One of my fave albums ever. I've always appreciated the depravity why would I stop now?
So emotional & melancholy. I like the genre description Baroque Pop.
IT'S VERY NOISY ISN'T IT?! I DID need to hear this before I died. Not sure if a quiet Sunday morning outside was the right time, but I hear you Lightening Bolt.
I love Alice Cooper & this entire album. I would argue that Unfinished Sweet is the best dentist song of all time & they absolutely ARE aching to get me.

This was a 5 in 1995!
More bang than I remembered!
You put the lime in the coconut!
Modern day poetry & makes me think of my sister ❤
Enjoyed this, 1st time listening to a Stevie album, only familiar w the big hits. Loved the funk, wasn't into the jazz. I'll own it, I don't care for Contusion. Some of the slower lovey songs got a little long for me. Depressing how relevant some of these lyrics are 45 yrs later. My Highlights! Village Ghetto Land Sir Duke ☆☆☆☆☆ Pastime Paradise surprised me too folks Ordinary Pain after 2:40 The harp on If It's Magic bc fucking harp Saturn Ebony Eyes
Well Sinead O'Rebellion! Shock me shock me with that deviant behavior! Sinead does have a unique voice & I love Irish dialect. I recognize & appreciate the anguish that went into the album, it would be a good one if you ever need something to listen to during an ugly cry session. My highlights Feels So Different love love love the strings I Am Stretched On Your Grave is my fave of the album Nothing Compares is a classic of course, there's a reason that song has been so overplayed If I'm being honest a big highlight was when it was over.
Grungy & angsty, love it. Fave lyric There's a certain comfort in being confused. I revisited the book Touch Me I'm Sick while listening - Charles Peterson's photojournal of the grunge scene. Made me long for my youth and another beer! My Highlights! Generation Genocide Broken Hands esp guitar solo Move Out Shoot the Moon
I love Alice Cooper & this entire album. I would argue that Unfinished Sweet is the best dentist song of all time & they absolutely ARE aching to get me.
Like this album's big hit it was Alright! It definitely grew on me thru the day. I liked! Strange Ones Time Sofa of my Lethargy Originally would have rated a 2 but I like those 3 songs VERY MUCH. I'd like to know where all the strange ones go.
Super not into it.
I enjoyed listening to this, it was interesting. Researching the artist also led me to learn a few things about Senegal along the way. Probably won't listen to this again but enjoyed being exposed to it!
First half of the album was ok - esp Mick's Blessings & The Paris Match. Did not care for the last half!
Funky! Recognized some sounds I didn't know were borrowed from Jorge
This was all right. I was eagerly expecting a pizza delivery from a mustached delivery man that I simply don't have cash to pay for do you accept any other forms of payment? while listening to this album.
Ya mon!
It's not as bad as you think - there are some interesting sounds layered in there. Need headphones to appreciate this one! Also, Let's hear it for the keytar!
\m/\m/
I am not much of a jazz fan but Sarah Vaughan may convert me! I really enjoyed listening to this. Love her voice & playfulness.
Mehhh.
I appreciate Aerosmith & it certainly seems likely my teenage parents conceived me to this album. My fave tracks here are Adam's Apple & Round & Round!
Big fan of The Doors & this album! I eat more chicken than any man ever seen!
So emotional & melancholy. I like the genre description Baroque Pop.
An all right listen, didn't overly grab me. Nocturnal Me is an unequivocal Ghost song in my head, it jarred me when it started to play! The Bunnymen get an extra star for that track.
Today I learned about Poly Styrene!
I enjoy listening to dreamy alternative songs like these on rainy days. I especially liked Earthquake!
I'm in the Mood is just amazing & love this album!
Fuck! This is amazing & I wish I'd been listening to it for the last 30 years. I'll make it up to you from here Slint, promise. Love the dissonance, the mood, the entire album.
Grew on me w additional listens!
I just can't with these jazz instrumentals. But Jimmy gets an extra star due to my affinity for the organ!
