Rising Above Bedlam
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The HeartSome catchy tunes here. I wouldn't have normally found this album but I enjoyed it a lot
Some catchy tunes here. I wouldn't have normally found this album but I enjoyed it a lot
Prime Pumpkins!
Two legendary songs and some very typical Elton John tunes
Songs run together a bit to much for me. That "etheral background hum" that pervades music of this era doesn't grab me.
Raw, energetic 60's rock. The band had more depth than just their hits
Short album! Sounded fairly crude and elementary even by 1970's standards.
Sparse yet well put-together. Uncomplicated, straight-up rock with a couple of truly classic songs
Raw, energetic young band. Great album with good range of song styles
Early 70's metal, which was honestly better than I would have expected except for the track "FX" which is annoying filler noise.
Lush, ethereal sound. A little soft for my taste
A bit too "background music" for me. It's not bad, just not terribly interesting
Late 60's Hippie / Country / Folky. Too twangy for me.
Huge hits that definitely made the band into superstars ("Rio", "Hungry Like the Wolf"). I'm probably biased against this album having not cared to much for the music when it was new!
Like all double-albums, this one suffers from a few "filler songs" that wouldn't have made the cut if you were limited to 45 minutes of music. Great range of songs, though and some true classics and quality deep cuts. Peak Led Zeppelin
This is a pretty solid album but none of the songs really "popped" for me. I'm going to put into the rotation and listed a few more times.
A good-sounding album but nothing really stood out as exceptional.
A decent album and not in a genre I generally find myself. A good find.
Non-grunge 90's alternative; not too heavy, not too light. Really solid, talented singer/song-writer. A nice album to put on an listen to start to finish.
Classic Sinatra and a great album if you're looking for "that" vibe
A really good album! George was part of one the greatest acts of all time, but this work really stands on its own.
This is definitely not my style. Too random, too breathy, to un-focused.
Solid album, start to finish. Elton John at the pinnacle of pop stardom in the early 70's
One my favorite Pixies albums -- solid from start to finish
Quintessential mid-80's pop hair-metal band. Possibly a definitive Bon Jovi album if there is such a thing. Not my style then and I haven't softened my opinion since. It was tough to force myself to listen to this one because it is so cringy
Great range of mid-60's Dylan tunes when he went electric. It was by all accounts a fantastic concert which these recordings support.
Musically sound album with no soft spots. Not any huge hits, though
Green Day was really in their stride when this album came out. Solid line-up of songs
Great prog-rock album. Probably not for everyone but I was really into King Crimson back in high school so this one holds a special place for me.
Fantastic sound experience from beginning to end. Iconic guitar-god tracks here!
Good tracks. You can tell David Bowie and Iggy Pop hung out a lot together in the late 70's but it's difficult to say which was the dominant influencer. Elements of this album showed up on later Bowie works but with a lot more polish.
If you let a genius go on too long, it becomes tiresome like everything else. Some editing of these songs would have made this a tight, fantastic single album. 7 minutes?! Wrap it up!
A truly seminal late 70's new wave album that is packed with hits. I was never a big fan of Chrissie Hynde as a singer, but she did bring the attitude.
Very early "world music" feel.
Compact album with solid Stevie Wonder touches (like harmonica). A couple of stand-out tracks
Mid-sixties jangly-folky-hippie stuff. A good representation of the genre, but not my wheelhouse
A high point in 90's rock (and Smashing Pumpkin's career).
Successful but soulless 80's hair metal
It's right there in the title... "Genius". And it is.
A bit of a folk-y departure for the Zep. Some really good, intricate songs and a few expected audio assaults.
A departure of styles for me. I didn't dislike it but I can't see how to include this into a regular rotation. All I could think of is "The Lion King"
Good aughties sound (similar to the Strokes for me) that is tight and driving without that college radio "etheral hum" that I think is overdone.
Really entertaining set of catchy late-80's hip hop tunes. Definitely will revisit
Packed with songs that define the Classic Rock genre
This sits in an interesting niche that isn't punk and isn't rock. Melodic but still fairly sparse, it was a good find
Good alternative singer-song writer effort. I went back to LISTEN to it a couple of times and more carefully and it greatly improved my experience. As background music it just gets lost.
Beastie Boys in their stride. Great samples, great lyrics makes a great album
I love that Wu Tang sound. Something about the lilt of the samples and crisp lyrics
Wow! Very "atomospheric", but I liked it
This album is packed with good mid-tempo songs. A really strong effort
Very different fare. Reminiscent of Dead Can't Dance with the mix of rhythms and cultures used. Not bad
One of the best live rock albums ever. The Who was on their game that night and recorded some legendary tracks, including all of “Tommy” live
first heard this when it was new and thought that Paul Simon was adopting a “World Music” gimmick that was popular at the time. Apartheid was still in force in South Africa and everyone was drawing attention to it. What Paul Simon produced was so much more than a “gimmick”. It’s really a full well-rounded album
I suppose Iron Maiden is metal for metalheads. There is some technical ability here but not a lot of creativity
An early "prog rock" album that does have a few hits. Like most things prog rock, it's a self-indulgent, but with a high degree of technical ability. I kinda like prog rock.
