic album. I knew Fugees but I don't think I really realised what they were and definitely didn't realise it was Lauryn Hill. Really good stuff.
Was fine, but that's it, sounded exactly like I thought it would. Not bad but not great.
Good stuff. I've never been a huge fan of Foo Fighters. I generally like them and get that they are good but I never listen to them. This was good to listen back to what they originally were before all the big hits got overplayed.
So I'd heard that the Bee Gees weren't really a disco band but that's just the bit they did that people know about. This was a pretty cool album and although I probably won't listen to it much I definitely thought it was well written, varied and interesting.
So of the pysch stuff was a bit much for me but when it got more bluesy I loved it.
I really liked that. I think th elive aspect made it feel like I was there. What a fantastic voice
Not bad at all, didn't love it but I certainly liked it
Absolutely fine but a bit boring
I didn't mind it but didn't love it. Thing is it's right up my street but just isn't that good. Like a worse version of the Distillers
Loved this. Really fun, amazing vocals of course and just popped.
Gonna give this a 5 because it's excellent but it's not one of my fave Bowie's
This is really good. Some amazing stuff on there. Was a bit weird the wide range of styles on there, I kind of feel that an album shouldn't just be loads of random different styles but then again they are all great.
This was interesting. Quite liked it. I looked the band up and they are very prolific, millions of albums.
Chole's right this is an absolute banger.
Luke told me about this album and it's an absolute banger, I love it. I even bought one of those books about great albums about it, haven't read it yet though. I really like the short songs, love the idea of going 'yeah we've got a great song, wanna enjoy it? TOO LATE that's all ya getting, NEXT!'
Absolute belter, I loved it. Definitely gonna listen to this again. Great stuff
Yeah I thought this was pretty good really. Not amazing but interesting
Definitely the best Kings of Leon album. Such a belter. Before they got really bad, this is such a nice fresh, simple sound.
God this was dull. Sounds like the inside of a live laugh love mum's head when she's dropped her only child off at uni.
Wow this was intense. Not my cup of tea but it wasn't bad.
Not great. I don't mind country when it's got a bit of pazzazz but this was boring. In fact, one good song came on and I thought 'oh this is pretty good' then looked and the album had finished and it was playing someone else haha
I liked this, nice and varied but some really good song writing. Never heard of this Lampchop fella
This was surprisingly good. I've always thought of 50 Cent as a bit of a joke but obviously he is very good and well known for a reason. Maybe he became worse over time as he got bigger? He did also have a PS2 game called 50 Cent: Bulletproof, but weirdly you could die from being shot...
Not bad but nothing special. Fairly bland. Like AI generate 60s rock.
Well this was smooooooooth. Made me want to be at a quiet beach bar with an aperol.
Nah, after reading Grace's review I looked into the album and yeah she's absolutely right. I think this is just some rich bloke who ripped off a load of stuff to make an album. I get what he was trying to do and there are positives to the music etc but he seems like a bit of a dick.
It's good stuff. I can't even start to think how you'd sit down and go 'yeah I'm gonna make an album like this'. He's so different in so many ways. Really enjoyed this.
This was pretty good. Not amazing, but I did enjoy it. Kind of faded into the background but in a good way. From the style and the date, it must have influenced a lot of stuff I like so can definitely see the appeal.
Ah I guess this was fine, just sounded like so much 80s moody synth stuff, nothing special but not bad
Well that was an absolute belter. Never heard of this band before and had no idea what we were in for but this was great. Blues, funky, rocky , it's got it all!
I still find U2 so blah even after trying them a few times through this. I can't stand Bono's voice which is probably a lot of it. Also, I looked up the album because I was interested in the subject matter and wondered where the album cover came from. I expected it was some famous photo of a child from a war but turns out it's just Bono's mate's kid, looking a bit sad. I find that a bit weird really, I expected it would have something interesting about it like the Rage Against the Machine album cover with the monk on fire.
That was like going to a contemporary art gallery. Is it cool? Yeah. Do you enjoy it? Yeah. Do you want it in your house? Nope.
It's good stuff. Got some bangers on it. Daft Punk are great but I think we get bombarded with the hits a lot and obviously they've done so much more than that
Love it. Such a sound, such a band. and thanks to Grace's review I learnt that the cover image was taken in the Regent's Hotel in Leamington Spa :)
Loved this. Didn't know this guy but read about him. Good mates with Woody Guthrie, as we know from that one song, and certainly sounds like him. Very good stuff.
Meh, same old Metallica stuff really
Wasn't bad, kinda liked it
Absolute belter. Johnny Cash is just a character and just sticks to what he is and what he knows. The whole prison gig thing is genius and his little talks between the songs give you a good sense of what he's like. Brilliant.
She undoubtably got a fantastic voice and these are good songs, but it just didn't really interest me, can't imagine actually listening to it for fun but it doesn't seem pretty good.
This was great. Really interesting, never heard of them or the album but it was cool
This was a lot for first thing on a Monday morning. I like some of the Progidy's stuff but this was quite intense.
I can't help but just find Joy Division a bit boring. I try, I do.
I do like Billy Bragg a lot but there's only so long I can listen to him. Great songs, well written, excellent sentiments but can get a bit much for me eventually.
I liked this a lot, it was calming and nice. She has a lovely voice.
Kind of fine but generally a nothingness for me. A bit AI-y . The vocals in track two were very familar, I looked looked up the guy from the band convinced I knew his voice. Anyway, it was actually Bobby Gillespie singing on that track.
Probably my favourite Kanye album, absolutely brilliant. Good mix of fun, serious, happy, sad, just hits the right notes. Shame he's a twat but it's a right banger.
Sigh. I guess it's not that bad but it's just the moment Kings of Leon got bad in my eyes. Sex on Fire is quite a shit song really. Use Somebody is fine but it's hard to enjoy these days as it was so overplayed back in the day.
I do like this album and it's definitely got that XX style but it feels like the structure has become much more generic and sounds similar to a lot of other stuff. The vocals and lyrics are definitely them but feels like they lost a bit of what made the XX so original and good in places.
Ermmmm, fine I guess. Very repetitive and not something I'd choose to listen to but I guess it was pumping and fun in places.
A right belter. Love it. Was a great mix of blues and country. Just when it felt a little too country for me, they swing it right back into classic blues. Beautiful stuff.
This was pretty nice. Not tooooo jazzy for me, nice vocals.
Can't compete with Chole's review so I won't bother. This is a belter. Exit Music (For a film) is such a great song, gives me chills every time, I ruddy bloody love it. This album has got some of the best of the best Radiohead. I remember my dad playing me Fitter Happier when I was quite young being like 'listen to this mad song', I had no clue what was going on.