I've long loved this album! And was infatuated with the brown eyed dream boat that is Brandon Boyd for a minute! Always loved that red tattoo on his arm. Sometime near this album's release I won Incubus concert tickets from the radio. A friend & I drove a couple hrs to the show in my dad's hooptie grand marquis getting high af. They were nose bleed seats but it was fucking awesome. A MAJOR AWARD after all. GOOD TIMES INCUBUS!
Didnt know what to expect when this came up but I was excited to see Atticus Ross as a contributor! Upon playing I realized I was familiar w some of Barry's work from the Lost Highway soundtrack. Had a good time listening to this - will revisit!
Merry Christmas!
Found this slow & relatively uninteresting.
Hell ya!
I enjoy weird synthy shit! The Eurythmics make me think of Friday Night Videos when I was a little kid - Annie seemed so exotic to me!
Not really my cup of tea but an interesting listen. Certainly a masterpiece of a concept album, I feel like I watched a movie about Illinois. John Wayne Gacy made me pause both times I played it thru. Loved the orchestral sounds & esp the trumpet on this album!
Not my fave Tupac album but it's all right!
Even more mehhh than the last Smiths album.
I really enjoyed this & will be spending more time with it! There is some very beautiful music in here- especially liked Tonite it Shows, the poetry that is the lyrics of Opus 40 & highlight for me is Endlessly. So melodic, it's the sound birds make when twirling around Cinderella or Snow White's beautiful kind head. And I've spent so many hours playing the eerie melody that is Silent Night just so lovely.
I know this is overplayed but shit it's a good album & I love it!
I've loved this album for 20 years - it still rocks! Part of the permanent soundtrack of my life.
Ok background music, did not overly grab me. Honestly there are times I found her voice lovely & times it made me want to bang my head against a wall bc its so sickenly sweet. Overall ok tho & Heartbreaker was the standout to me!
Band on the Run is a masterpiece of a song in my opinion, just so good!
Not the biggest Stones fan. I get it, I just don't get it the way the real fans do. That said, I don't mind this album. Favorite track I Got the Blues!
I'm down w/ Tom Waits, a fan actually, however this album just isn't really my thing. There's some humorous shit up in here but overall I simply prefer a little more music a little less chit chat ya know?
Perfect album for a Saturday morning putzing around the kitchen. The whole album is kind of one song, but it's a good song!
This album makes me wish I could move my hips & salsa dance! (I absolitelu cannot) Fun listen!
Loved it!
Not a big fan of this-too marching band! Kept making me think of that dumb ass Gwen Stefani song w/ b a n a n a s in her dumb ass baby voice. Last 1/2 of the album was more bearable. I actually liked Mango Pickle Down River, Paper Planes makes me think fondly of Pineapple Express & Come Around w/ Timbaland was all right too.
Wasn't familiar-now I am! Listened to Gang Starr all day. Who's Gonna Take the Weight was my fave song, but no bad ones here imo!
Poweful album! Love the funk & fucking love King Kunta! If you can listen to that song w/o moving your body we can't be friends.
Appreciate & respect the project, just not songs I'd seek out for three full hours. I listened to it all but it became background music... I know there were songs sprinkled in that almost caught my ear but not enough for me to stop what I was doing to see which ones. Maybe will try again sometime.
All I can hear is Pixar Toy Story music or that Family Guy episode when listening to ole Randy. Mr President is an apt present day theme song. Guilty is an awesome song (especially when Bonnie sings it).
I've always felt Bob Dylan is best as a poet, sometimes his voice just grates on my nerves. But I have respect & there are some fine tunes on here, & enjoy the harmonica. Sidenote we got this album on the day it was announced Bob sold master rights to his recorded catalog to Sony. It's a Bob Dylan kind of day.
Sounds like Tim likes to do it all with his big ole mamas! And everyone else! I especially enjoyed Hong Kong bar.
Ehhh I was not feeling this today....
Good album. I have some emotional memories mixed up in a couple of these songs.
Actually enjoyed this very much!
Carol King is pretty fucking special.
Love that crazy motherfucker named Ice Cube! Great album!
I'm into Leonard Cohen, this album got the 80s going on. I personally, especially want to take Berlin! Everybody Knows is classic! I hate you Jazz Police.
