Soul Mining
The TheIf I hadn’t been told, I would think this was David Bowie. I would love to hear these songs covered by modern bands because i just can’t get over the 80s synth sound.

Just on the verge of being 90s rock if that makes sense. Imagine if a band had a second album that blew up in 1991 but this is their first album. Pleasantly surprised!
Generic 90s alt/grunge rock. There was nothing unique, important, or interesting about the music
Culturally relevant but still just disco
Classic but so dated. A few good songs but mostly a novelty at this point
Lots of great, classic songs! Plus some songs that prove he was ahead of his time (may this be love)!
If you don’t have a problem with pedophiles…
a good song, the rest is meh.
Total classic, didn’t have to listen to it to know I was going to give it 5 stars…but I did anyway!
One good song, the rest is filler
So cheesy! They ran out of good ideas many albums ago.
I enjoyed it and appreciated it for what it is but I dont know that I’ll listen to it again
Seriously, the 70s might have been the worst decade for music. This album has two decent songs and the rest is so lame and basic
Surprisingly good! Some duds but a lot of really good songs that were ahead of their time and still sound very fresh!
Bleh. There are some good songs (the classics) but anything that wasn’t a single is just so hard to listen to.
An absolute classic of the genre!
For 80s adult contemporary MOR, it was better than I thought it would, but I also wasn’t expecting much. There was one track that I did get stuck in my head though so that has to be worth something.
A good album. Unique. Sounds like something I could have really gotten into if I had first heard it at an early age. Starts out very strong but kinda tapers off as it goes but I still listen to it multiple times during the day, particularly the first few tracks.
A fantastic album!! Like the Wiki article said, the performance is so good that even some mediocre studio tracks come to life in this concert recording! This will 100% be in my regular rotation.
Do you know “Sultans of Swing”? Then you’ve heard every song on this album.
Some of my favorite Michael Jackson songs are on this album!
Lame 80s synth pop. Nothing special.
I understand the importance of this album and its place in the history of alt/grunge rock and I like a lot of the song on it, but I don’t think I’m ever going to get hooked on any of the songs enough to came back to it over time.
Classic and only a little dated. If you can get past the nasally voice and back-and-forth rapping style that really gives away its age, the production and songs are excellent and many times still fresh.
Couldn’t finish it. Just so dated. Didn’t feel groundbreaking or forward thinking at all. Just 90s music.
pleasantly surprised. I had preconceived ideas and was expecting to not like it, but there are some really well written tracks that sound fresh and forward-thinking. On occasion, some tracks and his voice in general sound “of the time”, but not unlistenable
Not quite spoken word; not quite songs; not quite good
An absolute banger of an album and instantly recognizable as MIA!
…nope
It’s ok…
Every once in a while you could convince yourself that you are listening to a hip, forward-thinking indie band…and then the ABBA sound would come back and ruin it.
If you like 80s musicals (a la Chess) you’ll love this album. I don’t like 80s musicals
Classic, groundbreaking, great back story!
a decent album of 60s rock/psychedelic. Good songs but I don’t know that any particular one really stuck with me. Very reminiscent of the Grateful Dead at some points
Easy to see why it was influential to the next generation of pioneering musicians!
One of my favorite albums ever!
Blues rock, the Doors - if you’ve heard either before then you’ve heard this album.
Pleasantly surprised, very experimental and still feels forward thinking
Don’t need to listen to an Oasis wannabe band. I don’t even like Oasis
5 stars, but mostly out of respect and knowledge of what would come later as a result of this album becoming the phenomenon that it did
Wonderful album that kicked off an entire genre!
Better than I was expecting! Gonna have to revisit this ine
Hands down the best Christmas album of all time!
A classic 1960s album!
Just on the verge of being 90s rock if that makes sense. Imagine if a band had a second album that blew up in 1991 but this is their first album. Pleasantly surprised!
Couldn’t do it. Much more Euro 80s dance pop than the earlier album I was given by this list. Pretty cheesy
One of my Top 10 albums!
meh
Surprisingly good!
I know short songs (~1:30) is kind of a tradition in punk/indie music but for me it’s difficult to listen to an entire album of 30ish song a that sometimes come off as undeveloped. Some of the songs were good, I just wish they went somewhere. Plus the use of f@&&0t was grating, and in 1995, it was starting to be in the realm of unacceptable.