Stansted?! Lovely album, very nice. I knew of this album already but never heard it. Definitely a keeper for when needing some peaceful music.
No Christmas for donkeys! That's a shame. This was probably the most I've enjoyed the Fall. Definitely got on board with this more than the others we've had.
Great stuff. Such a great sound, keep your guessin', keeps you groovin'
One of the best. Just brilliant.
This was pretty dull. It kept feeling like it was about to get going. It had kind of Lou Reed or Nick Cave vibes but very weakily done with no pazzazz.
Just boring, didn't interest me. Put me a bit on edge when the drums just do loads of fast bass, it's not cool, it's just always fast bass drums.
This was cool, I enjoyed my time with it
I just think it's complete nonsense. NONSENSE NONSENSE NONSENSE.
It's a total banger. I love it. Buffalo Stance is such a tune.
Good stuff, like it. I don't know why but Sexy Boy gives me a vivid memory of being in Fopp in Leamington with my Dad. No idea why, it must have just be playing one time and for some reason that memory stuck with me. Isn't the universe weird. FOUR STARS
Owwwwwh it's a tricky one isn't it. Obviously he's a massive creeper and that can't be forgiven. Listening to this without thinking about that, it's incredible album with some amazing songs and I really do love it. I loved Michael Jackson as a kid. I think in some situations you can separate the art from the artist but with Michael Jackson I just don't think it's possible really so I gotta rate it low. But talking just about the music, Man in the Mirror is exceptional and Dirty Diana is probably the best MJ song in my opinion. Smooth Criminal, it's all there. But yeah, dark stuff.
I do love ACDC. They are great fun. I think they are a band that people take too seriously, for me they are basically a big pop band doing heavy metal, it's silly, it's fun, a lot of it sounds the same, but that's fine. However, I do find that the best ACDC album is a greatest hits, because, each album only has a couple of bangers on it. This album only really has Highway to Hell and Shot Down in Flames, but the rest don't hit those highs. Still, I do love it.
I just love it. Everyone loves Nirvana but my gosh there's a reason for it. Their sound is just so damn good I love it all. I really love these bands who came up with such a new, niche sound for the time and then became hugely popular. Bands that came up with new sounds and became the front of a whole genre are just great, imagine just being some dirty weirdos at school and doing something like that. Mad.
Very forgettable. So much so that after it finished and went onto something else I struggled to remember what it was like. It's just kind of samey stuff. It sounds nice, I guess but it's just blah.
I remember my Dad giving me this album to listen to when I was about 15/16. I remember enjoying some tracks but generally finding it quite hard to enjoy. I still feel that way. I do really like it though. Kind of sounds like you're listening to something made for aliens, like you get what's going on but it's so jarring and strange. The levels of the vocals are weird, sometimes quite and distorted and the guitar just cuts through, but it's clever, it's like listening to music from a different angle or viewing it through a prism where it's all there but just built differently. Occasionally you go 'oh I understand that bit' and then it's wild again.
Yeah it's fine I guess. I would say I like the Jam but I never really listen to them by choice. Kind of faded into the background a bit but some tracks we pretty good.
Pretty good. Not something I'd rush back to but definitely enjoyed it
They're a legendary band and I hear a lot about them in music books and podcasts etc but I didn't love it. I guess it was a good history lesson though. They were such an early punk band it's nice to hear sounds and themes that carried through but not going to rush back to them.
I love it. It's been a long day, I can't be bothered to think of something interesting to say about this. Hi Chole and Grace!
I loved this. Really nice and just what I needed on a Monday morning at work. When it started I thought 'this sounds like Paul Simon's Graceland' then I thought 'wow, you hear one South African band and you straight away think it's the one off of Graceland, aren't you awful' Anyway, turns out, it is the band off of Graceland.
Great stuff, what a sound.
Well it's a banger that's for sure. It does sound weirdly old and a lot of tracks have been so overplayed in life that it's hard to enjoy them. But putting that aside as much as possible, listening to this the first time not knowing the songs as all, it will have been amazing.
I do like Goldfrapp but don't love. This was pretty good but it's not something I'd listen to often but when it's on the radio I'm quite happy
Overall liked it yeah and I do like Basement Jaxx, in fact, saw them on Saturday with Will, but too much of it strayed into filler stuff which I'm not interested in. Naturally I prefer their hits which feels more like regular songs, but that's just me, not a big DJ guy.
I quite liked this but can't say I'll come back to it, not particularly memorable, but fun none the less.
I love Pulp, they are great. I love the lyrics, they are so simple and to the point usually. Jarvis' voice is so iconic and the general theme is excellent throughout. I prefer Different Class to This is Hardcore but it's still a banger
This was pretty good fun!
Well this was fascinating, can't say I loved and would listen regularly but it was very interesting to hear. Never heard of this guy.
This was great, right up my street. I've not listen to Siouxsie and the Banshees much, just the hits and the ones Tidal plays to me but I generally like them.
I find this so vacant and boring. I like a few Pet Shops Boys hits but after a couple of songs it all sounds the same to me and it's too synthy and I don't like the vocals.
I love this album. I love the tracks about different characters. I always found the Aqualung character himself compelling and the album artwork is really cool. Also, rock flute is always nice.
I guess it was fiiiiine but nothing more, just american man guitar music.
Definitely a banger for sure. Not as good as Loaded but still a banger.
Honestly, I can't believe Luke said they are one hit wonders, that guy is an IDIOT HOLE. Jokes aside, this was boring.
It's a very beautiful album. I don't often listen to it because it's so slow and depressing but it is damn good.
Lovely, an absolute belter right here.
This was pretty cool but nothing special for me
Love it, they have such a fun sound. I love hearing the Talking Heads influences but it's like they just went and had fun with that similar sound and did what they want without Mr Byrne hanging out. Like the Dad was out and they messed around
My Dad likes Hawkwind. They are weird. But it's interesting. Can't imagine ever wanting to chill out and have a listen but it's cool stuff in places and weird in others.
Quite inoffensive but not a big fan of the Jam
This was great. I usually only listen to the hits for ABBA but it was good to listen to an actual album in full. That opening track was a banger!
This was great
I saw Chole's review and she's right, this is just a copy of Happy Monday's. So similar. Like A Bug's Life is to Antz, this is just a lesser version of something great.
Can't rate this anything higher than 1, what an awful person.
