One Nation Under A Groove
FunkadelicJust another funk album, with all the songs going on way too long. Some parts sound nice, but it's hardly an experience.

This is one of my all-time favourite albums. Crowded House have beautiful melodies and Neil Finn is a genius songwriter, as showcased on this albums many hits. Even his brother (of Split Enz fame) helps out on a lot of the tracks. My favourite Crowded House record, even if it isn't generally agreed upon as their best.
The problem with Disco records is that all the songs are unnecessarily long with nothing to really hold them up for that extended length. Seriously, once you've heard the first 8-minute-long track off of this album, just stop listening, as the rest of the album is the same thing over and over.
Pretty standard stuff, couple of good hits, not much else.
Not great, really folky (with an indie tinge to it as well). Reminds me of something Yoko Ono would have come out with at points.
Good album, last track was the weakest but overall, enjoyed it
While I truly admire how good the album sounds for just being made at home and not in a proper studio, I'm not a fan of house music at all, and without any semblance of a catchy melody or words to sing along with, I struggle to keep my attention on the music.
As my first exposure to Nick Cave, I neither loved nor hated it. Mostly slow songs with piano and vocals; with melodies that lack pizazz. Great lyrics, with a clear view of what it's trying to explain, but that's all I can say.
It's alright; couple of good songs, couple of crap songs. Middle of the road for me.
Solid album, lot of good tracks, but the excitement starts to fade out towards the end.
A lot of the tracks are well-paced, good originals, but wears out a tad before it's conclusion. The 5-minute Chuck Berry cover in the middle seems to come out of nowhere.
Great set of songs, all different yet connected in terms of either sound or meaning; highly recommend.
As a guy who doesn't particularly like rap, I enjoyed this album. I probably won't revisit it but I'll speak highly of it if it comes up in conversation.
Very attractive sounding album, with some sweet melodies and creative lyrics (even if they're all about the same thing; dysfunctional relationships). Great record, but not the best collection of songs that ABBA had to offer.
Not great, really folky (with an indie tinge to it as well). Reminds me of something Yoko Ono would have come out with at points.
Not great, I liked the idea of funk and rap together, but it just didn't mesh into a very interesting album. If you've heard one track, you've heard them all.
Fine album, gets a bit stale after a while, but just your standard early punk album.
I'm still not particularly a fan of electronic albums with no semblance of melodies. It really isn't contemporary music in any form and I'm afraid that's not for me.
The king of R&B, killing it throughout the entire album. Brilliant, and perhaps the best live album I've ever heard.
Perhaps the greatest album ever made! An absolute timeless classic record born from the mind of Paul Simon, and brought to life by Art Garfunkel's astounding vocal performances. Every track hits, every second counts.
Has some redeeming qualities; love the instrumentation for the beats, can't get enough of those strings. It does go on a bit though, with a lot of unique tracks albeit, but still a bit long for my taste, at a staggering hour and twelve minutes!
I have a soft-spot for 90's rock music, especially corny alt-stuff (akin to things you would hear in Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and this album hits that spot perfectly. It's not a great album, but it's not bad by any stretch. I enjoyed it.
Wasn't too interested in the sound or what the artists tried to do with this. A lot of the songs sound the same and are very drony, with a purposeful emphasis on things being out of tune (think Nine Inch Nails).
Goes on a bit, liked the second track better than the first, but don't think I'll revisit it.
Dragged on a bit, but wasn't unlistenable.
The Hives were one of the last pure energy and fun rock bands, and this compilation of their first few albums was a hit for a reason. Doesn't overstay it's welcome at a pleasant 28 mins, and leaves you feeling pumped.
Okay, bit of a mess, maybe could see the appeal for someone who's into this sort of thing, but not for me.
Fine album, mostly covers. Otis sings his heart out, but I find myself still largely preferring the originals of these songs.
People might say this album is a bit of a creative mess, but most of the songs on here are better than almost all of the songs on any other artists' albums. This is the Beatles, plain and simple. The best, the catchiest, and the most interesting to listen to.