I was pretty excited to get this album as I've been meaning to check out Sleater-Kinney....but I hated it haha
I love this album. So many good songs & sounds. Smashing Pumpkins sound like no one else. Rocket has always been my favorite pumpkins song, beginning of Hummer is amazing.
Listened to this twice while working & thought it was fine, pleasing melodies. Then I listened again w/ the lyrics & fell in love. I like John's style & will check out more of his work! My highlights! Marz Where Dreams go to Die - I regret the day your lovely carcass caught my eye! Queen of Denmark And of course some days it's just Chicken Bones! You'd better fuck off now!
I live this album. Such good memories on so many fronts.
My favorite songs from the album are the James Brown covers!
Gawt dammit I actually really love this album.
Oh I forgot about Elastica! I had this album! Car song still my fave ;)
Nice for a snowy morning!
-I had a rough night & I hate the fucking Eagles man- Not really but I do always think of that line from the dude. The Eagles are fine, influential & all that.
Meh.
Short sweet & classic. Good album, RIP Tom Petty!
I had this album & saw this tour & rocked the Zero shirt for several years!
Still salty over the last Van Morrison album I hated so much. This one was better...but still hippy drivel.
I am in a bad anxiety filled mood today & while this is soothing so should have helped it had the opposite effect. It really just pissed me off how it sounds like every other gd band. Maybe will try again someday in a better more objective mood (or not).
I actually didn't mind this. I liked 1st half ambient better than 2nd half!
RIP Chef
Norway blew my mind...you hear it too right? (⊙﹏⊙)
New to Pulp, cringed for a minute over nore British pop but they got me! My highlights! Pencil Skirt & F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.
Infinite stars! One of the best albums of all time (to me)
I was in the right mood & hated this less than other Radiohead albums!
I do imagine this is exactly what Sao Paulo feels like. LOVE Pecados da Madrugada!
IT'S VERY NOISY ISN'T IT?! I DID need to hear this before I died. Not sure if a quiet Sunday morning outside was the right time, but I hear you Lightening Bolt.
If you were my dog, I'd feed you scraps from off the table.
It is everything, isn't it?
Devo is so weird & so punk
My first experience w/ Funkadelic was in the movie PCU, ya'll remember that one? Classic. Anyway I loved this album & Maggot Brain is an amazing song I needed in my life. Wars of Armageddon not so much
This is some weird ass shit I'm grateful to have learned about today.
I need to come back to this
Need to come back to this, [A] Touch Sensitive stood out
I love Iggy Pop. I love David Bowie. I feel like Bowie was playing it safe, testing sobriety for a min, easing into Low. Who knows wtf I'm talking about, these thoughts just appear. I'm into it but I dislike China Girl damnit (inuding subsequent versions)
One of my fave albums ever. I've always appreciated the depravity why would I stop now?
Really not into the Talking Heads. Psycho Killer saves this one from 2 stars.
The list has made me a Costello fan, even tho there is too much of it here. This Is Hell is the highlight from this album, because isn't it tho??
I'm not sure if I love or hate the music yet....but I certainly enjoyed learning about these fucking crazy, brave, independent, influential women.
I've been dabbling in Zappa lately so was excited to listen to this. Turns out not my favorite! Willie The Pimp is one I was already familiar w/ & is def my num one for the album. I despised The Gumbo Variations...minus 10 stars for that jam.
I definitely had a Shirley Manson girl crush when this album came out.
All I really know of Blur is WOOOO HOOOO! This album was fine - I did have to get the book out to tell me why I needed to hear it (FYI it didn't convince me).
I didn't mind it w/ no idea what he was saying - Wikipedia tells me it's about his love affair w/ a 15 yr old which I'm not into.
Pretty sure this is the soundtrack in hell, you thought 90 mins was long, try eternity heathen!
Prog rock af
Much respect to Joni Mitchell
One long ass boring song. I didn't mind the song, but I don't really want to listen to it again.
Loved it. La femme d'argent feels warm & fuzzy & nintendo-y, Sexy Boy is very Ween-esque
Meat Loaf is a great fucking performer & a true American hero. RIP Mr Loaf.