So this is one of the lowest rated albums on here and I've been prepared for it. As a massive Nick Cave fan I've known of this album for a long time and I think I did listen to it after reading a biography of Nick Cave a long time ago. I was prepared to hate it but I actually found it really interesting. It's chaotic, it's jarring but you can see the basis of what Nick Cave became from this. I think his voice is excellent and the chaos mixed with the musical side is really cool. I can't say I'd ever pop this on on a Sunday afternoon listen or maybe ever again but it's certainly got merit musically.
This was cool, I liked it. Had some variation in what genre it was in places but generally I liked it all enough! Great band name.
Pretty good, just more Elvis stuff really!
This was EXACTLY what I thought it would be from the album cover. Enjoyable for sure.
Pretty good. Rod Stewart has a great voice and this was fun
Meh, nothing special, bit annoying but oh wel
I quite liked the first track, found it really interesting but there's only so much of this kind of music that I can listen to. It's definitely interesting and clever but just too much for me
I love Faces. Yeah it's just classic rock 'n' roll but it's great fun. Rod Stewart's voice is so good in this. Funny we had one of his albums just the other day.
Definitely the best Nick Drake we've had. It's really good. However, I don't love his voice, it doesn't click with me. Regardless, it's definitely got great lyrics, lovely guitar and all.
This was great. I've only ever heard the hits but this was epic and cool. I can here the influence of this on so many different things. Specifically one song which sounds very similar to one on the Pokemon album '2B a Master'.
Pretty good but nothing amazing. I do like Siouxsie and the Banshees but they aren't a band that I choose to listen to that often, just the odd song that comes up.
It's a pretty good album. I remember not really liking Scissor Sisters when this came out but I was probably just anti-pop. But I don't think you can deny this is a cool sound. There are a couple of duff tracks but overall the bangers do bang.
This is just general generic rock, but I do like it. Lenny Kravitz certainly has his own sound and style but it's all just 'hey hear these guitar riffs yeah?!'. But that's fine by me, it's good fun.
Pretty good yeah. I've not really listen to Norah Jones before, just one of those musicians you kind of know but I couldn't have named any songs. I enjoyed that though, it was nice.
Ermm, I guess it's not bad but it's just kind of 80s synths and nonsense. I guess I don't mind this music but I'd never listen to it myself, it just kind of appears in films and whatnot and that's fine.
This was excellent, what a great album. Working Class Hero is fantastic. I remember it blowing my mind as a teenager, so good.
I love this album, it's a banger. Some really nice guitar, song writing, great lyrics. Only criticism is that Revelator is by far the best song and does sound a bit out of place with the rest for style.
Quite liked this. I think I may have heard of the band before but can't say I know them. It was pretty interesting and individual but didn't blow me away.
It's good yeah but not the best for a Who album. It seems strange to me because even though there are good whole songs on it, it really does sound like a film soundtrack which is strange for this list.
Must admit I'd never heard this before and although I knew the name, I didn't really know who Bad Company were. But this was your standard classic rock, no more, no less.
This was like the soundtrack to a jazzy cyberpunk style anime TV show. Specifically sounds like the soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop. Top 1001 albums of all time though? nah,
This was fun!
This just sound a lock like just generic rock but seeing as it was written in 1968 it's pretty cool. I'd happily have this playing in some grimy rock pub
Not Shaquille O'Neal. Was quite boring, nothing special at all. Thinking about the time, 1999. Would have been crap then and crap now.
This is pretty good. Gary Gilmore's eyes is the best. I remember my dad singing that song to me when I was little which is a bit weird thinking about the context of the song.
Not bad at all. Was quite good to have on in the background but nothing amazing for me. There were places where it sounded like Radiohead, just an observation.
Good fun! Enjoyable and relaxing
I like it, I don't love it. It's very long. A bit like Chole's review, my Dad loves this album. And I get it. It fells like a lot of effort to get to some really cool bits.
Great stuff. I don't really listen to Joy Divsion much bit this is a great album, no denying it
This is a great album. Not much else to say.
It's a bit blah but I guess it's a fairly unique sound. Would be 2 stars but it gets an extra cause Black Hole Sun is just an absolute banger.
Nothing special on this one.
I guess this was fine. Just Morrissey stuff.
This wasn't bad but it did sound like background music for a 00s video game.
I guess it's fine but it's all pretty similar. They do have a good sound but after a while it gets boring
I bloody love Sheryl Crow. She's fantastic. Saw her at Glastonbury in 2019 and she was so so good. I really enjoyed this album but I definitely wouldn't say it's her best. Her self-titled album which came next is definitely the best and the one after that is also great so I'm surprised this album is here, nonetheless, it's great.
Best Sonic Youth we've had yet I think. Connected with it more than the others.
I really enjoyed this. I can't say I know Lupe Fiasco well at all. I know Kick Push cause that's a right banger. But I have a feeling my brother played me this album when it came out cause it feels very very familiar. I really enjoyed it.
I feel very old saying this but, what is this Dizzee Rascal saying? For me you need to be able to hear and understand rap like this, surely that's the whole point, the lyrics need to be really good and say something, but with this I just can't follow it so I just lose interest very quickly. People always say that grime is all about the gritty UK and whatnot, and I want to listen to that but I just can't follow it. I guess grime just isn't a genre for me but I'm glad that I've been made to give it a good go here. Sometimes you just need to accept something is for the kids and the important bit is to be able to look across to them and think 'I'm glad they're having a good time'
Generally just thought it was nonsense. I guess it's not really made for me to be listening to at work sitting at my desk, but that being said, I'm not really interested in being wherever it was made for.
Pretty darn beautiful stuff
I liked this and it's clearly some great stuff but I didn't love it. I can see the influences on a lot of bands I like. Looking at her massive discography I reckon there'll be some others in there that I'd like but this felt a little like it was country with more of a rock twist and I think I'd prefer the traditional stuff.
Got some bangers on it for sure. Really weird that the UK and US versions are so different. The US one changes Mother's Little Helper for Paint It Black and has like 4 few tracks because apparently shorter albums did better in the US. Wild.
I didn't really know Fiona Apple except in passing before this album came out but I really love it, it's so good. And great to have so much of her stuff to be able to go back and explore.
Oh maaaaan. This is a right 00s indie banger. Seeing this came out 17 years ago does make me feel quite old. None the lesson I think it holds up pretty damn well, it' still a fresh sound, very recognisable, so it doesn't fall into landfill indie at all. I looked up what the Klaxons looked like in 2007 and surely they must have been sponsored by Topman, bright coloured cardigans and buttoned up polo shirts.
In my opinion the best Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album. It's a complete tour de-force. I don't think there's a bad song on it. The two 'sides' or 'acts' of the album are very well done with the first being all angry and aggressive and the second much softer. O Children is one of my top favourite songs ever and There She Goes My Beautiful World is up there with the best Nick Cave songs.