The problem with Disco records is that all the songs are unnecessarily long with nothing to really hold them up for that extended length. Seriously, once you've heard the first 8-minute-long track off of this album, just stop listening, as the rest of the album is the same thing over and over.
Just another funk album, with all the songs going on way too long. Some parts sound nice, but it's hardly an experience.
Not for me, very Linkin Park-y, and I like Linkin Park xD This is just too raw for my liking, and I'm not a huge fan of yelling-singing.
Nirvana are all at the top of their game here, and in a genre that they're not too familiar with; acoustic rock. The covers are great, the originals are great, don't see any flaws with this record.
I like the Pixies, without particularly wanting to listen to their music. Their influence is strong in the rock movement that followed in the 90s, and were ahead of their time. That being said, they love to do this thing that a lot of bands do, which I hate, and that's purposefully play things slightly out of tune just to sound quirky. I stops a good album from becoming a great album.
Pleasant, good words, half-decent melodies; I liked it.
Not a fan. I'm British, but British Rap has always been a bit cringeworthy.
Not really for me, very same-y and shout-y. Well played, unique and broke boundaries on release, but, again, not for me.
Perfectly fine album, with a few good tracks, and a few forgettable ones. Nothing here is inherently bad though, so it's solid.
Has it's moments. Very groovy, and up my alley but gets a bit repetitive after a while.
It has nice portions, nothing inherently wrong with it. Very Beatles-esque at points.
Very enjoyable listen. Good songwriting, good melodies.
Pretty samey, but not terrible.
A fine album all-around. Obviously, anything country-rock related tends to go on a bit and start to blend together, but I enjoyed it.
I like the Specials, but this gets on my nerves not even half-way through. In doses, the Specials are great, an entire album will drive you to hate them.
Pretty standard stuff for a late 90's alt-rock release. Has some good moments, not much else.
Really enjoyed, not stellar, there's a few on here that are pretty boring. However, I would definitely come back to this if given the option.
Classic album, really ahead of it's time. Loved it, but it's not perfect.
Has it's moments; not always been a big Doors guy but they are undoubtedly fantastic musicians.
Probably the greatest album ever made by the greatest band of all time, can't give this anything but a perfect 5 stars.
Really pleasant sounding at times, and rather sinister at others; Bob Dylan's second album is a showcase of his lyrical talent at such a young age. Melody-wise it can start to blend together, however there's something here for everyone.
Pretty standard stuff, couple of good hits, not much else.
Solid album, really love the last track.
Love a good live album, and Deep Purple certainly don't disappoint.
Very solid album, I like it. Songs start to blend together, but the melodies are unquestionably brilliant.
Country rock, goes on and on, but nothing inherently wrong with it.
Fine; a bit miffed I got two country records in a row though.
Just poor, with bad lyrics and a sad attempt at political commentary.
Funny and charming, with memorable moments.
I love 60s music, and this is quite enjoyable.
Fine record, with good moments and some not so good moments.
Cool, has good moments.
Fine and fun, not much else to say.
Very long, although some nice ideas and melodies.
Not a big fan of MBV anyway, and this didn't change things.
A bit samey throughout, didn't love it.
Okay. Very political, which isn't always a bad thing, but if you don't like the message then it can get a bit irritating after a while...
A bit corny at times, but fine.
I admire Pink Floyd for their artistic talent and contributions to music; but I can't call this something I would listen to over and over. I don't hate the music, but the long drawn out moments of nothing as things develop are noticeable and just seem to be used to draw out the 12-minute runtime of a few of the tracks. It's music, but it's not conventional, by any means.
Went on a bit, but has nice moments.
Not a prog guy, as I think things start to blend together rather than individually standing out on their own, but this album was fine.
A lot of nice melodies, and it flows well together.
I actually quite liked this; had some interesting moments and great tracks.
Really fun album, enjoyed the listen.
