Música, Gramática, Gimnasia (Spanish: [ˈmusika ɡɾaˈmatika ximˈnasja], lit. 'Music, Grammar, Gymnastics') is the second studio album by Chilean indie pop duo Dënver, released on October 27, 2010, by Cazador. The first album by Dënver, Totoral, had an austere production, recorded in a home studio with limited time and resources. Additionally, at that time both members of the band lacked extensive knowledge in music production, and relied heavily on Felipe "Pondie" Aravena. However, for this album, the band had greater ambition: they aimed for more elaborate instrumentation, with additional guitars, basses, strings, and orchestral arrangements. By this point, Mariana Montenegro had already studied music at college, so she was able to communicate her ideas more clearly to everyone involved in the recording. For the album, the duo worked with renowned producer Cristian Heyne, who provided guidance and helped them polish their sound to help them materialize what they had in mind. The album title originated during online research about Ancient Greek culture, where they encountered references to these three disciplines as foundational subjects taught to children in Ancient Greece, astray felt the concepts aligned closely with the themes and artistic intentions of the record. In retrospective, the duo described Música, Gramática, Gimnasia as an album marked that emerged organically, noting that the duo had no fixed recipe or formula for creating it. He credited producer Cristián Heyne with playing a key role in shaping the final product, particularly through his involvement in curating the track listing. Mahan also pointed to the song titles as contributing to the album's character and observed that the record captured an innocence of that period, preserving a sense of youthful purity that defined its enduring appeal.

This is one of the few. One of the few albums that actually felt worth it to open the user album list today. 5
The hell was this? How I have never heard of this group? This was awewsome. It's like Magdalena Bay but from Chile although Mica is born in Argentina and they do have Spanish songs so maybe better to say Mag Bay are American versions of Denver. This was an amazing discovery and what the list should truly be about. This was a great discovery and I can't wait to delve into the rest of their catalogue. My personal rating: 5/5 My rating relative to the list: 5/5 Should this have been included on the original list? Yes.
Música, Gramática, Gimnasia is a good indie pop album by the Chilean duo Dënver. The songs are in Spanish, so I only get a bit of their lyrical content, but I'm glad there's another Non-English album on the list. The music varies between soft indie pop and some electronic influences. The songs are beautifully orchestrated with a lot of instruments. It's a great listening on a lazy sunny Sunday as a breakfast treat.
This is my record, the one I submitted. What can I say that hasn't been said by far better music writers? This album was both the peak in quality and the tip of the spear of what Chilean Indie Pop was all about between mid 00's and the following decade. What I would ask of my fellow users is to put themselves in context, in the waning years of 00's, in a post adolescence atmosphere, lovingly quoted in "Los Adolescentes", probably the album's best known song. Back then, Chile was ready to take advantage of what the post dictatorship in the 90's had built: a system that never fulfilled its promise of a better country. In the mid 00's came the generation that didn't remember anything of the dictatorship because they weren't born yet or were barely conscious, too little to absorb the anxiety. They had to live in a failed educational system, though, full of broken promises. Endure not one but two economic crises. And yet, they had the internet, the fastest in the continent which meant access to a whole array of communication systems and the eagerness and will to take advantage of them. Napster was a thing, Kazaa and others too. ICQ, messenger plus and sms texting. This was a generation of interconnect. Information (and musical influences) was flying fast across boundaries. No wonder 2006 and 2011 saw the biggest student protests in the history of the country. And yet, this record and most of the explosion of Chilean Indie Pop felt hopeful. There is lushness and playfulnessin the arrangements, the instruments and their interplay feels both violent and tender. There's hope in here as well as disappointment. There are songs about daydreaming, romanticism, fights, and angst all living in perfect sync with buzzy and dirty synths, ethereal voices and gorgeous melodies. It's as if dënver actually managed to capture the ineffable essence of a certain adolescence. Quite the feat.
This shit is dope as hell. I wanna buy this album. It reminds me of Japanese Breakfast, but several years earlier. Really fun synth pop with great harmonies. Fuck yeah 5/5 I might just be really high right now, but this shit is immaculate Post script: You have cursed me. I want to own this album, but I cannot purchase it. It is largely unavailable. It's like all those Greek plays
Firstly I get why someone added this on the list albums outside of the US and UK are lacking and a more definite version of the list would include a more diverse range of countries! Honestly this surprised me, looking at the cover I thought it’d be some tepid acoustic album but not at all, this is Chilean synth pop, like mag bay but a decade earlier. I did a (probably) wrong translation of the track names if anyone wanted to know…. 1. My first gold 2.Giant waves 3.Whatever you want 4.Diane Keaton (was already called this) 5. The teenagers 6. The bikers 7.Feedback (was already called this) 8.Cartagena (is the name of a city so no change) 9.Second skill 10.Central coast 11. In the middle of a party This is the lyrics to the first track: Pensar que a veces se pierde y otras se gana En que me ves en un tele a color desde tu casa En que puedo resbalar desde las barras En que conocerás a alguien este fin de semana En que si gano te daré la medalla And here it is translated: To think that sometimes you lose and other times you win That you see me on a color TV from your house That I could slip off the bars That you’ll meet someone this weekend That if I win, I’ll give you the medal There’s barely any lyrics to this track but my god it’s a great opener! Los adolescents has an amazing riff Feedback has a brilliant chorus Litoral Central is such a style change, sounds so much darker than the rest of it, really one of my favourites Honestly it’s my favourite foreign language album I’ve ever heard, oh and btw the title translates to music grammar gymnastics!