You know what, I like the Doors but I don't love them. After a while it all sounds the same. They definitely created a good sound and were very pioneering and all that but I simply don't like listening to them for more than a few songs.
Blah, I guess it was kind of pleasant but I'm just not interested.
This was quite dull, just the same sort of thing all the way through, wasn't bad, but it just wasn't anything interesting.
I think this was fine, quite good but nothing amazing
Meh, just 60s hippy stuff. Good and all but quite forgettable
I have never settled on how much I like Belle & Sebastian. On paper I do like them, when I hear them in films or the radio I like that, but whenever I go to listen to them I get a bit bored after a while. I've listened to a few albums of theirs and they generally all sound the same to me. For a band that have been around so long I really would expect them to change their sound but it's all the same stuff. It's not bad at all, just not brilliant.
I imagine this is a very love or hate album. I love it. I really like her voice find it very captivating and the way she structures her songs is great. Crazy that she's married to Andy Samberg, what a pairing
This was cool. I didn't know this guy but loved this album. Really individual. The opening track was great, really gripping and took me by surprise. Next was also a standout track. Good stuff.
I guess it had interesting bits but it's not fun to listen to.
Meh, it was okay. Had some good guitar in places but was generally quite forgettable.
I really liked this. I never say I'm a fan of Lana Del Rey but I've listened to her a bit more recently and she is undeniably banging if you are in the right mood. I thought the first track was brilliant, really took me by surprise. There's some really good song structures on this album, very good writing.
Hmmm, a weird album. It's the original Pink Floyd guy, he was a very interesting man. This album is all over the place and feels like a demo of someone who clearly had some great ideas. I'm giving it 3 just because he was clearly onto something and it's pretty good.
This was great. Had no idea what to expect from the name and the intro but it was really good. I'll definitely listen again.
Love it. I could listen to this kind of blues all day.
It's definitely a banger. I played Rock n Roll star on bass for my GCSE music exam.
Pretty good, solid, sounds like The Undertones all the way through, not much more to add
Hmmm, was better than some other jazz we've had, slightly more palatable but still not my cup of tea
This was fine, bit weird and not very captivating
Ahhh, what a fantastic album. A tour de force. I bloody love this album and it holds up so well. It really takes me back to be being a teenager. The album has such a feel to it. I love the things like random whistles, guitar sounds, shouting etc, it sounds chaotic but all together. Pete Doherty's lyrics are so good, really poetic and beautiful but then put amongst this chaotic sound and the whole world he was living in make such a juxtaposition, it's great. Stay off the drugs Pete.
This was good. Can't say it was anything special but it was right up my street.
This was cool. He has a really nice voice and there was some really interesting bit. Can't say I'll listen to it a lot but I'm glad I have.
I don't mind this. It's fine. Scooby Snacks is a banger but in general I don't think the album was that good but it's good to have in the background and not bad
Some when I listen to the Who for a long time it all sounds the same. I do really like them but it can be a bit much after a while. And Chole's right, A Quick One, Whilst He's Away is mad and creepy.
This was really cool, loved it. I recognised the guys voice straight away then realised why when I heard 'Even after all'. It was on a compilation album put together by Jack Johnson that I used to listen to a lot. He's got a really cool voice.
Not bad, but pretty standard psychedelic rock. The guitar at the end of Doctor Please was a bit too much for me, which is saying something.
This is pretty cool, nothing amazing but was good. Liked some of the guitar solos
This is excellent. I knew the track 'Television is the drug of the nation' already, not sure where from, but the whole album was great. I was listening at work but kept getting distracted wanting to listen to what this guy was saying. Really cool
Ermm guess it wasn't bad but it was very forgettable. Just a bit bland.
I quite enjoyed this. Nice background music, can't complain
This was great. Thoroughly enjoyed
What a load of nonsense. Sounds like some talented people just decided to mess about and make stupid things that occasionally almost sound like they could be good.
I enjoyed this. Listened to it whilst driving and it got me all hyped for driving. I like M.I.A., her lyrics and style are still really individual.
The Vines is the most indie band name I've ever heard. This wasn't bad, nothing special but not bad.
This was fantastic. Very long but fantastic. Looking it up on wiki I think the original was just a double album and we've got a 3 volume set on spotify which I think is waaaaay longer but it's hard to tell so I just listened to the whole thing. It's great. I love Van. His songs are energic but also calming and nice, some really cool rock and roll but then nice folky stuff. Just cool.
I did really try with this album. But I do find them so dreary and dull. They have a few good songs but even the best songs I find quite boring. Coldplay just feel like brown soup to me. Yeah, it's serviceable and will keep you alive but it's just bland and every bit is basically the same.
This was really cool, I liked it. Great build up, reminded me of Mogwai a lot.
Lovely stuff, very much enjoyed
Great stuff, classic Simon & Garfunkel
Hmm, this was a bit too post-punk for me, but didn't hate it
Interesting and cool, put me in a good mood
This was cool, kind of generic 70s rock but still pretty good. Far too much panning on the guitar solos on some tracks. You don't need to pan completely from one side to the other multiple times, it's doesn't make it cool. Making my head spin, but not enjoyably.
Not bad, but definitely not the best from Goldfrapp.
Perfectly pleasant nice stuff. Would be 3 stars but California Dreaming is just too good it gets a whole star for itself.
Not bad, but nothing special for me
Good but not amazing, a bit repetitive for me.
I bloody love Sleater-Kinney. Love this album. I prefer their later album the Woods but this is a complete banger as well, happy it's on here. Such a great band, I love the whole history of the music in that period and the connections between them and Bikini Kill and the Riot Grrrl music and more current with St Vincent etc. I'm a big fan of Carrie Brownstein, I read her book recently and it was great. Like a few music docs and books I've read it ends quite sad all like 'and the band is over and I'm sad' but now 10 years later Sleater-Kinney they've had like 3 new albums which are great haha.
This was a weird one. Part of it was really progressive and cool and then sometimes it just collapsed in 80s rock nonsense.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's a K-Town Banger!! Just perfect.
This was pretty cool. Very background music but quite fun.
I've never really listened to, seen, read or smelt Tina Turner, but this was pretty cool. I know the hits but not much else. Not my normal kind of thing but it was definitely high energy and pumping. Some of it reminded me of Eurythmics
A really cool album, not as good as other Bjork in my opinion but still pretty awesome.
It was fine but definitely had creeper man vibes. Nothing better than a lot of other stuff from this era.
I don't know why but britpop just seems to sound so lame to me now. Even though, this is a cool album but a bit repetitive.