Sometimes I wish I was a sexy Cuban dancer!
Parliament makes me think if PCU & Doggystyle bc of all the samples. Every Parliament record. Every time. GIVE UP THE FUNK!
I was excited for this bc yay Germans & cool guest musicians. I was a little dissapointed.
Nice music but super boring I really couldn't get into it & don't want to try again.
This aged much better than other albums of its time! Enjoyed the covers too, wtg Frankie
How does my brain still know every word of this album, after not hearing it for yearssss, yet I forget how old I am?
I've had a long, odd, unhealthy obsession w Kate Moss & somehow this album became nothing but an extension of that.
This reminds me of Brian LaFontaine, the singer on the Name that Tune segment from Conan Obrien!
Super Sixties!
Soothing like a soft blankie
Simultaneously the best & worst thing I've ever listened to.
1st time listening to much Beyonce I'm not mad about it. I'd give it 3.5 stars but not 4!
I'd like to issue an apology to the 1001 Album Generator Community for my rating... I fully acknowledge Kid Rock's douchbaggery but damnit you guys I had some really good times partying to this album when it came out :D
White Denim deserves a little more listening I believe!
Wow the genrator reviews really hate on this...I didn't mind it, some cool sounds mixed in w the fucked up random noise. I'm esp into Flow My Tears the Spider Says
I could smell it.
Sensationally Super Seventies...I loved it
I felt like Jacques was singing only to me...very entertaining
I wanted to sing ahwwah after every line in every song. I didn't mind this album ahwwah, probably won't listen to it again AHWWHAH
Liked the rawness of this one, better than the my ass is on fire vibe
In general my exposure to Moby has made me find him moderately pretentious but I still enjoyed the album. 3.5 stars!
There are some highs & lows on this one....but the highs are like the quintessential sound of psychedelia...I've got to give it that extra star out of respect
ROCK LOBSTA
Who Do You Love got a little weird
Betty said she prayed today For the sky to blow away Or maybe stay She wasn't sure
3.5 stars
4.5 stars
Love these ladies but this album was a snoozer
Love me some synth but idk Heaven 18 wasn't doing it for me today.
That was something else :)
Love it. I've often heard people say Thin Lizzie is underrated & now I agree. There is some damn good music on this album
4 stars but an extra for being fundamental in shaping the awesomeness that is my husband :)
Never listened to this one start to finish, loved it, so gritty
Very grandiose
Wtf why is Bjork so Bjorky
Loud af loved it & the industrial adjacent noise
Go IT Alone is a top 10 Beck song for me, great album
Long live glam rock I'm here for it!
Enjoy this Dylan album more than most!
It was a little hard to get thru - I would have enjoyed it more as a musical w some visuals
Fairly mediocre
Love that weird Brian Eno stuff
One of the best selling albums of all time. It's pretty wild really. Hard to get thru but I recognize the pop sensation on a couple of these singles. I wonder how many of the nearly 20 MILLION people that purchased this album listened to more than 3 of the songs on it. Glad its over.
I (begrudgingly) liked this more than I thought I would!
ULTIMATE THRASH! 3.5 stars
I dont really get all the Coldplay hype. I find it quite vanilla
The generator has been punishing me w/ far too much jazz lately! It's still a no!
I enjoyed Chameleon & I thought hmmm generator did you give me a jazz album I'm going to like? Did you finally convince me?? Then I got to Sly. If it would have lasted one minute longer I would have turned it off it almost killed me. So alas generator, today is not the day you convert me to the jazz side.
New weird shit I like unlocked
I liked the songs where he didn't yell at me. Mr Spencer I'll take more of that smooth slow blues, a little explosion.
I feel like I need to go back & listen to this closer, reading the lyrics.
Pretty much hated that but not quite torture.
Prog Rock Forever
I understand the allure, good story telling & plenty to cry along to. I liked no body no crime bc who doesn't enjoy a good murder mystery song
3.5 stars
Feels like being in a dream
TIL what a krummhorn is!
