3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul

One of the best hip hop albums on this list. The game show stuff was a really fun theme throughout. Great lyrics, samples, and beats. Plus Q-tip!

This album is why I do this project! What a find! Super solid early post-punk with strong vocals and killer riffs. I'm all about it.

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods

Even though I couldn't understand the lyrics I still understood the music. Great stuff.

Great album, the intro songs kicks strong. Solid instrumentals then wraps up crisp without overstaying it's welcome. War is a lot more than just low rider.

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
May 05 2022

The redneck rap rock album that I am kinda ashamed to say I get down with some of it. Damn it kid just pick up the phone and never autotune a ballad again. Stick to rapping over guitar about getting laid and doing drugs, definitely not the peak of music. But pretty fun for some of it.

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Sep 04 2022

3.5 some song feel like they don't belong, the album absolutely over stays it's welcome. But they do a great job of giving the feeling of being in space for most of it. If I was on shrooms this would probably be 5 stars.

Starts really strong, ends up pretty middling

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Oct 11 2022

The start was extremely strong but the tail end of the album blended together

I see what they were doing and its value to the world of music as a whole. Punk jazz does seem like it'd be cool. Honestly though it sounded like 40 minutes of a raccoon playing on a trash can lid.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Oct 22 2022

Definitely the best Costello album on this list, and there is too many. In my opinion this one and this year's model would be enough. With that said, this is a fantastic debut album that keeps you on your toes and your foot tapping.

Honestly not bad. Knocked a star off because the album is wayyy too long, could easily have been cut in half without losing anything though. Every first 30sec or so feels like it could be the intro to a late 90s/early 2000s sitcom. Tough to decipher the lyrics but I'd listen again (to half) because I feel like their could be more nuance and depth to this than can be found on a single listen.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Sep 01 2023

A wonderful album to have on in the background and be surprised by throughout an afternoon. Talk about value! 3 full hours of Ella Fitzgerald through the highs and lows. I bet in the 50's this series of albums was sought after due to the spectrum of musical moods that the album touches and the wonderful performances Ella continues to put forth with delightful instrumental work. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tommy by The Who
Oct 27 2023

This album creates a character and makes your gut wrench for him. The poor dumb, deaf and blind kid gets abused and taken advantage of. Then it makes you realize he is more than sum of his circumstances. He's mother f*ckin pinball wizard. The best rock opera on this list.

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
Nov 25 2023

It's honestly hard to rate this album because all but a few songs are engrained within American culture. With that said the album brings some outrageous guitar and showcases all of that made Jimi Hendrix. I'm all about it. I would love to have heard the energy of the album on release.

Had very low expectations based on the album art and name of the guy but some of the songs were undeniably groovy and got me dancing in the kitchen. Nothing transcendent but there's good stuff here.

I literally listened to this album on repeat all day. It did not get old. She has amazing vocal range and diversity in the music she makes. Honestly really good.