Lovely to listen to on a Friday afternoon, nice and boppy
Good fun, pumping and jamming
Found it a bit bland and unmemorable, not bad just nothing special
I thought that was brilliant, Loved it.
Bit weird, I didn't mind it but can't imagine I'll go listen to it again any time soon. What's with the fish cakes song?
Hmm, I find the War On Drugs weird. I like them in theory, I think his voice is really cool and some of the guitar is sweet, but it all feels a little deflated for some reason. This album was good but it fells like someone is rocking out but in the room next door. Their song I Don't Live Here Anymore (not this album) is incredible and I love it but then when I go to listen to the rest of their stuff like this album I just feel it's a little blah. But I still enjoyed it.
Quite dull. Was a bit all over the place and kind of sounded like less good versions of other things from the same time. Dare I say landfill prog rock?
This was cool, a nice vibe.
An excellent album, got some belters on it.
Great fun. Good beats, excellent voices. B-52s are often just through of as the rock lobster and love shack people but I think there's a lot more too them that those two.
It's not as banger filled as other fatboy slim but I think this is undeniably a fantastic album. I really enjoyed having it on at work.
Bloody brilliant. Trampled Under Foot is such a tune, that riff is so tasty. It's probably one of the earliest songs I remember hearing, aside from nursery rhymes I guess.
Lovely stuff. Neil Young's guitar sound is so iconic, it sounds so simple, low on effects but gives such a great sound. Also his solos are really not complicated but sound so great.
I guess this was oaky but didn't sound like anything special to me. Had a few rock hits but didn't blow me away
Oh what can I say, it's a banger. Obviously one of the most iconic Bruce albums. Crazy that it's his 7th album that is the one most people think of for Bruce. It's got some of his best on it. Downbound Train is phenomenal, Cover Me is rocking. Obvs Dancing in the Dark. Glory Days is excellent blah blah blah. HOWEVER, it also has I'm On Fire which I always skip because the opening lyrics are weird: 'Hey, little girl, is your daddy home? Did he go away and leave you all alone? I got a bad desire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire' Weird but I guess it's just the way people talked then, still strange though. Annoyingly the song is great and the lyrics get really good later in the song like this: Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull And cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my skull At night, I wake up with the sheets soakin' wet And a freight train runnin' through the middle of my head' ANYWAY, BELTER
This wasn't bad, generally my cup of tea but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would to be honest.
Absolute rubbish, just felt like a waste of time, like someone told them 'just make an album, doesn't matter what it's like'
I love this album, such a great sound. Polysyrene's voice is superb, adding saxophone to this kind of music sounds so good. I think X-Ray Spex aren't shouted about enough, they pop up in a lot of music books I read but they never seem to be front and centre, they are so good!
Guess it ain't bad but nowdays just feels like the ultimate in classic rock, not bad but nothing special
Sometimes I love Tom Waits, sometimes I can't stand him. I definitely struggle to listen to a whole album...
Loved it, I only know him from Crosby, Still & Nash (& Young) fame, so was nice to hear what he was also up to. Good stuff.
Not bad. I didn't know this band at all, weird name for a band. I liked it but it didn't blow me away
This is a name I've known but can't say I really know who they were. This was good though, really enjoyed it.
George Michael is clearly a great song writer and some of his songs like Freedom 90 and Faith are ultimate bangers but this album was a little cheesy for my liking. But I definitely appreciated it.
Not bad, all sounds the same but all good I guess. Exactly what I expected.
I guess it was just 'more Neil Young' but this did stand out as a particularly good Neil Young album. I didn't know it before and was really good, it seemed to bridge the line between just hardcore guitar solos and pure folky songs. Really nice bluesy sounds.
First album I ever bought. Bloody love it still, it's amazing. I listened to it so much as a kid and had the CD as my alarm in the morning for school. Still sounds amazing, still sounds original and has some really different sounds in there. What a belter!
A phenomenal album. So many great tracks. Where do the children play? is so good, Wild World is excellent. Father and Son is brilliant. And the Tea for the Tillerman has no right to be that good and only one minute five seconds long. Then all the tracks inbetween are a blast. I bloody love Cat Stevens.
Well it was okaaaay, bit boring.
eugh, really nonsense. I HATED his voice, it was so bland
So I knew the song Rip It Up, which is okay, a bit cheesy. But then the rest of the album, especially the following song felt completely different. Overall I didn't mind the album but didn't love it.
Really good stuff from the king
This was pretty good I guess, kinda fun.
Eugh, go away Elvis Costello. I really can't stand him and this is our 5th album by him
Yeah not bad but nothing amazing. I've got the drummer's table and BBQ in my garden. True fact.
This was great, not what I expected it to be. Nice punky sound and very freeeeesh
Nice background music and a bit different but nothing special
I think I'd heard of this band but didn't know their music. As soon as it started I recognised the vocals as from Protection by Massive Attack, then found out it's Tracy Thorn. I've got one of her books are home to read. Interesting stuff! As for the album, it's quite cool, weird and ballady but she's got a great voice. I really couldn't place it. It sounds really cheesy but does have a bit of edge to it in places.
I really liked this one. Felt quite different to other Byrds stuff but it was cool. Really classic and you could hear all kinds of influences in there, must be great fun to play this kind of music.
A classic album. I liked it and it had some great bits but also some really long drawn out boring parts.
Pretty good. Nice and jammy
Oh it's just glorious. What a magnificent, wonderful album. Gets me so pumped. Obvs Bat out of hell is the ultimate banger. But Paradise by the Dashboard Light is just great. The whole thing is great. I love watching youtube vids of meatloaf, he was so epic. The whole thing paints such a great image. LOVE IT
Could anything sound any more 2009 alt-indie? No it could not. I've never been a big fan of Animal Collective but always been aware of them. I guess I quite liked the album yeah. It was a bit samey and kinda felt like it was all coming off of one idea but not bad.
Meh, guess it wasn't bad but it's nothing special, sounds like all UB40
I didn't really connect with this. I knew a few tracks and there's some catchy ones but on the whole it felt a bit silly and talking about smoking, pussy and being a dogg.
That was great. Definitely one to add to my regulars
Meh, they are just a wet Pulp. I remember I had to do a presentation about Suede for GCSE music. I remember thinking they were really boring then and really boring now. I guess there were some nice guitar breaks on some of the better tracks but I generally have no interest.
A weird one. I don't know a lot about the KLF but I know they were a weird band and did big stunts and burnt a load of money and what not. The book about them is supposed to be really good and I'd like to know more. In terms of music it was not my kind of thing, interesting in places but who knows.