A bit too pop-y for me but nothing to really dislike
A masterful Stones album, possibly one of their very best
Randy Newman writes those ditties that he writes with a distintive style. This is an early glimpse into what's coming later in his career (even before "Short People"!)
I grew up with this album and can't say enough good things about it. Certainly innovative for it's time and showcases the amazing range of musical talent from The Beatles. I've never been a huge fan of "Within You Without You" but that's only relative to the stature of the rest of the album.
The songs are consistently good but there isn't anything that really stands out to me. I can see where people would be fans but I don't think I'll be looking for concert tickets anytime soon.
Great performance. Wish I could watch the video along with it.
I love it out of the gate -- strong start. This one is a keeper
Nearly a "Best Of" album right out of the gate. Great songs
So techno! Honestly for the genre and the time period it's pretty good. Techno tends to fade into the background for me so I did have to listen a couple of times to really "hear" it.
ELO / Jeff Lynne has a very, very distinct sound but there is a bit of sameness. This isn't a bad album and Mr. Blue Sky is a great song but it doesn't resonate better than three stars for me.
Odd to hear an Astrud Gilberto album that doesn't have "The Girl From Ipanema", but it is still a mellow, samba-driven groove.
Raw, rockabilly 80's punk. Love, love, love it.
This likely a good album for this genre, but I don't think this genre is good for me. I didn't dislike it, but it didn't move me in any way.
This is a great album based on the title track alone.
This style suffers from repetition and these songs in particular with overplay. I don't need to hear "The Rockafella Skank" or "Praise You" again in my lifetime.
It's OK. Light folk-y songs that easily slip into the background. I'll give it a couple of more listens
A great album for it's genre. Not one that I would graviate to, but the beats are sharp and the harmonies are tight.
Eminem writes some sharp song and has a distinctive style. His hits are great, but his non-hits are only so-so
Way to sparse for me. Not offensive, not bothersome, not really even "there".
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Really got me hooked on U2 when it came out in the 80's. Well-written songs from start to finish
Some catchy tunes here. I wouldn't have normally found this album but I enjoyed it a lot
Not surprising that there is a strong early Pink Floyd feel here (before they were commercially successful). Some of this album is tough to listen to but given the checked and extended time to record it, one would expect it to be uneven. Don't think I need to dive into this one again.
Great grunge-era album with a couple of solid hits. I've always liked the way Shirley Manon's voice fit in with the rest of the band.
Such a prog-rock album; songs are long, musicianship quality is high and some patience is needed. If you're in the mood it's great but some people are never in this mood. I mean, I like it occasionally but I know many that do not.
Surprisingly good album with three solid hits and a good supporting cast of songs.
Sweeping 80's synth and a good representation of that genre.
This is great album from start to finish. Every track is solid. One of my faves from that time period
Quintessential late-80's rap album. There is nothing quite as rick as Chuck D's voice and Flavor-Flav's fill-ins. Strong effort start to finish
This album by itself could be the soundtrack for any 80's themed movie or TV show. So many hits
Good synth-pop with vocals over cinematic soundscapes that are influenced by a variety of music styles
Very danceable and poppy
Really good live set from the Man in Black
Mid-sixties garage / rock 'n roll band -- a few Chuck Berry covers, drums, guitars, bass; just the essentials with simple chords. I can see how this raw sound would be influential to later bands, but I still think it's odd that I've never heard of them before this.
Iconic 80's sound -- even the non-hit "deep tracks" are good on this album. And that voice…!
The album released as "Beatlemania" was becoming a thing. A mix of original works and covers defined the early Beatles sound
Tough to pigeon-hole this genre -- Rock? Indie rock? Alternative Country? Whatever it is, it sounds good with a… confident air.
Late 60's pop. A little saccharine for my taste.
My wheelhouse
Not a Willie fan, but this is a great album; good standards done straight up without a lot of cheese
I really don't like Kanye (or Ye or whatever he goes by now). I gave this a fair listen and it is a decent hip-hop album. My dislike of him will impose a three star limit.
Grungey goodness.
I didn't think I'd like it but I did. Decent rap from the 00's with a number of good guest appearances.
This album has everything going for it; well established band with solid song-writing, there are so many hits on it and it was released at a time when music was nearly everything to me (High School). There isn't a single bad note from beginning to end.
Great voice, good pop songs. I'll listen to this one again.
Iconic rock album. Such incredible variety in a two-sided album from 1971!
Not bad to listen to but nothing that stands out to me.
I love Bowie immensely but even I'd have to say that he didn't find that "snap" with this one that made a lot of his previous work legendary. There isn't anything too special here.
Wow. You'd think this was a "greatest hits album" and not an original release!
An essential blues album with great performances of some classic sounds. Muddy Waters influenced so many musicians I admire
I've heard the hits from this album on the radio my whole life it seems. I'm not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan but there are some stand-outs on this one. Lindsay Buckingham's guitar work on "Never Going Back Again" is nothing short of magical. I don't think I ever need to hear "Don’t Stop" or "Go Your Own Way " ever again.
A really well-balanced album with well-constructed songs. I'll come back to this one.