Killer Baaaaay Baybeeeeee
Actually fucking loved it New skill unlocked
3.5 stars
Proclaiming a favorite Pink Floyd album is in the same vein as announcing your favorite child....yet I think I'll still do it. This is my favorite Pink Floyd album! It soothes me from start to finish. Love listening to it on rainy days, or sunny breezy days, or anytime I just want to relax and be calmed.
This one was hard for me to get through...I simply do not think jazz will EVER grow on me. It's like each instrument is playing its own rambling ass jam with no regard to the other players & no regard to a structured song. I suppose that is part of the allure for jazz fans? Idk. In MY opinion, this album is a good candidate to be piped thru the loud speakers of hell.
Enjoyed the B side far more than A!
Quite a bit of hate for this album in the reviews ha but I didn't mind it! Occasionally gave Tricky or Portishead vibes
5 stars bc of emotional attachment! Makes me think of you Miah!
Smooth like buttah
This album helped me confirm its definitely not the music that makes me dislike Radiohead, it's the vocal. That said, it was a grey day fitting for the music, making it more tolerable, and I'm feeling generous...so you can have the extra star Thom
Not familiar prior & pleasantly surprised! Love his voice & cocaine! I would have enjoyed Cynicrustpetefredjohn Raga more if it was about 3 mins shorter
I thought this would be another samey sounding British album but found it to be far more interesting than that! 3.5 stars!
Have to hand it to Bjork, she is very good at gasping, panting and breathing. I can appreciate the concept of the album but did not enjoy.
I loved this it's like Ween & Primus had a weird little baby, surely The Residents were influential to those bands! Enjoyed the rabbit hole of learning about this group & will certainly explore more
Ah yes Xtina I memba this. Christina was trying to prove she was more than the other manufactured pop stars & I think she did it. I love her voice, could use a few less ohh ahh ohahs tho. Also GIRL POWER!
9 year old me thought The Humpty Dance was the greatest song of ALL TIME! I mostly don't still feel that way but actually liked this album more than I thought I would. Good, fun, humorous hip hop
If I'd had this album earlier I'd probably rate it higher. Influential psychedelic sounds & all. Long live the Moog! But after we've had 72 other influential psychedelic rock albums I'm tired.
3.5 stars
Sehr gut! Nice to listen to something interesting for a change & recognize the influence to a lot of music I enjoy
Very soothing!
Love that you can hear the dark side of life in her voice & felt Guilt to the core.
3.5 stars!
Upon driving my son home from school with this album playing he says "This is LITERALLY the WORST music I have EVER HEARD" He said it w feeling from the bottom of his soul & I make him listen to alot of shit! Hilarious I on the other hand enjoyed it - something different & Wikipedia told me about the martial industrial genre (the subgenres never end do they but how fitting!)
I would have liked to drink bourbon in a smoky bar & listen to Elis Regina!
What a fucking vibe!
I'll admit I started singing Guitars Cadillacs Hillbilly Muuusic in the middle of multiple songs that weren't that one, its not even on this album. Still enjoyed it
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Good music all around & interesting delivery. Also dude if I was rich I'd totally get a harp & fuck around harps are awesome. Very impressive. And what made the boing sounds in Emily bc I want that too.
Holy shit list...this is way too jazz adjacent for me to enjoy...yet I did. You're changing meeee
Really pretty boring...but it wasn't bad so I'll stick ya with 3 stars Emmylou even though every memory I have of you is standing stoically, slowly strumming guitar w that beautiful grey hair playing the same song bc im pretty sure there's only one
Finally realize it's the vocals I don't care for
It lived up to its hype
Reminds me of the tunes Granny would have playing in the mornings on the old radio in the kitchen
FRANTIC & FRENZIED This will be my 1,046th album rated. There's so much boring music on the list I've come to really appreciate the ones that sound like no other. However, I still hated this ugh I never want to hear any of that again ha
Randy Newman just sounds like such a goober - but in a good beloved way. Enjoyed the listen
A real vibe I love this album
Meh felt Radiohead adjacent
Kinda felt like I was in an elevator for 46 mins...not bad but pretty unmemorable
Pleasantly surprised by this, it hit right today
Especially enjoyed Mr Speaker
A little too lengthy there Raekwon
4.5 stars!