Dog shit
I really liked this. Funny how it's called Surf's Up but to me it didn't sound like the usually beach boys all going 'hey we love the surf baby let's go surfing all the time', it felt a bit more nuanced. Also, the album cover is wild. Compare that to Surfin' Safari, it's like a bloody ringwraith, definitely not rainbow rhythms
I just didn't get it.
Wow. It's complete utter crap isn't it. Or is it? I genuinely don't know. From listening to Robbie on various silly podcasts I get the impression he really doesn't care for his music and kind of talks about it like just doing his 9-5 job that he doesn't really care about but hey that's what he does. And it sort of feels like that here, his voice is so recognisable but it really sounds like his hearts not in it. Never the less the fame of Robbie is very impressive and I know all the words to Angels and Let me entertain you even through this is probably the first time I've ever actually chosen to listen to them.
What an excellent album. Although not my overall favourite Radiohead album, it has my top two songs as openers. 2 + 2= 5 and Sit down, stand up. I can never decide which I prefer but they are so banging. The whole album is fantastic.
Excellent. I don't really listen to Pixies that much and I never know why cause they are so good, need to put them in my rotation a bit more.
Hmmm, for some reason I thought the Charlatans were a 00s indie band. This was fine I guess, sounds like all britpop which I'm not a massive fan of, I think unfortunately britpop got a bit overplayed for me and I'm bored of it but I guess for the time it would have been great.
Strange having the same artist again so close together. But again, it was great! I think I prefer Surfer Rosa but this is also very good
Great stuff, packed a punch, would have been great fun to see.
Yeah pretty good. Not something I'd go back to really but I did enjoy it.
Good stuff!
Not bad, not really my thing completely, a bit wailing 80s for me but not bad.
It wasn't all bangers but was pretty darn good. Can't say I've ever listened to Destiny's Child properly but glad I have now.
Well it was Bobbles at the top of his game, what's not to like?
I don't think I've ever actually listened to this album but I know it was a proper classic and knew a lot of the songs. It was brilliant.
As if, we see them at Glastonbury and then have this album! Well it's obviously a certified K-Town BANGER! SO GOOD. Someone Great is my fave LCD song for sure.
Well it's an absolute belter isn't it. Hot Chip are grand as they come. DON'T DENY YOUR HEART
Like a boring version of Gorillaz. Just felt a bit bland.
Hmm, I found this hard to rate. The singles are fun but the nostalgia for this for me is being at school and everyone banging on about how good Muse are and I just didn't like them. 'oh they are musical geniuses and their music is so clever and complex', yeah okay but it sounds boring. I always thought they were the poor man's Radiohead. However, trying to listen afresh I guess it is different to a lot of stuff, very much has its own style and kind of fun but I have no interest to listen in my own time.
That was utter tripe. Give up and go get a job.
This was cool, really enjoyed it. You can heard so many influences of later west coast punk in this. Must have had a big influence on Tim Armstrong because it sounds a lot like Rancid and Transplants in places.
It was good but it was mostly the same stuff throughout. Not bad but nothing extra special for me.
Okay that was utter dogshit. I've never liked Justin Timberlake but I thought I'd give this a good listen and try to appreciate it but it was full of so much crap. Yeah Cry me a river and the other hits are okay but they aren't good.
This was quite interesting, a bit all over the place in genre but it was good background music.
I guess it was okay but really nothing special, just big rock rock stuff and sounded like loads of other bands but more bland.
The singles were really good of course but the rest was rubbish, just a lot of filler for some singles.
I love this album. Such a great sound, some absolutely bangers. Yeah it's a little cheesy in places but I think it's on purpose and adds to the complete album.
There was NOTHING in that to enjoy, just some blokes fleecing a load of arty people and laughing at them when they say it's good.
Didn't think much of this. Sounds just like generic 90s club fodder to me, not really my bag.
Good fun, got me bopping.
Pretty good, I like Alice Cooper but a lot sounds the same. I much prefer his album Trash, that's the one I think of when it comes to Alice Cooper
Well it was pretty much all the same but I did enjoy it. Yeeeehaaaa
That surprised me! I was ready for some proper indie landfill but it was pretty good. I thought the lead singer sounded like the guy from the Zutons, and actually thought they generally had similarities, looked them up and they are also from the Liverpool area.
Pretty meh, just felt like a random clubby album but nothing special
oh man. This is cringey as hell. BUT I also remember loving it at the time and it all seemed so cool. It is pretty silly stuff but you have to admire that it was pretty different from a lot of stuff at the time and definitely felt like a 'new genre' for teens, even though it probably wasn't, they just threw some disc scratching and rapping into some rock.
Great stuff of course, it's fabulous. Don't know what else to say. I think Come Together is probably one of the top 3 Beatles songs in my opinion.
Really good but very long, would have been better to pick the best tracks and make it at least just a double album, but all in all, song great songwriting
It was pretty different to what I expected to be honest. It was interesting and cool but not sure I loved it.
Was fine but nothing special really.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would when it started. It was a bit repetitive but had some cool beats and was good fun. I guess some of the features of the album has been so overused in this kind of music over the years it's harder to appreciate the early stuff but it was cool.
I can see why this is a good album in its field but I just found it hard and boring and loooooong. The drums just sound the same on 90% of the songs
Bloody loved this. So good. Desert blues is such a nice genre I could listen all day. I'm glad I know about this guy now.
Well it's good stuff, proper classic rock. Kind of all sounds the same but it's good fun right
Ah I really like this album. It's problematic in a lot of places sure. But it's some so absolutely bangers on it. My Name Is, Rock Bottom and Still Don't Give a Fuck is great. I bloody loved Eminem as a kid, starting with the Eminem Show when he got really big but I remember listening to all this when I was like 12, which seems quite weird when you properly listen to the lyrics.
Ah that was nonsense. I found the mixing of it really weird, almost like I could have liked it if it was better balanced but it was all over the place.
Ermmmm, well it was just a load of old piano jazz. I guess it wasn't as insulting as some of the experimental jazz but still it just isn't my thing. Parts were quiet pleasant to have in the background.
It was fine but a bit bland. Just sounded like any old band from that era and genre. Landfill 60s I guess.
It's great cause it's the White Stripes and I love them, but being critical, it's definitely not their best album, it's got some bangers but not at the same high level as others are.
I do quite this album and I knew it a bit beforehand. Fuck and Run comes up on my spotify a lot. But I wouldn't say I love this album, it's just quite cool and atmospheric.
Good stuff, these guys are gonna be big.
Well in isolation it's a great album and has some of Michael Jackon's best songs on it, absolute bangers, but I can't give him a high score can I?