Not a big fan, but it's unique.
Not a big electro guy. I need a melody, something to listen for.
Fine, has some nice bits.
Not much to say, I like a lot more of the less-popular tracks than the singles. okay.
Pretty good, I liked a few songs, others were a bit forgettable but nothing inherently bad with it.
Good rock, liked it.
Some good stuff, would listen again
not my thing
I respect the talent but not my thing at all.
Really enjoyed this one, had some good moments.
Not a massive country guy but there were some elements that were cool. Wouldn't listen again though.
Has some really nice moments, high recommend.
Good record, enjoyed it.
Quite liked this record, all things considered.
Disappointed. It's a solid album but from one of the most well known bands of all time, it is remarkably okay, and just okay.
I've heard better from OutKast, this has a few decent tracks, but a lot of it is pretty poor.
Fine record, has a few nice moments of harmony but nothing inherently outstanding.
Some creative genre blending, reminds me of Sublime in places.
It's okay, not a huge fan of the Cure anyway, but struggled to find much to come back to.
Not much to say, it's fine. I preferred their "Funeral" release.
This album has everything. It might be a bit pretentious, but I see it as part of its charm.
Okay record, has it's moments.
Some good songs, not as good as Rumours but as close as you could get.
Respect the musicianship of Sly & The Family Stone, but I found myself getting a bit tired of this record towards the end.
Has it's moments, and I enjoyed it.
Not my thing. I respect the musicianship but I wouldn't listen to this.
Strong record, not perfect, but favourable.
Not bad, has some dated references to politicians but other than that, still holds up.
Fine, has good parts, still a lot of filler.
Not bad, another Roxy Music album full of weird Brian Ferry-isms.
Has it's moments. Not a bad record at all.
Fine, has some really nice melodies, but there's a lot of fluff in there too.
I liked this record. I always enjoyed pop music influenced and directly inspired by classical and baroque music. Haven't heard something as original as this in a long while.
I really do like the Kinks, but there's just a lot of nothing on this record, besides the big hits.
There's a reason it was once the biggest selling album of all time. Pure pop perfection, start to finish.
Pretty good record, good listen.
Okay, about what you'd expect
Fine record from Leonard Cohen. Probably my favourite of his that I've heard so far.
Just another funk album. Love a good funky tune, but for nearly forty minutes? No thanks.
It's the Jam, what more can I say?
Solid album, however I think it lacks in the melody department significantly. It consists mostly of ballads, with a few jauntier tunes sprinkled between. Not bad, but not fabulous.
Fine record, not really my thing, but it sounds okay
I really enjoyed this record. Has some really great feel to some of it's tracks.
This album was a huge success for MGMT, and I can see why. There's lots of influence from some of the greats in here, but I'm afraid what brings it down is the vocals and the meat. There's not enough in each songs to make me listen again with excitement, they all have their hooks and strengths, but not enough.
Just jazz. Sounds great, not my thing.
Not a bad record, not bad at all.
Good, enjoyed it.
One of the greatest albums ever made, without a doubt.
Excellent, one of the greatest of all time. Every track is enjoyable, some are obviously better than others, but I love every one.
I like this. It has some unique and quirky lyrics to some absolutely beautiful melodies. It does go on too long, but I enjoyed it!
Alright, wasn't always my thing, very experimental at points with a jazz layer near the centre of it all.
Fine album, some tracks go on far too long.
Not bad, very Clapton-esque thanks to his involvement.
As a Scottish person, I feel like I have to admire Teenage Fanclub arbitrarily, however underneath this exterior of seemingly out-of-tune harmonies and repetitive structures, there's a sense of real talent. I firmly believe that Teenage Fanclub are a bit of a piss-take, in that they write mindless songs purposefully, which kinda makes them secretly genius.
Love this album, grew up with it!
Pretty standard record, not much here that's too bad, or too good.
Enjoyed it, has some good songs.
Fine record, has a few good tracks.
Just found it all a bit boring, not much to it.