Started strong but then it got really repetitive. Probably would’ve helped if I could understand French.
Dated, but an absolute classic for how it moved the genre of rap and hip hop music.
70s math, prog rock. In theory I should like it but I just can’t get into it.
Nope can’t do the country music
Pretty solid. I knew one song on the album and could definitely see this being part of my regular rotation…if I had been introduced to it at a younger age. At this point, I don’t know that it’s good enough/catchy enough to get picked over some of my go-to albums when it comes time to choose something to listen to.
Not my favorite Tribe Called Quest album but a solid album all around!
A wonderful album. On the whole, I really dislike “quirky” or “goofy” music but I really enjoy bands/artists that think outside the box. In this case the “outside the box” music outweighs the silliness of the album
pretty good album all around. This one might make it into my regular rotation
I bumped my watch and my phone started playing this album without me realizing it. I thought it was someone’s ringtone going off….thats about all you need to know.
70s pre-disco r&b…that’s about all there is to know
I could see myself getting into this. Clearly foreshadowing some artists to come in the early 2000s
Terrible!! So dated
It’s ok, if you like Queens of the Stone Age. Pretty much exactly what I expected
A fantastic album from back when country music was good; before it was co-opted by the America First, love it or leave it, blind patriotism, pro-military/pro-cop without question, alcoholism celebrating crowd.
An album from 20 years ago that still sounds like it’s from 10 years in the future! Magnificent!
Over-produced 90s pop rock, if that’s your thing…
At times a little cheesy, but much of it felt like the next incarnation of the Beatles if the Beatles had continued with the more experimental style of Sgt. Peppers. Out of the Blue has a lot of layers and interesting things to listen for, not to mention good songs.
No! Never! The music is terrible, but the man is absolutely vile and the fact that this is on the list at all makes me completely question that viability and judgement of the list. It might just be enough for me to stop getting these daily albums. 0 stars if I could.
An absolute classic! Love it!
A perfect album! ⭐️ x10000000000
Very forward thinking, especially for the time. I bet this album blew some minds back in the day; I bet it blows some minds today, too.
Sounds like 80s music. Very eclectic, the style seems to bounce all of the place. Doesn’t stick with me but I don’t hate it so whatever.
excellent album! I knew there were some good tracks here - “NY I Love You” is a favorite - but the entire album is solid and will definitely be in my regular rotation!
Decent - good rapping, good beats, but I need my hip hop to have a good hook and be a little more upbeat.
Sounds like 80s music…which I suppose is groundbreaking since it came out in 1979. If you like that kinda thing, I guess you’ll like this. It’s a classic album cover though so I’ll add a star to my rating for that but I really wish it had better music to go with it
some of it sounds interesting but then he starts to sing and it sounds so dated and all I can see is his stupid big shouldered suit and lame-ass broadway musical
Sounds like standard rock with a little bit of Irish fiddle. I suppose if it have been on the radio more it would’ve worked its way into the popular lexicon but it’s not interesting enough for me to come back to
This is the kind of album I expect to encounter from this list. When you open the Wiki link and it talks about the innovative and groundbreaking nature of an album, when it talks about the influence the album had, that’s the sign of an important album. This was/is/continues to be a groundbreaking, innovative, and influential album and for good reason.
R&B. Every once in a while it has flashes of interest but not often enough.
80s new wave. Said all I need to say.
90s rock with bad lyrics and a terrible album cover
More 80s music from 1979. Never heard of this band. Not bad but I could’ve gone my entire life without hearing and wouldn’t have been any worse off
gets a bit repetitive and annoying after a while
About 5 songs too long but overall a great album!
I’m a sucker for Irish music!
Generic 90s alt/grunge rock. There was nothing unique, important, or interesting about the music
Solid album!
This might be the first album from this list that I liked without previously knowing that I already liked it. Sounds like the missing link between Leonard Cohen and Kevin Morby mixed with occasional early American rock and roll.