Oh no. This was nonsense. Sounded like the music from a very mediocre musical. Definitely not a banger.
Good stuff of course but not his best, not as many bangers but was lovely to listen to.
Great stuff, classic smiths. All good.
Absolutely terrible. I remember having this album, or rather my brother probably had it. Absolute dross really. When people talk about pop artists being fake and produced etc blah blah, this is exactly what I think Limp Bizkit were, they were just Britney Spears but for heavy metal yoots.
It was good and I loved the voice and genre etc but I don't know why but I got a bit bored. I wonder if the mixing makes it sound less punchy and involved that it should do. A weird one.
Great album, excellent voices and stories and kept me hooked.
Struggled with this. I've never really linked the Pet Shop Boys, find it all the same and the vocals annoy me. They've got some good hits but this album but a bit duff for me
That was great fun for what it is, a load of rocking. I love those songs that are just liked 'we're a rocking and a rolling and it's a big rocking party and look at us we're rocking and looking at you, you're rocking too, we'll all having a big ol' rock 'n' roll party'
Pretty gooooood. It occurred to me that the track titles works as a conversation with a very concerned man... what's happening brother? What's going on?! Mercy Mercy Me! Wholy Holy!!! GOD IS LOVE. SAVE THE CHILDREN!!!!
This was cool. Classic blues, really enjoy listening to that kinda stuff but I can't say it was mind blowing, just ya classic blues
Very forgettable. In fact I struggled to remember what it was like when I only listened to it this morning, had to go back in to remember.
Yeah I liked that a lot, it was cool, fun stories, had sass and some banging guitar breaks
Overall found this boring. Really not my kind of thing. Occassionally I thought 'oh something interesting happened then' but that was rare.
People seem to love White Denim but I can't say I get it. This had some good tracks but it was a bit all over the place and would have been better to stick with a style because some songs I liked and others I really didn't
Yeah this was really good, varied and enjoyable.
This was fine, had some good beats and enjoyable but nothing special for me
Another one?! Well, it's just more pet shop boys which isn't really my bag. But It's a Sin is a complete banger of course.
oh that was all over the place, a real mess. I found little to enjoy in it. Everytime the guitar sounded nice or it had a good melody it would go off in some mega hippy way and I struggled. This being said it's a real time capsule of music though which I guess is nice.
This was so cool. I love Leonard Cohen but I rarely actually listen to him. I guess it's not really casual listening. The opening track was fantastic
Classic Rolling Stones. Got some of their best tracks on it. Sympathy for the Devil is such a good song, I remember first hearing it as a kid and being blown away.
I guess it was pretty good, kind of what I expected. Ryan Adams is notoriously a dick though so he doesn't get many stars from me
This was fine, Quite generic but not bad.
This was pretty bland for me. Karma Chameleon is a banger but the rest just felt like forgettable 80s drivel to me
Yeah pretty good I guess. Was nice and relaxing and had a lot of depth. Can't said I'd be rushing to listen again but certainly liked it
Well it's an absolute tour-de-force. This was the album that really got me into Taylor Swift and although she was big she's now MASSIVE. There some fantastic song writing on this album and absolute bangers. Personally don't think there's any duffs.
I thought this was pretty bland. It's a shame because I like John Lyndon's voice but the music was like they'd given up and just made any old thing.
It was fine, guess it was a good time capsule of music but can't say it interested me too much, had some nice bits
Never heard of this band. Really liked it. Some parts were a bit too hardcore for me but overall really enjoyed it. They only had two albums so quite impressive to have one on here.
I used to never really be a fan of the Sex Pistols but I've read a few autobiographies of musicians who know them recently and also watched a documentary and I've got a new appreciation for them. I can't say I listen to them much but I definitely enjoyed this album more this time than I have before.
This was quite cool I think. Although it came out in 1972 and felt quite 70s I thought some of it sounded quite modern and the production was great. Nothing excellent but definitely interesting. Also the album title is fantastic.
This was good, very experimental and interesting. I can't say I'll listen to it much day to day but it was certainly cool. No bangers like debut or the swan one has but still good.
Exactly what I expected but really good. A great mood and made me feel like I was hanging out in the bayou. I read their wiki and turns out they used to be called the Golliwogs...
I really like DJ Shadow and I used to listen to the Private Press a lot when I was younger. I don't like this album as much but it is really cool. His albums are always very varied but I like that you can hear what he's doing with them really well, the samples and beats all flow really well.
I really liked this. It surprised me, had no idea what to expect. The album cover is dripping in cool. The album itself is really upbeat and interesting. It sounds quite generic at first but I think it's actually quite out there for what it's doing musically. The lyrics to the first track really made me laugh though: Standing tough under stars and stripes We can tell This dream's in sight You've got to admit it At this point in time that it's clear The future looks bright What an opening! I can imagine putting this on at all those suave dinner parties I host.
Quite enjoyed this. It was definitely up my street but can't say I loved it. Sort of forgettable but still worth a listen for sure.
Better than I thought it would be but kind of just fine for me. I got very confused when the song Heaven started as it's a Talking Heads song and I thought maybe Talking Heads covered Simply Red which blew my mind, but no, it is a Talking Heads song.
The opening was long and bad. But later on there were some pretty good songs. Low Life and Attack were good. But overall there weren't enough good songs for me to really enjoy this album.
I loved this album when it came out. I remember it being big in our student radio days. Through the Iron Gate is a banger. I can't say I loved the whole album as much now but still really enjoyed listening.
Yeah it was cool, really enjoyed it. Was exactly what I thought it was be but nothing wrong with that!
Not bad, enjoyed parts of it and generally thought it was fine. A lot of it sounded the same to me but I think that actually a lot of the tracks were working off the same basis and maybe similar backing tracks and themes.
Yeah I quite enjoyed it. Can't say it was amazing but it was definitely interesting and different.
I didn't mind this. Nothing special but I've been listening to a lot of old folk and country lately so was in the right mood for it. I guess it's all quite generic and repetitive but it feels nice and cosy.
Classic blues rock n roll, I really liked it but I can't say it was really anything special or pushed the boat out, kinda just background blues to me.
Hmm, a weird one. I really hate U2's sound. BUT the songs are very well written. For example the Patti Smith cover of Until the End of the World is amazing and shows how great the lyrics are, but I really hate the original, it's so bland and the lyrics are lost in just strumming guitar effects. Same with Love is Blindness, the Jack White cover is brilliant, way better than the original. Such a shame I hate the sound because there's some really good songs hidden underneath them.