Electronica, Pop: Synth Pop. ¡Muy guay!
Wow I really loved this. Home recorded feel that added rather than detracted.
First track is a laid back bop. This was such a pleasant album.
What a weird and super fun record. 80s drenched but super different.
I didn't know what to expect but it wasn't this. The first song kept getting bigger in the most fun way possible. I'm hooked! Excellent share.
Love this kind of dramatic techno pop, no weak songs on this one either
This was really good. I especially liked the song Los Adolescentes. 4 stars.
Possibly the first Chilean album I have listened to, but probably not the last. Lovely sunny indie, with lyrics that sound lovely, even if I don’t speak enough Spanish to fully appreciate them!
Don't understand the lyrics, but the music is very pop-like and dreamy. Was a fun listen
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Olas gigantes, Los adolescentes, Los bikers, Litoral central
I don’t speak the language so it always makes it a little harder to assess. Having said that based on what I can react to music, melody, recording I feel it has potential (if I listened to the language) to be in my rotation at about the level of The Cardigans. Enjoyable and good for a diversion but not day to day listening.
This was an interesting listen! It was fascinating to hear some 2010s style indie pop from another country besides the US or the UK. And honestly, there's definitely some similarities, not the least of which are the heavy synth dance vibes. On some tracks, this goes even harder on the pure electronic synth sound, typical indie dance be damned. This was a fun listen of both a band and an album that I would likely have never heard if not for this list!
This was pretty good. They are from Chile so I didn’t understand them. But it was very nice.
Apple lists this as Indie Pop, so I was sure I would turn it off after one song, but surprisingly it wasn't terrible. I listened to the whole thing including bonus track. It was alright. Favorite track: Olas Gigantes
Fascinating Chilean pop music that doesn't really leave a lasting impression.
Interesting listen, enjoyed it.
Some songs are pure pop and others are indie rock bangers. Overall, a good album.
3.5
A nice listen
Música, Gramática, Gimnasia is a pleasant and lilty listen, I don't know what's going on and it's fairly twee but I think it creates a sound that's very hard to dislike or not find yourself smiling at. Music for sunny days, 3/5.
Not bad
This is some really invigorating pop music. The production an instrumentals for most of these songs were excellently done. The Spanish lyrics obviously kept me a bit in the dark for the albums content but it was a good listen. If this was in English I’d expect this to be more popular overall because this was some strong pop sounds. 6.0/10
For me this is a bit of a split experience. On first listen, several tracks immediately stood out. “Lo Que Quieras,” “Los Adolescentes,” and “Litoral Central” are genuinely strong, catchy indie-pop songs. But over repeated listens, some of the shine fades. The album leans heavily on the 80s synth-pop revival sound that defined a lot of indie in that era. At times it works, but just as often it feels tied too closely to its moment, with certain songs drifting into the background. The contrast between upbeat music and more dramatic lyrical themes adds some depth. Still, that balance isn’t consistent enough across the album. In the end, it’s an enjoyable and well-made record with a handful of highlights, but one that feels a bit too rooted in its time to fully stand out.
Yacht rock passed through a modern, Euro filter.
A fun indie pop vibe with some synthy 80s dance-ness to it
Cute vaporwave bloops and bleeps with some soothing Spanish lyrics on top. Cant hate it.
Another one of those where I didn’t know what to expect but when it started I was surprised so I must have had some preconceptions from the artwork. I enjoyed on the whole.
I couldn’t really get into this one all that much. Maybe another listen would change my mind. Ok overall
Yeah pretty decent Chilean electro-disco. I wonder if the funk riffs and airy mood sometimes found in this LP would appeal to my "chum" Émile, given that he is quite into that sort of thing (among other music styles). As far as I'm concerned, some of the vocals sound a little too "cheesy" for my tastes, but I readily recognize that this music is well-executed for what it is. 3/5 for the purposes of this list dedicated to essential albums. 8/10 for more general purposes (5 + 3) ---- Number of albums from the original list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 465 Albums from the original list I *might* include in mine later on: 288 Albums from the original list I won't include in mine: 336 ---- Number of albums from the users list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 80 Albums from the users list I *might* select for mine later on: 102 Albums from the users list I won't select for mine: 206 (including this one) ---- Émile, j'ai vu ta dernière réponse. That was the Jurassic Park theme in "Lo Que Quieras", right? I'm not imagining things. Anyways, pretty good but forgettable indie pop. To the pretty good but forgettable indie pop pile it goes.
Odd vibe on this, to me it read about 3 decades prior to its actual provenance. I actually liked it OK but mostly retreated into the background.
Denver I hardly even know her
Something wholly unique, the user list doesn’t doesn’t steer towards, pop, electronica, or international LPs so having all of those in one feels pretty exciting. The album is well-crafted and upbeat, even though it starts to sag a bit in the middle as things get samey that same is way different than the usual fare for this list. Good add!
Indie pop, chamber pop, synth-pop. Puffff, se me ha hecho largo... No me va. Un 2.