See what happened was - I was at the racetrack all day & my team won & I had a few whiskeys outside once arriving back home & I was about done w the last one to go to bed bc fauuuck I'm sunburnt & then I saw it was 1984 & only 33 mins... And that is how I got blackout drunk in the driveway soaking up the moonlight. It was a 5 star experience! RIP EVH!
Very soothing
Love Q-Tip!
Idk today is one of those days - I'm like 900+ albums in & this is fine. It's a 3, like a whole bunch of em. It didn't really have anything bad that made me dislike it. But it didn't have anything memorable or fucking awesome sounding either. Somedays I wonder did I REALLY need to hear this? But ok it's fine I'd gladly listen to it some more if you provided a compelling argument. Threeee Starrrrs
Almost a 2 Rufus
Preeeeeety long
Sounds like a fever dream
I'd probably enjoy this more if I was higher just sayin
3.5 stars I do hella enjoy the vocals on this album When this album came out this dude at work listened to it quietly on repeat in his cube for months. And often one song at a time. I've heard My Sex is on Fire no less than 700 times. WHO FUCKING DOES THAT?
Hey hey they're The Monkees! They like to MONKEEEEEE around!
Enjoyed this far more than I thought I would, very interesting. I can enjoy Bjork in this context
Sonic Youth is so dirty
This was fine, 3 stars! TIL Aimee Mann dated Uncle Al & was in Ministry for a minute. She's quoted as saying she learned more effective song writing during her time w the band. Mind blown. Mostly I just thought about that Portlandia episode where Aimee is a maid lol
The 1st track sounded like it was going to be Dolly Parton 9-5! But it wasn't & I enjoyed it. The Comfortably Numb cover was interesting so different. 3.5 stars!
Still not a big U2 fan but it hit right tonight
I'm sure it was a very challenging record to make
Completely unfamiliar w Howe Gelb & Giant Sand & really enjoyed it. Definitely something I'll be coming back to
Reading the wiki page made it sound like this would be the most phenomenal album I'd ever heard. It was fine - guess you have to be a big Beach Boys fan to really understand the phenomenon
I'll just admit that Ice Cream Man is my favorite Van Halen song. Don't judge me.
The 3 rating is a sign of how much I've grown thru this list....too long & too jazzy yet here we are w/ 3 stars
I know every sound of this album. And aside from normal teenage angst / it's actually just good music in spite of the hype / I love it - there was this summer I spent a week alone at my Granny's for some reason. They had just refurbished the upstairs bedrooms we weren't allowed in as little kids & it felt exciting that I got this special time in this special place....especially as I realized how boring being alone on a farm in the early 90s was. I spent SO many hours that week listening to this album (that I got in my Columbia House haul ha!) on my discman...good fucking times
I like Billy's accent & I want to go to the pub
TIMMY!
This is some Renaissance Faire type shit! Loved it!
See Me Feel Me Touch Me Heal Me
I love sitar!
Sex and drugs and rock and roll are very good indeed!
I listened to it all - it took 2 weekends - just hard to devote that much time. It's not an album! But it is good I enjoyed it
I'm getting close to the end & getting verklempt but I need to say Brian Eno is probably my biggest take away from the generator. I knew the name but only peripherally & fuck he made a lot of cool music. Solo & obviously all the collabs like I just had no idea how much shit he had his hand in. Bravo Brian Eno!
\m/ \m/
I wanted to like it but so boring! It's only 35 mins but felt like 2 hrs ha
I'd probably give it a 3.3 if I'm being honest
Very noisy
My Bloody Valentine still sounds like a fever dream and/or that level on Yoshis Island where you eat the fuzz & shit gets wonky.
If I could break dance this would be my soundtrack
Side 2 was much more interesting than the first & got ya an extra star Xtina
I felt like the Ladies Man while listening to this album
Very 90s. 5 stars if you're looking for 90s. I certainly enjoyed it more as it went on; which does correlate to amount of whiskey consumed. But correlation does not equal causation & Pete International Airport was killer so 4 stars
I didn't overly mind it but I don't want to listen to it again Sabu