God that was awful. What was it supposed to be? It's one of these random albums we've had that sounds like the songs to a musical. I feel like I was really missing out though because the cover is cool, the song names are good and occassionally I liked a short bit of music but it was so random I didn't know what to do.
Yeah pretty good to be honest but still just generic country for me, but nice to have on.
Hmmm, can't think of much to say except 'it's more Morrissey'
Absolutely fantastic. Amazing that this came out in 1979. I can hear its influences in so much music that I love. It's got great, now classic, drum beats, cool riffs and some classic solo styles that you can here in so many great punk bands.
Great album. Protection is an excellent song and I generally love the whole feel of the album.
A great album, I really enjoy it. He's got an excellent sound and really good variety, feels so fresh.
Not bad at all. I find them a little boring though. I know it's good music and whatnot but I got a bit bored. Cool sound overall.
Quite simply just not for me and that's fine. I think I've heard enough grime to know it's just not my thing and I've tried enough. All good.
Absolutely not. So many weird, misogynistic lyrics here and generally just crap. Backseat Love is just a rape song right? Look at these lyrics: I was walking, down the street Saw this girl, she smell so sweet Hey, baby She start running, so I gave chase How they get them sapphires in yo face? Hey, baby So we start walking, and holding hands But she don't know, that daddy got plans I'm gon' get her in my car In the backseat and show her a rock star WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!
God lord this was AWFUL. All over the place, terrible genre. The rapping was just terrible and vacant, just talking about random stuff then insulting some women then slapping in some bass guitar. Absolute tosh. Kid Rock looks like the worst person, like he grew out of a petri dish of terrible american values.
Great stuff. Lovely album. Such good BEATS
This has got some bangers on it but not my fave Nick Cave album. But I do really like it. I read a bit about it and apparently Nick Cave was very angry with it because he hated the mixing and thought it presented the album in very much the wrong way. Someone described the producer as getting the best performance possible and then leaving all the faders in the same place.
Pretty good. Not a massive fan of Supergrass but I did enjoy this and had a few tracks I knew and were really good.
Fantastic album. I love Jack White, he's such a great guitarist and I think he really pushes the genre. It's always that basic blues but I love that he's still doing it and making it interesting and new. Some bangers on this album. I once played Love Interruption at an open mic at uni. I listened to this album so much when it came, BANGER
Yeah not bad. It's got the guy from Pavement in and I think his distinctive voice carries it a lot, but I can't say I loved the actual music that much. Some good lyrics but nothing amazing.
Absolute nonsense. Nothing in this album. Nothing to say. Get a grip.
Great fun. Shame about the Scientology.
Hard to know what to say about this album that hasn't been said before. But it's obviously amazing isn't it. Great Gig in the Sky is just phenomenal and I could listen to that so many times and never get board. There's not a bad track in there and the whole thing is tied together so perfectly.
Really good groovy album. Loaded is obviously an absolute banger. Sort of track you can guarantee an aging DJ will be playing somewhere at a festival at any one time.
This was good but I can't say it was particularly memorable. But I must say, it has the most incredible album cover.
Pretty good but not really my thing overall. Sounded like all Public Enemy to me, which is fine.
I really like that. It surprised me. At first I thought it was just some random blokes saying random stuff and messing about with sounds and a guitar. And it was. But I liked it. It just kind of clicked for.
Well it's an absolute belter. I love this album. So many fantastic tracks, Jimmy Jazz, Rudie Can't Fail, Lost in the Supermarket, Death or Glory. I listened to this so much as a kid. I remember my electronics teacher saying the Clash were one hit wonders with Rock the Casbah. Such an idiot.
It was fiiiiine. It was SO background music I almost forgot to listen. Generally it was okay but can't say I found it interesting.
Great stuff. I don't often listen to FKA twigs but when I do I love her. Feels really fresh and she's trying new stuff and what not. Some of it reminds me of early Grimes.
I loved this. Really like finding new album I love through this. Right up my street. Reminded me of Sleater-Kinney. This was their eighth album after a 5 year break. Interesting to have a self-titled album after 7 albums already. Great stuff though.
Classic, great stuff. Feels like such a time capsule of music.
I enjoyed that. Really good beats and felt varied enough for me.
It really is an amazing album. Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said but I do really love concept albums like this and the repeated refrain of Another Brick in the Wall is great. I remember telling someone at uni about the Wall gig Pink Floyd did where they built the wall in front of them throughout and she told me that it was really pretentious (the gig, not me telling her). So I guess she doesn't like any kind of theatre. And for the record, we probably should educate children.
I couldn't stand that. Sounded like a load of 18 year old music/drama students who set out just to make something 'different' but forgot to remember that it should be enjoyable to listen to.
I didn't know this album except for the Drop the Pressure track but I loved it. Right up my street, reminded me of Mr Scruff in places and very much the enjoyable electronic music that I like to listen to.
It's a good album but I can't say I love listening to it. Gets a bit grating after a while. The classics are great but some of the filler is boring. God Only Knows is a certified banger though.
Hmmmm, didn't really get what was going on in this, a bit all over the place and boring. He did have a good voice though.
Hmmm, well Faith is an absolute banger, love that song. But the rest was all a bit boring for me, can't say I massively enjoyed it but there were good bits.
I would say I like Sonic Youth from afar. I like what they did, I feel like I understand why they were good culturally. I loved Kim Gordon's book and they are always mentioned in many music books I read. However, I just don't really like listening to them, it's too experimental for me and I don't always like it descending in just sound. Thing is, on paper they are right up my street and when I describe what I don't like about them I am describing what I like about other bands. Who knows, just never gelled for me.
It was quite boppy and enjoyable. Nothing much more to say to be honest.
I guess it was okay but kind of found it bland and forgettable
Really enjoyed this. I love having this kind of music on in the background, great stuff.
I generally like Grandmaster Flash and the Message is a banging tune, as well as some of his other 'hits' but I did find the album as a whole to be a bit repetitive and not that exciting. But overall he's a great DJ and culturally he has had a huge impact on his genre, quite a legend.
I liked this. Never heard of it before but I found it very enjoyable and a bit different.
I know these two because they are friends with Jack Johnson and appear on a few of his things and visa versa. I generally liked the album. I think it's a style that you either like or loath to be honest and I quite like it.
This was an absolute banger, put me in a great mood. Definitely going to be listening to this again. Must be great live.
Not bad, but nothing special. Was quite enjoyable background music.
Pretty good stuff. Started to all sound the same to me to be honest but I liked it.
Hmmm, didn't really love it. But it was fine. It's the guy from a flaming lips. I like his voice but it was missing what makes flaming lips so good. Felt a little empty.