I’m very conflicted on this album as it boarder on brilliant and absurd. It’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before but at the same time seems so familiar - familiar enough that I sometimes think some artists might have a case for copyright infringement. Often the lyric writing is very creative and unique, but then there are songs that I thought were Weird Al parodies in their silliness. Definitely going to have to reflect and then come back to it.
Pretty good album of folk-music-influenced indie rock, but not folk rock like The Byrds, more like traditional instruments, waltzes, and mariachi
some excellent singles, some very forward thinking tracks, and some others that are ok but overall an important and influential album that still holds up
Has a ton of hit songs in it. If you like those songs, you’ll probably like this album. To me, the hit songs are catchy but overall the songs are pretty middle of the road and aren’t really pushing future music in any sort of direction. Overall though, Taylor does get extra points for her empowerment of young girls and women and for taking back her own catalogue of music (that was a pretty punk/FU thing to do). Speaking of which, the link goes to the original album version but make sure you keep clicking through to Taylor’s Version.
It’s the doors and it sounds like the doors. Lots of hit songs.
A very forward thinking album that sounds like music from decades later. Clearly an influence on punk, post, indie music to come.
While this isn’t my favorite Beyoncé album, she is a generational artist whose popularity and influence will live on for decades
A classic and quintessential reggae album!
My favorite album of all time! 1,000,000 stars!
A ground breaking, excellent album! I haven’t listen to Nirvana in an extended setting since I was in high school because it largely sounds “adolescent” to me now, but revisiting In Utero, I really appreciated it as a solid album with excellent tracks.
If you like light jazz, but I don’t like light jazz
I understand its groundbreaking nature and importance to the decade, but it’s not for me
Post Modern Jukebox before Post Modern Jukebox; Scary Pockets before Scary Pockets. A ton of great old country songs redone marvelously in a big band setting. I love old country songs and this album gives us another way to enjoy these classic songs
In the vein of Pete Seeger or Woody Guthrie
Nope. Don’t need yet another Deep Purple album on this list 🙄
Love the classic country music and this one does not disappoint!
Not a huge fan of Pink Floyd or concept albums, but I can see how this one is held in such high regard. As an album, it is masterfully crafted and each song is well thought out to flow seamlessly from one to the next.
An excellent album! I knew Lust for Life (how could you not after its hijacking in so many commercials and soundtracks) but every song on the album is an equal punk/pop (but not pop punk) gem. So many catch but still edgy songs. Definitely going into my regular rotation.
Basic rock for basic people
An excellent album of Cuban music
A near perfect album! So many fantastic, timeless songs
A ground breaking and genre defining album!
always been a peripheral fan of Flaming Lips but the more I hear, the more I really like them!
Terrible!
Lots of great tracks here!!
It was ok. Lacked the charm of their first album but I might go back and give it another try.
A great live performance and interesting to think that he was fairly well into his career at this point and still had so much influential music ahead of him.
I like punk but I can’t take 45 1:30 minute long songs in a row
Before this album, I only knew a little bit of Yeah Yeah Yeahs but I’m going to have to listen to more now because it’s definitely growing on me
It’s ok if you like mid-century French singers (Charles Trenet, etc)
Sounds like Neil Young. Some hits songs
Sometimes over the top, but a lot of great songs
Not what I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this album.
If I hadn’t been told, I would think this was David Bowie. I would love to hear these songs covered by modern bands because i just can’t get over the 80s synth sound.
If you like Girl From Ipanema, you’ll like this album ;)
Not for me
Such a great album!!
Essential album full of great songs, inspiring lyrics and themes, groundbreaking guitar solos, and tons of energy!
I know way more Fatboy Slim songs than I thought I did or probably should know!
A pretty solid album of 2000s era guitar rock.
nope
a classic!!
A classic ska album, but also pretty cheese at times
Nope, not my thing at all
I was pleasantly surprised by this one!
Meh…dated
Good. Sounds like Jimi
Pretty dated
Nope
Awesome album!
A classic hip hop album. I wish hip hop had gone more in this direction and evolved from here instead of turning towards gangsta rap. It’s a dated sound but there are some great tracks here.
A classic REM album
Nope
Fantastic funk album!
Not a fan of neo-soul but this is ok-ish
Fantastic funk album!
Started strong; went down hill fast
Don’t like live albums
