it encapsulates a particular time and place. It's very teenager-y and at times there's nothing wrong with that. In my case, I listen to this record whenever I feel nostalgia for a time I didn't exactly live in, meaning, never. It has some catchy tunes, though.
This guys bore me to tears
I thought we didn't do live albums, but this was pretty fun
Rock alternativo de fines de los 90. Como este hay montones.
The AV Club had me convinced this was one of the best bands of the 00's but I could never get into them. The riffs are there, but there are no memorable melodies. I guess the lyrics are good, but to me, when paired with the vocals, they sound too much like Springsteen wannabees.
This is an EP. auto removal feature should be a thing.
They have exactly one songs that’s interesting to me and it’s not on this album.
Hold On Magnolia is one of my favorite songs
Oh yeah, tremendous record. Kicks so much ass.
oh yes, his best record by far
Oye oye, este disco está muy bueno
this was just as awful as that album cover
I guess this is the sort of album one gets when the user submitted list does its thing. I had never heard of them, never heard any of their music. It's not a particular genre I care about, but then, that's the point of this site.
I suppose there's at least a modicum of respect paid to the artist because there's at least one person in the world to whom this record means, well, the world.
I mean, it's not an affront to taste or anything like that, it's just that the voice is annoying and the music kind of monotonous after just a couple of songs.
oi, this was super fun. And I had never heard of this guy before. Fave track: Night of the Vampire.
Yessss, we need more Metal representation
Look, I like the Boss, but let's just agree, collectively, to do away with live albums.
yessss, more diversity like this
A weird and challenging folk album. It's folk, so you know we don't need more of those, but at least it's different, more demanding with its long stretches of guitar solos and melodies
Incredibly boring and safe.
If this had come out now, I'd say it's a Stones' flavored garage rock with pinches of psychedelic homage, but this was 1996! I'd been all over this record had I knew about them back then.
Wait, is this album good?
For years I never gave it a listen because I thought it was just a single and the rest was filler. From where did I get that impression? Couldn't tell you, but that's how I felt.
Hearing it now I can tell it's very 90s, of course, but it's actually a pretty listenable album.
Yesss I love Metric. They are definitely on my list. That 6 track run from Help I'm Alive to Twilight Galaxy is so, so good. And they're not even my favorite tracks! That privilege belongs to Gimme Sympathy.
Concise 43 minutes for an album that manages to capture a particular time and place for indie rock. I don't think The National ever managed to top this record, so it makes sense that this is the one that's submitted
I didn't know bass could sound like that! Nah, of course I did, there's plenty of bass players that worship the name of Pastorius.
It's not quite my tempo, not my subgenre (the virtuoso bass with company), but I can certainly appreciate the quality involved
I fucking love Pedestrian at Best
A harsh but beguiling record, the more you listen the more it captures your attention.
As I've said before, i think his first album is his best. Don't mind this one, except for the song names.
Ohh, yes. You had to be there, of course, but what I really like about this record is the little idiosyncracies that distinguishes it from other indie singer-songwriter of the time.
Great fucking record. I love the way it interchanges the noise with the melodies. During the course of this project I've confirmed what I knew, but couldn't put quite into words: I don't care about the genre or the style, what I like and react to the most are melodies.
Right around the time this record came out I was exploring death metal courtesy of Opeth. Exploring the genre and styles related to it I came around Alcest, Agalloch and other bands that put the effort in the melodies rather than de overwhelming noise.
The Sunbather came out and became one of those records that you just have to put on again right after it ends with the last track.
Never could get into this band. Not then, not now.
This is a good record. Not sure about why it belongs to this list, but I like it enough
All over the place in a way that it's both fitting and deserving of a place in this list and not really my tempo.
Sure. Everyone thought CC were all the rage back when blogs were going to save the world. They didn't and they weren't.
This was obnoxious to me back then and it still is now.
pretty good, if a bit overlong, not in minutes but in tracks. it does have some fillers. The good songs though? those are bangers.
It has only one good song, the rest is pop-country that isn't deserving of this list.
Actually, this was pretty good.
This was actually pretty good
Great fucking record. It should be on the official list.
Yuck. It's mediocre at best.
I like The Walkmen and I like Vampire Weekend and yet this album was incredibly boring to me. The execution and production are, naturally, flawless, but there's something in here thatbjust doesn't click.
Not really a fan of spoken lyrics, but I like the music. Actually, I'd prefer the instrumental version of this record.
Some good songs, but I much prefer Glenn Hansard and Markéta Irglová
Another one? I think with the one about the enema is enough.
It was fun, though the skits tend to bore me.
I fucking love this record
I mean, it's an EP so why bother? It is pretty good though
So, this is what happens when the music is in service of the lyrics, but the lyrics are not really that interesting.
Perfect lazy sunday vibes
Interesting 90's singer-songwriter rock. It's themes are refreshing enough and the way she uses her voice and guitars, though very much anchored in the decade, manages to overcome the inherent traps of alternative rock. It does feel dated at times, but at the same time its part of it charms.
Yesss, this is the type of music this list needs more of.
I mean, there are better artists within the same genre and decade. Hell, as others have said, you can hear other/better groups.
a bit overlong but this really fucking rocks
oh yeah, this should be on the official list
it was fine. it's a good glam record, don't get me wrong, but I actually like "Next" better.
A cool curio from a time and genre often neglected. It was ok.
Space travel jazz is a genre I didn't know I'd like.
Look, there's tons of blues legends that could have one or several albums on the official list or even in the user list, there's no need for a compilation.
I ended up listening my trove of Muddy Waters records. Hell, I much prefer Jonny Lang's Wander this World
I like Channel Orange. Though this is a good record, I think with 17 songs it's too long
I love I and Love and You a lot. I and love it a lot.
Ohh, I've always missed this one. This and Vitalogy. I knew of people and friends who listened tot his record a lot, but I jumped from Ten directly to Yield and kind of never looked back. I do like it now, though.
They have other records that I absolutely love. This is clearly not one of them, though.
This was particularly boring
Oh boy, right after the clunker overrated The 1975 comes The Courteeners with another record that sounds like several other bands while managing to deliver exactly zero memorable songs. At least it's short.
It's the kind of record that this list is about. Let's listen to more music outside that ridiculously narrow britpop/indie rock/classic 70 bullshit
I actually like this record, even if the out of tune singing became more jarring as the songs advanced
funk from Europe? sounds cool. But wait, they don't sound European at all. At times, more like we have RHCP/George Clinton/etc. at home
Fuck yes, this album slaps. I tried to get into KGatLW after listening to thid record, I turned around to look at a cute squirrel and in between this guys released like 5 albums and one of them was a double. Impossible. I tried, but can't keep up.
Anyway, this record is good trippy fun.
